A celebration of life memorial service has been set for next month for the late Oliver Tree, providing fans across the globe an opportunity to pay their respects. The eccentric singer-songwriter tragically died in a helicopter crash in Brazil on June 14 at the age of 32, an incident that also claimed the lives of five others. In a recent tribute, Tree’s mother, Christine Begin Nickell, expressed her profound pride in her son and extended her gratitude to fans for their overwhelming support.
The memorial service is scheduled for July 25 and will be held at the UCSC Quarry Amphitheatre, an outdoor venue located on the University of California’s Santa Cruz campus, where the artist was born and raised. Due to limited space for family and friends at the physical venue, the family has announced that a public livestream will be available. While specific details on how to access the broadcast are not yet available, the family has advised that information will be shared shortly.
In addition to the memorial, Tree’s family has officially launched Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Art Grant for Baby Geniuses. This initiative was established in accordance with plans explicitly put in place by the artist during his lifetime. “Oliver believed the most valuable way for artists to master their craft was not through studying, but by physically getting their hands dirty and creating things,” the foundation stated in its mission.
Tree had discussed his vision for this foundation in interviews months before his passing, noting that he wanted his assets to support artists in the physical creation of their work rather than formal education. The foundation intends to remain active for at least 50 to 100 years, with further details on application requirements and submission dates expected soon.
The music community continues to mourn the loss of the artist. Post Malone recently dedicated a Toronto performance to Tree, calling him a “beautiful man.” Other artists who have paid tribute include Kid Cudi, KSI, Bebe Rexha, and Melanie Martinez. Oliver Tree, born Oliver Tree Nickell, leaves behind a legacy defined by hits such as ‘Life Goes On’, ‘Miss You’, and his most recent album, ‘Love You Madly Hate You Badly’.
