Suicide Squad writer and director, David Ayer, took the time to interact with some fans over Twitter earlier this week about how misunderstood the character of the Joker, portrayed by Jared Leto, was in the 2016 DCEU film. Despite the immense hype that surrounded the super-villain centred movie prior to its release, Suicide Squad proved to be a widespread disappointment, with many diehard fans and newcomers alike regarding Jared's depiction of the Joker as particularly awful. Although he did have some large shoes to fill—most notably the late Heath Ledger's in 2008's The Dark Knight—his performance was still less than impressive, with some even deeming it the worst onscreen portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime in history.

However, Ayer certainly doesn't feel that way. In fact, he sympathizes with Jared to this day due to how much work he put into the character, only for it to be criticized so heavily. The filmmaker responded to a fan's explanation of why the Joker's notoriously mocked "Damaged" tattoo across his forehead was actually "ingenious" given the back story.
"I think the damaged tattoo is actually pretty ingenious, but only for those who understand," the fan tweeted. "Joker got the tattoo because batman damaged his smile in a failed attempt at revenge for killing Robin. All with the intent to antagonize and infuriate Batman simply by seeing his face." Ayer replied that that was "exactly" right, but another fan was less than satisfied with this. "Sorry David. If that was indeed the explanation, it was your job to clearly convey that to your audience during the film," they replied. "Not on a twitter feed years later. Leto was done a disservice by omitting that story point, as I’m sure every acting choice he made was informed by that."
Ayer jokingly replied, "I am shame" to the semi-sarcastic tweet, before responding to another fan who chimed in on the Joker discourse.
"Despite how much some DCEU fans love Jared's Joker, he was too creepy for compassion, and his look didn't convince everyone like Batfleck did, appearances matter," the fan tweeted. "David, you're dealing with nerds who dislike Henry's Superman because he doesn't wear the trunk, you know that right?" Ayer acknowledged the fan's concerns, responding, "For sure character creation is a tightrope. I took inspiration from the current DC comics."

"I find it incredible it’s still such a topic 5 years later," he continued. "My heart breaks for Jared - he did magnificent work. Most of it remains unseen." Ultimately, it looks like the biggest issue with Jared's Joker was that the character didn't receive enough screen time in the final cut. What are your thoughts on this years-long debate?
Director Of “Jurassic World 3” Reveals Film’s New Title
Jurassic World 3 will be named "Dominion" according to the film's director.
Jurassic World 3 director Colin Trevorrow just announced the title of the third installment of the JP franchise called Jurassic World: Dominion. Announced on Twitter this week, Trevorrow revealed the film’s title (Dominion) along with a photo of the crew on set starting to film.
The Dominion title, which appears on the slate for the film in Trevorrow’s tweet, evokes the biblical passage about God giving humanity dominion over the earth, a nod to the fact that “Dominion” is expected to depict the aftermath from 2018’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” when dinosaurs escaped captivity and into the rest of the world.

New "Star Wars" Movie Reportedly In The Works
A new “Stars Wars” film is reportedly in development from “Sleight” director, J.D. Dillard, and “Luke Cage” writer, Matt Owens.
The “Star Wars” franchise is ever-expanding, and it has been reported that “Sleight” writer-director, J.D. Dillard, and “Luke Cage” writer, Matt Owens, have been tapped to create a new cinematic story taking place in the beloved sci-fi universe. The Hollywood Reporter indicates that a new Star Wars feature film is already in the early stages of development, and that Dillard and Owens are on board. While little information is available at the moment, the film reportedly has no correlation with separate Star Wars projects pitched by The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson, Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige, or JoJo Rabbit director, Taika Waititi.

Plot and character details are also scarce, although it has been reported that the events of the film will take place on the hidden Sith planet of Exegol, which was introduced in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. While it is said to be a feature film, it has not yet been decided whether the movie will have a theatrical release or premiere on the “highly prioritized” Disney+ streaming platform. Disney CEO, Bob Iger, has been vocal about prioritizing small screen development for the Star Wars franchise, largely due to the success of The Mandalorian. Iger has called the series, which premiered on Disney+ last year, “a bona fide hit and a cultural phenomenon, and revealed that there are already “a few Star Wars series in varying stages of production and development.”
"Suicide Squad" Director, David Ayer Remains Apologetic For Yelling "F*ck Marvel" Years Ago
David Ayer is on yet another apology tour.
David Ayer has had his hand in the making of some of the most culturally relevant cinema over the past couple of decades. Ayer wrote Training Day (2001), co-wrote The Fast & The Furious (2001), and directed Netflix's Bright (2017) starring Will Smith. The multifaceted director also provided his services directing DC Universe film, Suicide Squad (2016). Back during the opening weeks of the movie, in a moment of passion Ayer screamed, "f*ck Marvel" after someone in the audience of a Suicide Squad event yelled the insult at a premiere event.
In an interview with Comic Book, in 2016, Ayer had expressed his instant regret stating he was "caught up in the moment" and revealed that he has nothing but "respect for (his) brother filmmakers." However, public apologies tend to get missed on Twitter when a user confronted Ayer about the incident once again Tweeting, "Funny cuz durimg press for ypur movie you screamed "F*CK MARVEL."
David Ayer's attempt to show unity with fellow moviemaker, James Gunn, who is set to direct Suicide Squad 2, turned into a full-blown apology tour for the Fury director as he responded to multiple accounts revealing how apologetic he was for blurting out the Marvel-dissing phrase. Ayer responded to his critic in Spanish stating:
"Si y me arrepentí al inmediato. Pedí disculpas y tuve un lindo intercambio con Stan Lee. Que más puedo hacer? Todos los pecados son perdonables no?" Which in English means:
"Yes and I immediately regretted it. I apologized and had a nice exchange with Stan Lee. What else can I do? All sins are forgivable, right?"
David Ayer went on to follow up the Tweet claiming his statement was unprofessional again. With David Ayer currently preparing to direct the Shia LaBeouf-starring film, The Tax Collector, as well as a sequel to the Bright, he's got a busy schedule ahead of him. And with the Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Harley Quinn spin-off set to be in theatres on Feb. 6, and Marvel continuing their box office reign, there's enough room for both comic book universes to thrive.

Taika Waititi Is In Talks To Get His Own "Star Wars" Movie
Taika Waititi is in demand right now.
Taika Waititi is one of the most sought after directors right now. He was launched into pop culture fame after directing Thor: Ragnarok, which retooled the franchise and thrust Thor into the spotlight after two lackluster previous films. Then, Waititi directed JoJo Rabbit, which was earned critical acclaim and several award nominations. Now, it’s being reported that Waititi may get his own Star Wars film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waititi has been approached about helming a film in the galaxy far, far away. It is unclear if this new film will be the same Star Wars movie that Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige will be working on, but it would make sense. Feige and Waititi worked together on Ragnarok, and Feige’s vision for the future of Star Wars will undoubtedly have him guiding an expanded universe in the same way he did with the MCU. Waititi directed the final episode of The Mandalorian, the Disney+ hit that spawned The Child, or Baby Yoda as the internet has dubbed him. He also voiced the beloved droid character IG-11, who turns from a villain into The Child’s guardian in the final episode. What do you think about Waititi getting his own Star Wars film?
Terry Gilliam Says White Men Are "Blamed For Everything Wrong With The World"
Gilliam is back to spew more controversy.
In a recent interview with The Independent, famed director Terry Gilliam made controversial comments about the #MeToo movement and more.
"Yeah, I said #MeToo is a witch hunt," Gilliam tells the publication. "I really feel like there were a lot of people, decent people, or mildly irritating people, who were getting hammered. That's wrong. I don't like mob mentality. These were ambitious adults."
Later, Gilliam tells the story of a "well-known actress" who tried to land a role in one of Gilliam's films. "'What do I have to do to get in your film, Terry?'" Gilliam says. "I don't understand why people behave as if this hasn't been going on as long as there have been powerful people. I understand that men have had more power longer, but I'm tired, as a white male, for being blamed for everything that is wrong with the world."
These most recent comments come just weeks after Gilliam told IndieWire that he thinks Black Panther is "utter bullshit." He also added, "I think the people who made it have never been to Africa. They went and got some stylist for some African pattern fabrics and things. But I just I hated that movie, partly because the media were going on about the importance of bullshit."
The interviews were done to promote Gilliam's newest film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.
