Baby G’s “13”: The Game-Changing Drill Track You Need to Hear

Baby G is stepping into the rap game with an intensity that’s impossible to ignore. His latest single, “13,” isn’t just another drill-infused banger—it’s a declaration. At just 13 years old, the young MC brings a hunger and determination that sets him apart from the flood of aspiring rappers trying to break through.

The track is laced with hypnotic hooks and modern drill beats that give Baby G’s flow an edge. His cadence is sharp, confident, and unfazed, delivering bars that focus on ambition, money, and the grind. There’s an old soul lurking in his delivery, likely influenced by his musical lineage—his father, Cold Ca$e, and his brother, See-Money, have clearly instilled in him the art of storytelling. Yet, Baby G’s sound is undeniably modern, blending contemporary trap elements with the gritty authenticity of street rap.

The accompanying music video paints a vivid picture of his aspirations—fast cars, Miami nightlife, flashing cash, and the energy of the stage. But in a clever twist, it all turns out to be a dream. The message? He’s not quite there yet, but he’s manifesting it, chasing it with every bar he spits.

Baby G is young, but his hunger is real. “13” doesn’t feel like a novelty track from a teenage rapper; it feels like the first step in a career that could go the distance. Whether he can maintain this momentum remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure—he’s fiending for success, and he’s coming for it.

DaBaby Gives Aspiring Rapper Some Major Exposure

DaBaby gave aspiring MC, City Boy The Rapper, a major boost by purchasing one of his mixtapes and posting the up-and-comer on his Instagram story.

DaBaby just made one aspiring rapper’s day. The Blame It On Baby rapper may still be riding the high from the release of his new album, but he’s making sure he takes the time to give those lesser known artists a chance. On Wednesday, Baby posted a video on his Instagram story, in which a fan can be seen standing in the doorway of his car, holding a homemade mixtape.

Baby asks him to introduce himself, and the young man lets him know that he goes by “City Boy The Rapper,” and that he’s trying to make it big just like DaBaby. When City Boy tries to hand him a mixtape, Baby asks him how much he wants for it. “Shit, you can get it for free,” he says. However, DaBaby insists on paying, and asks again how much he’s selling it for. When he tells him it’s $10, Baby hands over two fives, and encourages him to “keep that shit up.”

“That shit possible,” he tells City Boy, who tosses out his Instagram handle. DaBaby made sure to tag the up-and-comer on the story, which no doubt gave him some some major exposure. What a wholesome moment.

Lil Baby Gives Producers The Chance Of A Lifetime

Lil Baby wants to sign ten up-and-coming producers to his 4PF label.

Atlanta rapper Lil Baby has established himself as one of the biggest names in rap this year, earning his first #1 album with My Turn. He just released the deluxe edition with six new songs but the 25-year-old never stops working. He wants to ensure he's always got enough beats to hop in the studio and deliver the magic we know him for and, as a result, he's looking to sign a bunch of up-and-coming producers to his 4PF label.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Lil Baby encouraged producers to send through their beats and information so he could give them a look, potentially even signing them to a life-changing deal.

"I’m trying to sign 10 producers," wrote Baby. His replies are filled with beat snippets and messages from producers who are trying to become the next big star in the music business.

If ever you've wanted to get a credit on Lil Baby's next album -- or maybe on the Lamborghini Boys mixtape -- this is your chance.

Lil Baby has been making major noise around the world, most recently featuring on the brand new remix of "Dealer" by RMR with Future. He also released the music video for "We Paid" with his artist 42 Dugg this week.

Tristan “Mack” Wilds revealed to the world last week that he and his girlfriend, Christina Hammond, had officially welcomed their first child together, after announcing that they were expecting back in December. Last Thursday (April 30th), Mack shared a photo of a tiny fist wrapped around his thumb over top of a guitar, with the caption, “…My greatest creation was you… You. Glory.”

He and Christina shared few details at the time, but on Wednesday (May 6th), the couple officially introduced their daughter, Tristyn Naomi Wilds,  ESSENCE Magazine’s 50th anniversary issue. “It brings Christina and I great joy to introduce our daughter to the world the historic 50th Anniversary issue of the iconic publication, ESSENCE Magazine,” Mack wrote on a post featuring beautiful photos of the new family from their ESSENCE photo shoot.

It was revealed late last year that the happy couple would be welcoming their first child together, after what Mack had been in “a really dark place.” Last June, the singer-actor was arrested for driving with a suspended license, and while he managed to resolve the issue by paying all his fines, it was reflective of his struggles at the time. “I told God I needed a light,” he said while announcing Christina’s pregnancy. “I needed a sign that I was supposed to be here, and that my presence here on earth was needed…Heard ju, God.” Tristan addressed that time in his life further in their ESSENCE feature, noting that finding out he was going to become a father “just made me feel like I had to be a lot stronger. I had a lot of growing up and strengthening to do to be ready to take care of this little one.” Congrats to these two on their little bundle of joy!

Lil Baby Gives Quality Control An Ultimatum

Lil Baby wants his money and he wants it now, demanding $5 million from his label Quality Control.

Lil Baby knows his worth and he’s not afraid to ask for his money upfront. The Atlanta rapper has had a sensational year thus far, which included the release of his first-ever #1 album My Turn. Being recognized as Lil Wayne‘s favorite rapper in recent weeks, Lil Baby is shooting his shot at his label, demanding more money before he quits music altogether and returns to the streets.

Hopping on Instagram Live following the release of his new single “All In” from the upcoming deluxe edition of My Turn, Lil Baby sent a message to Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas to run him his money or he’s heading back to hustling.

“I told my label they need to give me $5 million or I’m going to hustle, fuck it,” said the rapper on Instagram Live. “Give me $5 million or I’m doing what I do.”

Considering the fact the Lil Baby is easily one of the hottest rappers in the entire game right now, Quality Control would be smart to run him his money. After the success of My Turn, there’s no telling how big the 25-year-old Atlanta native will become in the years to come, and $5 million is well-deserved at this point in his career.

Get your money, young king!

Ciara & Russell Wilson Reveal Baby Gender

Ciara and Russel Wilson reveal the gender of their second baby together.

Ciara and Russel Wilson announced their pregnancy at the top of January, indicating baby #3 was on the way. The two parents already have a daughter together, Sienna, while they co-parent with Future for baby Future Zahir. We've seen her baby bump grow since then, while she's shared updated along the way including how the pandemic has affected this particular pregnancy.

She revealed that she had to go to her recent Ultrasound appointment solo dolo because of the extra precautions many hospitals have implemented in the face of COVID-19. "Ultrasound visits during this era of Covid-19 is a bummer because my hubby [Russ Wilson] can’t come in with me to my visit. Truly a challenging time for expectant mothers," she wrote.

Today, though, Ciara is sharing some of the more enjoyable aspects of pregnancy, even if it's during a pandemic-- the gender reveal. Ciara and Russ rounded up their two children, Sienna and Future, to partake in the moment. Before revealing the gender of their baby, Ciara asks her children what they would like, with Future proclaiming he wants a baby brother while Sienna takes up the stance for a baby sister. Two seconds later the reveal happens, as Ciara and Russ pop blue smoke and glitter into the air, confirming that they are having a baby boy.

We're wishing them a happy and healthy pregnancy during this difficult time.

PnB Rock & Girlfriend Welcome Baby Girl

PnB Rock and his girlfriend, Stephanie Sibounheuang, welcomed their baby girl, Xuri Li, into the world last Friday.

PnB Rock and his girlfriend, Stephanie Sibounheuang, welcomed their baby girl, Xuri Li, into the world last Friday (March 27th), and the newborn is too cute for words. PnB shared the news on Twitter earlier this week, announcing the child's full name and birthday, already gushing over his little bundle of joy.

"IM SO IN LOVE WITH Xuri Li Sibounheuang," he exclaimed, followed by a separate tweet reading: "Xuri Was born into the 27th internet ain’t ready for her yet i swear lol." According to his first tweet, the couple decided to give Xuri her mom's last name, an unconventional but commendable choice. PnB and Stephanie have been dating for well over a year now. She announced her pregnancy back in December a vlog on her Youtube channel, where she documented her journey with the baby's father thus far.

PnB shared a video of his newborn on Instagram a few days after she was born, which he excitedly captioned, "“BABY XURIIIIIIII." In the comments, he went on to brag that his daughter had inherited one of his features, writing, "“SHE GOT MY NECK."

In the clip, baby Xuri tries to get her daddy to breast feed her, not realizing that he's the wrong parent for the job. Stephanie also gave the world a little peek at their baby girl. The new mama posted a photo of herself holding a sleeping Xuri, presumably after she had just finished nursing her. In the caption, she wrote, "That first time you get to hold your baby, you’ve waited so long to meet. Xuri Li Sibounheuang."

Congrats to this new family!

DaBaby Goes Baby On Baby With Cupcake Extravaganza

DaBaby proves he's for the children by channeling dad energy and leading the way in a family cookoff.

DaBaby may be a man of action, but that's not to say he isn't for the children; after all, he is prone to going baby, sometimes even baby on baby. During these desperate times of self-isolation and voluntary quarantine, one must find comfort in the simple pleasures of life. For DaBaby such pleasures include hosting a baking session, a cupcake extravaganza sure to lift the spirits of the young ones in his family.

Brad Barket/Getty Images

Taking to Instagram to stream the event, DaBaby introduced his sous-chefs as "Baby Kirk," "Neicy Red," and "Crazy Man." With the new Lil Uzi Vert album and Drake & Future's "Life Is Good" blasting in the background, Baby goes step by step in guiding the youngsters through the process. With their minds stimulated, the kids seem eager to be involved, prompting Baby to channel his dad energy and implore patience -- a futile task, given the volatile combination of children and sugar.

Yet somehow, he manages. Before long, the kids are stirring up a storm while DaBaby oversees the process proudly. "If they can't stop fighting put everybody to work! STIR! STIR! STIR!" he captions. Unfortunately, the clip leaves on a cliffhanger, leaving us without a glimpse of the finished project. Either way, it's a nice window into DaBaby as a family man, and it's wholesome to see him serving as a positive role model in an otherwise uncertain time. Be safe out there, and be sure to enjoy the little things.

Vanessa Bryant Asks Judge To Amend Kobe Bryant’s Trust To Include Baby Girl

Vanessa Bryant gave birth to her and Kobe Bryant’s daughter Capri a little over eight months ago, and the baby isn’t included on her husband’s trust.

She remains a pillar of strength for her family, and now Vanessa Bryant is making sure that all three of her daughters are taken care of financially. Vanessa continues to mourn the recent loss of husband Kobe Bryant and their 13-year-old daughter Gianna. As time presses forward, TMZ reports that Vanessa Bryant has filed legal documents asking a judge to amend her husband’s trust. It seems that Capri, their eight-month-old daughter, wasn’t included in Kobe’s trust prior to his untimely, tragic death.

TMZ states that Kobe enacted the trust back in 2003 and over the years, as their lives have changed, Kobe and Vanessa have amended the document—especially after each of their daughters was born. Kobe passed away before he and his wife could add Capri’s name to the trust, so Vanessa hopes that a judge will allow the addition.

The trust agreement reportedly states that Vanessa, her 17-year-old daughter Natalia, and her three-year-old daughter Bianka, “can draw from the principal and income in the trust during Vanessa’s lifetime, and then her kids get the remainder upon her death.” In the recent documents filed, Vanessa reportedly makes the claim that it was always Kobe Bryant’s intention to provide for all members of his family.

Sarah Palin Raps "Baby Got Back" On "The Masked Singer"

Sarah Palin is full of surprises and shocked "The Masked Singer" fans when she rapped Sir-Mix-a-Lot's classic hit on the hit show.

In a "bet you didn't see that coming" moment, former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin was revealed to be the Bear on The Masked Singer. The revelation came after the former 2008 Republic Party nominee for Vice President of the United States got on stage with background dancers in tow and performed Sir-Mix-a-Lot's 1992 classic party jam, "Baby Got Back."

Palin said she decided to go with the bear because her nickname is "Mama Bear." She added, "This mama bear is coming out of hibernation. Maybe I’ve been a bit polarizing, but just like a bear, it’s been to protect my cubs. Under this mask, I found the courage to come out of my cage, stop hiding and face the world head-on.” Host Nick Cannon said it was probably the most surprising reveal on The Masked Singer yet.

The former politician addressed her performance in a tweet as she shared a clip of the show and wrote, "?Yep... t’was me behind the #BearMask, I LOVED singing on The Masked Singer stage ~ it truly was a blast (now that it’s over!!) Great to work with the BEST producers & crew, many of whom have been so good to our family over the years." Watch Sarah Palin give Sir-Mix-a-Lot's classic a try below.

Lil Baby Gives Tutorial On Maintaining Diamond-Embedded Teeth

Lil Baby got expensive teeth to take care of.

We just got 20 songs detailing how hard Lil Baby is stunting on us with the release of his sophomore album, My Turn, but in case anyone missed the message, he’s broadcasting it on social media too.

On his Instagram story, the Atlanta rapper gave a tutorial on how to take care of your teeth… when you have little diamonds embedded in them. He addressed the video “To whom it may concern”, but given his extremely unique dental situation, only a very small faction of people will benefit from the tips he shared. “Just Cause You Bought Em Don’t Mean You Ain’t Gotta Brush Em,” he advised, likely referring to the fact that his pearly whites aren’t naturally-grown. After the brushing job was complete – thanks to the motivating soundtrack of his song, “Solid” – he showed off his gleaming smile in a follow-up photo. You then notice the mini circular diamonds shining in some of his rear teeth. If my teeth cost that much, I’d make sure to take care of them that diligently too.

Lil Baby has a lot to be smiling about these days, as he just secured his first No. 1 album by raking in a whopping 188,165 album-equivalent units in its first week. Read our review of My Turn

Lil Yachty, Drake & DaBaby Get Jiggy To "Oprah’s Bank Account" On Triller

Lil Yachty’s new single with Drake and DaBaby, “Oprah’s Bank Account”, is definitely one to dance around to.

When speaking to Complex about his new single, “Oprah’s Bank Account”, Lil Yachty said, “I think the song’s so good and catchy, my fans will appreciate it. That’s the most important thing.” He wasn’t wrong. The first offering off his next album, Lil Boat 3, features Drake and DaBaby, and it’s an undeniable bop. Its got a sing-songy hook and a bubblegum beat. Yachty managed to secure these heavy-hitters to assist him on the track, but failed to get squeezed into the schedule of someone else who could have added an uplifting touch: Lizzo. Regardless, we’re fully satisfied with the final product.

It even came accompanied by a creative and hilarious music video. Yachty takes on the role of an Oprah-esque talk show host/self care guru. Drake and DaBaby are brought into the female mogul’s bizarre world of branding. All three of the rappers must have had a good time filming this playful video and proof of this is seen in the Triller clip they recorded on set too.

TikTok and Triller have become effective mediums for artists to promote their songs. If they dance along to their jams, fans might catch the bug and start doing it themselves, potentially setting off a chain of viral videos. Megan Thee Stallion just tried to capitalize off this formula by starting a sexy dance challenge for her new single, “Captain Hook”. Lil Yachty looks to be doing the same. He grabbed Drake and DaBaby to get jiggy to their collab for Triller purposes. Watch below.

New mom Cassie hopped on Instagram to show off her beautiful family of three, including husband Alex Fine and baby girl Frankie Stone Fine.

Since giving birth to a beautiful baby girl last December, Cassie has been the poster child for what it means to be a happy new mom as well as newlywed alongside husband Alex Fine. If her latest set of IG flicks are any sign of the future, we’ll definitely be seeing her reveling in this happiness for a long time coming.

We’re sure the “Must Be Love” singer couldn’t have predicted she’d be a mom herself when attending VH1’s Dear Mama: A Love Letter To Moms event two years ago (seen above), but motherhood sure does fit her to a tee. Posing with her new family of three, Cassie made all 7 million of her Instagram followers let out a collective sigh for just how perfect they look together. Heart emojis and well wishes filled the comments on both pics she decided to share, and we’d have to agree that they sparked a serious feeling of love with these “glam fam” kodak moments. May they continue to flourish and live out their best lives as a young and beautiful new family.

DaBaby Gives Fans Who Want Selfies Free Tickets To His Concert

DaBaby showed love to his supporters in the Midwest when he surprised them with guestlist passes.

Two things are most likely to happen when fans see an artist they admire in real life: they take pictures or record from afar, or they approach with enthusiasm and ask for a photo. Most of the time, the only thing the fan walks away with is a selfie and possibly an autograph, but DaBaby upped the stakes when he gave his admirers an extra bonus.

On Thursday (February 20), DaBaby hopped on Instagram to share a video of himself with his fans. While he was out and about in the Midwest, the North Carolina rapper was repeatedly stopped and asked to pose for a photo. So, he thought it would be a good way to show love by giving away tickets.

“DaBaby decides to give every fan that ask for a picture free tickets to his show tonight in Wichita, Kansas,” the text reads in the video before the clip shows the rapper on his phone personally putting names on the guestlist. “F*ck a picture, you & all your friends get free tickets to the show tonight,” he wrote in the caption. Some people requested four or five spots, but DaBaby didn’t have a problem with it.

It’s not uncommon for DaBaby to give back to those who have supported his career. Last year, the rapper helped a homeless mother who was selling her knitted items in order to provide for herself and her son. Check out DaBaby’s recent Instagram video below.

Paul McCartney once sent baby poo to lying music journalist after bad review: “It was the perfect response to a crude British pressman”

Paul McCartney once sent baby poo to a lying journalist to get back at him for writing a scathing review of Wings‘ live show.

The anecdote was shared in the new book, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run – an oral history of the band McCartney went on to form with his then-wife Linda, following The Beatles splitting up.

Published yesterday (November 4), the book contains around 150 photographs, as well as diary entries and handwritten lyrics, and anecdotes from the likes of Stella McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, George Martin, Sean Ono Lennon, Chrissie Hynde, Dustin Hoffman, Twiggy, and all the members of Wings.

In one of the anecdotes, drummer Denny Seiwell revealed how the band got their fair share of negative reviews over the years, including from a journalist who lied about watching one of their shows.

Seiwell recalled how Wings were briefly joined on tour by a writer in the early ‘70s who claimed he wouldn’t be reviewing their show, but rather writing a story about how the members brought their families on tour.

At that time, Paul and Linda had three children together: Heather, Mary and Stella. They would later go on to welcome a son called James and, after Linda died in 1998, Paul would have another daughter, Beatrice, in 2003 with second wife Heather Mills.

Discussing the time with the journalist, Seiwell said: “We take him along to the sound check. We let him backstage. We let him on the bus. We let him see how we live and all that. He didn’t stay for the concert. He flew home.”

A week later, however, the members were surprised to see that the writer shared a “full-on review” of the show that he didn’t attend.

“And he slagged it. Everything about it! The way we lived. The way we travelled. The way we sounded,” the drummer said, adding that Paul and Linda came up with an unconventional way to get back at him.

“Stella was a baby at the time. So Paul and Linda took one of those little plastic soap dishes from the hotel we were in and they got one of Stella’s turds, put it in the soap dish, wrapped it up and sent it to him,” he claimed.

“You heard that from me. I don’t care if they want it to be known or not. I thought it was the perfect response to a crude British pressman.”

News of the new book first arrived in February, and Macca would later go on to reveal the cover – showing members on tour in Spain in 1972 – and a foreword. On Monday (November 3), he also shared an exclusive photo that would be included in the book – showing him and Jimmy McCulloch, photographed by Linda, on a yacht in the Virgin Islands – along with an excerpt.

Stella McCartney has since gone on to become a fashion designer and, as well as having her own namesake brand, also worked as creative director for Chloé between 1997 and 2001.

In Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run, she explained how her passion for design stemmed from her parents, and how she would “literally always look at images of them from the archives”.

“All of my degree shows at Central Saint Martins, my work with Chloé and my work today is still influenced by their style,” she said (via US Weekly). “I’m lucky enough to have some of those pieces, and I feel like I’m safeguarding them for the future generations.”

There have been a number of releases celebrating Wings over the past two years. These have included the theatrical release of the film One Hand Clapping and its accompanying 1974 live-in-studio album, as well as a 50th anniversary edition of their 1973 third album, ‘Band On The Run’.

Earlier in 2025, the band also released a 50th anniversary reissue of their fourth studio album, 1975’s ‘Venus And Mars’.

Later this month, Wings are sharing a definitive self-titled anthology collection, personally overseen by Paul McCartney. It will feature the band’s hits ‘Band On The Run’, ‘Live And Let Die’, ‘Jet’ and ‘Let ‘Em In’, and include an expanded 32-page booklet featuring photographs, artwork, paintings, trivia and information about the group. Kim Kardashian releases Travis Barker-produced ‘Santa Baby’ cover with Macaulay Culkin-starring video

Kim Kardashian has surprise released a cover of festive classic ‘Santa Baby’ produced by brother-in-law Travis Barker.

The lo-fi take on the song has Kardashian singing in a low, breathy whisper backed by a saxophone and piano.

Notably, the accompanying music video – directed by Nadia Lee Cohen and Charlie Denis (who has previously worked with Tyler, the Creator and A$AP Rocky) – features a cameo from Macaulay Culkin. It features Kardashian crawling her way through an unhinged Christmas party, including some rather unfriendly-looking Santa’s helpers, models playing Twister and a person in a creepy reindeer costume.

Culkin appears at the end of the music video, where Kardashian crawls up to him while he’s seemingly filming the whole nightmare party with an old-fashioned camcorder.

The song and visuals have been widely slated online by fans who were both confused by the entire release or believed it was poor quality.

“Wow this is so fucking stupid. When cornballs think they can make art.,” one X/Twitter user wrote.

“We need a way to communicate with the general public that just because something is lofi doesn’t mean it’s good,” said another.

A third wrote: “Why is Kim looking or trying to look like Marilyn Monroe idk cause that’s not who sings the song”

“This is one of the weirdest things you will ever watch,” another wrote.

It’s not the first time Kardashian has released music, having previously dropped the critically panned single ‘Jam (Turn It Up)’ in 2011 in aid of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Kardashian later admitted that she regretted releasing the track.

Listen to Nation Of Language’s eerie cover of Darlene Love’s ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’

Nation Of Language have shared a cover of Darlene Love’s festive classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ – check it out below.

The Brooklyn indie synthpop trio – made up of Ian Devaney, Aidan Noell and Alex MacKay – have put a distinctive spin on the 1963 track that was famously part of Phil Spector’s A Christmas Gift For You compilation.

Nation Of Language join the likes of U2, Cher, Mariah Carey and Death Cab For Cutie in covering the song, which Spector also wrote alongside Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry. In this version, the band infuse the track with eerie, spacious production and slower pacing, eking out the song’s bittersweet emotional inner life.

It is just the latest new Christmas-themed release in recent weeks: Laufey shared a cover of ‘Santa Baby’, complete with a video starring Bill Murray, Charlie Puth has put out a Wham!-inspired new single ‘December 25th’, while BTS’ V has teamed up with the Bing Crosby estate for a new version of ‘White Christmas’.

Black Star Riders frontman Ricky Warwick has also given a heavier festive option with ‘All I Want For Christmas…Is Christmas!’, alongside The Cult’s Billy Duffy and Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, while NFL star Jason Kelce is about to release an entire Christmas album, including collaborations with Stevie Nicks, Boyz II Men and his brother Travis.

The single is the first new music from Nation Of Language since the release of their third studio album ‘Strange Disciple’ in September 2023. In a four-star review of the record, NME wrote: “‘Strange Disciple’ is a testament to the band’s growth in the brisk three years since their debut. With their third album, Nation Of Language prove they’re able to stretch their auditory imagination, all while sticking to their roots. In just 10 quick tracks, the NYC band demonstrate that their reminiscent sound has always been more about the future than the past.”

babyMINT: the Taiwanese girl group making irreverent, irresistible pop bangers

babyMINT are game for whatever. The Taiwanese girl group’s biggest single, the absurdly titled and TikTok-viral ‘Hellokittybalahcurrihellokitty美味しい’, is stuffed with musical ideas: an opening cheer routine set to retro video game synths, a playful rap about eating your vegetables, and a rave breakdown that trails off into cathartic screams. Watch babyMINT’s six members lazily floss and tackle the song’s head-banging choreography alongside its maximalist production, and you’ll find yourself breaking into a wide grin.

babyMINT formed via Next Girlz, a Taiwanese reality competition between six trainee girl groups that aired last year on YouTube. Over 12 weekly episodes, they went through near-constant stylistic switches: no idea felt off-limits as they put their whimsical and eccentric flair on trendy sounds like hyperpop and drum’n’bass. Reflecting on the show, they consider it a learning experience. Each round’s experimentation helped solidify the babyMINT concept and made them more self-assured on- and off-stage. “This is babyMINT,” asserts Vikky, “we are weird and we accept it.”

The six members who made their official debut as babyMINT last month – LIN (who was formerly known as Lin Lin in the now-defunct K-pop group Cherry Bullet), Vikky, Siena, PX, XuXu, and Yun – gravitate towards different styles. Asked about their favourite Next Girlz performances, the results vary: LIN mentions their Jersey club remix of Karencici’s ‘Nobody Loves U :(’ while Yun declares ‘ICKY蛙化 °(╭╮)°’ as her favourite thanks to its powerful drill beat. For Siena, it’s the dynamic ‘GrAb Me If U CaN!!’ while Vikky and XuXu select ballad ‘No Way’ and the aforementioned ‘Hellokittybalahcurrihellokitty美味しい’, respectively. PX, after hearing everyone’s responses, proudly states that they’re all her favourite. The different answers aren’t just a measure of each member’s unique tastes, but of all the various concepts they embraced during Next Girlz.

Their performances in Next Girlz were collected in the December compilation ‘Loading… FUN!’, which is packed with thrilling oddball production choices and razor-sharp hooks. It occasionally can feel disjointed. To Vikky, “every song is another babyMINT,” while Siena says the album chronicles the group’s journey to narrow down their concept. babyMINT didn’t win Next Girlz, but the resulting compilation has since gone on to receive unexpected acclaim in the Mandopop world: ‘Loading… FUN!’ and ‘Hellokittybalahcurrihellokitty美味しい’ were nominated for Best Album and Best Single respectively at Singapore’s FreshMusic Awards.

Another version of babyMINT was introduced in August with the drop of their official debut single ‘BOOOOOORING’. The sparky electropop track is about trying to get out of dull, repetitive routines, and during their chat with NME, the group are more than happy to reproduce for us some of the meme samples in the track’s background. As they talk about the song and its accompanying video inspired by The Matrix, they sound more confident about their direction. “We want to show that there are no limits to what we can do,” says Vikky.

There are a lot of small details in ‘BOOOOOORING’ and its music video. What were your favourites?

XuXu: “During the recording of ‘BOOOOOORING,’ we added a lot of phonetic meme sounds. Every ‘boring’ is different and represents each of our personalities. The producer, lyricists, and choreographer give us a lot of space for our creativity. They are all very considerate of our ideas.”

PX: “We have a really cool stunt in our choreography. It’s a 360-degree flip performed by six members. It’s in reference to the classic movie The Matrix, paying tribute to a clip where they flipped and knocked down all the bad guys.”

Siena of babyMINT, photo by HIM International Music Inc.

Vikky: “In our music video, all the guns shoot gummy bears. I feel like it’s very unique and it shows that we are just doing fun things, just playing around. I feel like we are giving a deep message, but using funny methods. I’m French and so our producers wanted to add that into the music video. So I have a baguette and a croissant almost everywhere.”

Siena: “That was the first idea he came up with when creating this music video.”

Vikky: “And I thought he was joking [laughs].”

“This is babyMINT: we are weird and we accept it” – Vikky

Yun: “I had a lot of [high-pitched]boring, boring, boring’. And that sound is from when we were chatting with each member. Our producer was just like ‘this sounds very good’ and just used it. I have a meme sound [imitates Steve Carell] ‘no, God, please, no.’ We were just chatting and we didn’t know that sound was recorded.”

How does ‘BOOOOOORING’ differ from some of the songs you performed on Next Girlz?

Vikky: “I feel like on the show we were still searching for what our concept is. Every stage, we have a different concept. Now we are all united. We have a song called ‘Hellokittybalahcurrihellokitty美味しい’ that was an unexpected hit. So after that, we came out with the idea that we are suited for a more cute and more quirky, weird concept. This is why we think that we are very experimental, because we are trying a lot of unique concepts. Our new song ‘BOOOOOORING’ is darker, the concept is more cool and it just combines everything we had to do on the show.”

LIN: “I think we now have a stronger sense of unity. Next Girlz was more about preparing for the stage and we were only just starting to get to know each other. This song ‘BOOOOOORING’ is the result of us having developed a stronger team relationship. Viewers might not be able to see it, but to me, the difference is enormous.”

XuXu of babyMINT, photo by HIM International Music Inc.

In one episode, when you first hear the title ‘Hellokittybalahcurrihellokitty美味しい’, you all look shocked. What was your first reaction to hearing that song?

LIN: “Our first reaction was… [makes shocked expression]. This song’s title is very game-like and dynamic, so we thought, ‘what a cute and interesting song.’ Before we heard the chorus we were still smiling, then when it got faster, instantly the corners of our mouths twitched and we thought ‘what is this…’ [laughs] But because the manager was beside us, we were like ‘wow… so cool.’”

“Since our mentors give us lots of creative space it helps us to be more confident when being ourselves” – LIN

Vikky: “And honestly when we were first listening, everyone was like ‘what? what? hello kitty what?’ Like guava and curry, these two things don’t go well together.”

Siena: “Because I joined the group later, I hadn’t participated in the previous stages. I was looking forward to being part of this performance. But when I first heard this song, I said, ‘I don’t want it anymore!’ We had a lot of doubts. The previous songs were prettier concepts and suddenly this was an otaku concept. When we saw everyone’s reactions, we didn’t expect that so many people would like it.”

[embedded content]

You work a lot with producer A.F and choreographer Xiao Du. What’s your working relationship with them like?

Vikky: “They all listen to what we want and are very considerate. They don’t push us to do things we don’t want to do. For example, the turn in ‘BOOOOOORING’, which is a very dangerous move, she was very scared if someone would get injured but we were like ‘we can do this move, we got it.’”

LIN: “I feel like they’re like life coaches. When we doubt ourselves doing these things, they don’t question if we’re doing it wrong. Instead, they tell us that bravely experimenting is the best. Everyone, including our company, pays attention to our ideas, as well as our physical and mental health. I feel like this is something we need because our eccentric style often makes us doubtful if we’re doing things the right way. Since our mentors give us lots of creative space it helps us to be more confident when being ourselves.”

I know Vikky and LIN participated in writing lyrics for ‘La Nueva Era’ and XuXu composed the violin part on ‘No Way’. Is that something you’d like to participate in more?

XuXu: “In ‘No Way,’ I wrote the violin part. I have been studying music since I was a child and have studied composition. Our music producer gave me the opportunity to write this section. ‘No Way’ is a very different song for us because we didn’t usually perform lyrical songs. I added some of my interpretation of the music and was very happy to get this opportunity.”

Vikky: “For our first performance, I wrote lyrics in Spanish and LIN wrote the Korean rap. I feel like if we can, another song would have lyrics in maybe French, Spanish, Korean, or Japanese. Why not? We want to try new things.”

DaBaby says losing $200million over homophobic rant was “a blessing in disguise”

DaBaby has said that losing $200million (£160,780,000) after a homophobic rant he made in 2021 was “a blessing in disguise”.

Back in February 2021, DaBaby got on stage and made homophobic comments and misleading statements about HIV/AIDS.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three week,” he told the crowd at Rolling Loud. “Fellas, if you ain’t suck a n****a dick in the parking lot, put your cell phone lights in the air. Keep it fucking real.”

He also brought Tory Lanez on stage with him after he was arrested for shooting his former friend and frequent collaborator Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020.

On Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, the rapper was asked if there was one thing in his career he regrets. DaBaby eventually replied: “I wish I told Rolling Loud I missed my flight. I’ll send the money back, I missed my flight,” the North Carolina rapper joked – making light of the career-damaging comments.

Sharpe asked DaBaby, “How different would your life have been if that moment [at Rolling Loud] didn’t happen?” before estimating how much more money he would have. The rapper then kept Sharpe guessing until they reached the figure of $200million.

“Where would I be mentally and spiritually if I wasn’t forced to sit my ass down and self-reflect? I still didn’t even sit down when it first happened, I was still fighting it and fighting it and fighting it. ‘Hell nah, that ain’t what it is. That ain’t what it is,'” DaBaby explained about the immediate aftermath of his comments.

DaBaby told Sharpe that, with the large amount of money he had in his bank accounts, he “wasn’t happy as a person” back then. Nowadays, he “ain’t tripping”: “I don’t regret anything that I done been through. It feels so good to be able to say that and mean it. I done probably said that before but I ain’t really mean it.

“I was like ‘Boy I wish I had …$200million, y’all robbed me.’ I don’t feel like that. I really feel like that’s a blessing in disguise at this point in my life and I just came to that realization in the past two weeks. I really feel like I needed that season that I done had to endure. That will make me way more happier as a person and way more of a man for the remainder of my life… I love the space I’m in as a person.”

[embedded content]

Elsewhere in the interview, DaBaby claimed that his verse on Kanye West’s controversial ‘Donda’ track ‘Jail pt. 2′ was better than Jay-Z‘s. Lil Yachty shared this sentiment on his podcast, A Safe Place, saying, “In my personal opinion, I think DaBaby had a better verse.”

DaBaby told Sharpe: “It was. You heard both of them? Jay-Z, I ain’t got nothing but respect for you, [but] was your verse better than mine? Come on, OG. It wasn’t. That’s OK. We ain’t do it at the same time. It ain’t like you had the ability to say [let me do it over].”

This year, DaBaby dropped two EPs. The first was ‘Call Da Fireman’ featuring songs ‘Sellin Crack’ with Offset and the TikTok-popular ‘Shake Sumn’. Sexyy Red appeared on the remix for the latter. Last month, he dropped his second EP of the year, ‘LETS DO IT’.

In other news, the rapper had been found not liable in a $6million (£4,831,083) lawsuit over an alleged dispute with a music promoter. The promoter apparently short-changed DaBaby when paying him for a live performance.

New YG Entertainment girl group BABYMONSTER to debut in November

YG Entertainment’s new girl group, BABYMONSTER, are finally set to debut in November, the agency has confirmed.

The act will be the first female group to debut on the label since BLACKPINK arrived under the agency in 2016.

BABYMONSTER’s debut track will boast a “powerful mood”, according to YG. “To come up with the best output, we have been extra cautious about the lead track,” the label said in a press release (per Korea JoongAng Daily).

“All preparations have been completed, and when the girl group officially debuts in November, we plan on relentlessly marching forward at full speed, so please look forward [to BABYMONSTER].”

[embedded content]

It added that the group is practicing the song’s choreography and will shoot the music video for the single later this month.

Previously, BABYMONSTER had been scheduled to debut in September. At the time that timeframe was reported, it was said the agency had chosen a “strong hip-hop song” for the group to debut with.

Earlier this year, YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk confirmed the line-up for the upcoming girl group would feature all seven members featured in the group’s web show Last Evaluation, despite previously saying the group would only include five members. The final line-up includes Ahyeon, Ruka, Chiquita, Haram, Pharita, Rora and Asa.

Over the course of Last Evaluation, the members underwent challenges in order for YG Entertainment to choose who would debut. During the show, the members of the girl group performed covers of popular songs, from BLACKPINK’s ‘Stay’ to Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘traitor’.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK are still negotiating their contract renewals with YG Entertainment, following their seventh anniversary earlier this year. In the midst of the discussions, rapper Jennie released a special solo single, ‘You & Me’, last week (October 6) after premiering the track on the ‘Born Pink’ world tour.

DaBaby successfully delays lawsuits claiming he “sucker-punched” 64-year-old man

A lawsuit claiming that DaBaby punched a 64-year-old man has been suspended, pending resolution of a parallel felony battery charge against the rapper, according to the latest judge ruling yesterday (November 8).

The lawsuit also claims that DaBaby – real name Jonathan Kirk – knocked out the man’s tooth, stole his phone and vandalised his Hollywood mansion. Los Angeles County Judge Terry Green stated that Kirk has a Fifth Amendment right to refuse to sit for a deposition or answer any written discovery questions in the civil case.

The Kanye West collaborator faces up to four years in prison if convicted of the “battery with serious bodily injury” charge filed against him by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

“I can’t say no to them. They have a felony complaint,” Judge Green said at a hearing in Los Angeles (per Rolling Stone). “This is not just a potential out there in the universe that, ‘Gee, maybe the D.A. might file on this.’”

The judge went on to say that he would allow plaintiff Gary Pagar, the alleged victim in the criminal case, to continue his pursuit of documents and third parties related to his civil claims of battery, fraud, breach of contract, conversion and trespassing.

Part of Pagar’s complaint centres on his claim that he rented his home to Kirk under a “vacation” lease that specified no more than 12 people could occupy the property – a stipulation he claims was immediately disregarded when 40 people were brought to the estate. The people allegedly included a professional film crew whom he claims had been employed to shoot the rapper’s video for ‘Play U Lay’ without permission.

According to the complaint, Kirk and others with him destroyed the home’s security camera shortly after Pagar demanded that the video shoot cease immediately. When Pagar turned up at the property in person, Kirk allegedly “sucker-punched [him] in the face, knocking out his tooth and leaving him bruised and bloodied”, according to the lawsuit.

Pagar then claimed that Kirk and a group of unidentified men began “pushing him, shoving, spitting on him, threatening him, and taunting him”. He alleges that Kirk and the men “tossed” Pagar’s phone back and forth and scratched Pagar’s car with keys.

The lawsuit claims that Kirk only left the scene after Pagar informed him that the police had been called. The complaint and its exhibits list numerous damages to his property as well as the disappearance of his $1,149 phone.

Kirk has pleaded not guilty to the felony battery charge and filed his motion last month asking the court to freeze the civil lawsuit until the criminal matter runs its course.

The rapper argued that because the cases involve the same dispute dating back to December 2020, he has a Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination and conceal his defence ahead of a potential criminal trial.

DaBaby has been embroiled in numerous controversies and legal battles in recent years, including the 2018 altercation in which he shot and killed 19-year-old Jaylin Craig, which the rapper has consistently claimed was in self-defence.

Dua Lipa on breaking into acting: “For me it’s baby steps”

Dua Lipa has spoken about her first foray into acting.

  • READ MORE: Dua Lipa – “If somebody told me not to discuss issues I’m passionate about? I wouldn’t listen”

The pop star plays an undisclosed role in Apple TV+‘s forthcoming spy thriller Argylle, which is slated for release next year, opposite Henry Cavill.

Lipa has addressed her acting debut on a recent episode of her podcast Dua Lipa: At Your Service on iHeartMedia.

Speaking to Schitt’s Creek creator and star Dan Levy on the episode, Lipa reflected on shooting the film. “I had a really great time, and it was really exciting, but I think for me it’s like baby steps,” she said.

“I think that’s also just, like, the best way to discover yourself as well. Rather than throwing yourself in the deep end with something that maybe you can’t completely tackle head on. Like, I think my biggest fear would be taking on a really big role and being, like, fuck. Now I have to, like, be an actor and feel these emotions and feelings on camera, when I haven’t, like, you know, brought myself up to that point yet. But definitely really exciting.”

Earlier this year a first look at Cavill and Lipa in Matthew Vaughn’s forthcoming film was shared – see that below.

The film, which adapts the currently unpublished novel by Ellie Conway, features an ensemble cast of Cavill and Lipa alongside Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara and Ariana DeBose, with John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson.

According to a press release, the film “follows the globe-trotting adventures of a super-spy named Argylle across the US, London and other exotic locations”.

Vaughn (Kingsman) is on board to direct from a script written by Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman), produced by Marv and Vaughn’s regular collaborators Adam Bohling and David Reid, as well as Fuchs. Zygi Kamasa, Carlos Peres, Claudia Vaughn and Adam Fishbach will serve as executive producers.

Meanwhile, in other Dua Lipa news the singer revealed recently that she feels more in “control” on her forthcoming new album than ever before.

Her follow-up to her 2020 smash ‘Future Nostalgia’ was first teased in January when Lipa said she had “done a big chunk of writing” for the new record.

In March, the pop star then revealed that the album was “50 per cent done” and is “starting to take shape”.

She has since spoken further of the new record, telling Vogue Australia: “As I’m writing my new album, I feel even more liberated in a completely different way. And even more in control than I thought.”

There’s been an increase in David Bowie-inspired baby names since his death

David Bowie-inspired baby names have been on the increase since the icon died in 2016, new figures have found.

  • READ MORE: Inside Moonage Daydream: the David Bowie doc that nearly killed its director

According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of boys registered with the name Ziggy, a reference to his acclaimed 1972 album ‘Ziggy Stardust’, at birth in England and Wales rose from 49 to 136 between 2016 and 2021.

The number of boys registered with the name Bowie also rose from 35 to 78 during the same period.

The names grew in popularity for girls too, with 28 girls called Bowie and 14 called Ziggy last year. The name Ezra also rose in prominence following George Ezra‘s success with 1,226 boys registered with the name last year.

Like Ezra, the number of baby girls named Mabel also peaked in 2021 at 885, which followed particularly large increases in 2018 and 2020.

This may have been influenced by the singer and songwriter Mabel, whose breakthrough single ‘Finders Keepers’ reached the Top 10 in 2017, according to the new research.

Elsewhere, Star Wars, Pixar movies and the TV show Sex Education were also among the cultural influences credited with boosting the popularity of less common names.

Meanwhile, it was recently announced that Bowie’s fourth studio album, ‘Hunky Dory’, will be released as a deluxe reissue that will include unreleased home demos, live recordings and other rarities from that era.

Last month, Brett Morgen’s Bowie documentary film Moonage Daydream also arrived in cinemas, along with an accompanying companion album featuring previously unheard material, unique mixes created for the film, and dialogue from Bowie.

In a five-star review of the film, NME wrote: “Morgen’s film isn’t a greatest hits set. It’s much better than that. It’s an avant garde portrait of an artist that scratches away at the surface paint to reveal the many layers beneath. You should seek it out, immediately.”

Seven fans arrested at Breakout Festival after Lil Baby cancels headline set

Seven people have been arrested after Lil Baby cancelled his headline slot at the Breakout Festival in Canada.

  • READ MORE: Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby review: an illuminating look at a rap superstar striving for change

The rapper’s performance was pulled due to illness at 9.30pm local time last night (September 18), 30 minutes before the Vancouver festival was due to close.

As a result, videos from the event following the announcement appeared to show attendees ripping down tents, throwing bins, toppling refrigerators, breaking tables and raiding a drinks tent.

Police said seven people were arrested for breach of the peace and a criminal investigation has been launched, reports the Vancouver Sun.

Lil Baby apologised for pulling out earlier today (September 19), writing on his Instagram Stories: “I would like to start off by saying I truly apologise Vancouver, Canada, the Breakout Festival, and to everyone who was in attendance! I have been going so hard these past few months without any breaks that it finally caught up with me. And my body completely shut down. I owe you guys big time and will for sure make up for it soon.”

His cancellation came after Lil Uzi Vert, Polo G, and Sofaygo also pulled out of the festival.

Crescendo1, one of the companies organising the event, issued a statement following the chaos and offered partial refunds.

“We do not condone violence or destruction of property and are utterly disappointed with the way some of our patrons acted at this year’s event,” their statement read. “Safety of our guests and venue staff is our number one concern. We did everything to make Breakout a unique and enjoyable experience for Vancouver’s rap fans.”

Laura Ballance, a spokesperson for the Pacific National Exhibition amphitheater, told the Vancouver Sun there was “significant damage” done to the venue and parts of Hastings Park.

She said: “To our neighbours – the PNE is incredibly sorry for the actions of those guests and impact this behaviour may have had on our community. We will be undertaking a full investigation and will be making further statements shortly.”

Meanwhile, Lil Baby recently announced his third studio album, ‘It’s Only Me’, which is due to arrive on October 14 via Motown.

Per a press release, the dancefloor-ready ‘Hey Baby’ has become the most requested cut at I. JORDAN’s DJ sets.

“Hey Baby is a fun club track that doesn’t take itself seriously!” Jordan explained. “I’ve been playing it in clubs and festivals for the last year and it’s always gone down a treat.”

They described the atmospheric, glitchy sounds of ‘I Had The Best Of Times’ as “the calming balance to ‘Hey Baby'”. It was created during “a reflective time over the Christmas holidays just over a year ago,” Jordan said.

Tune in below:

I. JORDAN, who was nominated for Best Producer at the BandLab NME Awards 2022, performed at Glastonbury 2022 this summer. They are due to appear at Connect Festival in Edinburgh tomorrow (August 26) ahead of further dates in London (August 28 and September 2).

Offset shares new song ‘5 4 3 2 1’, produced by Baby Keem

As promised earlier this week, Offset has shared a new song called ‘5 4 3 2 1’ that was produced by Baby Keem.

  • READ MORE: Migos: “We show up with the goods and prove you wrong”

The new song arrives amid rumours that Migos are no longer a trio, with Quavo and Takeoff sharing a new joint single without Offset titled ‘Us Vs. Them’ earlier this month.

The song, also produced by Jahaan Sweet, Mike Dean and Ruchaun Maurice Akers Jr. alongside Keem, comes complete with a video shot in an amusement park.

Watch the ‘5 4 3 2 1’ video below.

‘Us Vs. Them’ is Quavo and Takeoff’s second collaborative release for the year, following the May release of ‘Hotel Lobby’ (which they dropped under the moniker Unc And Phew). The new cut arrives under the two rappers’ usual stage names and features a guest appearance from Gucci Mane.

Landing alongside ‘Us Vs. Them’ was the news that Quavo and Takeoff would perform a show as Migos without Offset in tow. The group were recently announced as a headline act for this year’s National Battle Of The Bands in Houston. However, a flyer for the event – scheduled for Saturday, August 27 – only showed images of Quavo and Takeoff.

Rumours of Migos’ breakup started swirling shortly after the release of ‘Hotel Lobby’, when it was reported that Offset had unfollowed both of his bandmates on Instagram. Less than a month later, in June, Migos pulled out of their scheduled performance at the 2022 Governors Ball festival, with organisers for the event saying they would no longer appear “due to circumstances out of [their] control”.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar recently declared fellow Californian rapper, songwriter and record producer Baby Keem – who is also his cousin – to be a “musical genius”. Keem is supporting Lamar on his worldwide ‘The Big Steppers’ tour behind new album ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’.

At the time, a representative for Migos stated that despite the cancellation, they were still a group, with TMZ reporting that the reason for their withdrawal from the lineup was due to Quavo being busy filming a movie and being unable to work around the scheduling conflict.

In June, Quavo and Offset performed as Migos as part of the Summer Smash 2022 festival in Chicago, performing multiple tracks (including ‘Hotel Lobby’) without their bandmate present.

Migos’ most recent album together was last year’s ‘Culture III’. In a four-star review, NME said the record saw the trio “successfully pick up from where they left off” with ‘Culture II’, and that “the latest chapter in the trio’s career certainly seems unlikely to be overlooked by the masses who have embraced the group for the best part of a decade”.

Kendrick Lamar declares Baby Keem to be a “musical genius”

Kendrick Lamar has declared fellow Californian rapper, songwriter and record producer Baby Keem – who is also Lamar’s cousin – to be a “musical genius”.

Being relatives, Lamar and Keem have worked closely together since the latter started his career in the mid-2010s. One of Keem’s earliest credits was a nod for production on ‘Redemption Interlude’, a track on Lamar’s 2018 soundtrack for Black Panther. March 2020 then saw Keem sign to Lamar’s company/label, pgLang, and the following August, their first collaborative single came in the form of ‘Family Ties’.

That song, as well as another joint track titled ‘Range Brothers’ – and ‘Vent’, which featured an uncredited guest spot from Lamar – appeared on Keem’s pgLang-issued debut album, ‘The Melodic Blue’ (which NME called one of the best debut albums of 2021).

The NME 100 member linked back up with Lamar for three songs on his own latest album, ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’, co-writing and -producing ‘N95’, co-producing the Blxst and Amanda Reifer-assisted ‘Die Hard’, and guesting on ‘Saviour’ alongside Sam Dew.

The cousins have also appeared together onstage a handful of times over the past couple of years, including spots at this year’s Coachella and Glastonbury festivals. For the past month, Keem has been opening for Lamar on the ‘Big Steppers’ world tour – they’re currently midway through the North American leg, with shows in Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand still to follow.

Overnight, Lamar hit Twitter with a range of declarations pertaining to the tour, calling his current setup “the greatest show alive”. He then referred to Keem as a “musical genius”, and described Tanna Leone – who is also supporting the tour, and performed alongside Lamar on ‘Mr. Morale’ from the titular album – as “generation next”.

Lamar, notably, gave no context whatsoever for his takes.

The North American leg of the ‘Big Steppers’ tour continues in Detroit tonight (August 14), with a further 22 dates on the itinerary before the run heads to Europe. Lamar, Keem and Leone will then play 16 shows in the region – as well as 10 in the UK – and then head to Australia and New Zealand for the final leg of eight shows. See the full list of dates here, then find tickets for the American shows here, for Europe and the UK here, and for Australia and New Zealand here.

‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ earned a five-star review from NME – wherein Kyann-Sian Williams called it “a cathartic, soul-baring autobiography” – while the album has also received praise from the likes of Lorde, Pharrell Williams, Madonna, producer DJ Dahi, Eminem and Tyler, The Creator.

Yesterday (August 13), it was reported that Lamar would be eligible for the Best Live Action Short award at the 2023 Oscars, thanks to the extended music video for ‘We Cry Together’ being screened theatrically. Earlier this month, he played a surprise intimate show in New York, and shared a heartfelt letter reflecting on the power of rap music.

At the start of the month, Sounwave – a collaborator and producer of Lamar’s – revealed that he and Lamar had begun working on the follow-up to ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’.

Travis Scott and NAV join forces with Lil Baby for new single ‘Never Sleep’

Travis Scott has shared his first song as a primary artist since last November, teaming up with NAV to deliver the Lil Baby-assisted ‘Never Sleep’.

  • READ MORE: Travis Scott – ‘Astroworld’ review: a lush, complex, extraordinarily accomplished album

The song – produced by Tay Keith and Grayson, with co-production from Mike Dean – serves as the lead single from NAV’s upcoming fourth album, ‘Demons Protected By Angels’, which according to a press release, will be “coming soon”.

He and Scott share the song’s chorus, rapping: “Geeked, never sleep / Stretch a hundred to millions in weeks / Got her runnin’ and ridin’ for me / Where it’s sunny we gotta retreat / Straight from London, she out in the East / Let her shop and she keep the receipts / Don’t you tell him you got it from me / After this, I’ma need therapy.

“I been buildin’ up my legacy / Hundreds on hundreds, on fold / I been up so far, somewhere / Stuck at the top and it’s nowhere to go.”

Take a look at the lyric video for ‘Never Sleep’ below:

Aside from an uncredited guest feature on Kanye West’s ‘Donda 2’ cut ‘Pablo’, Scott has had a relatively quiet year on the release front. Back in April, though, he appeared on the single ‘Hold That Heat’ alongside Future and 808 Mafia producer Southside. His last headlined release was the double A-side of ‘Mafia’ and ‘Escape Plan’, which landed last November as the first previews of his upcoming ‘Utopia’ album.

The rapper is still making a gradual comeback to the spotlight following last year’s Astroworld tragedy, where 10 people were killed in a crowd surge during his headline set. He’s performed a handful of times since then, appearing at a pre-Oscars party in March and a Coachella afterparty in April, before delivering a public show at a Miami nightclub in May. Later that month, he performed at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.

Last week, Scott made a surprise appearance with Future at this year’s Rolling Loud Miami festival. The two performed ‘Hold That Heat’ together, before Scott did a medley of his own tracks including ‘Antidote’, ‘No Bystanders’ and ‘Goosebumps’. At the end of the set, they teamed up once more to perform ‘March Madness’.

Earlier this month, Scott opened for Meek Mill in Brooklyn, and momentarily stopped his set to address safety concerns. At one point in the show, some fans climbed up a lighting truss – this prompted Scott to stop the show and tell them to get down. In a statement shared after the performance, a representative for Scott said the rapper was “committed to doing his part to ensure events are as safe as possible”.

Next month, Scott will perform two headline shows at the O2 in London, which will mark his first headline shows since the Astroworld tragedy. Then, in November, he will headline Primavera Sound’s inaugural Brazil, Chile and Argentina editions.

Watch the trailer for Lil Baby’s new documentary, ‘Untrapped’

Lil Baby has shared the trailer for his new documentary – Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby. Check it out below.

  • READ MORE: Lil Baby – “It’s not about the fame game – I’m more about real life”

The film charts the rapper’s rise from someone who never dreamed of rapping to his current status as a generation-defining rap artist. The film will arrive on Amazon Prime on August 26.

In the trailer, which is directed by Karam Gill, Drake can be seen praising the rapper. “Lil Baby has already cemented himself as a super important part of this generation,” Drake says in the clip. “He’s putting distance between himself and other people. He’ll just continue to evolve — this guy’s the truth.”

The clip explores Lil Baby’s rise to stardom, especially how the rapper embraced music after leaving prison. Part of the trailer sees Lil Baby reflecting on the US justice system too.
“After I got locked up again, my perspective changed,” Baby says in the clip. “America has a system in place, and it’s designed for us to fail. It’s a trap. I couldn’t go back to prison. I became an artist with something to say and people to stand for.”
Untrapped premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival – watch the trailer below:

Back in May, Drake appeared on stage during Lil Baby‘s set at a Montreal festival.

Lil Baby was performing in Canadal, when Drake joined him on stage to play their collaboration ‘Wants and Needs’.

As footage shows, Drake then remained on stage to play a number of tracks on his own including ‘Nonstop’, ‘Headlines’, ‘Girls Want Girls’, ‘Laugh Now Cry Later’ and more.

Lil Baby released ‘Dark Mode’ back in May, which followed on from three new singles in April: ‘Right On’ and ‘In A Minute’ on April 8, and ‘Frozen’ on April 29. Earlier this year, the rapper featured on two songs with Nicki Minaj – ‘Do We Have A Problem?’ and ‘Bussin’ – as well as Hylan Starr’s ‘Don’t Make Me Beg’ and Rob49’s ‘Vulture Island V2’.

He also dropped a remix of Ed Sheeran’s ‘2step’ earlier this year, with all royalties from the record being donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Watch Britney Spears sing a capella ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’

Britney Spears has shared a video of herself singing an a capella version of her hit single ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ – check it out below.

The video came after Britney secured a legal victory this week, with her father Jamie Spears ordered to give a deposition and answer questions about his alleged misconduct at the helm of the pop star’s now-terminated conservatorship.

“I haven’t shared my voice in an extremely long time … maybe too long,” Spears wrote on Instagram alongside the video of her singing the hit 1998 song.

The new version of the song features a number of different lyrics, including in the chorus, when she sings: “Give me a fucking sign.”

In the caption to the video, Spears revealed that she has wanted to record a new version of the song for the duration of her conservatorship, but “the team said no.”

She added: “I share this because I am aware of my love and passion to sing. And my own family made a fool of me … I’m not going to be a victim.”

A Los Angeles County judge ruled this week (July 13) that Jamie Spears must produce “all documents and communications” sought by his daughter related to his alleged “electronic surveillance” of the superstar – and that his daughter is not obligated to answer her dad’s dueling request for “further” document discovery from her.

It comes after Britney previously accused her father of paying a security team to track the locations of those close to her.

It’s alleged that Jamie paid almost $6million (£4.4m) from Britney’s estate to a security firm that obtained private phone records for the singer’s mother and others, as well as GPS “ping data” to track the locations of people close to the star.

Jamie was suspended from his role as his daughter’s conservator by a judge last September, with the conservatorship then being terminated completely in November after 13 years.

Tegan and Sara announce 10th album ‘Crybaby’ and share new single ‘Yellow’

Tegan and Sara have announced their 10th studio album ‘Crybaby’ – listen to new single ‘Yellow’ below.

The Canadian duo will release the follow-up to 2019’s ‘Hey, I’m Just Like You’ via Mom+Pop Music on October 21. It marks their first full-length project since signing to the New York indie label, which is also home to the likes of Courtney Barnett, Sleater-Kinney and Lucius.

Produced by John Congleton (Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, Future Islands), Sara Quin and Tegan Quin, the forthcoming ‘Crybaby’ was recorded at Studio Litho in Seattle and Sargent Recorders in Los Angeles.

“[‘Yellow’] was written after we began to take steps to heal the bruises we have both carried with us since adolescence and early adulthood – wounds that never quite healed right and flare up seasonally, sending us spiralling backward in time,” explained Sara.

“Are we doomed to remain forever 15, breaking up and breaking apart? I hope not.”

The Mark Myers-directed ‘Yellow’ video pays homage to the visuals for Coldplay‘s 2000 single of the same name, and sees Tegan and Sara walking along a beach à la Chris Martin. Tune in here:

“[It] was shot in Vancouver, a city that didn’t feel big enough to hold us both when we arrived here the first time,” Sara continued. “Twenty-two years later, we’re back, calling it home.”

As for ‘Crybaby’ on the whole, Tegan explained: “This was the first time where, while we were still drafting our demos, we were thinking about how the songs were going to work together.

“It wasn’t even just that Sara was making lyric changes or reorganizing the parts to my songs, it was that she was also saying to me, ‘This song is going to be faster’, or ‘It’s going to be in a different key’.”

She went on: “But Sara effectively improves everything of mine that she works on.” Sara added: “Maybe I am the renovator. I’m the house-flipper of the Tegan and Sara band.”

Tegan and Sara previewed the upcoming album with the single ‘Fucking Up What Matters’ in April. A full tracklist is yet to be revealed.

Listen to Baby Queen’s “liberating” new song ‘Nobody Really Cares’

Baby Queen has shared a brand new song – listen to ‘Nobody Really Cares’, a track about not pleasing others, below.

The track follows the singer’s recent track ‘Colours Of You’, which appeared on the soundtrack to Netflix show Heartstopper.

  • READ MORE: Baby Queen: “It’s important for pop music to be saying something right now”

“’Nobody Really Cares’ is about realising it’s okay to be yourself and do exactly what makes you happy because people are selfish in nature and only have so much space inside their brains reserved for you,” Baby Queen said of the new track in a statement.

She added: “I think it’s really liberating to know that nobody cares about your self expression as much as you sometimes think they do so filtering yourself to please them is pointless.”

Listen to ‘Nobody Really Cares’ below.

‘Nobody Really Cares’ and ‘Colours Of You’ are the artist’s first new music since the release of 2021’s “underdog’s anthem” ‘Wannabe’.

At a recent London show, the cast of Heartstopper joined Baby Queen on stage for her performance of ‘Colours Of You’.

“To be asked to be a part of a story as beautiful and culturally important as Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper was unbelievable, and still feels completely surreal,” Latham said about recording ‘Colours Of You’ when the song was released last week.

“‘Colours Of You’ is a song I wrote about one of the lead character’s journeys through the discovery and acceptance of his own sexuality. The song means a lot to me and is different to a lot of the music people have heard from me before, so I feel like I get to show a different side to myself as an artist and a writer,” she added.

Baby Queen is currently at the tail end of a support tour with Olivia Rodrigo. Check out the remaining dates below and get tickets here.

King Princess details release date for second album ‘Hold On Baby’

King Princess has shared more details on upcoming second album ‘Hold On Baby’ – check out its release date below.

  • READ MORE: King Princess: “When Harry Styles tweeted about me, it was a huge deal”

The follow-up to Mikaela Strauss’ 2019 debut album ‘Cheap Queen’ was announced earlier this year alongside new track ‘For My Friends’, which follows recent tracks ‘House Burn Down’ and ‘Pain’.

The album has now been confirmed to arrive on July 29, and will feature contributions from Mark Ronson, Ethan Gruska, Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, Tobias Jesso Jr and more.

“I want this album to give you all some strength in accepting ourselves; as chaotic as we can be,” Strauss said of the album. “It’s not easy being alive and I feel indebted to you all for providing me air to breathe in this insane world.

“That’s what King Princess has always been about at its core. Making a home for us to feel safe and weird and messy and imperfect. You are not alone in your feelings. I bet you I feel and have felt the same. This album is for anyone who needs a sanctuary to be vulnerable. I’m here with you, and I love you.”

Discussing the “legendary” album in a previous interview, Strauss said: “I think this new record just as overall is a lot more about me. There’s less love songs than I’ve ever written, which is crazy, but when there are moments of love, they’re not unrequited.”

“Like it’s about my relationship with Quinn (Wilson). It’s about kind of growing up, and my position in the industry. And feeling inadequacy and anger in a funny way. And that’s the thing that I do well, there’s always a sense of humour. Also, I was really focused on songwriting in a different way than I have in the past…This was all done sitting at pianos or guitars.”

Later this year, King Princess will support Florence + The Machine on a five-date Australian and New Zealand tour, taking their upcoming ‘Dance Fever’ album Down Under in the first quarter of 2023.

The dates will follow an expansive tour throughout North America for Florence Welch and co., with King Princess also supporting on select dates alongside Arlo Parks, Sam Fender, Yves Tumor, Japanese Breakfast and Wet Leg on select dates.

NCT Dream team up with ‘Baby Shark’ creator on English remix of ‘Glitch Mode’

NCT Dream have joined forces with ‘Baby Shark’ creator PinkFong on an English-language remix of their single ‘Glitch Mode’.

The K-pop boyband dropped the new ‘Glitch Mode’ remake on May 25 as a collaboration with the children’s entertainment company, which was previously behind the global children’s hit ‘Baby Shark’, alongside an animated sing-along music videos for the track.

The music video includes animated avatars of all seven members of the NCT sub-unit, who perform the song alongside PinkFong’s cartoon dinosaur mascot Red Rex. The remix features more upbeat, 8-bit-inspired beats beneath child-like vocals, with NCT Dream heard harmonising in the background.

The release of the English remix of ‘Glitch Mode’ marks the second time NCT Dream have released an English version of one of their songs with PinkFong so far – the first time being in May last year when the company also released a similar English remix of their song ‘Hot Sauce’.

The boyband have also released two original children’s songs with PinkFong over the last two years, the first being ‘Dinosaurs A To Z’ in May last year, later followed up by the song ‘Baby T-Rex’ earlier this month.

Meanwhile, NCT Dream are currently gearing up to drop ‘Beatbox’, a repackaged version of their second studio album ‘Glitch Mode’ and to be led by a title track of the same name. ‘Beatbox’ will see the addition of four new tracks to the album’s existing 11, and is due out on May 30 at 6pm KST.

The forthcoming album arrives nearly two months after the release of ‘Glitch Mode’ in March, which was given four stars in a review by NME’s Rhian Daly. That record had been the follow-up to last June’s ‘Hello Future’, which itself was a repackaged version of their May 2021 debut studio album ‘Hot Sauce’.

Krept of Krept & Konan announces new baby skincare range

Krept of UK rap duo Krept & Konan has launched a new baby skincare range.

  • READ MORE: Krept & Konan live: a super-charged celebration with an all-star guest list

Along with co-parent and health and beauty influencer Sasha Ellese Gilbert, Krept (real name Casyo Johnson) announced the launch of ‘Nala’s Baby’, a baby skincare range that’s described as having “99% naturally derived ingredients.” He’s he first rapper to launch such a product.

A statement described the products as “accessibly priced, naturally derived and inclusive” and will launch in over 400 Boots stores on June 20. The statement continued: “It is one of the first British made skincare range for babies to be sold on the high street with a perfect zero rating on Think Dirty, an app dedicated to finding harmful chemicals and risks in personal care products.”

Gilbert added: “Nala’s Baby has been a passion project since I fell pregnant with our daughter Nala…I wanted our baby to have access to naturally derived, safe and effective products and sadly finding this on the high-street was impossible. I began creating creams and lotions for Nala at home and saw how effective they were.

“With the help of a trusted manufacturer and their expert chemists, and dermatologists and paediatricians we have created a skincare range that puts naturalness at its heart and caters for all skin types and ages.”

Krept said of the product: “Sasha and I are delighted to finally bring to market our zero rated baby product by Think Dirty, something that all parents can take advantage of for their own babies and children. This was crucial for us as we, like many other parents, struggled to find the right products to use from birth for Nala’s skin.

“We wanted the range to be available to as many people and for as many skin types as possible, while bringing the magic to bath and bedtime for all families across the UK.”

The Montreal appearance is Drake’s second surprise guest slot of the month, having joined Dave onstage in his hometown of Toronto last week.

The south London rapper and musician performed at the History venue in Drake’s home city as part of his 2022 North American headline tour. Dave is out on the road in support of ‘We’re All Alone In This Together’, which came out last July.

Dave and Drake delivered a live rendition of their 2016 collaboration ‘Wanna Know’ as well as a joint version of Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ track ‘Knife Talk’.

Speaking to the audience, Drake hailed Dave as a “once-in-a-generation talent”. The latter artist appeared in season one of Top Boy – the hit show Drake brought back in 2019 following a six-year hiatus.

It was reported earlier this month that Drake has signed a huge new deal with Universal Music Group. He’s believed to be currently working on material in the studio.

TXT’s Soobin says he has a “love-hate relationship” with their song ‘Trust Fund Baby’

Tomorrow X Together (TXT) singer Soobin has described his complicated feeling for the ‘minisode 2: Thursday’s Child’ B-side track ‘Trust Fund Baby’.

  • READ MORE: Tomorrow X Together: “Our fans are always there by our side. That’s why they’re our heroes”

The K-pop idol recently sat with Weverse Magazine for an interview, where he discussed the production and recording process for the songs on the boyband’s latest mini-album. During the interview, Soobin singled out the B-side track ‘Trust Fund Baby’ as the most difficult one for him to record.

“‘Trust Fund Baby’ was the hardest song I’ve ever done,” he said. “When I sang the whole thing through, most of the parts were easy to get through, but I got stuck on the part that goes, ‘I can’t be a lover’, and felt like the part wasn’t for me but the part eventually went to me anyway.”

Despite the song being the most challenging for Soobin to record, he did note that he has since gotten better at vocalising the verses. “I have a love-hate relationship with the song since it was so tough for me. But now I’m good at performing it live and got a lot better,” he concluded.

In a separate interview, bandmate Beomgyu also told Weverse Magazine about similar challenges in recording songs off the new record, singling out title track ‘Good Boy Gone Bad’ in particular. “It felt like I was lagging behind the beat no matter how I tried to sing it,” the vocalist explained. “It took a long time to record it.”

“I felt like, ‘There’s no way Choi Beomgyu can follow along at this tempo with his low blood pressure,’” he added jokingly. “But over time, as my blood pressure rose back up, I rescued the recording.”

‘minisode 2: Thursday’s Child’, which dropped earlier this month, arrived nine months after the release of ‘The Chaos Chapter: Fight Or Escape’, a repackaged version of TXT’s sophomore studio album ’The Chaos Chapter: Freeze’, which was originally released in May 2021.

The couple first shared the news that they were expecting back in January, when photographs captured the pair together in Harlem, New York with the singer unveiling her baby bump.

Earlier this month (May 13)TMZ broke the news that the couple had welcomed a baby boy. Today (May 19) People confirmed the news, adding that Rihanna and A$AP were at home in Los Angeles with their first child.

In April, the singer discussed her pregnancy with Vogue, sharing “Planning? I wouldn’t say planning. But certainly not planning against it. I don’t know when I ovulate or any of that type of s–t. We just had fun,” she said. “And then it was just there on the test … Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning and our journey began.”

The Fenty fashion founder also discussed her approach to pregnancy style, adding, “I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women. My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”

Back in February, Rihanna promised fans that new music is still on the way, after she officially announced her pregnancy. Her most recent album was 2016’s ‘Anti’.

While she added that she is focused on “one thing at a time,” Rihanna clarified that music will still land at some point. “Yes, you’re still going to get music from me,” she said. But when the journalist suggested that the mum-to-be could include lullabies on her new album, she replied: “My fans would kill me if they waited this long for a lullaby.”

Meanwhile,A$AP recently released a video featuring Rihanna for his track, ‘D.M.B.’, which is an acronym for ‘Dat’s My Bitch’. The video is an ode to a classic love story, with the pair depicting ride-or-die characters in a devoted relationship despite their circumstances.

Biffy Clyro, CHVRCHES and Baby Keem added to Roskilde 2022 line-up

Biffy Clyro, CHVRCHES and Baby Keem are among the names that have been added to the line-up for Roskilde 2022.

The Danish festival returns from June 25-July 2 this year after both its 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.

A total of 68 new acts have been announced for Roskilde, taking the total number of artists in music, art and activism at the event to 290. Other names added to the line-up include Anitta, H.E.R., Jerry Cantrell and Shygirl.

“We continue our focus on new, exciting stars. It is important for us that our line-up is diverse – also geographically. With a name like Anitta, we now see that new stars from areas like Latin America can perform on the biggest stages in Europe,” said Roskilde Festival’s head of programme Anders Wahrén.

“I saw both Anitta and Baby Keem at Coachella this year and they were some of the best performing acts over there. Baby Keem stood all alone on stage and managed to captivate the audience without a lot of hype and equipment around him. I’m sure it is one of the concerts that will be really impressive this summer as well.”

A post shared by Roskilde Festival (@roskildefestival)

Discussing some of the up-and-coming artists that have been added to the line-up, Wahrén said: “The programme on the stages Countdown and Rising is a really important part of Roskilde Festival because this is where you will find the names who will perform on the big stages in the future.

“The many lockdowns over the past two years have made it virtually impossible for new artists to meet an audience, and therefore we have spent more time on booking the programme this year so that we are sure to include the latest trends. I think we have succeeded and the programme for the festival’s first days is incredibly varied this year.”

Dua Lipa and Tyler, the Creator were previously announced to headline this year’s edition. Other acts at the top of the bill include Post Malone, Haim and St. Vincent, The Smile, Jada, The Blaze and Thomas Helmig.

TLC, Kacey Musgraves, Little Simz, Ashnikko, Rae Sremmurd, Polo G, Jimmy Eat World, Turnstile, Zulu, Lorraine James, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Modest Mouse, Phoebe Bridgers and Sigrid are also on the line-up, as are Mitksi, Big Thief, Arlo Parks, Fontaines D.C., Kelly Lee Owens, Sky Ferriera, Fred Again and Moses Sumney.

Lil Baby previews new song ‘Dark Mode’ in Beats By Dre commercial with Ja Morant

Lil Baby has shared a tease of new music – a fiery, headstrong tune titled ‘Dark Mode’ in a new advert for Beats By Dre.

  • READ MORE: Lil Baby & Lil Durk – ‘The Voice Of The Heroes’ review: legends-in-the-making unite

The ad itself – helmed by the Baltimore creative outfit ILLIMITEWORLD – aired during Game 3 of the NBA playoffs yesterday (May 8). It stars Lil Baby and Memphis Grizzlies member Ja Morant in a montage of monochromatic, stylised shots. It acts like somewhat of a music video for ‘Dark Mode’, with the track itself seeing Lil Baby riff on his success and rapping prowess with an impressive string of basketball metaphors.

Over a bed of sharp beats built around soundbites of boots stoping and squeaking on a basketball court, he raps: “Twelve to twelve, I’m tryna bust a clock, the Ja Morant flow / I get in that zone, I get to callin’ it the dark mode / Love the fans so much, I hear ’em screamin’, ‘Pipe me up more’ / Call me what you want, but if you know, then call me young GOAT.”

Have a look at the ad below:

In a press statement shared with the ad’s release, Lil Baby described Morant as “one of [his] favourite players to watch”. “We’ve been locked in,” he said of his friendship with the basketballer. “This is not my first time partnering with Beats, but we took it up a notch with this original song. The world gets to experience ‘Dark Mode’ for the first time in a way that’s crazy.”

‘Dark Mode’ follows on from Lil Baby releasing three of his own singles last month: ‘Right On’ and ‘In A Minute’ on April 8, and ‘Frozen’ on April 29. Earlier this year, the rapper featured on two songs with Nicki Minaj – ‘Do We Have A Problem?’ and ‘Bussin’ – as well as Hylan Starr’s ‘Don’t Make Me Beg’ and Rob49’s ‘Vulture Island V2’.

Last month also saw Lil Baby drop a remix of Ed Sheeran’s ‘2step’, with all royalties from the record being donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

‘Dark Mode’ marks the second time in as many months that an artist has used a Beats By Dre ad to preview as-yet-unreleased new music. Last month saw Diddy preview a new single, which features The Weeknd, in a Beats ad starring college footballer Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Listen to HAAi team up with Jon Hopkins on new single ‘Baby, We’re Ascending’

HAAi has shared the title track from her forthcoming debut album – listen to the Jon Hopkins-featuring ‘Baby, We’re Ascending’ below.

The singer, producer and DJ – aka Teneil Throssell – will release her first studio effort on May 27 via Mute (pre-order here). She’s already dropped the songs ‘Purple Jelly Disc’ (feat. Obi Franky) and ‘Bodies Of Water’.

Speaking of her trance-y new team-up with Hopkins, HAAi explained: “This is a track I made with one of my dearest friends Jon Hopkins. I’d been working on this particular track alone for a while and got stuck with it – I posted a clip on my Instagram one morning and Jon messaged me asking what it was and could we work on it together.”

She continued: “It started to evolve after a few weeks and became something quite special and personal for us. Hope you enjoy listening as much as we did making it!”

You can listen to HAAi and Jon Hopkins’ ‘Baby, We’re Ascending’ here:

HAAi’s upcoming 13-track album also features Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip (on ‘Biggest Mood Ever’) as well as model and activist Kai-Isaiah Jamal (‘Human Sound’).

Speaking in a recent interview with NME, Throssell opened up about the experience of opening up her creative world to work with other artists for the first time.

“One of the main reasons I had never invited anyone in before was the fear of someone saying, ‘You’re not doing this yourself’,” she said.

“As a non-male artist, that happens more often, so I was like, if I’m doing everything from start to finish on my music, I can always back myself up. But I had to really get over that, take a bit more ownership but also give some of it up.”

Elsewhere in the chat, HAAi told NME that the process of putting together a full record had opened her eyes to what she’s able to achieve: “It’s taken so long for an album to exist, that now, having this body of work that I’m so proud of, that’s so reflective of me at its core, there’s a little bit more self-assuredness that I didn’t have before. It can be really hard to describe what you are [without that].”

DaBaby charged with felony battery for alleged attack on rental property owner

DaBaby has been charged with felony battery for an alleged attack on the owner of a rental property he was using to shoot a music video.

  • READ MORE: Wah! Here’s the top 10 ‘baby’ rappers, ranked

Gary Pagar claims he was physically assaulted when he tried to stop the rapper’s entourage from shooting the video on his Los Angeles property in December last year.

According to TMZ, the incident occurred when DaBaby (real name Jonathan Kirk) and his team were renting out a mansion managed by Pagar, who says he was told Kirk and his friends would only be using the property for vacation purposes.

Pagar has claimed that the rapper’s management team agreed to a 12-guest limit as outlined in the property’s rental agreement, but at one point during their week-long stay, Pagar said he noticed more than a dozen people were inside the house.

On December 2, Pagar said he stopped by the property and found in the region of 40 people on site, including a film crew who appeared to be shooting a music video for ‘Play U Lay’, a track by DaBaby’s artist Stunna4Vegas.

Pagar then claims that after he approached Kirk to try and shut down the shoot, someone in the rapper’s crew attacked the property owner. Although Kirk allegedly ordered the crew member to stop, Pagar alleges that Kirk then punched him in the face, knocking out a tooth.

Pagar filed a lawsuit against Kirk in February, which claims that he suffered serious injuries from the attack. Another member of the rapper’s team, Thankgod Awute, has also been charged with felony robbery.

DaBaby took to Twitter to respond to Pagar’s claims, writing: “Y’all keep beliving [sic] these type of people & helping em assassinate my character y’all might as well get a rope & help him hang my black ass on a tree.”

This is the latest in a long line of legal woes the rapper has been involved in over the last year.

Last week, Rolling Stone obtained security footage of a 2018 incident where Kirk shot and killed a man named Jaylin Craig at a Charlotte-area Walmart, which the rapper has consistently claimed was in self-defence.

The newly published security footage shows the lead-up to the shooting and its aftermath and appears to potentially contradict the rapper’s version of events.

He was then involved in another violent altercation last month, this time between himself and Charlotte rapper Wisdom, a recent signee to Kirk’s Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment roster.

That same month, a shooting took place at DaBaby’s home in North Carolina, leaving one person injured. While the shooter and the victim have not been named, a spokesperson from the Troutman Police Department said it was an “isolated incident” and that there was no further threat to the community.

In February, the brother of singer/rapper DaniLeigh sued DaBaby over an alleged unprovoked physical attack on him at a bowling alley in Los Angeles.

Towards the end of the song, she told the crowd: “I’ve got some friends here tonight that are going to help me sing this last chorus. You might recognise them…you’ve seen Heartstopper on Netflix, right?”

Both Joe Locke (who plays Charlie Spring) and Sebastian Croft (Ben Hope) took to the stage alongside, Kizzy Edgell (Darcy Olsson), Corinna Brown (Tara Jones), Yasmin Finney (Elle Argent), Jenny Walser (Tori Soring) and Tobie Donovan (Isaac Henderson).

Speaking about the show on social media, Latham wrote: “This story is so important. I wish I’d been able to watch a show like this when I was younger, because it would have made a difference to the way I looked at myself and my own sexuality. But I am so happy that it exists now.”

Baby Queen has released new single ‘Colours Of You’ taken from the official soundtrack to Netflix’s Heartstopper – check it out below.

  • READ MORE: Baby Queen: “It’s important for pop music to be saying something right now”

The dreamy pop track is the first new material from Baby Queen since the release of 2021’s “underdog’s anthem” ‘Wannabe’.

The song was written specifically for Netflix’s coming-of-age teen romance series Heartstopper.

“To be asked to be a part of a story as beautiful and culturally important as Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper was unbelievable, and still feels completely surreal,” said Baby Queen (real name Bella Latham) in a statement.

Listen to ‘Colours Of You’ below.

Speaking about the show on social media, Latham wrote: “This story is so important. I wish I’d been able to watch a show like this when I was younger, because it would have made a difference to the way I looked at myself and my own sexuality. But I am so happy that it exists now.”

Kendrick Lamar joins Baby Keem for pair of songs at Coachella 2022

Kendrick Lamar made a surprise appearance during Baby Keem‘s Coachella 2022 performance last night (April 22) – see the footage below.

Lamar, who recently announced the release of his fifth studio album, ‘Mr Morale & The Big Steppers’, joined his cousin on the Sahaha stage for ‘Family Ties’ and ‘Vent’, the final two songs of his set. It was Keem’s second consecutive weekend performing at the festival.

“Oh shit!” Keem shouted as Lamar made his way to the stage. The Compton rapper then proceeded to perform his rapid-fire verse from ‘Family Ties’ in front of a large video screen of fire and water scenes. The pair closed the set with the live debut of their collaborative track ‘Vent’. Both tracks are taken from Keem’s debut album, ‘The Melodic Blue’.

You can check out footage from Keem’s Coachella set below:

Baby Keem played:

‘trademark usa’
‘hooligan’
‘scapegoats’
‘HONEST’
‘ORANGE SODA’
‘booman’
‘issues’
‘range brothers’
’16’
‘Praise God’
‘family ties’ (with Kendrick Lamar)
‘vent’ (with Kendrick Lamar)

Elsewhere on Friday at Coachella, Harry Styles brought out Lizzo as a special guest during his headline set.

Towards the end of his main set, Styles surprised the crowd by welcoming Lizzo to the stage to cover Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 disco anthem ‘I Will Survive’. The pair strutted down the runway in flamboyant matching coats, belting out the tune as they went.

Styles and Lizzo then sang a joint rendition of One Direction’s 2011 hit single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’.

Lamar is set to headline Glastonbury 2022 in June, sharing the stage with fellow headliners Paul McCartney and Billie Eilish.

Lamar has also shared details of a new summer headline show in Milan, Italy, which was announced following his performance at this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Listen to The Lathums soaring new single, ‘Sad Face Baby’

The Lathums have today (April 15) shared a soaring new single called ‘Sad Face Baby’ – check it out below.

  • READ MORE: The Lathums live in Manchester: the latest landmark in an incredible year

Performed for the first time last summer, the track is the first new music release for the band this year and features the work of their new producer, Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club).

Reflecting on ‘Sad Face Baby’ and the last two years of the band, frontman Alex Moore said: “The Lathums has been a world of opportunity for us, but things still get to you.

“We have had to come to understand each other more and the ways the world works around us. Naivety and innocence have been lost and ‘Sad Face Baby’ is the sharper edge of what we can do as a band.”

The band are about to begin a short headline spring tour ahead of a long run of dates that will see them support The Killers on their European arena tour, as well as performing at festivals including TRNSMT, Neighbourhood, Reading and Leeds and Boardmasters.

Check out the dates of their tour below and buy tickets here.

APRIL
23 – Galway, Ireland, Roisin Dubh

24 – Limerick, Ireland, Dolans
25 – Dublin, Ireland, The Academy
27 – Belfast, Limelight 1
30 – Liverpool, Sound City

Reviewing their debut album, NME said: “While the initial rise of The Lathums has already drawn comparisons with the Arctic Monkeys, this record is very much steeped in the jangly sound of The Smiths and The Housemartins: jaunty guitars and anthems with swelling festival crowds in mind.

“…Yet while The Lathums may crib from their working class heroes, they don’t solely rely on them. Defiant standout track ‘Fight On’ – which has become a staple anthem in their live set – shows the strength of Moore’s own ability to write a tune. The element of personal loss that runs through the heartbreaking ‘I’ll Never Forget The Time I Spent With You’ and ska-spitting ‘I See Your Ghost’ shows Moore has his own trauma to tell, even if he is doing so reluctantly.”

Brian May pays tribute to Buddy Holly with cover of ‘Maybe Baby’

Brian May has shared a cover of Buddy Holly‘s rock ‘n’ roll classic ‘Maybe Baby’.

  • READ MORE: ‘Queen days’: Brian May reflects on his rock ‘n’ roll journey

May’s reworking of the 1958 track is taken from the forthcoming deluxe reissue of his second solo album, 1998’s ‘Another World’, due to arrive on April 22.

“I’ve never done a Buddy Holly song,” the Queen guitarist said in a statement. Explaining how the song played in his development as a musician, he said: “That song more than probably any other, is the reason that I’m here doing this, playing guitar and being a rock star and being a very fortunate person.

“I heard Buddy Holly make that incredible sound on his guitar, that clang, singing that beautiful song, hearing those wonderful harmonies of the Crickets. And it completely motivated me.

“I just thought, ‘That’s what I want to do. I want to be able to make music that does that to people, makes them feel this kind of yearning, makes them feel this joy and passion.'”

May’s version of ‘Maybe Baby’ comes alongside an eye-catching video that features an array of colourful, fan-created images of the guitar hero from throughout his career. You can watch it below.

The reissue of ‘Another World’ is the second release in May’s Gold Series. It contains the remastered original album alongside ‘Another Disc’, which features a wealth of previously unreleased remixes, rarities, live tracks and cover versions.

In addition to ‘Maybe Baby,’ the ‘Another Disc’ bonus hears May rework two other classic tracks from his youth: The Shadows‘ 1961 instrumental ‘F.B.I.’ and Conway Twitty’s 1958 song ‘It’s Only Make Believe.’

Meanwhile, May made his acting debut earlier this year in “anti-bullying” CBBC kids TV show, Andy And The Band.

According to May, he was offered the chance to star in the children’s TV show as the Godfather of Rock, but initially turned them down.

However, he changed his mind after reading the script. “It was very moving because it’s a great story, it’s such a lovely look into what happens to kids and how they lose their confidence and what can be done,” May told the PA news agency.

Babymetal tease new chapter with trailer for ‘The Other One’

Babymetal have released a trailer which appears to tease the next chapter of their career.

  • READ MORE: Babymetal interview: ‘Metal Galaxy’ is the first step to the future of metal…”

Last year, the band celebrated celebrated their 10-year anniversary, announcing in August 2021 that they would “disappear from our sight” later in the year.

“Sunday, October 10, 2021… Together with all 10 episodes of METAL RESISTANCE coming to a close, the 10-year legend will be sealed from the world,” they wrote on Instagram. “Until that seal is broken, BABYMETAL will disappear from our sight. Time is running out. There is no eternity in God’s descent.”

The newly released trailer, which they shared on Twitter, features text over some fuzzy, futuristic visuals, with atmospheric music playing in the background. “On Oct. 10, 2021, a decade after BABYMETAL descended upon this earth, their 10-year-old legend was sealed from the world,” the text reads.

“Fossilized metal spirits left the dystopian world where chaos still continues and are still in the midst of traveling the Metal Galaxy. However, with the advent of the virtual world METALVERSE, a new chapter is about to begin.

“Through the METALVERSE, a restoration project called THE OTHER ONE will reveal a side of Babymetal we never knew existed.”

The clip ends with a robotic voice message that says: “This is the ‘other’ story of BABYMETAL.”

The group’s 10-year anniversary celebrations included a ‘best of’ compilation album and a run of 10 live shows at Tokyo’s Budokan Arena, which took place between January and April 2021.

Upon the shows being announced towards the end of 2020, Babymetal’s Moametal told Billboard Japan: “I consider the Budokan shows as the period we properly display everything we’ve gained in our journey over the past ten years, and our gratitude to everyone who encountered us along the way.”

In 2020, there were two live releases, titled ‘Legend – Metal Galaxy [Day-1]’ and ‘[Day-2]’, recorded during the touring cycle for Babymetal’s 2019 album ‘Metal Galaxy’.

In a three-star review of the group’s most recent studio effort, NME wrote: “Metal Galaxy’ is a wild ride that, through its sheer energy, is somehow infectiously accessible […] Scoff if you will – or just enjoy the shamelessly unpredictable and giddy joy that lay within this record.”

Slaves’ Isaac Holman announces debut album for solo project Baby Dave and shares new single ’29’

Slaves drummer Isaac Holman has announced details of his debut solo album, which will be released under the name Baby Dave.

  • READ MORE: Slaves’ Laurie Vincent and producer Jolyon Thomas on their soft, melancholy new project LARRY PINK THE HUMAN

‘Monkey Brain’ will be self-released on April 22, and features instrumental and production contributions from Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn as well new single ’29’.

It follows the project’s first single ‘Too Shy For Tennis’, which was released last summer and was also assisted by Albarn.

’29’ was written when Holman challenged himself to compose a track during an uneventful coach journey. You can hear the lo-fi electronic track, along with an appropriately bus-themed video below.

“There really isn’t much of a story behind this tune, but that’s kind of the whole point,” Holman said. “It’s about an uneventful bus journey from Brighton to Tunbridge Wells with my mate Lucy. I had my laptop with me and I decided to challenge myself to make a tune on the journey. This is that tune, about that journey.”

The musician described the album as “a collection of tunes written from shortly after a debilitating mental breakdown at the start of 2019, up until now. Around half of the tunes on the record [were] co-produced by Damon Albarn who also plays various instruments throughout.

“I don’t know where this project would be if it wasn’t for him and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and observe his wizardry. It was a proper game changer for me. Thank you for your patience, it shouldn’t have taken this long but ongoing issues with my mental health have made putting this record together incredibly challenging. Here we are though, we got there in the end. Can’t wait for you lot to hear it.”

Following Slaves’ hiatus, Holman’s bandmate Laurie Vincent has also embarked on a career as LARRY PINK THE HUMAN, a duo completed by producer Jolyon Thomas. They released a string of singles and the half-hour ‘M1XTAPE’ last year.

Rapper Baby Cino has been shot dead moments after leaving jail

Rapper Baby Cino has died aged 20, moments after he was released from a Miami jail.

The musician, real name Timothy Starks, was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre earlier this week (March 16). He’d been arrested on a gun charge earlier in the week.

As reported in The Miami Herald, Starks was picked up in a car upon his release from jail. Moments later, a shooter in another car took aim at the car Starks was travelling in.

According to reports, the gunman fired at least 40 shots at the car. Starks’ car then hit a wall as it was travelling on the Palmetto Expressway. He reportedly suffered several gunshot wounds, including one to the head.

The Miami Herald also report that Starks’ friend, who was in the car with him, was treated at a local hospital after also being shot. Dante’ Collins Banks, 20, has since been released from hospital.

Speaking to WSVN, Starks’ mother said she was on the phone to him when the shooting began.

“My son was OK. He was talking. He was just shook up because his friend got shot,” she said, adding that Banks has since been released from hospital.

Detectives from the Miami-Dade police department told the Herald that “a dark-coloured vehicle was seen fleeing the area at a high rate of speed”.

They also told the paper they are investigating whether the shooting is connected to previous incidents in recent months, including “a series of public ambushes in recent months believed connected to Miami street gangs.”

Corrections spokesman Juan Diasgranados said: “Miami-Dade Police is handling the investigation and the surrounding circumstances regarding this incident.”

The accompanying video, directed by Zain Alexander Shammas, sees the rapper in Malibu, going through the highs and lows of a relationship. The sun-tinged video features VHS clips of intimate moments, plus a cameo from the rapper’s current girlfriend, Chicken Shop Date’s Amelia Dimoldenberg.

Aitch, who presented the award for Best Solo Act In The World with Big Zuu to Burna Boy at the BandLab NME Awards 2022 spoke to NME on the red carpet about the single.

“I think everyone’s gonna love it,” he said of the track. “It’s a little meaningful one, a little love song for all the people who need that right now.

“It was inspired by a lot of things, like other people’s relationships around me, my past relationships. When you hear it, you’ll get it: it happens all the time, you’ll understand when you hear it.”

He also confirmed that his upcoming debut album would likely drop in June, before a summer of festivals and tour in Australia and New Zealand with UK and European dates to follow.

“It’s basically finished to be fair,” he said. “I’m just ready for the roll-out now. I’m putting some singles out and it’s time to go.”

Aitch previously offered Liam Gallagher £7million to appear on his record. He also reiterated his plans to NME on the red carpet of the BRIT Awards 2022, where he spoke of his plans to meet Gallagher at the ceremony and talk him into a collaboration.

In 2021, Aitch released ‘Learning Curve’, ‘GSD’ and ‘Party Round My Place’, the latter featuring Avelino and Toddla T.

The rapper’s last full release came in May 2020 with his ‘Polaris’ EP, which featured AJ Tracey collaboration ‘Rain’ and production from Kenny Beats on the songs ‘Safe To Say’ and ‘Zombie’.

The singer was originally set to appear with Caroline Polachek and Christine And The Queens on the long-running show last December, but her appearance was cancelled at the last minute due to COVID restrictions leading to “limited crew,” leaving her “devastated and heartbroken”.

On last night’s episode, hosted by Oscar Isaac, Charli performed versions of two songs from her forthcoming album ‘Crash’, which is set to come out later this month (March 18).

Watch the pair of performances below:

After the recent release of ‘Baby’, Charli responded to critics of her new single, saying in a series of tweets that she’s unaffected by negative comments and is “living my best life”.

One fan called her “mother”, to which she said: “If u wanna throw around midlife crisis fucking throw it at me. I’m getting older, I’m getting hotter, my tits are stunning, I’m in great shape, I’m dancing, I’m progressing and I’m living my best life – and that the tea.”

The fan in question had written: “These charli singles so far…. not doing it for me whatsoever, but she’s still in my mother list.” Later, the fan clarified that she meant “mother” as an endearing term: “when i called u mother i meant ur like a SUPREME, not old i promise.”

Charli also wrote: “Again – not bothered that some people will always have their preferred eras etc (that’s why it’s fun being an angel – there’s so much variety) – but if you don’t think baby is a bop then… idk that’s just v suspicious to me…”

Elsewhere, Charli also confirmed that she backed out of performing at an NFT festival due to backlash from her fans about its exclusivity.

The pop singer said in a new interview that fans gave her a “lot of flack” over her decision to play Afterparty, an event taking place in Las Vegas later this month with headlining sets from the Chainsmokers and The Kid LAROI.

But only those who own a Utopian NFT, can fund their own Utopian NFT or were invited by the owner of a Utopian NFT could attend the event. Some Charli XCX fans questioned her move to play an NFT event, saying the community is “negative” and “rife with plagiarism”.

“I pulled out of the festival. That was my decision that I made and I didn’t feel the need to announce it or let them know or whatever — but I did pull out,” Charli told Rolling Stone UK.

Last week (February 26) on SNL, LCD Soundsystem were the musical guests, performing old songs ‘Thrills’ and ‘Yr City’s A Sucker’ and becoming guardian angels for a sketch.

Police investigating DaBaby after brawl with ex-girlfriend’s brother in bowling alley

Police are allegedly investigating DaBaby following a brawl with his ex-girlfriend’s brother in a bowling alley.

On Thursday night (February 10) DaBaby reportedly got in an argument with Brandon Bills and, it’s claimed, threw the first punch before a number of his associates got involved in the fight. Bills, brother to the mother of DaBaby’s daughter, DaniLeigh, refused medical treatment.

According to TMZ, DaBaby was thought to have left before the police arrived, but law enforcement sources say they’re investigating him for assault with a deadly weapon because he’s thought to have kicked Bills in the head while he was already on the ground.

Apparently DaBaby has also been banned from the bowling alley in Topanga, California.

After footage of the scrap went viral on social media, DaniLeigh took to Instagram Stories to call the fight “lame as hell”.

“Running up on my brother on some slippery ass floors with 5/6 of ya boys while he’s by himself and not even touching him!!! Lame and soooo sad!!!!” she wrote. “I pray this stops now !!! Bc this is my family! And I got a daughter to raise.”

Bills also took in Instagram to write: “If I had only 1 homie that night, everything would’ve been different. Not 1 person came to help me out.” DaBaby hasn’t commented on the incident.

Last year, DaBaby and DaniLeigh got into an altercation while on a livestream. DaBaby then called the police to remove his baby’s mother from his home following the disagreement, with DaniLeigh being charged with two counts of misdemeanour assault.

According to a lengthy statement shared by DaBaby after the argument was broadcast, he explained that he called the police to “swiftly remove myself from any of the ‘hostile’ behaviour put on display moments ago”.

According to a statement shared by DaniLeigh, she and DaBaby had been living together for the past three months, since their daughter was born, but “tonight he wanna come into the room talking ‘bout ‘I need to go’. Don’t matter where. I’m sorry to my baby that her father is kicking her out [of] her home at three months.”

Nicki Minaj’s new Lil Baby collaborations are the former’s first new material since her 2021 mixtape, ‘Beam Me Up Scotty’.

Earlier this month (February 4) Minaj explained that she would continue to make music for as long as she wants, with her plan to only quit the industry on her own terms and when she feels it is right for her to do so.

During an Instagram Live session with Jayda Cheaves to celebrate the release of her first single of the year, the rapper promised to always “keep on putting out music”. “I will never leave the game until I wanna leave it,” she said.

Minaj and Lil Baby have now released ‘Do We Have A Problem?’, marking Minaj’s first new music release of 2022.

A Benny Boom-directed video for the song, which stars Minaj, Lil Baby, Joseph Sikora and Cory Hardrict, has also been released, centring around a high-octane bank heist – you can see that below.

‘Do We Have A Problem?’ follows on from ‘Boyz’, Minaj’s collaboration with the former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson which came out last October.

Minaj’s last studio album, ‘Queen’, was released in August 2018. Her 2009 mixtape ‘Beam Me Up Scotty’ was reissued last year. Lil Baby, meanwhile, released ‘The Voice Of The Heroes’ LP with Lil Durk back in June.

Earlier this week Minaj spoke about ‘New Body’, her unreleased collaboration with Kanye West.

The track was originally recorded for West‘s scrapped ‘Yandhi’ album, but a reworked version didn’t make the cut on his ninth studio album ‘Jesus Is King’.

“The public adored ‘New Body.’ Like, ‘New Body’ was the biggest hit record that never came out,” Minaj told Hot 106.

“I think the ship has sailed for ‘New Body’ because everybody has come to love the original way they heard it so I’ll just let everybody have that in their hearts. It is what it is.”

Babyface Ray shares collaboration with Pusha T from new album ‘Face’

Babyface Ray has announced a new album titled ‘Face’ with the release of lead single ‘Dancing With The Devil’, featuring Pusha T.

Its chorus is also delivered by rapper Landstrip Chip, who lends weight to Babyface Ray and Pusha T’s verses about building – and severing – relationships with people who turn out to be harmful or dangerous.

The music video for ‘Dancing With The Devil’ also sees the three artists performing in the pews of a church, with Pusha T delivering his verses in a confessional booth. The Detroit rapper is also seen robbing a house at night, later facing its deadly consequences.

‘Face’ is scheduled to arrive on January 28 via Wavy Gang/EMPIRE. Watch the clip for ‘Dancing With The Devil’ below.

‘Dancing With The Devil’ marks the latest effort by Babyface Ray after his 2021 EP ‘Unfuckwitable’. It is also his first full-length record since his 2019 mixtape ‘MIA Season 2’.

‘Unfuckwitable’ was later reissued as a deluxe edition album with a remix of his 2020 track ‘Paperwork Party’ with Jack Harlow. Ray was then featured as the opening act for Harlow’s Crème de la Crème concert tour last year.

Last August, Ray issued the single ‘It Ain’t My Fault’, which featured a guest spot by Big Sean and production by Hit-Boy.

LadBaby hit out at The Kunts in festive chart battle

LadBaby have criticised The Kunts for their attempt to score a Christmas Number One with their single ‘Boris Johnson Is STILL A Fucking C**t’.

  • READ MORE: Here’s why I want to see The Kunts’ Boris-bashing anthem vying for Christmas Number One

Speaking to the Official Charts, LadBaby’s Mark Hoyle said: “Definitely – it takes a certain sort of person to download a song with that in the title, but you never know.

“There’s definitely an element that people aren’t happy with this government, but our song is for charity – I don’t believe theirs is – and ours is trying to raise more money than ever for food banks. It’s something that is even more important given everything that is going on.”

He added: “Every year we say this will be the last time, but we keep coming back because the situation keeps getting worse. 7,000 food parcels are handed out every day this Christmas – that shouldn’t be happening in the UK.”

The YouTubers are going for their fourth consecutive Christmas Number One with ‘Sausage Rolls For Everyone’, which features Elton John and Ed Sheeran, who are similarly in the running with their own collab ‘Merry Christmas’. All proceeds from LadBaby’s single go to The Trussell Trust.

In response to Hoyle’s comment, The Kunts singer Kunt said (via Clash): “You’re all my sort of people. When you have someone in charge like Boris Johnson who lies, cheats and turns a blind eye to corruption, I think it is perfectly within our rights to express our dissatisfaction in any way we choose to do, while we still can. That’s nothing to be ashamed of, if anything we should be proud that we are prepared to stand up for what is right.”

“There’s definitely a bigger buzz already than at this point last year, but we are a few troublemakers chivvying people along on social media, compared to the massive major label publicity machine behind Sheeran, Elton and LadBaby – so whether we get there will be purely down to whether enough people find out about it in time, and also whether people really believe that together we can all make a difference,” The Kunts’ frontman told NME recently.

Asked what it would mean to him to get the Christmas Number One, Kunt said: “It would mean everything. Not just personally but the idea of it being written into the history books that at Christmas 2021 collectively we all stood up and said, ‘We deserve better than this’.”

Listen to LadBaby’s new Christmas song featuring Elton John and Ed Sheeran

LadBaby’s Christmas single featuring Elton John and Ed Sheeran is out today – listen to ‘Sausage Rolls For Everyone’ below.

The novelty duo – comprised of YouTuber Mark Hoyle and his wife Roxanne – have topped the festive charts on three consecutive years with ‘We Built This City’ (2018), ‘I Love Sausage Rolls’ (2019) and ‘Don’t Stop Me Eatin’’ (2020).

All profits from this year’s song will go towards the Trussell Trust’s mission to support those in poverty and hunger.

Speaking about the song’s new video, the husband and wife duo said: “Trying to keep this video under wraps was so hard, so when you see us bundling Ed and Elton into the studio dressed as sausage rolls, that was a genuine ploy to try and keep everything secret!  We had so much fun making this video, Ed and Elton were great sports.”

“But behind the hilarity, the reason for making the track is to raise as much money as we possibly can for the Trussell Trust. Please do not assume that just because we’ve convinced some big music industry names to help sing on the track that we will hit #1 without your help.

“We need everyone to download the track and help us try and make history! We have to do whatever it takes to build a future where all of us can afford to go to sleep with a full stomach.”

Watch it here:

Speaking about the collaboration, John said: ”LadBaby are just the nicest people in the world, and they raise so much money each and every year for The Trussell Trust. It’s really important that people download and stream this record so that people who need the support can have a meal this Christmas.”

“We’re coming together to make a difference this Christmas,” John explained, “and raise as much money as possible for people in the United Kingdom that need it most.”

Sheeran added: “I’m proud to be supporting and featuring on LadBaby’s very fun rework of Merry Christmas. All profits will be donated to The Trussell Trust which is a very wonderful and important charity, so make sure you stream it, buy it and play it on repeat”.

Emma Revie, Chief Executive Officer at the Trussell Trust said: “Everyone in the UK should be able to afford the essentials – to buy their own food and heat their homes. Yet food banks in our network continue to see more and people being pushed deeper into poverty as they face giving out 7,000 food parcels a day this December.

“This is not right. But we know if we come together to push for change, we can ensure that nobody needs to turn to charity to feed their family. That’s why we are so grateful to LadBaby for their incredible support for a fourth year running.”

Elton John joked about going head-to-head with LadBaby for Christmas Number 1 during an interview with NME in October.

“We’ve got the sausage roll man to deal with, haven’t we? We’ve got LadBaby to deal with!” he said of his and Sheeran’s plans to release a festive collaboration.

“Once we bump him off, we might have a clear path to a hit record. He seems to have the monopoly on Christmas records. And good for him!”

Rolling Loud California crowd filmed throwing objects at DaBaby during his performance

DaBaby had objects thrown at him during his recent 2021 Rolling Loud California performance.

Videos circulating on social media show various objects and bits of rubbish being thrown at the rapper during his set on December 12, the final day of the music festival. The crowd expected to see Future on stage, who had been listed on the festival’s set schedule. But when DaBaby appeared instead, there was a largely negative reaction.

According to XXL, Future was scheduled for the Ciroc stage, with DaBaby performing on the Power 106 stage but this was switched up by the organisers of the festival without the audience knowing.

Future, meanwhile, brought out Kanye West for a surprise appearance during his set at Rolling Loud. He performed four of his own tracks, starting with ‘Graduation’ highlight ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing’.

DaBaby has made headlines recently, receiving criticism following reports that he hadn’t made any financial donations to three HIV/AIDS organisations he met over summer.

The rapper took a meeting with HIV/AIDS advocacy groups a month after he was filmed making homophobic comments on stage at the festival Rolling Loud in Miami. His remarks were roundly criticised by fellow artists, including Elton John and Madonna, and lost him several high-profile festival slots.

DaBaby’s set at Rolling Loud was part of his first run of shows since his homophobic comments.

The rapper’s US dates are being hosted by the festival, who in a statement to NME, said: “Rolling Loud supports second chances and we believe DaBaby has grown and learned from his experience. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to DaBaby’s fans seeing him live.”

DaBaby has Las Vegas battery case dismissed, ordered to pay restitution to accuser

A misdemeanour battery case against DaBaby has reportedly been dismissed by a Las Vegas court.

The rapper, real name Jonathan Kirk, was charged after an incident that reportedly happened last November, where it’s alleged he struck a driver midway through a ride. When reports emerged in February, law enforcement sources claimed to TMZ that Kirk punched the driver in the back of the head after being asked for payment; it was also alleged that Kirk and his entourage were verbally abusive and attempted to smoke a joint in the vehicle.

At the time, Kirk’s attorney Drew Findling hit back at the reports, calling the allegation “a 100 per cent false accusation which suspiciously pops up in February regarding an alleged incident in November. We can smell another attempted money grab.”

Nevertheless, Kirk was charged for the alleged incident, and – per a statement from his lawyers, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld was reportedly “prepared to fight the case at trial”, Rolling Stone reports.

However, the case against him was dismissed on December 1, with Kirk instead being ordered to pay his accuser, Timothy Cobb, a restitution fee of $7,500.

According to a new report from TMZ, representatives for the Clark County District Attorney’s Office said Kirk had his case dismissed because he “satisfied everything prosecutors asked him to do in order to resolve the case, including paying the alleged victim $7,500 and staying out of trouble”.

The case has reportedly been dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.

Last month, Kirk was involved in a separate matter with police, when he called them to remove his baby’s mother from his home. The incident occurred when he got into an argument with singer and rapper DaniLeigh – the mother of his youngest child – that was streamed on Instagram Live.

Just last week, it was reported that Kirk hadn’t made any financial donations to the HIV/AIDS organisations he met over the summer.

In a report by the Daily Beast, three organisations – the Black AIDS Institute, The Normal Anomaly Initiative and Positive Women’s Network – claimed they had had no contact nor financial support from DaBaby following their off-the-record meeting with him in August, in which the rapper apologised for his comments.

Kirk is currently on tour across the US, marking his first run of shows since his homophobic comments at Rolling Loud. The tour is being hosted by the festival, who in a statement to NME, said: “Rolling Loud supports second chances and we believe DaBaby has grown and learned from his experience. Noname cancels upcoming album ‘Factory Baby’

Noname has cancelled the release of her highly-anticipated second album ‘Factory Baby’.

  • READ MORE: Forget the beef with J. Cole – here’s why Noname is such an essential voice

The Chicago rapper made an initial announcement about the new album and its lead single ‘Rainforest’ earlier this year. The song, which sees her rap about racism and classism in America, is produced by The Kount and features vocals from frequent collaborator Adam Ness.

She confirmed that fans could expect ‘Factory Baby’ at some point in 2021, with an exact release date to be revealed. But yesterday (December 5), Noname took to her Instagram to explain why the new album would no longer be on the horizon.

“Most days I’m not sure if I’ll ever make music again,” she said on her Instagram Story, as reported by HotNewHipHop. “The last time I was consistently making songs was four years ago. It’s been so hard to find producers to link up with and who I genuinely connect with sonically. I’m truly grateful for the art I was able to release but that might be it from me.”

She continued: “Like, it shouldn’t be this hard. No lie this sh*t actually makes me incredibly sad and I rarely leave the crib these days. I don’t want to keep lying and saying there’s an album on the way when there’s not. I’m sorry I’ve lead y’all on. I wanted to believe things would change but they haven’t.”

‘Factory Baby’ would have been the follow-up to 2018’s ‘Room 25’. In a five-star review of the album, NME‘s El Hunt wrote, “‘Room 25’ is not only smartly constructed and laced with intricate subtlety – it’s laugh-out-loud funny, too.”

‘Rainforest’ marked the first new song from Noname since ‘Song 33’ last year, which was written in response to apparent criticism she received from J. Cole in his song ‘Snow On The Bluff‘.

She later apologised, writing on social media that she regretted writing and releasing the song. “I tried to use it as a moment to draw attention back to the issues i care about but i didn’t have to respond,” she said.

“My ego got the best of me. i apologize for any further distraction this caused.”

HIV/AIDs organisations say DaBaby “ghosted” them and has not donated any money

DaBaby has received criticism following reports that the rapper hasn’t made any financial donations to three HIV/AIDS organisations he met over summer.

According to a report in The Daily Beast, three organisations – Black AIDS Institute, The Normal Anomaly Initiative and Positive Women’s Network – have said that there have been no updates following their off-the-record meeting in August. The meet-up was scheduled after DaBaby faced backlash over comments made during his appearance at Rolling Loud Miami.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two or three weeks, put your cellphone light up,” the rapper can be heard saying in footage from the set shared on social media.

“Ladies, if your pussy smell like water, put your cellphone light up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up.”

After attempting and failing to defend himself on social media, DaBaby was dropped from a host of summer music festivals, including Manchester’s Parklife and Lollapalooza. He lost his headline Lollapalooza slot after failing to deliver a promised video apology for his recent comments. He had initially offered an apology on his Instagram, which has since been deleted.

Eleven organisations in HIV/AIDS prevention, education and treatment then penned an open letter to DaBaby requesting a private meeting to address his controversial comments. Though speaking with the organisations in what was described as a productive meet-up, several have now claimed that the rapper hasn’t followed through or reached out further.

“We have not received any outreach, partnership, or funding from DaBaby,” Pavni Guharoy, a communications consultant for the Black AIDS Institute, wrote in an email. “The onus is now on him, if he chooses to convert his misinformation into allyship by supporting the work of the Black AIDS Institute and other people of color-led HIV organizations.”

Venita Ray, PWN’s Co-Executive Director added: “We felt that the original meeting was very positive and while we have not partnered with DaBaby on any activities beyond that, we welcome opportunities to speak with or partner with him in the future.”

The news comes following the recent announcement of DaBaby’s string of US dates presented by Rolling Loud.

In a statement provided to NME, a Rolling Loud spokesperson said: “Rolling Loud supports second chances and we believe DaBaby has grown and learned from his experience. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to DaBaby’s fans seeing him live.”

DaBaby also appeared as a special guest during 50 Cent’s Rolling Loud show in New York on October 28. Fifty had previously defended the rapper, saying that he would “bounce back” from the scandal.

In August, he was at Kanye West’s listening party for ‘DONDA’ in Chicago alongside Marilyn Manson, who is also credited on ‘Jail pt 2’.

DaBaby calls police to remove his baby’s mother from his home

DaBaby called the police to remove his baby’s mother from his home following a disagreement over the weekend.

On Sunday (November 14) the rapper got into an argument with singer and rapper DaniLeigh – the mother of his youngest child – that was streamed on Instagram Live.

According to a lengthy statement shared by DaBaby after the argument was broadcast, he explained that he called the police to “swiftly remove myself from any of the ‘hostile’ behavior put on display moments ago”.

“This last hour has been documented for my safety and business. Don’t matter where. I’m sorry to my baby that her father is kicking her out [of] her home at three months.”

According to Rolling Stone, a rep from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed that around 11:59 pm local time, officers responded to a domestic assault call. Upon arrival, DaBaby said he had been assaulted by Dani and was referred to the Magistrates Office to pursue charges.

Kanye West defends performing with Marilyn Manson and DaBaby, criticises Me Too movement

Kanye West has defended his decision to perform alongside Marilyn Manson and DaBaby, while describing the Me Too movement as “power and politics”.

West – now legally known as Ye – took part in a lengthy, wide-ranging interview on the Drink Champs podcast yesterday (November 4).

At one point in the conversation, he spoke out on having courted controversy for recently working with Manson and DaBaby.

“All the Me Too… like, when I sit next to Marilyn Manson and DaBaby right after both of them got cancelled, for five songs, you know, it’s like they can’t cancel us all,” Ye explained.

“They’ll hit you with the accusations of somebody who you was with 10 years ago.”

He continued: “And also, there’s women who’ve been through really serious things, pulled in alleys against their will – that’s different than a hug, but it’s classified as the same thing.

“It’s power and politics. You know, power-hungry maniacs and just control. This is 1984 mind control we’re in.” You can watch the interview in full below.

Manson participated in West’s live-streamed Sunday Service event last weekend (October 31). He also has a writing credit on Ye’s new album ‘DONDA’ for the track ‘Jail Pt 2’.

The musician – real name Brian Warner – has been accused of sexual assault, misconduct and abuse by multiple women in the past year, including his former partner Evan Rachel Wood. He has denied the allegations, calling them “horrible distortions of reality”.

Back in August, Manson and DaBaby joined West at his ‘DONDA’ listening event at the Soldier Field stadium in Chicago. DaBaby addressed being “cancelled” during his appearance.

It came after DaBaby faced backlash for making homophobic comments at Rolling Loud Miami.

Meanwhile, a deluxe version of Kanye West’s ‘DONDA’ has reportedly been teased on Apple Music.

Dave Grohl discusses ‘Nevermind’ baby lawsuit: “He’s got a ‘Nevermind’ tattoo. I don’t”

Dave Grohl has discussed the ongoing lawsuit between the cover star of Nirvana‘s iconic ‘Nevermind’ artwork and the band themselves.

Earlier this year, Spencer Elden, the child who appears in the artwork, sued the surviving members of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain’s estate, alleging the image was an example of child pornography and sexual exploitation.

After saying he had “many ideas of how we should alter that cover” in the future, Grohl has now further discussed the ongoing issue in a new interview.

Talking to Vulture, Grohl said: “I don’t know that I can speak on it because I haven’t spent too much time thinking about it. I feel the same way most people do in that I have to disagree. That’s all I’ll say.”

Asked about Grohl’s thoughts on Elden re-creating the photo as an adult, Grohl added: “Listen, he’s got a ‘Nevermind’ tattoo. I don’t.”

Nirvana are also about to release a 30th anniversary edition of the classic album, however Elden wants his image censored on the reissue.

Elden also wants the album art altered for any future re-releases, according to his lawyer Maggie Mabie. “If there is a 30th anniversary re-release, he wants for the entire world not to see his genitals,” lawyer Maggie Mabie told The Associated Press.

Since the lawsuit was filed, a deluxe 30th anniversary reissue of ‘Nevermind’ has been officially announced and is set to be released on November 12. Pre-orders for the various deluxe edition are currently available on Nirvana’s website with Elden’s image uncensored.

Elsewhere, Nirvana have this week (October 25) won another lawsuit they were involved in, which claimed one of their most recognisable T-shirt designs is based on a copyrighted illustration of Dante’s ‘Inferno’.

Elton John confirms Christmas duet with Ed Sheeran and jokes about LadBaby battle

Elton John has confirmed to NME that he and Ed Sheeran are working on a Christmas song together, and joked about a battle for Number One with LadBaby.

Sheeran revealed the news this month in an interview with Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2, saying that John reached out to him for the collaboration last year after he discovered that his own Christmas song ‘Step Into Christmas’ had hit the UK Top 10 for the first time ever.

  • READ MORE: Elton John: “I’m not interested in the past – not even Elton John’s past”

Speaking to NME for this week’s Big Read cover feature, John says he was surprised that Sheeran revealed the news, as he himself was sworn to secrecy over the track.

“Yeah, he let the cat out of the bag didn’t he?” John told NME. “I was sworn to secrecy and then big mouth fucking Sheeran goes to the Netherlands! It’s supposed to come out – we haven’t finished it yet, so there’s still work to be done.”

Teasing the track, John added: “I can’t say any more than that because it’s in his hands,” before discussing a potential battle for UK Number One with LadBaby, who has picked up the last three Christmas Number Ones with his novelty songs.

“We’ve got the sausage roll man to deal with, haven’t we? We’ve got LadBaby to deal with!” John laughed. “Once we bump him off, we might have a clear path to a hit record. He seems to have the monopoly on Christmas records. And good for him!”

NME Cover 2021 Elton John

John is on the cover of NME to celebrate his new collaborative album ‘The Lockdown Sessions’, out today.

Discussing the album in the interview, he said: “Everything’s been a bonus with this record. Whether it sells one copy or a million copies, it doesn’t matter to me. I had so much fun and I learnt so much from doing it.”

Elsewhere, last week Sheeran asked for people in the UK to help Elton John knock him off the top of the singles chart.

Sheeran occupied the top spot in the UK for the past 15 weeks, firstly with his comeback single ‘Bad Habits’ and more recently with his latest track ‘Shivers’, but, as was his wish, John’s ‘Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)’ featuring Dua Lipa went and topped the charts.

Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ baby wants his naked image censored on 30th anniversary reissue

Nirvana are about to release a 30th anniversary edition of their classic album ‘Nevermind’, however Spencer Elden – who posed as the swimming naked baby on the cover – wants his image censored on the reissue.

  • READ MORE: Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ at 30: a track-by-track guide from your favourite musicians

Elden, now 30, is currently suing the band’s surviving members and Kurt Cobain’s estate, among other individuals and entities. The lawsuit alleges that the use of Elden’s image on the album art, taken when he was a few months-old baby, amounted to “commercial child sexual exploitation”.

It goes on to allege that the band and other defendants “violated” federal child pornography statutes by using the image, and that Elden sustained “injuries” and “lifelong damages” as a result of the album cover and the record’s global success and fame.

“Neither Spencer nor his legal guardians ever signed a release authorising the use of any images of Spencer or of his likeness,” the filing claims, “and certainly not of commercial child pornography depicting him.”

According to TMZ, Elden’s lawyer, Mabie, is demanding Universal Music censor the image of Elden’s penis from the cover of the 30th anniversary reissue, requesting that the label “end this child exploitation and violation of privacy.”

TMZ reports that Elden’s lawyer, Maggie Mabie, is “demanding Universal redact the image of Elden’s genitalia” from the 30th anniversary reissue, requesting that the label “end this child exploitation and violation of privacy.”

Meanwhile, Biffy Clyro‘s Simon Neil has recalled the impact that Nirvana‘s genre-defining second album, ‘Nevermind’, had on him and the rest of the band on its 30th anniversary.

“Nirvana were just three normal guys from a rainy and miserable part of the world who were expressing themselves in a really primal way,” Neil told NME. “‘Nevermind’ gave our band permission to exist.”

Princess Nokia teams up with Yung Baby Tate for new track ‘Boys Are From Mars’

Princess Nokia has teamed up with Yung Baby Tate for a new track called ‘Boys Are From Mars’ – listen to it below.

  • READ MORE: Princess Nokia: “I have a very resourceful spirit – a survivor’s spirit”

The latest release from the New York rapper is her first since March’s ‘It’s Not My Fault’, which arrived with a video inspired by Jennifer Lopez‘s ‘If You Had My Love’.

Nokia’s team up with Baby Tate hears the pair tackle toxic masculinity while adding a dash of humour into the mix.

First block him to stop him from blocking your blessin’/ He cute but he dumb, so play dumb and teach him a lesson/ First cut off access, can’t have this, because you’re a present/ Just ’cause his dick good, don’t mean good, he will have you stressin’,” Noka raps on the first verse.

The pair then come together for the playful chorus: “Boys are from Mars, girls are from Venus/ Sink with my heart, link with your penis/ Can’t make me cum but you think you’rе a genius/ Boys are from Mars, girls are from Venus.

Listen to ‘Boys Are From Mars’ below:

In 2020, Princess Nokia released two albums simultaneously in ‘Everything Is Beautiful’ and ‘Everything Sucks’.

In a three-star review, NME said: “Thematically, ‘Everything Sucks’ and ‘Everything is Beautiful’ fail to deliver anything new. They have all the hallmarks of a Princess Nokia record – female empowerment, introspective monologues about her childhood and Bruja spirituality (a type of witchcraft practiced by some Latin American populations).

“Musically, she is yet to develop a cohesive sound […] ‘Everything Sucks’ often feels something like a musical patchwork quilt; all the sounds are stitched together but remain distinctly separate. Perhaps, given Princess Nokia’s notoriously protean nature, this is the point of this whole project.”

Lil Nas X reveals he wanted Lady Gaga on his album and Nicki Minaj on the song ‘Industry Baby’

Lil Nas X has revealed some A-list collaborations he had in mind for ‘Montero’, his debut studio album released last Friday (September 17).

In a Twitter Q&A conducted by the artist yesterday (September 22), Lil Nas X fielded questions from fans who used the hashtag #askMONTERO.

One user asked if he would ever collaborate with Lady Gaga, to which Lil Nas X responded: “Yes i actually wanted a song with her on the album but i never finished writing to it & sending it to her.”

Another user asked about the song Lil Nas X had sent to Nicki Minaj in hopes of a feature, which he’d revealed he’d done in an interview with The Breakfast Club, to no response.

The song was the single ‘Industry Baby’, Lil Nas X said, which ultimately got a guest verse from Jack Harlow.

Elsewhere in the Twitter Q&A, Lil Nas X revealed the rapper Ski Mask the Slump God was nearly on the album and teased the inclusion of an as-yet-unfinished song ‘My Little Baby’ on the deluxe edition of ‘Montero’.

He also explained that he has yet to do a guest verse on another artist’s song as he hasn’t found the “right one”. “I want it to feel like a moment,” he added.

‘Montero’ ultimately featured a list of collaborators including Megan Thee Stallion, Elton John, and Miley Cyrus, among others.

Earlier this week, Lil Nas X revealed to BBC Radio 1 that a collaborative single with Lizzo is “definitely going to happen”.

“It’s going to be a banger bop, everyone’s going to love it and [Radio 1 is] going to play it 3billion times,” he added.

Kendrick Lamar links up with Baby Keem once again on new track ‘Range Brothers’

Kendrick Lamar has delivered another new verse for his cousin Baby Keem, appearing on the latter’s new track ‘Range Brothers’.

This is the second time Keem has recruited Lamar for a track, with the two linking up for single ‘Family Ties’ at the end of last month.

Both ‘Range Brothers’ and ‘Family Ties’ appear on Baby Keem’s debut album ‘The Melodic Blue’, which dropped earlier today (September 10). Aside from Lamar, the album features contributions from Travis Scott, Don Toliver and Rosalía.

Earlier this week, Drake premiered a new version of his track ‘What’s Next’, which featured contributions from Keem. Speaking to The Rap Pack earlier this year, Keem said he was meant to feature on the original track, and wasn’t sure why his version wasn’t released.

“That’s just his process. I look at it like if we don’t work now, we work later. Especially with someone like Drake, that’s his process. I can’t hate on another man’s process. I do the same thing,” he said.

“I’m the coolest person, I can’t ever be emotional about somebody’s process. That’s their process, you have to respect it.”

Keem was included in the NME 100 for 2021, praised for his “matter-of-fact delivery, cocky storytelling and infectiously simple choruses”.

Drake premieres collaborations with Playboi Carti, Baby Keem and Rema

Drake debuted three unreleased tracks over the weekend, following the release of his latest album ‘Certified Lover Boy’.

The Toronto rapper appeared as a guest DJ on SiriusXM’s Sound 42 radio show on Saturday (September 4) to celebrate the arrival of ‘Certified Lover Boy’. While the attention from the show was mostly directed to Drake leaking an unreleased collaboration between Kanye West and André 3000, he also premiered a handful of new collaborations.

As HipHop-N-More points out, one track was an unreleased collaboration with Playboi Carti and DJ Carnage titled ‘One Day’, while another was the song ‘Mention Me’ featuring Rema. Finally, Drake debuted a remix of ‘What’s Next’ featuring Baby Keem.

‘What’s Next’ is lifted from Drake’s March EP ‘Scary Hours 2’.

I do the same thing. I’m the coolest person, I can’t ever be emotional about somebody’s process. That’s their process, you have to respect it.”

NME gave ‘Certified Lover Boy’ a two-star review upon its release last Friday (September 3), writing that the album “offers nothing new to the rapper’s canon, merely going through the motions on his old formulas instead”.

Following its release, the rapper’s producer Noah “40” Shebib addressed the inclusion of an R Kelly sample on the track ‘TSU’. The song uses the same symphonic intro found on the video version of Kelly’s 1998 single ‘Half On A Baby’, meaning he is credited as a songwriter.

“On a song called tsu at the beginning is a sample of OG Ron c talking,” Shebib wrote on Instagram. “Behind that faintly which you can’t even hear is an r Kelly song playing in the background. It has no significance no lyrics are present, r Kelly’s voice isn’t even present but if we wanted to use Ron c talking we were forced to license it.”

He continued: “Doesn’t sit well with me let me just say that. And I’m not here to defend drakes lyrics, but I thought I would clear up that there is no actual r Kelly present and it’s a bit misleading to call him a co lyricist.”

Austin City Limits replaces DaBaby and Stevie Nicks with Tyler, the Creator and Duran Duran

Austin City Limits has made a handful of line-up changes ahead of the festival taking place in October at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas. The line-up was originally announced back in May of this year.

Duran Duran and Tyler, the Creator have been added to the line-up for both weekends, stepping in for Stevie Nicks and DaBaby.

Nicks announced earlier this week that she was cancelling her scheduled 2021 tour dates due to coronavirus concerns. The Fleetwood Mac singer said she would no longer be performing, addressing the “challenging times and challenging decisions”.

“I want everyone to be safe and healthy and the rising COVID cases [in the US] should be of concern to all of us,” the 73-year-old singer wrote, adding that she is “still being extremely cautious” despite being fully vaccinated.

DaBaby, meanwhile, was removed from the Austin City Limits earlier this month, along with numerous other festivals, following homophobic remarks he made during his appearance at Rolling Loud Miami in July.

The rapper received widespread backlash for his comments, including from past collaborator Dua Lipa, who said she was “surprised and horrified” by his remarks, adding, “I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with.”

This year’s edition of Austin City Limits is set to run between 1-3 and 8-10 October. Other acts set to perform include Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Rüfüs Du Sol, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Machine Gun Kelly, Modest Mouse and Phoebe Bridgers.

Nick Cannon defends DaBaby following apology: “Let’s use this as an opportunity for education”

Nick Cannon has voiced his support for DaBaby following the rapper’s recent apology for the homophobic comments he made while on stage at Rolling Loud Festival last month.

DaBaby has been widely condemned for the remarks he made about homosexuality and people with HIV/AIDS while on stage in Miami on July 25, with the likes of Elton John, Madonna and Dua Lipa all criticising the rapper. He has also been subsequently dropped from the line-ups of a number of festivals.

After initially defending his actions in a series of videos posted on his Instagram Story, DaBaby issued an apology last week. “I want to apologise to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made,” he wrote. “Again, I apologise for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I knew education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”

DaBaby deleted the apology off his Instagram account over the weekend, though a previous apology he made following Rolling Loud is still visible on his Twitter.

Appearing on The Breakfast Club yesterday (August 9), TV presenter, actor and musician Cannon was asked by the hosts for what advice he would give DaBaby.

“First of all, I think not only in the Black community – and I’ve experienced it – but definitely just men a lot of times, we have that ego,” Cannon replied. “We believe apologising is weakness when it actually takes great strength to step up to anyone and say, ‘I was wrong’.

“I know Baby. And that’s a strong brother… That man just lost his pops, his brother, all the things… and still to have that big smile that he has every day, knowing everything… He a fighter. We’ve seen his back against the wall. He’s swinging, he’s swinging just so he could get out of…. We all have to accept emotion.”

Cannon added that “to say ‘I’m sorry,’ that’s a self-proclamation. To apologise is an action”.

“And to actually repent or atone is actually the next level because now you’re trying to understand, there’s education involved with that, there’s actually community involved with that. And that’s the other thing too, where I challenge all these people who want to cancel somebody, and even specifically in DaBaby’s situation, let’s use this as an opportunity for education.”

Cannon also said that he didn’t agree with festivals pulling DaBaby from their line-ups.

“Just because it’s like, ‘What statement is that making other than you’re just following?’ It’s groupthink. It’s a mentality, it’s mob rule,” he said. “Mob rule has never worked in any society, to where it’s like, ‘Oh well they did it! So we gotta do it,'” he said. “Even when I watched my process, where people I rocked with was like, ‘Man, well, they did, so we gotta follow suit.’

“This is a moment where we should all gather around DaBaby and embrace him, because if we can do that, watch how many mentalities will change in the hip-hop community.”

Cannon added that he would “guarantee you [DaBaby would] sit down and talk with Madonna, I’d guarantee you he’d sit down and talk with Elton John” about his offensive comments.

“Was he wrong, though? Yeah, he was. But there are certain things about it that we’ve been trained to think that. Let’s unpack that. Let’s figure this out.”

Last week Miley Cyrus reached out to DaBaby and called for “forgiveness and compassion” for the rapper in an Instagram post.

Kanye West removes DaBaby-featuring ‘Nah Nah Nah’ remix from streaming amid controversy

Kanye West has removed ‘Nah Nah Nah’ remix featuring 2 Chainz and DaBaby from streaming platforms amid DaBaby’s controversial comments about the LGBT+ community.

  • READ MORE: Kanye West’s much-delayed 10th album ‘DONDA’: the story so far

Fans spotted that the 2020 song is no longer available on streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal. Only an instrumental mix remains.

No explanation has been given about the track’s withdrawal. It’s not known at this stage if it’s linked to DaBaby’s insensitive comments about HIV/Aids at last month’s Rolling Loud Miami festival.

The rapper’s remarks were criticised as homophobic. During his set he said: “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two or three weeks, put your cellphone light up.”

He also said: “Ladies, if your pussy smell like water, put your cellphone light up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up.”

DaBaby later denied he was being homophobic and that his remarks had been “digested” wrong because they were to do with sexual health, not sexual orientation.

He issued a fresh apology last Monday (August 2). However, social media users noticed his latter, more coherent apology posted on his Instagram has since been deleted.

Meanwhile, in Kanye news, the rapper has delayed the release of his new album ‘DONDA’ for a third time.

His 10th record was set to be released on July 23, following its delay from July last year, however it never materialised on streaming platforms. It was then expected to arrive on Friday (August 6) but will now reportedly land either this Friday (August 15) or Sunday (August 15).

DaBaby appears to have deleted his apology for HIV/AIDS comments

DaBaby’s apology to the LGBTQ+ community for his comments about HIV and AIDS appears to have been deleted from his Instagram page.

The rapper denied that he was being homophobic after he came under fire for comments that he made during his Rolling Loud Miami set last month.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two or three weeks, put your cellphone light up,” he was heard saying in footage from the set that was shared to social media.

After initially defending his actions in a series of 19 videos posted on his Instagram Story, DaBaby posted an apology to his feed last week (August 2). “I want to apologise to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made,” he wrote. “Again, I apologise for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I knew education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”

Now, that post is no longer visible on his Instagram page, as reported by Pop Crave. NME has contacted representatives for DaBaby for comment on the matter.

A previous apology that the rapper posted on Twitter is still visible on his account on that social media platform. It read: “Anybody who done ever been effected by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies.

“But the LGBT community… I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business.”

A group of 11 organisations working in HIV/AIDS prevention, education and treatment penned an open letter to DaBaby last week (August 5), requesting a private meeting to address his comments.

GLAAD’s associate director Dashawn Usher said: “DaBaby and all Americans must learn the truth about HIV and work towards defeating the stigma that keeps people from HIV prevention and life-saving treatment that allows them to live long and healthy lives, and not transmit HIV.

“DaBaby can be a powerful and influential voice where Black Americans need it most. We urge him to learn the facts and use his platform to share the truth that can save lives.”

Since footage of DaBaby’s comments was posted on social media, the rapper has been dropped from a number of festival appearances, including as a headliner at Chicago’s Lollapalooza and his planned slot at New York’s Governors Ball.

Various Artists Fire Over Babylon: Dread, Peace & Conscious Sounds at Studio One

Over the past few decades, Soul Jazz have made a name for themselves with stylish, smartly conceptualised comps. Their curatorial touch is sure but lightly applied, and if they sometimes skirt predictability, there’s something to be said for the reliability of their approach, particularly when taking on a catalogue as deep as the productions made at Clement Dodd’s Studio One, the ‘Motown of Jamaica’. A legendary place, with Dodd a gifted producer, some of reggae’s greatest passed through – Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer and Johnny Nash all cut sides there, often backed by house band the Skatalites; arranger Jackie Mittoo finetuned his craft at the studio, too.

  • ORDER NOW: The Beatles are on the cover of the September 2021 issue of Uncut

Fire Over Babylon is particularly potent, though, for its focus, pulling together a selection of Studio One sides lit by the devotional spirit of Rastafarianism. A religion steeped in defiance of ongoing colonial invasion, Rastafarianism cohered as a belief system in the 1930s, with preachers calling for a return of all black people to Africa, following the appearance of their new god. Rastafarianism’s history is a complex one, a sect in perpetual battle with hegemonic institutional forces (the police, the government), defiantly anti-capitalist, and imbued with a deep sense of righteousness, ‘rebel spirit’, and a relentless drive towards black self-determination.

Dodd never clearly articulated his faith to the public, but he ran deep with Rastafarian artistic communities. He’d take members of the Skatalites to drummer Count Ossie’s ‘reasoning and jam sessions’ in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains. Ossie was central to the development and dissemination of nyabinghi, a compelling rhythmic base to those reasoning sessions. At its most furious and expansive, Ossie’s music was properly psychedelic, as form-disruptive and mantric as free jazz: Soul Jazz head Stuart Baker describes Ossie’s work with Cedric “Im” Brooks and the Mystic Revelation Of Rastafari, as a “supergroup the equivalent of Sun Ra and John Coltrane in jazz”.

Ossie’s contribution to Fire Over Babylon, ecorded in collaboration with Brooks, feels like the centrepiece of the collection, the magnetic attractor around which all the other material gathers. On Give Me Back Me Language And Me Culture, the flipside of a 1971 single that originally appeared on producer and label owner Junior Lincoln’s Banana imprint, Ossie and Brooks tie everything together in a spectacular production: the bubbling brook of hand-pulsing rhythms draw from nyabinghi traditions; the brass arrangement calls back to mento; the bass is a slow, sly depth charge; the vocal chorus is gently insistent, an imploring chant.

Just as often, though, the heaviness of the songs’ content is often belied by the fleet-footedness of the production – Devon Russell’s Jah Jah Fire, for example, is breezy, aerated, its rustling, buzzing organ the melodic sugarcoating on Russell’s devotional plaint. By contrast, The Gladiators’ Sonia is starchy and stripped back, its rhythm carved from a granite block of texture, a minimalist masterpiece of interlocking parts. There’s a fierceness to the discipline here that can gift even the lightest of production touches with the heaviest gestural implications: the playing is tight, in the pocket, the better to build a solid foundation for the vocalists’ to-and-fro chants and soul-spun melancholy.

That discipline, something that’s always felt core to Clement Dodd’s productions with Studio One, isn’t stentorian, though. There’s great playfulness and pleasure at the heart of Fire Over Babylon: from the way the trumpet skates and glides over the lithe rhythms and dubbed-out rimshots of Judah Eskender Tafari, or the hissing hi-hats and wandering bass that grounds The Prospectors’ Glory For I, there’s space here for joy and celebration, too. Wailing Souls’ Rock But Don’t Fall, a lovely, chimeric thing that rides in on chiming piano chords and a muted guitar riff, captures the spirit here tidily: spiritual but open, light and loving but with depth of conviction.

If there’s any risk here, it’s that Fire Over Babylon doesn’t allow for the extension that can make Rastafarian roots music so intoxicating. Some of the most powerful material in this realm was recorded elsewhere, like Dadawah’s Peace And Love: Wadadasow, and the epochal sets Ossie and Brooks essayed with Mystic Revelation Of Rastafari, titles like Grounation, Tales Of Mozambique and One Truth. That’s maybe a little unfair to Soul Jazz’s focus on the Studio One archives, and they’ve certainly done an excellent job with Fire Over Babylon. Think of it as just one of many angles you could take on this eternally nourishing music, and you won’t walk wrong.

Dua Lipa and DaBaby’s ‘Levitating’ is getting less airplay after rapper’s homophobic remarks

Dua Lipa‘s ‘Levitating’ featuring DaBaby is getting less airplay following the latter’s recent homophobic comments, a report has found.

  • READ MORE: Dua Lipa & The Blessed Madonna – ‘Club Future Nostalgia’ review: exciting and eclectic

The song originally appeared as a solo track on Lipa’s March 2020 album ‘Future Nostalgia’. The remixed version with DaBaby was released as a standalone single that October.

Now, research has revealed that radio stations are increasingly returning to the original version after widespread condemnation of DaBaby’s remarks about HIV/AIDS.

Billboard, citing MRC Data, reports that on July 27, shortly after the remarks were made at Rolling Loud Miami, 70.2 per cent of radio stations playing ‘Levitating’ aired the remixed version over the original. By August 2, that was down to 49.5 per cent.

The publication also spoke to a number of radio programmers on the issue. Audacy, who run a radio chain including 235 local stations, said the remix was pulled outright “in light of DaBaby’s homophobic statements”.

Lipa herself was among the many artists who spoke out against DaBaby. “I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with,” she said.

“I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100 per cent with the LGTBQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”

Victoria Monet has since offered to replace DaBaby on the track, describing herself as “totally available”.

Apologising for his comments on Monday, DaBaby said: “I want to apologise to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made”.

“Again, I apologise for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important.”

“I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received.”

Earlier today (August 5), meanwhile, 11 organisations in HIV/AIDS prevention, education and treatment penned an open letter to DaBaby requesting a private meeting to address the issue.

Miley Cyrus reaches out to DaBaby in wake of rapper’s homophobic comments: “There’s no more room for division”

Miley Cyrus has reached out to DaBaby, who recently sparked outrage and backlash over homophobic comments, and called for “forgiveness and compassion” for the rapper in an Instagram post.

The post, shared yesterday (August 4), came in the wake of several music festivals dropping DaBaby from their line-ups in the wake of his homophobic outburst at Rolling Loud festival in Miami. The likes of Sir Elton John, Dua Lipa, Madonna and Questlove have condemned the rapper’s homophobic rant onstage about HIV/AIDS, gay people and women.

Cyrus has taken a different tact, reaching out to the rapper via direct messages on Instagram in order to “see how we can learn from each other” and “help be part of making a more just and understanding future.”

“The internet can fuel a lot of hate & anger and is the nucleus of cancel culture, ” Cyrus wrote in her post, “but I believe it can also be a place filled with education, conversation, communication & connection.

“It’s easier to cancel someone than to find forgiveness and compassion in ourselves or take the time to change hearts and minds. There’s no more room for division if we want to keep seeing progress.”

The post has received over 660,000 likes. It has, however, elicited a mixed response in its comments section. DaBaby is yet to publicly respond to Cyrus’ post at the time of writing. Read the full post below:

‘Fortnite’ fans find planned DaBaby emote in files amidst rapper’s homophobia scandal

Data-miners have discovered files in Fortnite that suggest Epic Games is planning to add an emote based on ‘AM to PM’ – a song featuring DaBaby – amidst controversy surrounding the rapper’s homophobic comments.

  • READ MORE: ‘ToeJam & Earl’ taught us about aliens, hip-hop – and what it means to find home again

The audio discovered in the data-mine is ‘AM to PM’, a song by Migos featuring DaBaby. While the emote is not currently out, data-mined files show that the emote could have been planned to release later in this update.

NME has reached out to Epic for comment. There are already two emotes based on DaBaby songs in Fortnite, namely dances for BOP on Broadway and Rockstar.

Epic Games may choose not to release the emote, as Fortnite recently celebrated the LGBTQIA+ community with a Rainbow Royale event while DaBaby has been the subject of significant backlash following homophobic comments made during his set at Rolling Loud festival.

“If you didn’t show up with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two or three weeks, put your cellphone light up”, he said – further adding, “Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up.”

After doubling down on his comments, DaBaby was recently dropped from his headlining set at Lollapalooza, as well as slots at Governors ball, Austin City Limits and Music Midtown.

After dropping DaBaby on the day of his performance, a statement from Lollapalooza organisers read: “Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect and love. With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight.”

On Monday (August 2), DaBaby apologised to the LGBTQIA+ community for his “triggering” and “misinformed” comments.

In other news, the latest Fortnite update is now available and adds a variety of alien technology, including a gravity gun and a powerful plasma cannon.

DaBaby reportedly lost Lollapalooza slot after failing to deliver promised video apology

DaBaby reportedly lost his headline Lollapalooza slot after failing to deliver a promised video apology for his recent homophobic comments.

The rapper received widespread criticism for controversial comments he made surrounding homosexuality and HIV/AIDS on stage at Rolling Loud Miami on July 25.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two or three weeks, put your cellphone light up,” he said. “Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up.”

According to Billboard, representatives for DaBaby – real name Jonathan Kirk – reached out to the organisers of seven festivals at which the rapper was due to perform following his comments, to assure them a video apology was imminent, and would be delivered before he took to the stage at Lollapalooza.

On the morning of August 1, however, when the video message wasn’t delivered, Lollapalooza organisers issued a statement saying DaBaby had been dropped from the line-up entirely.

“Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love. With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight,” their statement read.

A last minute shuffle in the festival’s line-up saw Young Thug take DaBaby’s slot on the Bud Light Seltzer stage and G Herbo brought in to fill Young Thug’s original spot.

On August 2 it was announced that DaBaby had also been dropped from the lineups of the New York Governors Ball and Day N Vegas.

DaBaby then took to Instagram to offer a second and more coherent apology for his remarks, in which he said he was sorry for making “triggering” and “misinformed” comments.

“As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me — knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance — has been challenging,” he wrote.

“I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received.”

Despite this, yesterday (August 3), DaBaby was dropped from three more festivals, with the rapper taken off the bill of the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Music Midtown in Atlanta and ACL Fest in Austin.

DaBaby’s initial comments have received backlash from several of his contemporaries. Madonna reworked some of DaBaby’s comments, saying: “I want to put my cellphone lighter up and pray for your ignorance.”

Dua Lipa, who worked with DaBaby on a remix of her single ‘Levitating’, said she was “surprised and horrified” by his comments. “I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with,” she added.

Elton John also weighed in, criticising DaBaby for fuelling “stigma” around HIV. “Homophobic and HIV mistruths have no place in our society,” he said.

DaBaby removed from more festival lineups following homophobic comments

DaBaby has been removed from more music festivals following ongoing fallout from homophobic comments made by the rapper last month.

The rapper, real name Jonathan Kirk, has been widely condemned for the remarks he made about homosexuality and people with HIV/AIDS while on stage in Miami on July 25, with the likes of Elton John, Madonna and Dua Lipa all criticising DaBaby last week.

DaBaby was subsequently dropped from his slot at Lollapalooza over the weekend, and yesterday (August 2) he was removed from the New York festival Governors Ball.

Now, festivals including October’s Austin City Limits and next month’s Music Midtown have also announced that DaBaby will no longer be appearing.

Austin City Limits, which is run by the same promoters as Lollapalooza, C3 Presents, said “DaBaby will no longer be performing at Austin City Limits Music Festival — lineup update coming soon.”

Music Midtown posted a near-identical statement. “DaBaby will no longer be performing at Midtown Music Festival. Lineup update coming soon.”

In addition, Rolling Stone reports that DaBaby has been dropped from the bill of iHeartRADIO Festival in Las Vegas, which also takes place next month.

The HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust denounced DaBaby’s comments last week, saying that they “perpetuate HIV-related stigma and discrimination, as well as spreading misinformation about HIV”.

DaBaby first apologised for the remarks on Twitter on July 27, saying he had been “insensitive” and “anybody who done ever been effected by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset”. However, he later added: “Y’all cheer the fuck up & be proud of who you are cuz you can’t make me feel less of myself.”

Yesterday (August 2) he offered a second apology. “I want to apologise to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologise for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I knew education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”

DaBaby apologises to LGBTQ+ community for “hurtful and triggering comments”

DaBaby has offered a second and more coherent apology for comments made during his recent Rolling Loud Miami set in which he marginalised people with HIV and Aids.

The rapper, who has denied that he was being homophobic and that his remarks had been “digested” wrong, has today (August 2) issued a fresh apology. In it he said he’s sorry for making “triggering” and “misinformed” remarks and acknowledged that he needed to be better educated.

“Social Media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes,” he wrote.

“As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me — knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance — has been challenging. He continued: “I want to apologise to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologise for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I knew education on this is important. Love to all. God bless. – DaBaby”

At Rolling Loud Miami festival the artist had encouraged the crowd to put their mobile phone flashlights in the air if they “didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in two to three weeks”. Elsewhere, he said: “Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up.”

After a backlash, the rapper initially issued his own version of an apology via a music video for his single ‘Giving What It’s Supposed to Give’. The video ends with the message “Don’t Fight Hate With Hate” in rainbow lettering, with the conclusion: “My apologies for being me, the same way you want the freedom to be you.”

He’d also defended his actions in a series of 19 videos in his Instagram Stories, saying: “What I do at a live show is for the audience at the live show. It’ll never translate correctly to somebody looking at a little five, six-second clip from their goddamn crib on their phone.

“Because, regardless of what y’all motherfuckers are talking about and how the internet twisted up my motherfucking words, me and all my fans at the show, the gay ones and the straight ones, we turned the fuck up.”

DaBaby repeated and addressed the comments made during his set, saying: “I wasn’t going on no rant. That’s called a call to action, that’s what that’s called. Because I’m a live performer. I’m the best live performer, and the live show killer. You interact with your fans, you get what I’m saying?

“All the lights went up, gay or straight. You want to know why? Because even my gay fans don’t got fucking AIDS… They don’t got AIDS. My gay fans, they take care of theyself, they ain’t going for that… They ain’t no junkies. I said if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up. You know what my gay fans did? Put that motherfucking light up.

“My gay fans ain’t going for that. They got class. They ain’t sucking no dick in no parking lot,” he added. “Even my gay fans got standards.”

Sir Elton John, Dua Lipa, Madonna and Questlove, among others, have publicly condemned DaBaby and he’s also lost endorsement deals and festival performance slots.
