Watch Maluma and The Weeknd team up for ‘HAWÁI’ remix

Latin music star Maluma has recruited The Weeknd for a new remix of his huge single ‘HAWÁI’. Check out the video below.

The Latin chart-topper – written by Maluma, The Weeknd, Keityn, Edgar Barrera and Bull Nene, and produced by the Rude Boyz – now comes with a new spin that sees Abel Tesfaye sing in both English and Spanish, as well as a new remix video shot by director Jessy Terrero of Cinema Giants

“I have always admired The Weeknd so it feels nothing short of a dream come true to have him collab on ‘HAWÁI’ Remix – he brought another flow to it and sang in both Spanish and English which is impressive,” said Maluma.

The Weeknd’s acclaimed fourth album ‘After Hours‘ has proven a huge success this year, with the track ‘Blinding Lights’ becoming one of 2020’s best-selling singles. Released back in February this year, ‘After Hours’ received a four-star rating from NME, concluding that “his most all-encompassing record to date is also an existential quandary”.

The review added: “The Weeknd’s comeback record splits the difference between his hedonistic and reflective personas.”

He recently  teamed up with Oneohtrix Point Never on new song called ‘No Nightmares’, and also makes a guest appearance on Ariana Grande’s new album ‘Positions‘.

The R&B icon also made headlines this weekend for his impressive Halloween costume as The Nutty Professor.

The series is keeping details under wraps, but has revealed that it will feature actor and artist Silvia Calderoni walking around Rome, bumping into various musicians including Eilish and Styles.

Other guests will include Jeremy O. Harris, Arlo Parks and Florence Welch.

The film series is set to debut at GucciFest, the fashion house’s first-ever digital fashion and film festival, later this month.

Harry Styles is also set to star in Olivia Wilde’s new film, psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling, which recently started shooting. He will be acting opposite Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, Nick Kroll, Dita Von Teese and more. As well as sharing his new video for the single ‘Golden‘, the singer has also helped to fund a new £350million arena in Manchester.

Billie Eilish wrote the theme song for the forthcoming James Bond film No Time To Die earlier this year. Composer Hans Zimmer recently explained that there was a “box of songs” in the running before the team picked Billie’s.

He said ‘No Time To Die’ was “this small, leanly produced, very personal song to Billie”. He added: “I just went, ‘That’s it,’. And everybody said, ‘Well, but it’s not quite right. It’s not good.’ [I said] ‘No, no, no, here’s the mistake you’re making – she and Finneas haven’t seen the movie yet. They don’t know what they’re writing about. Get them on a plane, get them over here.’”

Listen to Blossoms’ festive double A-side ‘Christmas Eve (Soul Purpose)’/’It’s Going To Be A Cold Winter’

Blossoms are getting ready for the festive season by releasing new double A-side, ‘Christmas Eve (Soul Purpose)’/’It’s Going To Be A Cold Winter’. Check out the two new songs below.

  • On the cover – Blossoms: “We might be uncool, but so are ABBA and everyone loves them”

Having teased the release yesterday, looking ahead to the yuletide songs they wrote “on the hottest day of the year” back in summer, now the two new songs have arrived on streaming before coming out on a limited edition, 7-inch vinyl single on December 11.

Featuring their hometown’s Stockport Junior Voices Choir and with artwork by The Coral‘s James Skelly, ‘Christmas Eve (Soul Purpose)’ was produced by Skelly and Rich Turvey and recorded between Parr Street Studios, Liverpool and Hitsville Stockport – where the band themselves recorded and produced ‘It’s Going To Be A Cold Winter’.

This is the band’s first new material since releasing third album ‘Fooling Loving Spaces‘ earlier this year, and comes after they confirmed this week that they would be releasing a new documentary. Back To Stockport will look back at the band’s homecoming show at Stockport County FC’s Edgeley Park in June 2019, and arrive on Amazon Prime Video on November 8.

Over the summer, Blossoms confirmed they’d started work on their fourth record by sharing a series of studio shots online.

The band revealed ahead of their third LP’s release that they had already penned “most” of its follow-up. Frontman Tom Ogden said at the time that its first single was “pretty much done”, admitting that the band “[didn’t] want to wait too long before putting out something brand new”.

Uriah Heep keyboardist Ken Hensley has died, aged 75

Uriah Heep songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ken Hensley has died at the age of 75.

Confirming his passing, Hensley’s management said he had died “peacefully following a very short illness”.

His former Uriah Heep bandmate Mick Box said he was in “deep shock” and hailed his “musical legacy that will be in people’s hearts forever.”

“His beautiful wife Monica was at his side and comforted Ken in his last few minutes with us. We are all devastated by this tragic and incredibly unexpected loss,” Hensley’s brother Trevor wrote on Facebook.

During his time with the band, Hensley played a major role in popularising the role of keyboards in heavy rock, as well as masterminding one of the band’s biggest hits – the folk-rock epic ‘Lady In Black’.

He also wrote ‘Easy Livin’, which became a major European hit in 1972, and a string of other hits for the band.

His career with the group began in 1969 when they were known as Spice, before renaming themselves Uriah Heep, taking the name from a character in Charles Dickens’ seminal novel David Copperfield.

Hensley recorded 13 albums with the band, before leaving in 1980. Their biggest came in 1975’s ‘Return to Fantasy’, which reached No 7 in the UK album charts.

He departed the group after growing unhappy with the band’s direction – before taking roles in heavy rock bands including Blackfoot and Cinderella.

5th November 2020: I received devastating news this morning from Ken’s manager Steve Weltman that Ken Hensley has passed away.

My sincere condolences go to his family and wife Monica and may he rest in peace.

While occasional live reunions followed, he focused on solo work in the decades that followed, including 2007’s ‘Blood on the Highway’, an autobiographical rock opera.

As The Guardian notes, he recently finished a new album, My Book of Answers, which was due for release in February. His death comes only two months after that of Lee Kerslake, the band’s long-time drummer.

Foo Fighters share snippet of new music in teaser videos for 10th album

Foo Fighters have shared new videos teasing their upcoming tenth album – you can watch them below.

  • READ MORE: Foo Fighters: every single album ranked and rated in order of greatness

It comes after eagle-eyed fans spotted the band’s ‘FF’ logo in various locations alongside an ‘X’, the Roman numeral for 10. A black-and-white clip of a burning coffin has also appeared when Spotify users play certain Foos tracks.

The new 30-second visual, posted to Twitter last night (November 4), depicts the burning red eye of guitarist Pat Smear, and is accompanied by an isolated bass drum and handclap track. “#LPX,” the band captioned the video.

Later, the group shared a similar snippet featuring drummer Taylor Hawkins. The audio in this post contained the same section of the new song, but with an added snare drum. Check out both teasers below.

With an announcement of new music imminent, fans are speculating whether the Foos will perform the first single during their scheduled appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend (November 7).

Foo Fighters last released a full-length record with ‘Concrete And Gold’ in 2017, and confirmed in February that they had finished recording its follow-up. Back in May, Dave Grohl likened the new album to David Bowie’s 1983 LP ‘Let’s Dance’.

“It’s filled with anthemic, huge, sing-along rock songs,” he explained. “It’s kind of like a dance record, but not an EDM, disco, modern dance record. It’s got groove. To me, it’s our David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ record. That’s what we wanted to make, we wanted to make this really up, fun record.”

Grohl previously revealed that Foos’ tenth LP was “unlike anything we’ve ever done”. “There are choruses on this record that 50-fucking-thousand people are gonna sing, and it’s gonna bring everyone’s fucking hearts together in that moment,” he said. “And that’s what it’s all about.”

Lana Del Rey tells fan to “go fuxk yourself” after accusing her of voting for Donald Trump

As the results of the election continue to flow in, Lana Del Rey has told a fan to go “fuxk” themselves after they accused the singer of voting for Donald Trump.

In a now deleted tweet, Twitter user @holyh00ker said that they “just KNOW Elizabeth voted for Trump”, seemingly referring to Lana Del Rey’s real name – Elizabeth Grant.

Del Rey somehow caught wind of the tweet, and gave a very succinct response: “Go. Fuxk. Yourself.”

In a separate tweet that’s also been deleted, @holyh00ker revealed that they’re a fan of Lana’s, saying that they have her tattooed on their arm.

“Lana telling me to go fuck myself when I have her tattooed on my arm,” the user wrote, “lmfaoooo alright then.”

Del Rey also saw this tweet, and responded to it saying, “Nah read what u wrote hoe.”

It’s been a busy week for Lana Del Rey, following her announcement that the release of her forthcoming album ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’ would be delayed until spring.

She released the lead single from the album, ‘Let Me Love You Like A Woman‘, last month.

In the meantime, however, Del Rey has promised a digital album of “American standards and classics” that will apparently be released ahead of Christmas.

She also recently debuted an a cappella cover of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, which originally appeared in the Rogers and Hammerstein musical Carousel.

The cover was recorded for the forthcoming documentary about Liverpool FC, who have long been using the song as their anthem.

This week also saw Del Rey make a $350,000 USD donation to vulnerable communities in the Navajo Nation, in an effort to provide clean water.

Rough Trade shares trading plans for second lockdown

Rough Trade has shared its trading plans for the forthcoming coronavirus lockdown, which comes into effect on tomorrow (November 5).

  • Read more: How you can help your local independent record shop amid the coronavirus crisis

On Friday (October 31), Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a second national lockdown for England that will see non-essential shops such as record stores close until at least December 2.

While the month of quarantine will impact independent retail stores and HMV during a busy Q4 period in the lead up to Christmas, many record shops put measures in place during the previous lockdown that allowed them to continue trading online. Many stores set up delivery services or a click-and-collect option in a bid to survive.

Rough Trade, which has two stores in London as well as shops in Bristol and Nottingham, has now confirmed that all of its stores will be open for click-and-collect purchases from Monday to Saturday, 11am-6pm.

UK UPDATE

From Thursday 5th November we will be offering a Click & Collect service 11am-6pm, Monday-Saturday at all stores. Order at https://t.co/WF2YcZFpxv, ring the bell on arrival and someone will be along to help.

Keep safe out there. Thank you for your continued support x pic.twitter.com/EFZoGWCNrd

— Rough Trade (@RoughTrade) November 3, 2020

The company also opened a dedicated e-commerce fulfilment centre in Bristol earlier this year.

“When consumer demand was forced entirely online, our immediate challenge was being able to fulfil orders in a timely manner,” Rough Trade director Stephen Godfroy said (via Music Week). “This new, dedicated facility is now enabling us to provide a first-class online service, combining personable customer care with prompt delivery, ensuring our rapidly increasing number of new online customers keep returning after their all-important first purchase.”

In addition to an online mail-order operation, Rough Trade will also be taking phone orders during store hours for delivery or click-and-collect.

For more information or to place an order, visit the official Rough Trade website here.

Back in September, it was revealed that vinyl sales continued to rise in the UK despite the coronavirus crisis causing significant problems for other areas of the music industry.

Meanwhile, a new study has found that 170,000 jobs will be lost in the UK live music industry this year due to coronavirus restrictions if government support is withdrawn.

Last month saw over 1,000 venues, theatres, festivals, arts spaces and organisations in England celebrate in being awarded in the latest wave of £1.57billion Cultural Recovery Funding, helping them to weather the storm of coronavirus closures into next Spring.

However, many fear that freelance and self-employed workers and road crew are being “ignored” by the chancellor’s new Job Support Scheme and that the CRF bailout favours bricks and mortar establishments and the people employed by them.

From Reggaetón SpongeBob To Pop Smashes, Tainy Is ‘Going To Keep Pushing The Envelope’

By Lucas Villa

Think of your favorite reggaetón track. Whether it’s a Wisin & Yandel cut from the genre's 2000s breakthrough, like “Abusadora,” or a contemporary hit, like “Yo Perreo Sola” or “Callaíta,” Tainy has likely had a hand in it. When reggaetón was first rising up, the Puerto Rican producer was working under Luny Tunes, the duo du jour behind the song that lit the fuse for reggaetón, Daddy Yankee's “Gasolina.” In the 15 years since, he's become the go-to hitmaker for artists like J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and Anuel AA. Last month, on Billboard's Latin Producers chart, which ranks the producers with the biggest hits of the week, Tainy had sat at No. 1 for over 50 weeks. Recently, he was awarded Producer of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards for his achievements in that medium.

"That was amazing for me," he tells MTV News. "That's the first time [for me] getting an award like that. I'm happy, but I'm back to work to keep it going."

He’s also won three Latin Grammys, and he’s up for four more at the 2020 show later this month. He's nominated twice in the Album of the Year category for his work on two of the year's biggest releases: Bad Bunny's YHLQMDLG and J Balvin's Colores. This kind of success has been over a decade in the making.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjhW3vBA1QU

When Marco "Tainy" Masís was 14, his friend Nely "El Arma Secreta" introduced him to the world of music production. After learning the ropes from Nely, Tainy submitted his music to Luny Tunes, who signed the aspiring producer. After the genre's global success with "Gasolina," even non-Latinx acts were wanting in on the movement. In 2006, Paris Hilton commissioned a Luny Tunes remix of "Stars Are Blind" that the duo enlisted Tainy to work on. Boricua reggaetoneros Wisin & Yandel featured on the track. "For me that was crazy because reggaetón was exploding," he recalls. "Artists from all around the world were noticing what we were doing."

Tainy kept that momentum for reggaetón going well into the following decades, including stepping out from behind the boards as a listed artist on recent hits. This summer, Tainy aligned British pop star Dua Lipa with J Balvin and Bad Bunny on "Un Día (One Day)" and reworked the iconic SpongeBob Squarepants theme song on "Agua" with Balvin.

Like Luny Tunes did with him, Tainy is hoping to nurture the next generation of talent with his Neon16 label. The imprint's new release is "Falta," with Dominican-American rapper DaniLeigh, Tainy, and new signee Kris Floyd, which dropped on October 30. "It's one of my favorite tracks," he says. "Kris Floyd killed it. DaniLeigh killed it. They combined their voices so well." With his latest cut out in the world, Tainy talked to MTV News about the reggaetón music movement and the biggest hits of his career.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrZGAMjMCNM

MTV News: You have the unique perspective of working in reggaetón from its 2000s breakthrough to now. How has the scene changed over the years?

Tainy: The genre was still, like, evolving when I started and finding its way. I think now we have something more stable. You know the sound around the world. You know what reggaetón is. Now you have different sub-genres beneath it. It's a lot more structured now. It's now seeing where it can keep going. Before there was a lot of backlash, as in any other genre, that this wasn't music, that this was something people would not respect musically. It needed time to evolve and be perfected, like us as producers, the sound, the quality, and everything.

MTV News: You produced Justin Bieber's "Habitual" for his Changes album this year. What was it like to do something outside of reggaetón?

Tainy: I've always wanted to work with Justin. He gave me the opportunity to send in some music and he ended up liking the initial instrumental idea that I had. If you listen to the project, it's all in that same R&B vibe. Who knows? Maybe eventually we can do something like reggaetón with more movement. It's another goal for me to be able to work with artists of that caliber. I try to grow as a producer and not get locked in that you're just this reggaetón producer. I'm a fan of a lot of types of music. I want to see if I can add this to my repertoire of things that I can do and people that I can work with. Little by little I've gotten these chances with songs like "Habitual" and [Cardi B's] "I Like It," which is not a reggaetón song, and it was successful.

MTV News: Why did you start listing yourself as an artist on some of your recent songs?

Tainy: Me, as a producer and fan of music, I'm starting to create different ideas and things that I want to do. It's not necessarily what an artist is asking from me at the moment. This is one opportunity where I can say to an artist, "Yo, come into my world and see what I want to do music-wise." Now it's about what I want to do at this stage in my life and my career, what I want to transmit with my music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLz9VaksClg

MTV News: A big hit with your name on it is "Agua" with J Balvin. What was it like to remake the SpongeBob Squarepants theme?

Tainy: At the beginning it was a lot of pressure because everybody knows SpongeBob. Everybody knows the theme song, so you don't want to mess it up. As soon as I had the files and I was in the studio and in my zone, everything just started flowing naturally. It was a really fun experience creating the music and knowing that J Balvin would be the one to transmit that energy of the song. He was super hyped and into it.

MTV News: This summer you also bridged pop and reggaetón with Dua Lipa, J Balvin, and Bad Bunny on "Un Día (One Day)." What was that experience like?

Tainy: It's something I want to keep doing, merging genres and merging sounds. Seeing what else we can create. What else can be done that's not predictable. This beat on "Un Día" has a different vibe where you can feel the movement of a reggaetón song, but the same time, it can still feel pop. It can feel mellow. Combining those worlds of Dua Lipa, Balvin, and Bad Bunny, to me that's everything. As a producer, to have artists like that on one track is amazing.

MTV News: What do you see for the future of reggaetón music?

Tainy: I never thought reggaetón would be exactly where it is right now, so I could never know where else could this keep going. What I know is that I'm going to keep trying to expand and keep pushing the boundaries of what we're doing. I don't want to stay comfortable with where reggaetón is. I'm going to keep pushing the envelope.

1919 frontman Rio Goldhammer running for Mayor of West Yorkshire

Rio Goldhammer, frontman of post-punks 1919, has announced his plan to run for Mayor of West Yorkshire.

The vote for the position is set to take place on Thursday May 6, 2021, in line with a number of local elections across the UK.

In his statement announcing his bid, Goldhammer wrote: “The Metro Mayor should be considered, as Dan Jarvis stated, an interim position. I pledge to serve a single term, and to use this role to fight for a One Yorkshire devolution deal.

“I am committed to ensuring long-term goals for developing transport infrastructure, employment opportunities, affordable housing, and a green future for the people of West Yorkshire. However, there are issues that can be addressed immediately by a candidate with the determination to act.”

#refugeeswelcome #GoldhammerTime pic.twitter.com/Umg7PZhnH0

— Rio Goldhammer for West Yorkshire Mayor (@RioGoldhammer) October 22, 2020

Read Goldhammer’s point-by-point plan for Mayor below.

• End “No children or DSS” rental restrictions immediately.
• End all eviction and repossession orders for those in financial difficulty.
• Work with local lenders to remove the minimum property value for residential mortgages in West Yorkshire. Often this is set at £50000, ruling out a significant number of properties in our region which could be affordable to lower income families and individuals.
• End all detention and deportation of asylum claimants and refugees.
• Establish (or re-establish) a law centre in every local authority, to ensure access to justice irrespective of income.
• Introduce a 5-10% levy on independent school fees to support poorer schools in the region.

He added: “I have spent my life in Yorkshire, but my grandad was a Polish refugee and my nan a navy nurse from Glasgow. I am not a career politician; I am a teacher from a single-parent family. I am determined to fight racism, homophobia, poverty, injustice, and work towards a fair and prosperous Yorkshire for all.”

Bradford punks 1919 formed in 1980, before disbanding in 1986. Goldhammer became the band’s vocalist upon their reformation in 2014.

Since then, the band have released two albums, 2017’s ‘Bloodline’ and last year’s ‘Futurecide’.
