Rex Ryan got himself into quite a bit of trouble this morning as he went on ESPN's Get Up! and went on a scathing rant towards Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper. In fact, Ryan went so far as to call Cooper a "turd" which was pretty out of bounds.
“To me, this is the biggest disappearing act in the National Football League,” Ryan said. “He doesn’t show up on the road … when he’s against the top corners, that guy disappears…I wouldn’t have paid that turd.”
After coming to his senses, Ryan went back on ESPN and offered an apology for his actions. As he explains, he wasn't in the right mind to use such language with Cooper.
"I can't believe I said that. Used that word. Obviously, it was a poor choice by me to say what I said about Amari," Ryan said. "What I added at the end of that. I want to apologize to Amari again and hope he accepts my apology."
It remains to be seen whether or not Cooper saw the rant although we can't imagine he will be extremely forgiving when he does hear about it. After all, Ryan was pretty harsh and it's clear what he thinks of the wide receiver, regardless of the use of the word, "turd."
Rex Ryan Viciously Roasts Amari Cooper, Calls Him A "Turd"
Rex Ryan had some very harsh words for Amari Cooper of the Dallas Cowboys.
Rex Ryan has been known for being a bit of a hot take artist ever since his foray into sports analysis. The former head coach was always an outspoken man back in his heyday and that still continues, even in 2020. ESPN's Get Up! is where he spends most of his time and on Friday morning, he came through with some slander for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Amari Cooper.
Cooper recently signed a massive deal with the Cowboys worth $100 million over five seasons. Ryan trashed the deal saying the money they gave Cooper should be given to quarterback Dak Prescott. Ryan also went on to say that Cooper has been known to disappear and that he doesn't love football. He even went as so far as to hit with a personal insult, calling him a "turd."
“To me, this is the biggest disappearing act in the National Football League,” Ryan said. “He doesn’t show up on the road … when he’s against the top corners, that guy disappears…I wouldn’t have paid that turd.”
It's hard to say why Ryant felt the need to go so hard on Cooper although it's clear there is some kind of tension there. Cooper has been seen by many as a great teammate who you can rely on to make big plays. If you're a Cowboys fan, this rant certainly came out of left field.
Cowboys Ink Amari Cooper To Massive New Deal: Details
Amari Cooper just secured the bag from the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys fans have been stressed out of their minds these past couple of weeks due to the looming free agency cycle. It's well-known at this point that the Cowboys had two massive free agents to sign. The first was quarterback Dak Prescott and the second was wide receiver Amari Cooper. Yesterday, it was announced that Prescott would be hit with the franchise tag. This led to some hysteria on social media as Cowboys fans scrambled to figure out what's going on.
Luckily, they got a tiny bit of levity last night as it was revealed that Cooper would be staying with the Cowboys. The wide receiver got himself a massive contract worth $100 million over five years. If that wasn't enough, it just so happens that $60 million of that is guaranteed. Clearly, the Cowboys wanted to make sure their offensive weapon was secured.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Washington Redskins were looking to swoop in an steal Cooper but the wide receiver had a preference for Dallas. Not to mention, it's hard to turn down $100 million regardless of what city you are playing for. Now, the Cowboys can shift their attention to Prescott who will be much harder to sign.
