Sunflower Bean’s Julia Cumming has officially stepped in to play bass for Wolf Alice as they support Olivia Rodrigo on her expansive ‘Unraveled Tour’. The collaboration comes as the band navigates a temporary lineup change during their high-profile support run.
The support slot arrives as Rodrigo continues her 65-date ‘Unraveled’ tour, celebrating her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, the highly anticipated follow-up to her 2021 breakout debut, Sour. The tour has already seen successful stops across Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, and North Carolina.

For the duration of these dates, Wolf Alice bassist Theo Ellis is taking a hiatus from the road to support his partner as they welcome a new baby. Cumming, known for her work with Sunflower Bean, was tapped to fill the vacancy, a role she embraced with enthusiasm. She announced her involvement last week, sharing a lighthearted moment with Wolf Alice frontwoman Ellie Rowsell and expressing her honor in supporting the band during this significant personal chapter for Ellis.

Following the band’s performance in Charlotte, North Carolina, Cumming shared footage of herself performing ‘Play The Greatest Hits’, praising Ellis as one of the most compelling bass players in rock music today. This collaboration is not the first time the two acts have crossed paths; Cumming previously joined the alt-rock veterans for their The Clearing: B Sides project, contributing to a cover of The Roches’ ‘Hammond Song’.
