The Weeknd revealed his surprising friendship with Jim Carrey on Wednesday when he thanked the comedian on social media for painting a portrait of him as a 30th birthday gift. The Weeknd recently celebrated his 30th birthday on February 16th, a few days after announcing his upcoming album, After Hours. While hitting the big 3-0 might be scary for some folks, it becomes a little easier to handle if you’re lucky enough to receive some thoughtful gifts.
The Weeknd clearly knows how that feels, as he shared a photo of one such gift from Jim Carrey on Twitter. On Wednesday, the singer showed off the beautiful portrait that Jim painted of him, complete with the number “30” outlined overtop of The Weeknd’s red-shaded face. In the caption, he wrote, “thank you @JimCarrey ! Perfect birthday gift.” Jim has become known for his artistic gifts, in particular his paintings of political figures like Donald Trump. Jim is definitely not a Trump supporter, and he uses his canvas to troll the POTUS by portraying him in a negative light.

Besides hitting this major milestone, The Weeknd is also basking in his new musical era. He dropped the title single from After Hours last week, announcing that the album itself will be released on March 20th. To support the highly anticipated project, he’ll be hitting the road for an extensive tour, beginning on June 11th in Vancouver. 2020 has definitely been his year so far.
Jim Carrey Under Fire For Saying Reporter Was On His Bucket List
Jim Carrey catches heat for saying "Just you" to female reporter who asked him if there was anything else on his bucket list.
What was intended to be a joke by Jim Carrey made the actor the target of the internet. The comedic actor stars in the recently released film Sonic the Hedgehog, and lately, Carrey has been making his way through the press circuit to promote the movie. He sat down with Heat and talked about the film with their host Charlotte and a brief moment during the four-minute segment became the talk of social media.

At one point, Charlotte asked, "I know your film Sonic has a bucket list, and I was wondering after all you've done in your career and your life, is there anything still left on your bucket list?" Carrey quipped, "Just you. That's it. It's all done now." Charlotte looked surprised before he chuckled and replied, "I don't know what to say to that." As he laughed, Carrey said, "Just own it."
The interview then moved on as normal, but many viewers chastised Carrey as they called his remarks inappropriate. Others came to the entertainer's defense, calling the backlash "fake outrage" with claims that he was talking about an interview with her being on his bucket list, not having sex with her. Check out a few reactions, along with the interview, below.
Tyler, The Creator To Star In Jim Carrey’s Comedy Series "Kidding"
Tyler, the Creator, Ariana Grande, Blake Griffin, and more will make appearances in the second season of the Jim Carrey comedy series, “Kidding.”
After the massive success of its first season, the Jim Carrey-lead Showtime comedy series, Kidding, returns on February 9th with a star-studded second season. Fresh off his recent Grammy win for Best Rap Album, Tyler, the Creator is headed to the small screen to show off his acting chops in season two of Kidding. Tyler will reportedly play a character named Cornell who works at a “nostalgia therapy center.” In the first trailer for the second season, Tyler can briefly be seen pouring coffee, and in the second, his voice can be heard saying, “Reality is the disease, fantasy is the pill.”
While Tyler has worked extensively in television, his experience is mostly limited to voice work, such as on the Adult Swim animated series, The Jellies!, which he co-created along with Lionel Boyce, as well as on Axe Cop and Lucas Bros Moving Co. Coincidentally, Tyler already plays a character named Cornell on The Jellies!, so there is a definite possibility that his Kidding role will have a connection to this show. Alongside Tyler on the stacked list of celebrity cameos are stars like Ariana Grande, Blake Griffin, Dick Van Dyke, Mae Whitman, and Eric Roberts.

Kidding follows Jeff, a children’s television icon played by Jim Carrey, who struggles to hold onto his sanity as his family begins to fall apart. The first season of the series earned Carrey a 2020 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy. Alongside Carrey, Kidding also stars Frank Langella, Catherine Keener, and Judy Dench. The second season premieres on Showtime on Sunday, February 9th, at 10pm ET/PT with back-to-back episodes.
