A highly anticipated documentary project centered on former One Direction members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson has reportedly been scrapped. The project, which was intended to capture the two singers reconnecting during a spontaneous journey across the United States, appears to have been derailed by an alleged physical altercation between the pair.
Reports regarding the production first surfaced last October, suggesting that Netflix was developing a three-part series to offer fans an intimate look at the duo’s relationship. The project was set to be directed by Nicola Marsh, known for her work on the streaming platform’s Song Exploder series. However, despite the initial buzz, the project was never officially confirmed by the streaming giant.
According to a report published by The Sun on April 17, the cancellation follows a serious incident that allegedly took place six months ago. The report claims that an argument escalated when Malik allegedly made a remark regarding Tomlinson’s late mother, Johannah, who passed away from leukaemia in 2016. The source alleged that Malik struck Tomlinson in the face, resulting in a cut and requiring medical attention for a suspected concussion.

Shortly after the report was made public, director Nicola Marsh took to her Instagram Stories to share the headline, adding the poignant caption: “And there goes the last year of work.” Neither Malik nor Tomlinson has issued a public statement regarding the allegations or the status of the documentary.
The project was expected to build upon the momentum of the pair’s recent public reconciliation, which included a notable appearance by Tomlinson at Malik’s Los Angeles show in January 2025. This had been their first public reunion since the funeral of their former bandmate, Liam Payne, in late 2024.
In the wake of the news, both artists continue to focus on their respective solo careers. Zayn Malik released his fifth studio album, Konnakol, on April 16, with an extensive world tour scheduled to begin in Manchester on May 12. Meanwhile, Louis Tomlinson has been promoting his third solo album, How Did I Get Here?, which was released earlier this year. In recent interviews, Tomlinson has spoken candidly about his personal growth and the newfound confidence he has channeled into his latest musical output.
