As Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put it, we're not dealing with a case of a few bad apples or incidents. There needs to be a complete reform of the police system. This is an institutional and systemic crisis.
As we continue to report on shocking happenings across the country during the protests, another instance stands out as New York police officers were seen on video, beating a cyclist with a baton before more cops pulled up to strike him even harder.
"Horrifying. You start with the tiny possibility that two officers may be walking over to deescalate the abusive one. Instead, they join in beating a man trying to get out of traffic," wrote AOC on Twitter, sharing the video.
The lead-up to the violent moment was not shown in the short video, but the beating appears to be unjustified. From the looks of things, the cyclist was just trying to get away from the police officer and presumably head home when he started striking him. As previously mentioned, two more cops joined in with their batons.
This is just one of the many incidents we've showcased, showing what's really happening on the frontlines. Continue to get out and protest. Make your voice heard.
