Kehlani delivered her new album, It Was Good Until It Wasn't, at midnight on Friday (May 8th), and it's safe to say that the songstress really bares her soul on this new batch of music. After initially delaying the new project as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Kehlani realized that her fans really needed some new tunes from her, so she said f*ck it, and decided to drop it anyway. After dropping a string of singles off the album, the singer announced late last month that IWGUIW would be arriving May 8th, and now that the day is finally here, fans are speculating that the unlucky muse for the deeply personal body of work is her ex-boyfriend, YG.

Kehlani and YG were quite publicly boo'd up for a few months before officially calling it quits back in February, with rumours flying that his alleged cheating had caused the split. As you may remember, the former couple dropped their lovey-dovey collab "Konclusions" on Valentine's Day this year, just days before Kehlani followed up with a solo track, “Valentine’s Day (Shameful),” seemingly calling out YG for his wretched behaviour. There were already whispers that Kehlani wrote some of the singles off IWGUIW, especially "Toxic," about their messy split, but now that we've been blessed with it in its entirety, fans have no doubts that this new album is all about YG.

Drake Fights Back Kehlani Headline
Drake responds to reports that he helped Kehlani with her new album title, suggesting a new headline for the story.
Prior to the release of Kehlani‘s new album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, it was revealed that she had consulted with one of the biggest music stars in the world to come up with the title.
Working with Drake, Kehlani settled upon the official title for her new album, which is being celebrated across social media platforms. People are excited about the singer’s progression as an artist, claiming that this is one of her most complete bodies of work yet. Drake even congratulated her on the release, also taking time to address the story that he assisted her with the title.
Posting one of the headlines to Instagram Stories, Drake said:
“Nah why is this the headline tho,” wrote Drake. For context, the headline used was “Kehlani Explains How Drake Helped Her Name Upcoming Album.”

He continued:
“Anyways your album is incredibke the headline should be ‘Kehlani drops a life soundtrack’ congrats @kehlani @boi1da BLESSINGS!!”
Clearly, Drake isn’t interested in taking credit for this. He would rather play it coy and be humble rather than steal another artist’s moment in the spotlight, which is honestly commendable.

Drake Actually Helped Kehlani Name Her New Album
Kehlani revealed that Drake actually helped her come up with the name for her new album, “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.”
It turns out that Kehlani owes Drake huge for coming up with the unique title for her new album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. The R&B songstress is prepping to drop the new project on Friday (May 8th), but in the meantime, she’s giving credit where credit is due. During an interview for the inaugural episode of Apple Music’s new R&B Now Radio, Kehlani opened up about the process of making the album, including how she came up with the title—or, better yet, how she and Drake came up with it. On the last day of her trip to Canada where she was busy finishing off the album with Boi-1da, the singer paid a visit to the 6 God’s Toronto mansion.

During the visit, Kehlani and Drake were simply having a “life conversation” and reminiscing on their old music, when the former described her personal life using the phrase. “I was just like, ‘Man, yeah, it was good until it wasn’t,'” she recalls. “And he was like, ‘Say that shit again.’”

“He was like, ‘That’s your album,'” Kehlani continues. “And I was like, ‘You might be f*cking right,’ because that just summed up everything when I try to have this really long-winded explanation to you about the project…So shout out to that guy for catching that one, ’cause that would’ve been just something that I said.” It Was Good Until It Wasn’t drops tonight at midnight, with features from Tory Lanez, Jhené Aiko, James Blake, Lucky Daye, and more. Kehlani’s full interview on R&B Now Radio airs Friday at 11:00am EST on Apple Music.

Romeo Miller Wishes Kehlani Happy Birthday & Fans Can’t Handle It
Romeo Miller just wanted to send well-wishes to his friend Kehlani for her birthday, but fans couldn’t help but hope for a romance.
An innocent birthday message has fans vying for Romeo Miller and Kehlani to become the next “it” couple. Three days ago, R&B singer Kehlani celebrated her 25th birthday along with the news of the release of her forthcoming album, It Was Good Until it Wasn’t. “You’re officially older than your dad who passed at 24.. so this one feels different, this year is personal,” Kehlani wrote to herself in an Instagram caption. “You experienced a lot of loss last year and kept on loving. you are kind, you are very resilient, you are warm when you’ve been given reason after reason to be cold. you’re a great mom, friend, lover. a great student, and great teacher. i’m so grateful we are still alive.”
Over on his page, Romeo Miller shared a photo of himself with Kehlani along with a sweet birthday note. “Catch (red-eye) flights, not feelings ha,” he penned in the caption. “But more life and more blessings @kehlani! You are a treasure, God got big plans for you. 5/8 it’s up. ♉️?.” The singer commented to her friend’s kind words by responding, “This picture is hilarious because you’d swear we caught this plane TOGETHER ? still such an epic coincidental serendipitous night. appreciate you!!!”
Romeo replied, “Yea like something out of a movie, God is funny that way tho ha. We’ll have good stories for the grandkids.” Now, Romeo never said that they were having grandkids together, but fans were quick to speculate that something may be going on behind the scenes between these two. However, it all seemed innocent enough as one friend was just encouraging another. Meanwhile, keep an ear out for Kehlani’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, which hits streaming services on May 8.
Kehlani Announces New Album "It Was Good Until It Wasn’t"
Kehlani is gearing up to drop her brand new album “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t,” taking to Instagram to unveil the release date and cover.
Sometimes an album title makes you stop what you’re doing and say “true,” and such is the case for Kehlani‘s recently announced project It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. Taking to Instagram to drop the news, Kehlani confirmed that her brand new project would be hitting digital streaming platforms on May 8th, complete with a seductive and summer-longing album cover.

At this moment, Kehlani has yet to unveil anything further about the upcoming project, though it stands to reason we’ll be seeing a few of her recent singles make the final cut. That includes the simmering, red-wine fuelled self-shot visuals for “Toxic,” as well as her most recent single “Everybody Business.” Given the presence of that good old faithful parental advisory sticker, it stands to reason that we’ll be seeing some grown-woman-shit from the singer — and given the success of “Toxic” and its video, it’s unlikely that many complaints will be vocalized.
Be sure to check out the full album cover below, and sound off in the comments — are you excited to see a brand new full-length album from Kehlani? Keep a watchful eye out for any upcoming singles, as well as the inevitable tracklist to surface in the near future. It Was Good Until It Wasn’t hits May 8th.
