On Monday night a heartbreaking video surfaced of former NBA player Delonte West being beaten and questioned by police in Washington D.C. TMZ Sports delivered new details about the incident on Tuesday, revealing that West reportedly initiated the fight by attacking a man with a glass bottle.
According to Prince George's County Police Department, the altercation took place at approximately 9:45 am on January 20th. West and the other man reportedly knew each other and had been involved in an argument before the events captured on camera.
Per TMZ Sports:
"[The witness] told officers that she observed the handcuffed male [West] first hit the other with a glass bottle and that man responded by striking the one who had thrown the bottle several times," cops say.
In the aftermath of the disturbing video, West has received an outpouring of support from his former teammates and coaches, as well as fans and media members alike. The NBA has also offered to assist West and his family in any way, as it has become abundantly clear that the 36-year old is in desperate need of help.
West spent three seasons at St. Joseph's before making the leap to the NBA in 2004. He was selected 24th overall by the Boston Celtics and also spent time with the Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks. West has been seen looking disheveled and homeless multiple times across Maryland and Texas since retiring from the league, but nothing quite as disturbing as the video that surfaced this week.
Former Saint Joseph's head coach, Phil Martelli, was among those who vowed to help West get back on track.
Chris Paul Explains How The Rockets Lied To Him About OKC Trade
The NBA is a cut-throat business.
Back in the summer, Chris Paul was traded from the Houston Rockets to the Oklahoma City Thunder in what was a shocking deal. Fans had an inkling that the Rockets would trade Paul but they didn’t think it would be to the Thunder in exchange for Russell Westbrook. Paul has admitted to being shocked by that deal although for now, he is making the best of his situation in OKC.
In a recent article from Sports Illustrated, Paul spoke about his trade from the Rockets and how it ultimately surprised him. Paul says he felt sort of lied to as Rockets general manager Daryl Morey told him he wouldn’t be going anywhere near OKC.

“After the season I reached out to the [Rockets] and said, ‘Hey, if you guys want to go in a different direction, let us know now. That way we can figure something out,’” Paul said. “They said we’re not trying to go in a different direction. [Morey] asked me if I wanted to go to Oklahoma City. I said no, and he said, ‘We won’t trade you there, because you chose to come to us from L.A.’ He doesn’t owe me anything, but that’s where the whole communication thing was.”
At the end of the day, sports are a cut-throat business and players’ feelings aren’t always taken into account. No matter how much of yourself you give to a team, there will always be a chance you get dealt very far away.
Charles Barkley Completely Butchers Steph Curry & Klay Thompson’s Names
Classic Chuck.
Charles Barkley is one of the most entertaining former NBA players on television right now. Barkley is constantly making us laugh with his antics that are always getting a rise out of Shaq and his other co-hosts. In fact, Inside The NBA has quickly become one of the best halftime shows in sports. One of the things that makes Barkley so funny is how bad he is at pronouncing names. Whether it's Giannis Antetokounmpo or some of the other European players, you can always count on Chuck to get the names wrong.
On Monday, Barkley messed up another set of names as he was talking about the Golden State Warriors. The former 76ers star called Steph Curry and Klay Thompson "Stay and Kleph" which is a complete swap of the first letters of their names. Barkley wasn't able to catch himself in the act although Ernie Johnson made sure to remind him of his mistake.
Barkley's mistake immediately made its way to social media where he was ridiculed for the error. In the grand scheme of things, it's truly not that big of a deal. Minor mistakes are pointed out all the time, trust me, writers know that feeling.
Hopefully, Barkley can find it within himself to bounce back next broadcast.
LaVar Ball Reveals Which Team He Wants To Draft LaMelo
LaVar envisions LaMelo saving the Knicks.
If LaVar Ball gets his wish, his youngest son, LaMelo, will be playing his home games at Madison Square Garden for the foreseeable future.
During a recent "TMZ Roundtable" discussion with Master P and Metta World Peace, the Ball Father reiterated that he thinks LaMelo will go No. 1 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft and he's hoping the New York Knicks will be there to select him. Furthermore, LaVar's dream scenario includes Mark Jackson taking over as Knicks head coach and all three of his season wearing the orange and blue one day. Of course.
This isn't the first time that the Ball family has teased Knicks fans with interest in the franchise. At the start of the season, the 18-year old guard posted some photos of his NBA 2K MyPlayer on the Knicks along with lyrics from "Rebel's Kick It," specifically, "Sending God my wishes, still got some pending, yeah."
LaMelo recently suffered a foot injury and has therefore decided to shut it down for the remainder of the season rather than risk further injuring himself ahead of the draft in June. In 13 games with the NBL's Illawarra Hawks, Ball averaged 17 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
The Knicks (12-32) are currently tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the third worst record in the NBA, and if the season ended today (it does not) they'd have a 50% chance of landing a Top 4 pick. Most mock drafts have Ball going within the Top 3.
Young Fan Who Threw Orange Peel At LeBron James Jr. Apologizes: Watch
The kid who allegedly threw an orange peel at Bronny issues apology on YouTube.
LeBron James Jr. is just a freshman at Sierra Canyon High School but he has already become one of the most recognizable young basketball players on the planet. Being in the spotlight at such a young age, as his father LeBron James knows all too well, comes with swarms of fans and supporters as well as hecklers and haters.
During Monday's game at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, a fan in attendance threw what appeared to be a piece of food or trash at Bronny as he was inbounding the ball. Apparently, the culprit was a young boy who issued this apology on YouTube last night.
The description for that video reads:
"I’m sorry @james family for what I did , I’m a huge fan and I was just trying to get bronnys attention I didn’t want to hurt anyone, I was actually there at Springfield college during hoophall I’m not lying or trying to “get clout “ I was in the front area seats the people around me were not my parents my parents were sitting a couple seats away because I wanted to sit closer
I was calling out bronnys name and just wanted him to see me the security never threw me out they never knew it was me but my mom still took me home we knew I was wrong and it not a good thing to do , believe me or not I want to send out an apology to bronny because me and my family discussed it and knew it was the right thing to do"
Video footage of the incident quickly circulated on twitter, prompting the following response from LeBron himself, "Hating has no age limit! #JamesGang is build for it and well equipped. As we proceed."
Russell Westbrook Speaks Out After Rockets’ Fourth-Straight Loss
The Rockets gave up a big lead in the fourth quarter.
This season was quite promising for the Houston Rockets as they started out with a reunion between James Harden and Russell Westbrook. The team has shown some flashes of brilliance but they have also been underwhelming at times. Yesterday was a prime example of this as they gave up a huge lead to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Westbrook came through with a triple-double although Harden went a staggering 1-17 from the three-point line.
After the game, Westbrook spoke to reporters about the loss. This is the fourth game in a row the Rockets have lost now and it's starting to affect them in the standings. They have fallen to sixth in the Conference and could be overtaken by the Thunder quite soon.
“Honestly, I thought we played a pretty good game. We played a good game for the most part," Westbrook said. "Obviously the last 6 minutes we didn’t play our best basketball, but I thought we had pretty much control of the game. There’s some good we can take out of this game.”
If the Rockets want to get out of this slump, they're going to need much better shooting from the likes of Harden. The team is struggling immensely and if they don't get a win soon, this losing streak could get out of control.
Kemba Walker Snaps 0-28 Streak vs LeBron: ‘Happy I Got One Before He Goes’
29th time is the charm.
It took 29 tries, but Kemba Walker has finally tasted victory against LeBron James. The Boston Celtics didn't leave any doubt on Monday night as they pummelled the Los Angeles Lakers en route to a 32-point victory, marking the end of Walker's 28-game winless streak against the four-time MVP.
"I'm happy I got one at least, before he goes," Walker said following Boston's 139-107 win. "Who knows how long he can play, because he's just incredible. But you know, it's only one. One and 28."
Walker, who finished with 20 points, seven assists and four rebounds, praised LeBron after the win.
“I have the utmost respect for LeBron and, you know, he’s one of the greatest players of all time,” Walker said, per Boston.com. “ If there’s (a guy) I couldn’t beat, it’d be him. He’s such a great player and has done so much in this league. He’s been so far. It just feels good to win.”
"If anybody: him. The guy I couldn't beat, it'd be him. He's such a great player, he's done so much in this league," said Walker, per ESPN. "He's beaten a lot of guys. I bet you there's a lot of people who don't have a winning record against LeBron James."

Damian Lillard Reacts To His Career-High 61-Point Game: Watch
Damian Lillard had a field day against the Warriors.
There are some players in the NBA who can take over a game almost at will. Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers is one of those players. On Monday night, Lillard led his team to a 129-124 victory over the bottom-dwelling Golden State Warriors. This was a huge game for the Blazers as they have been struggling quite a bit as of late. Lillard's team was down for most of the game although he was able to score a career-high 61 points to secure the victory.
Lillard's statline was quite impressive as he also finished with 10 rebounds and 7 assists. His point total was a record for any Blazers player although he had the previous record so it only makes sense that he would top himself.
After the game, Lillard spoke to TNT about the win and how his performance was necessary for the team to get the win. Had Lillard not gone off like that, it's clear as day that the Warriors would have won.
“It was an opportunity to have a new career-high and to make right for the one where I missed the free throws a couple years ago,” Lillard said. “Just clinching the game, I felt like I had a great performance in a game that we needed to win, which is the most important thing.”
With the win, the Blazers are now 10th in the Western Conference with a record of 19-26.
Jaylen Brown Posterizes LeBron James: NBA Twitter Reacts
"I ain't going to lie, that was pretty nice, pretty awesome."
There are few people in the world who can say they have dunked on LeBron James and lived to tell about it. And two of them play for the Boston Celtics.
During Monday night's blowout victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, Celtics swingman Jaylen Brown took flight over the #WashedKing for an emphatic two-handed stuff. As seen in the footage embedded below, Brown was also hit with a technical for hanging on the rim and staring LeBron down - the cherry on top of his posterizing finish.
Following Boston's 139-107 win at the TD Garden, Brown spoke candidly about how 'awesome' it was to get one on LeBron.
"I ain't going to lie, that was pretty nice, pretty awesome," Brown said, per ESPN. "LeBron, he's gotten so many other guys. Just to be out there against one of the best players to ever play the game is an honor. I always like like that matchup and it gives me a little extra boost."
James took it all in stride.
"Why would I take it personally? It's part of basketball," he said, per ESPN. "It's not the first time I got dunked on. It might not be the last time I get dunked on. But Jaylen's been playing exceptionally well this year. It was a good play."

It's well-documented that West has suffered from mental illness and has been trying to get help for a while. What has been happening with West is truly sad and heartbreaking for those who have both watched and played with him.

These clips were quite disturbing and eventually led to a call for action on social media. Now, people close to the sports community are rallying around West to see if they can get him some help.
It's unclear as to what can be done for West although many are hoping he can find peace and get back to being himself. You never want to see another human being become so vulnerable, especially when they used to have it all.
