Jalen Rose has been one of the most outspoken sports analysts on TV over the last few years and when it comes to political matters, he isn't shy to voice his opinion. Recently, America has endured a lot of pain due to the police killing of George Floyd. Floyd was choked to death on camera and the police officer, Derek Chauvin has been arrested.
Today on ESPN's Get Up!, Rose spoke about police brutality and the injustice that black people face on a daily basis. His statement was extremely powerful and poignant as he noted that many white people see people of color as a source of entertainment and culture, but not as real human beings.
"I wish America loved black people just as much as they love black culture," Rose said. "There's so many times that it gets cherry-picked and it gets piggybacked but only when it's convenient and sometimes it happens in entertainment and athletics. We're not here designed only to entertain.
"We're actually living and breathing human beings that have a multitude of intelligence, work ethic, discipline and talent. We've overcome a lot just like so many other races."
LeBron James reacted to Rose's speech on Twitter as he agreed with the former NBA star's sentiment. You can't help but feel Rose's pain when he speaks here and we hope his message resonates with those who have remained silent on the tough issues in our society.
Reggie Miller Wasn’t Thrilled About Doing "The Last Dance"
Reggie Miller had a lot of history with Michael Jordan.
Michael Jordan has been a huge topic of conversation as of late thanks to the ESPN documentary "The Last Dance." Every Sunday, two new episodes have aired and they have all been quite good. New information continues to be divulged and unfortunately, last night, the final two episodes made it to air. Now, our Sundays will be reduced to boredom, once again.
During Episode 9, one of the biggest stories was Reggie Miller and how the Indiana Pacers brought the Bulls to seven games in the 1998 Eastern Conference Finals. In the end, the Bulls came out on top, and Miller had to relive it all. As teammate Jalen Rose described during a podcast with director Jason Hehir, Miller originally didn't want to be a part of "The Last Dance" and needed to be convinced to do it. Eventually, he gave in knowing it would be a big moment.
“Interviewing Reggie, as somebody who played with him, I was trying to initially get him to interview for this doc. He didn’t want to do it. It was too much pain,” Rose said.
If you're a Pacers fan, last night wasn't easy but it was even harder for Jazz fans who had to watch MJ beat them in the Finals two years in a row.
Kevin Durant Roasts Jalen Rose Who Claps Back With Skip Bayless Dig
Kevin Durant wanted some answers from Jalen Rose and he got them in the form of a classic troll.
Ever since Michael Jordan's "The Last Dance" began airing on ESPN, there has been some peculiar discourse surrounding the former NBA star. Pundits have been going around saying that Jordan would average close to 50 points if he played in today's era, while others have taken a more conservative, albeit, lofty approach to his stats. For instance, Jalen Rose thinks MJ could average around 40 points per game.
A fan recently asked Kevin Durant want he thinks of these remarks, implying that KD should feel disrespected by them. Durant came with an interesting retort, asking Rose how much he thinks he would average if he played in today's NBA. Instead of being offended, Rose harkened back to his early days at ESPN when he roasted Skip Bayless for his horrendous stat lines. If you're familiar with the clip I'm referencing, then you know that Water Pistol Pete averaged 1.4 points per game.
Many of Rose's fans immediately knew what he was talking about here as they spammed his Twitter comments with gifs and photos of Bayless. Needless to say, it's good to see Rose make fun of himself as opposed to taking everything KD says, seriously.
We can only imagine what other kinds of takes we are going to see as "The Last Dance" progresses.
Jalen Rose Issues Fair Warning To Zion Williamson & The Pelicans
Rose wants to look out for the young star.
Zion Williamson has been a hot topic in the NBA over the past few weeks and it’s all because of the knee injury that has kept him out of the New Orleans Pelicans lineup. The first overall pick in the NBA Draft has some fans worried about his health and whether or not he’ll ever be able to play an 82-game season. Zion has expressed his desire to play and get back onto the court, which is something that can actually happen sooner than later. His injury seems to be progressing and fans are excited.
Former NBA player Jalen Rose is a firm believer that Williamson needs to sit out for the rest of the season. During a recent episode of Jalen & Jacoby, Rose broke down why it’s important to keep Williamson off the court in order to ensure his health.
“You see how he running? He look like a 60-year-old man,” Rose said. “He running like me right now and I’ll be 47 in a couple of weeks. You know old he is? He’s 19-years-old, man. Do not, Pelicans, put Zion Williamson out on the floor in January. If he tells you he’s ready to go, you say, ‘Aight big fella, I appreciate that. Practice for two more weeks and we’ll figure it out.’ “
Fans have been waiting for Williamson’s debut for a while now. If the team were to wait until next season to start him, there would be plenty of upset fans throughout the NBA. Regardless, it’s a decision that must be weighing on the franchise.
