Patrick Beverley is one of the most ruthless trash-talkers in the entire NBA so it shouldn't be that much of a surprise that he brings that exact same energy when it comes to gaming. Beverley is actually participating in the NBA 2K Players-Only tournament which is being put on by the NBA and ESPN. Last night was the first full slate of games and Beverley got to take on Hassan Whiteside of the Portland Trail Blazers.
In the end, Beverley came away with a devastating 85-54 victory as he played with the Milwaukee Bucks and Whiteside used the Los Angeles Lakers. As you can see from the clip below, Beverley came through with quite a bit of trash talk and was relentless every time he scored a bucket. All Whiteside could do was laugh but there was certainly some envy deep down inside of him.
All of the players were ranked based on their 2K ratings which meant Whiteside was a third seed and Beverley a 14th. Considering these ranks aren't based on actual video game skill, this upset shouldn't come as a surprise. For instance, Derrick Jones Jr. beat Kevin Durant despite the latter being the first seed of the whole tournament.
It remains to be seen who Beverley will play next so stay tuned for updates as we will be sure to bring them to you.
Kevin Durant Upset Early In NBA 2K Tournament: Results & Scores
The NBA 2K Players Only tournament saw quite a few upsets in Round 1.
NBA players have nothing else to do right now so as a way to supplement their inability to play basketball, the good people at Take-Two Interactive put on a tournament in collaboration with ESPN and the NBA. Sixteen NBA players were selected to be a part of an NBA 2K20 tournament that will be broadcast on National Television. In fact, the first four matchups were on TV last night and the entire event lasted just over three hours.
The four matchups included Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Jones Jr, Tray Young vs. Harrison Barnes, Zach Lavine vs Deandre Ayton, and Hassan Whiteside vs Patrick Beverley. Thanks to his overall rating, Durant was the number one seed but he ended up being upset by Jones, who beat him 78-62.
Some of the other results include Ayton defeating Lavine, 57-41, Young destroying Barnes, 101-59, and Patrick Beverley blowing out Whiteside, 84-54. On Sunday, there will be four more matchups as Donovan Mitchell takes on Rui Hachimura, Devin Booker battles Michael Portis Jr, Andre Drummond goes head to head with DeMarcus Cousins, and finally, Montrezl Harris will duke it out with Domantas Sabonis.
The tournament has already been a whole lot of fun and we can't wait to see what else comes from it, further on the down the line.
Who do you think is going to win?
Blazers’ Rumored Kevin Love Trade Proposal Revealed
The Cavaliers’ asking price was fairly high.
Numerous NBA teams were busy at the trade deadline this year as they were looking for ways to improve while also offloading some of their worst contracts. One of the teams that had a chance to make a splash was the Cleveland Cavaliers who were thinking of moving the likes of Kevin Love. Love has one of the heftiest contracts in the league and it’s clear he isn’t too interested in being in Cleveland anymore.
According to reports, the Portland Trail Blazers offered the Cavaliers Kent Bazemore and Hassan Whiteside but the Cavs weren’t interested. In fact, the struggling squad was looking for a first-round pick but there wasn’t a single team that wanted to make that move. This is why Love was never dealt, in the end.

Per Jason Lloyd of The Athletic:
“The only one that I know definitely equated to just a salary dump. Portland offered Bazemore and Whiteside, which essentially would’ve matched Kevin’s salary. But both of those are expiring contracts and the Cavs would’ve received no real assets in return. Portland eventually sent Bazemore to Sacramento.
Most teams were telling the Cavs they’d need to include assets just to get them to take Kevin’s contract. The Cavs were asking for a first-round pick. No one even came close to that. I’d expect them to resume trade talks on Kevin this summer.”
Both the Cavaliers and Blazers are on pace to miss the playoffs this season. Had the Blazers acquired Love, their chances certainly would have gone up. Unfortunately, they may very well have to wait until next year to make a run.
