George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery are all people of color who were tragically taken from us way too soon. The most recent of these tragedies is Floyd who was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota this past week. Since his murder, there have been protests all across the country and people are rightfully demanding justice as the deaths of black people at the hands of the police have become all too common in our society.
Many celebrities are speaking out on these atrocities and are urging fans to donate to various causes that will help those most affected by these atrocities. Today, Travis Scott used his voice, as well as his partnership with Nike to help speak out on what's happening. In the ad below, there are numerous pieces of text that urge people to not remain silent. Instead, the ad asks those with a voice to speak up and let it be known that as a society, we won't stand for these injustices any longer.
At the end of the ad, Nike urges people to "be part of the change," which is truly a powerful message.
As for the Floyd case, the officer who directly led to his death has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder. Moving forward, the other cops involved are expected to be charged, as well.
Volkswagen Pulls Racist Ad & Apologizes
Volkswagen has issued a public apology after releasing a racially insensitive advertisement.
Following public outcry and backlash, German automaker Volkswagen has removed a video ad from their Instagram page that many are calling racist.
In the 10-second video uploaded to the company’s page, a pair of oversized white hands are seen dragging a black man away from a yellow car, the new Golf 8, and violently shoving him into a restaurant called “Petit Colon,” which in French translates to Little Colonist or Little Settler. Twitter users also pointed out that as the German slogan “Der Neue Golf” appears, the letters briefly spell the German iteration of the n-word. The ad has since been removed from the company’s official feed, but you can still watch the video on Twitter.
The company, which also owns automobile brands Audi and Porsche, issued a public apology on Wednesday in a statement made by the head of sales and marketing, Juergen Stackmann, and head of diversity management Elke Heitmueller. In a joint statement, the two shared their horror with the ad and that they were conscious of the company’s origins.
Volkswagen was founded in 1937 by the Nazi government and used slave labor from concentration camps during manufacturing.
Stackmann and Heitmüller said in the statement, “We posted a racist advertising video on Volkswagen's Instagram channel. We understand the public outrage at this. Because we're horrified, too.”
They continued, “We're ashamed of it and cannot explain how it came about. All the more reason for us to make sure we clear this up. And we will make the results and consequences of the investigation public.”
Volkswagen was the largest automaker by sales in 2016 and 2017.
Cardi B Gets Warning From FTC About Sponsored Detox Tea Ad
Cardi B and other Instagram users were warned by the Federal Trade Commission after failing to disclose their paid endorsements in sponsored detox tea ads.
Cardi B is among the many celebrities and influencers who received a warning from the Federal Trade Commission regarding their failure to disclose their paid endorsements from tea company, Teami, in their sponsored Instagram advertisements for Teami products. The FTC has declared that Teami, a company that sells “detox tea” products claiming to help with weight loss and even treat diseases, is guilty of misleading consumers with their advertisements. Teami has been accused of violating the FTC’s Endorsement Guides by paying influencers and celebrities to advertise their products on social media without requiring that these accounts disclose that these ads were sponsored.
“Today, there are more than 1 million Instagram posts that bear hashtags associated with detox teas on Instagram,” said Laura Smith, legal director of Truth in Advertising. “This means that on any given day, a countless number of young consumers are exposed to this egregious and widespread deceptive marketing issue.” The FTC has ordered the company to halt all misleading advertisements and return $1,000,000 to “consumers who were harmed.”

Further, the FTC has issued warnings to these celebrities and influencers like Cardi B who failed to disclose their sponsorship, including Jordin Sparks, Adrienne Bailon, Alexa PenaVega, Brittany Renner, and more. While stars like Kylie Jenner and Demi Lovato have previously been paid by Teami to advertise their products over social media, they did not receive warning letters from the commission.
Green Day Gets Dragged For Bizarre Anti-Trap Billboard For New Album
But why would anyone expect trap beats on a Green Day album anyway?
Green Day tried to get creative with an advertisement for their new album that came out on Friday, Father Of All..., but ended up getting clowned for it instead. On a billboard, the band promoted their first record in four years with the following descriptors:
"NO FEATURES
NO SWEDISH SONGWRITERS
NO TRAP BEATS
100% PURE UNCUT ROCK"
I know. There's a lot to unpack here. First off, it's pretty common that rock bands don't recruit guest features for their projects. No one was perusing the Father Of All... tracklist for Gunna's name, but it probably would have spiced things up. Considering Swedish songwriters are most prominent in the realm of pop, no one was expecting any to contribute to a Green Day record either! You're Billie Joe Armstrong, not Taylor Swift! The weird flex that appears to be grinding most people's gears on Twitter is that the album includes not a single trap beat. Yes, trap influences have seeped into other musical genres, traces of which can often be found in today's pop and R&B. However, trying to market your album by bashing the most popular trend in music at the moment just gives off serious "Boomer energy" at best - as one Twitter user remarked - and racist undertones at worst. Lastly, who even listens to "pure uncut rock" these days?
Check out some reactions to the billboard below.
Bill Murray Reprises His Iconic Role From "Groundhog Day" For Jeep Super Bowl Ad
Fun fact: the Super Bowl has actually fallen on the real Groundhog Day this year.
Bill Murray has found himself in the same dilemma as he did in 1993: he keeps reliving the same day over and over again! The seasoned actor and comedian has reprised his role as Phil Connors in the 1993 film, Groundhog Day, which sees Murray’s character waking up on the same day, every day. The blast from the past took place in a Fiat Chrysler Super Bowl ad for the Jeep Gladiator pickup, and aired on Sunday morning, the same day as, of course, the Super Bowl, and the real Groundhog Day this year. In the commercial, Bill as Phil has to endure the same day over and over, but ultimately learns to enjoy his fate thanks to his Jeep Gladiator.
Replacing the classic Chevrolet C-10 pickup that served as Phil’s getaway car in the original film, the Gladiator takes Bill and his new groundhog pet on a new adventure every day, from biking and snow drifting to playing whack-a-mole, which, Bill as Phil tells the groundhog, is “just a game.” The slogan for the ad, “No day is the same in a Jeep Gladiator,” is a play on the movie’s original poster that said, “He’s having the day of his life…over and over again.”

Olivier Francois, head of Fiat Chrysler Chief Marketing Office, reached out to Bill back in October upon realizing that the Super Bowl would fall on Groundhog Day in 2020 for the first time in 54 years. “What is incredible here is that obviously we got Bill Murray to say yes to do it. This is totally a miracle,” he said, noting that it was “crucial” that Bill sign on for the ad. “It’s the same kind of miracle having Super Bowl Sunday falling on Groundhog Day.” They wanted to make the ad as close to the original film as possible, down to the last detail. The ad was shot at the same location as the film (Woodstock, Illinois), and features appearances by Bill’s brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, who played the city of Punxsutawney’s mayor, and Stephen Tobolowsky as “Needlenose Ned” Ryerson. The ad also was released at 6 a.m., the same time that Phil woke up everyday in the movie.

According to Olivier, much of the commercial was unscripted, Bill using his famous improv skills for much of the comedic effect. “He is just a free spirit. He will just do what he wants to do just in the moment. He will be adventurous,” said Olivier about Bill.” It’s in perfect alignment with Jeep’s DNA. And like Jeep, he is a global American cultural icon.”

The Super Bowl is coming on Sunday. The thing about the Super Bowl is that everyone tunes into it but there’s a good chance there’s a large chunk of folks who are just tuning in for the commercials. Now, if you know Kanye, then you know he’s a big fan of McDonald’s. In Frank Ocean‘s Boys Don’t Cry magazine, Kanye penned a poem in tribute to the fast good chain called “McDonald’s Man.” McDonald’s recently revealed their ad for the Super Bowl and they got a few major name celebrities to help them out without actually appearing in the commercial.
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian also contributed by revealing their go-to orders at McDonald’s. For Kanye, he’s a simple guy who enjoys his nuggets. His go-to order consists of a six-piece, three packets of BBQ sauce, a chocolate McFlurry, and a small fries. Kim’s order is a bit more left-field than Kanye. Although she does have the six-piece nuggets, small fry, and chocolate McFlurry, she also adds an apple pie and a cheeseburger. Oh, and for dipping sauce, she opts for honey which she says is “the only way to eat” chicken nuggets.
Other celebrity orders include Whoopi Goldberg and Millie Bobby Brown.
Post Malone Gets Doritos Face Tattoo In Hilarious New Advertisement
Goodbye, Post Malone. Hello, Post Limón.
Nobody would be shocked if Post Malone woke up in the morning and decided to get a nacho chip tattooed on his face. At this point, the man is predictably unpredictable. His face is filled up with random markings that define his brand, including the barbed wire across his forehead and his famous "Always Tired" tattoos under his eyes. He keeps on making additions to his visage, collecting tats and leading his fanbase to ponder what would come next for him. As seen in the new advertisement by Doritos, Posty is making sure that he's always got the taste of nacho cheese on his lips because he went and got a chip drawn onto his skin.
Sure, the tattoo isn't legitimate but we wouldn't be surprised if Malone actually took inspiration from this and decided to get it done for real. In addition to his name change to Post Limón, the rapper is celebrating his new favorite flavor of Doritos with a face tattoo. "Allow me to introduce myself," captioned the superstar, posting a video of his ad with the company. His "Wow" single is the basis of the whole thing, causing him to enter a daze when he chews on the Limón goodness.
Who's joining Post Malone and getting a Doritos face tattoo?
