At the trade deadline this season, the Golden State Warriors dealt D’Angelo Russell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins had some frustrating years in Minnesota and it was clear that he needed a fresh start. The Canadian was coming to a team that needed some offense without Klay Thompson and Steph Curry in the lineup and that’s exactly what he was able to provide. Now, there is speculation as to what will happen to Wiggins next.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Warriors are actually very impressed with Wiggins and want him to be a starter next season. Essentially, all signs point to Wiggins being the starting small forward on the Warriors next season.

“But, ask anyone in the organization — during their private or public moments — they got Wiggins with the expectation that he’ll be their starting small forward next season, not just a matching contract to flip (like they did with [D’Angelo] Russell),” Slater wrote. “They are aggressive but rational.”

Wiggins might not be the star he was projected to be but he can still add some offense to any lineup and moving forward, his output will be crucial to the success of his new team. Hopefully, for him, he is able to deliver.

Andrew Wiggins was dealt to the Golden State Warriors during the trade deadline and has been playing on a struggling ship ever since. Once everyone on the Warriors comes back healthy, Wiggins is expected to take more of a suppressed role but for now, he's one of their top scoring options. Luckily for the young Canadian, he was given some help last night as his Warriors took on the Toronto Raptors. Yes, that's right, Steph Curry was back in the lineup.

This was the first time Wiggins and Curry got to play together and it worked out quite well, despite the loss. At one point, Wiggins was fed a gorgeous dime by Curry and the play ended up making its way to social media. After the game, Wiggins gave his thoughts on playing with the Warriors superstar.

Reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo still has two years left on his four-year, $100 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, but he is expected to receive a staggering five-year, $247 million supermax contract offer this summer. Should Giannis sign on the dotted line, speculation about the Greek Freak's future will obviously subside. Until then, however, rumors will continue to swirl about his departure from Milwaukee and which teams have a realistic shot at either pulling off a blockbuster trade or signing him as a free agent in the summer of 2021.

According to a recent report from Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, some folks around the NBA believe the Golden State Warriors have already set themselves up for a scenario in which Giannis doesn't sign that lucrative supermax contract.

According to the report, the belief is that Golden State set out to acquire a future first-round pick from the Timberwolves in hopes that they could use that pick, as well as Andrew Wiggins, as part of a trade package for Giannis in the event that he informs the Bucks he will not re-sign.

Pincus writes, “Some around the league believe the Golden State Warriors acquired a first-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with Andrew Wiggins, with the notion of a potential future trade with the Bucks.”

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, surrounding Giannis with the Splash Brothers would be an absolute dream scenario for Warriors fans and a total nightmare for every other team in the league. Of course, the Warriors aren't the only team positioning themselves to make a run at Giannis, in what could become the biggest superstar hunt in league history.

When the Golden State Warriors agreed to acquire Andrew Wiggins in exchange for D'Angelo Russell, basketball fans were quick to envision a disastrous relationship between Wiggins and Draymond Green. However, Green has been nothing but complimentary of Wiggins - at least, so far.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Green defended the 24-year old forward, saying he's "not a fucking bum."

“It’s not like we gotta take his hand and walk him through. This guy’s averaged 20 points in this league for three, four years. It’s not a fucking bum we’re talking about. I’m not gonna sit here and act like we found some diamond in the rough.”

During the trade deadline, Andrew Wiggins was traded to the Golden State Warriors as the Minnesota Timberwolves got D’Angelo Russell in return. Fans were concerned about how Wiggins would fit in with the squad but so far, it seems like the coaches are loving his presence. It was assumed that Wiggins would be taking a more complementary role and so far, that’s exactly what’s happened. As some of the coaches recently explained, Wiggins has been a perfect fit and they already feel like the team has improved.

“We’re having more fun,” a Warriors coach said according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “The puzzle now fits.”

Meanwhile, head coach Steve Kerr echoed those sentiments noting just how much he loves working with Wiggins and how he fits their rotations a lot better.

“We’ve been able to plug him in on the opponent’s best player,” Kerr said. “That alone just allows us to set up our defense better. Because of his size and length, you can put him on the opponent’s best guy and match up from there.”

For now, Wiggins will have to pick up the slack as both Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are out with injuries. Once they come back, Wiggins will be able to assume that complementary role and completely rebrand his career.

Steve Kerr believes D'Angelo Russell's fit in Golden State was questionable from the beginning.

Andrew Wiggins has had an interesting start to his career although it hasn’t always been positive. Wiggins was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers and was eventually traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves where they needed him to be a superstar right out of the gate. Unfortunately for Wiggins and Minnesota, things didn’t turn out that way and yesterday, they traded him to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for D’Angelo Russell.

During a recent interview, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke about Wiggins’ addition to the team and how he’s going to fit in. As Kerr explains, the Warriors already have superstars on their team and won’t need to thrust Wiggins into the spotlight. Kerr believes this will allow him to develop like a normal player.

“Draymond [Green] will definitely be in his ear, in a positive way and in a motivational way as well,” Kerr said  KNBR. “Minnesota needed him to be a star. And we’re not asking him to be a star. We’re asking him to play a role on a team that already has some star players.”

The Warriors are currently last place in the Western Conference so for now, they’re going to need a bit more out of him. Once Steph Curry and Klay Thompson return, it’s very possible we see him blossom as a serviceable role player who can give you some offense when called upon.

Yesterday, the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves participated in a blockbuster trade that sent D’Angelo Russell to Minnesota in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. If you were to ask most people around the NBA, they would tell you D-Lo is a much better player than Wiggins. However, it’s clear the Warriors couldn’t keep Russell’s contract and wanted someone who would fit into their system once Steph Curry and Klay Thompson come back.

According to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, the Warriors were eager to trade D-Lo and they didn’t seem to mind what they got in return. In fact, as Thompson describes, Russell didn’t fit in with the team and executives around the club were trying to get rid of him sooner than later.

Per The Athletic:

“Take that as an indictment on Russell, if you want. It doesn’t seem like he did much to instill confidence. He didn’t play defense and disappeared when off the ball. He didn’t instill confidence in the leaders of the franchise that he would figure it out. But it should also be seen as a failure by the Warriors.”

“They championed him. They said they wanted him as part of their core. And before they even got to see him with their core, they walked away. Which means, at minimum, they completely miscalculated Russell’s fit. It’s early, and you never know how these things turn out. But the Russell experiment must have gone so poorly that the Warriors look like they might have been the ones to blink first in a negotiation with Minnesota.”

Russell will be joining a Timberwolves team that is currently on a 13-game losing streak. Despite this, he will also be joining his good friend Karl-Anthony Towns, so we’re sure there will be some palpable chemistry between the two.

After weeks of rumors and speculation, the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves have finally reached a deal centered around D'Angelo Russell and Andrew Wiggins. As first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors are sending Russell to Minnesota in exchange for Wiggins, as well as a Top-3 protected 2021 first-round pick and an unprotected second-rounder in 2021.
