These days, basketball fans can be pretty disrespectful towards the game's biggest legends. The arguments that are made most of the time is that previous generations didn't play defense and that the level of competition was fairly suspect. With this in mind, it shouldn't be surprising that NBA fans dismiss the likes of Jerry West, who is literally the silhouette of the NBA logo.
In light of "The Last Dance," there has been plenty of discourse surrounding some of the NBA's biggest legends and how they would hold up in today's NBA. Recently, SLAM Magazine asked whether or not West would be effective in the league, and LeBron immediately took notice. In the tweet below, LeBron gave his prediction as to how many points and assists West would be averaging.
"Straight Bucket Getter. Also could pass the hell out of it too. I mean he could play off the ball(c&s) and on the ball(pull ups), get to the basket and make free-throws. I’d say 24-27PPG/8assist," LeBron said.
Not everyone agreed with the Lakers superstar although you have to hand it to LeBron for giving some props to one of the game's biggest pioneers. Even if James inflated the stats, at least he is giving props to a legend.
Meek Mill, Usher, & More Support Petition To Change NBA Logo To Kobe Bryant
Several celebrities & artists are in support of NBA changing the logo to honor Kobe Bryant.
There’s a petition circulating online with nearly 2 million signatures to make Kobe the new logo for the NBA. For years (since 1969 to be exact) the NBA logo consisted of the silhouette of basketball great Jerry West, who, like Kobe, played for the Los Angeles Lakers. Well since Kobe tragic passing this weekend, fans and celebrities alike have took to social media to voice their opinion on changing the logo in honor of Kobe.
The Change.org petition, which currently has over 1.7 million signatures from fans, simply reads, “With the untimely and unexpected passing of the great Kobe Bryant please sign this petition in an attempt to immortalize him forever as the new NBA Logo.” The petition offers a mockup of the potential new design that features Bryant’s silhouette.
Celebrities like Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Snoop Dogg, Usher and Justin Bieber have all shown their support for the petition, re-sharing it on their own IG pages.
Usher shared the reimagined NBA logo to Instagram on Monday and wrote, “Couldn’t be a better time or all around athlete and person for it.” He also included the trending hashtag #changethelogo, which was echoed by Bieber in his own tribute post.
Meek Mill redirected his followers to the petition, while 2 Chainz said he wanted to get the Kobe logo tatted on him. Snoop Dogg asked the NBA to do what’s right and change the logo as well.
Now whether or not anything actually changes from the petition remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the people want Kobe immortalized in the game forever. We’ll continue to keep you posted. RIP Kobe.

NBA Legend Jerry West Says Luka Doncic Will Surpass Dirk Nowitzki As Mavs’ Greatest
"I have great respect for Nowitzki, but Dirk is not him.”
The Dallas Mavericks and their fans had the good fortune of watching future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki for over two decades, and they didn't even have to wait one season before their next international superstar, Luka Doncic, arrived. In fact, NBA legend Jerry West believes that Doncic is going to surpass Dirk as the greatest Mavericks player of all-time.
“Look at Dallas,” West said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “One player has transformed them into a playoff team. He will be the best player Dallas has ever had. I have great respect for Nowitzki, but Dirk is not him.”
“Everyone wishes they had a 20-year-old who plays like him, and he hasn’t even scratched the surface. It’s fun to watch genius.”
“I’ve been around a long time,” he added, “and I’ve seen a lot of special players. How many superstars are there in the league at any given time? Maybe five or six. There’s a difference between All-Stars and superstars. A superstar is different, and that’s what he is.”
The Mavericks' 20-year old superstar notched another 30-point triple-double on Tuesday night, as he put up 38 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 118-110 victory over the Chicago Bulls.
According to Elias Sports, Doncic has already recorded 10 30-point triple-doubles this season, which is as many as LeBron James (5), Oscar Robertson (3) and Magic Johnson (2) combined before turning 22 years old. Doncic, who is averaging 29.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 8.9 assists, has also already surpassed Jason Kidd's franchise record for triple-doubles in a season.
