We are living in some weird times, to say the least. Seemingly out of nowhere, the NBA season was shut down due to the Coronavirus. Pretty well every single league followed suit and now we're all stuck at home with no sports to watch. In light of this, many franchises have had to make some harsh operating decisions. Yesterday, Joshua Harris, the owner of the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers, revealed that he would be cutting salaries by 20 percent for all staff who makes over $50,000 per year.
Harris was immediately ripped apart on Twitter for the decision. Considering he is worth in the billions of dollars, fans felt like he was taking advantage of the situation and that he could afford to pay the workers, regardless. Even Joel Embiid had to get involved and offered up $500,000 for those who would be affected.
Today, Harris decided to change his mind and offered a statement noting that no one's salary would be taking nosedive. "After listening to our staff and players, it's clear that was the wrong decision. We have reversed it and will be paying these employees their full salary," Sixers ownership explained.
Once again, Twitter proves itself to be an undefeated force. If we all come together, sometimes we can actually make real change.
Joel Embiid Jeopardy Answer Elicits Ridiculous Response: Watch
Joel Embiid changes his social handles following Jeopardy! contestant's hilarious response to a question about Embiid's nickname.
Philadelphia 76ers' All Star center Joel Embiid was an answer on "Jeopardy!" Wednesday night but, as we've seen from previous Jeopardy contestants, their sports knowledge wasn't quite up to snuff. That said, it didn't prevent good ole Paul from taking a stab at the $1000 question in the “Current Sports Nicknames" category.

The Jeopardy answer on Wednesday night was as follows: "Joel Embiid in 2019 won the trademark for this nickname of his that also describes the 76er's strategy of improving the team." Of course, the correct response would have been, "What is 'The Process?'" But if Paul had answered correctly we wouldn't be here right now.
Instead, he gifted the Sixers' big man with a new nickname that just might stick: Joel "Do A 180" Embiid.
It's anybody's guess how he came up with "Do A 180" but we're glad he did because that video clip instantly went viral and hilarity ensued, as Embiid himself changed his social handles to Joel "Do A 180" Embiid. And it was a win-win for both parties involved as Paul won the night with $21,000 and Embiid went to bed with an outrageous new nickname.
Check out the footage from Wednesday's episode, as well as Embiid's reaction, below.
Sixers Reveal Joel Embiid’s Shoulder Injury Status
Philadelphia 76ers All Star center Joel Embiid receives positive news regarding the shoulder injury he suffered on Wednesday night.
Stop me if you've heard this one before: Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has suffered an injury and will be out for at least a week.
The oft-injured All Star exited Wednesday's game just eight minutes after tipoff, following a collision with Cleveland Cavaliers' big man Ante Zizic but there's hope that he won't miss much action. The team announced on Thursday that Embiid did not have structural damage in his sprained left shoulder and he will be re-evaluated in a week.

The Sixers picked up a win over the New York Knicks on Thursday night without the help of Embiid nor Ben Simmons, who is expected to miss at least two weeks with a back issue. To date, Embiid has missed 17 games this season due to either injury or suspension although there does seem to be some encouragement from the Sixers in the fact that his latest injury does not appear to be too severe.
"The fact that there is no structural damage we all hear loudly," Sixers head coach Brett Brown said on Thursday, per ESPN. "Maybe it's a simple as that in some ways. Of course, it's as much from the personal standpoint as it is a selfish coach, he's looking forward to this run home, this final third, this responsibility, no Ben [Simmons] for how long we'll all figure out in time. To learn that from him and his perspective, from the team perspective that is exciting news."
Up next for the Sixers is a four-game West coast road trip, including matchups against the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Sixers’ Joel Embiid Injured During Loss To The Cavs, Fans React
Sixers star Joel Embiid went down with a shoulder injury just days after Ben Simmons' back issue.
Joel Embiid has been a crucial member of the Philadelphia 76ers, even though sometimes he is incredibly inconsistent. When Embiid plays well, the team plays well and they have driven that philosophy home over the last couple of seasons. Recently, Ben Simmons went down with a back injury and could very well miss the rest of the season. In light of Simmons' injury, it was supposed to be Joel Embiid who would pick up the play and lead his team to victory.
Unfortunately for Embiid and the Sixers, his role could take a huge hit as he went down with a shoulder injury last night. During the first quarter of a match against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Embiid was seen clutching his shoulder and never returned to the game. His team eventually lost, 108-94.
Embiid is supposed to undergo an MRI today which will give the team a better sense of his timeline for recovery. The Sixers were finally starting to string together some wins and if they lose Embiid for a significant amount of time, their playoff chances may very well go out the window. If you're a Sixers fan, you're certainly praying for a speedy recovery.
Stay tuned for updates on Embiid's condition as we will be sure to bring them to you.
Joel Embiid Flips Off Hawks’ Huerter For Breaking Unwritten Rule
Joel Embiid offers apology after flipping off Hawks guard Kevin Huerter for stealing the ball in the final seconds.
Philadelphia 76ers All Star center Joel Embiid had himself a night at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday, as he racked up a career-high 49 points with 14 rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 129-112 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Embiid capped off his career night with a highlight reel-worthy step back three in the closing minute, followed by a celebratory dance that surely got under the skin of Hawks guard Kevin Huerter.
As seen in the footage embedded below, Huerter snuck up and stole the ball from Embiid as he was attempting to dribble out the clock with a 17-point lead in hand, which prompted Embiid to send a middle finger his way.
Of the incident, Embiid told reporters during the post-game:
“There’s always this thing you shouldn’t shoot the ball if you’re up 20. I think it should go both ways… If the other team is going to keep playing defense and shooting the ball at the other end, we should go out and score.”
“I also want to say sorry for what I did at the end of the game," Embiid said. "Ya’ll probably saw that on TV, I am sorry.”
As a result of Monday's win, the Sixers improved to 36-22 on the season, which ranks fifth in the Eastern Conference. Up next for Embiid and co. are a pair of games against the East's bottom feeders, as they visit Cleveland on Wednesday, followed by a home game against the Knicks on Thursday night.
Joel Embiid Dubs Himself "Best Player In The World"
Philadelphia Sixers All Star center Joel Embiid thinks he's more than just the best big man in the league, declares himself "the best player in the world."
Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid came out of the All Star break with a bang on Thursday night, scoring a game-high 39 points with 16 rebounds in a 112-104 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. The 25-year old center has established himself as one of the most dominant big men in the NBA today, and his confident seems to be at an all-time high, as he described himself as "the best player in the world" following the win over Brooklyn.

Embiid told reporters, per ESPN:
"The All-Star Game was fun. Being there in the fourth quarter, doing my thing at the end of the game, I thought it was great.
"But the All-Star Game, just proving I'm here, I belong, and being the best player in the world, I just intend to keep coming out every single night and just play hard and trying to get wins and just go out and try to win a championship."
In response to his comments about being the best player in the world, Embiid was asked if there is any added significance to the Sixers' upcoming showdown with reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Eastern Conference-leading Milwaukee Bucks.
"For sure. We beat them pretty bad in the first matchup, they got us the last one, so it's on us to go out there and try to beat them again."
"I felt like the first part of the season I was trying to make sure everybody was comfortable, tried to take a step back," he said, per ESPN. "But if we are going to go somewhere, I've got to be one of the guys [doing it]."
Through 40 games this season, Embiid is averaging 23.3 points, 12 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. The Sixers (35-21) will visit the Bucks (47-8) on Saturday night in a game that will air on ABC at 8:30pm ET.
Stephen A. Smith Delivers Questionable Sixers Vs. Heat Hot Take
Stephen A. might ruffle a few feathers with this one.
Stephen A. Smith has been one of the most controversial sports media personalities over the last few years and he is constantly providing us with some wild hot takes. Smith's bread and butter is the NBA and at times, his opinions have hurt the feelings of coaches, general managers, coaches, and even executives. Regardless, Smith always tries to maintain his integrity and calls it as he sees it. Today, that's exactly what he did while discussing the differences between the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers.
When asked who lead their team farther, Joel Embiid or Jimmy Butler, Smith surprisingly stated that he thinks Butler and the Heat are in the best position to win. As it stands the Heat and 76ers are 4th and 5th, respectively, in the Eastern Conference. The Sixers have had their fair share of struggles although their roster has much more proven talent than the Heat.
Fans were pretty surprised by Smith's admission especially when you consider how much he loves the 76ers and the city of Philadelphia. Either way, Smith is putting all of his faith in Butler and the Heat. Stephen A. even said that if given the chance, he would bet money on Miami. Clearly, Smith knows something we don't.
If the postseason were to start today, the Heat would play the Sixers. With this in mind, who do you think has the best chance at winning?
Joel Embiid Speaks On His Love-Hate Relationship With Sixers Fans
Embiid embraces the challenge.
Joel Embiid has been one of the best big men in the NBA over the last few years but that hasn't stopped him from receiving a ton of criticism from both fans and pundits. Over the last month or so, Embiid has been inconsistent and the fans are starting to get annoyed. This past week, rumors began circulating about whether or not Embiid could be traded in the summer and, once again, the fans were sent into a tailspin.
Last night, Embiid was booed in front of the hometown crowd and it was clear he was on a mission. Embiid scored 26 points in a win against the Los Angeles Clippers and afterward, he spoke about the love-hate relationship he has with the fans in Philadelphia.
“Felt great. They be going at me; I went back at them. We’re all human beings. If I can take it, then everyone else can take it too. So we move on, we learn from it, we move on. I gotta do a better job. They gotta do a better job," Embiid said per ESPN’s Tim Bontemps. “I understand where that comes from, but then again, if you dish it, you gotta be able to take it back. But at the end of the day, like I said in my location last night, it’s all love. I love my city. I been here for a long time now. We have a special relationship, and I’m happy to be here. I can’t wait for the future, especially this year. I think we can accomplish something great.”
With less than 30 games to play in the regular season, expect Embiid and the Sixers to be one of the frontrunners coming out of the East. Perhaps they're the only team that could beat the Milwaukee Bucks at this point.
Joel Embiid & Marcus Morris Get Into Heated Shoving Match: Watch
Never a dull moment with these two.
Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers has always been a feisty player out on the court. More often than not, Embiid is finding himself in scuffles that typically go his way. On Tuesday, this happened once again as he went toe-to-toe with Marcus Morris of the Los Angeles Clippers. Morris was recently acquired by the Clippers and he has been making an impact early. Last night, the Sixers beat the Clippers 110-103 and at one point, Morris and Embiid found themselves in a shoving match.
In the clip below, Morris locks up Embiid's arm and in an attempt to get away, Embiid swats Morris away. This led to a big push from Morris who seemed pretty upset over what went down. Both teams came in to split up the players and eventually, things simmered down.
“I ain't gonna say nothing cause they like to fine me. So I’m gonna keep my mouth shut. But, you know, it is what it is," Morris later said about the incident.
Later in the game, Embiid secured a huge block on Morris which became yet another big highlight in the game. These two could potentially find themselves in an NBA Finals matchup and if that's the case, we can't wait to see what Morris and Embiid have in store for us.
Joel Embiid Booed By 76ers Fans During Team Introduction: Watch
Some fans weren't happy with the Sixers star.
Joel Embiid's up and down play has been quite polarizing for 76ers fans this season. Over the past week, there has been a growing sense of discontent around the team and now, some people think Embiid could be traded in the offseason. This is a bizarre development considering some people thought the Sixers could win the championship this season. Either way, the Sixers live and die by Embiid's play and when he's struggling, it shows in their record.
Last night, some 76ers fans gave Embiid a piece of their minds when he was introduced prior to the team's game against the Los Angeles Clippers. As you can see in the clip below, Embiid was booed by some of the Philly faithful. There were certainly some cheers sprinkled in although the boos were heard loud and clear.
The boos didn't stop Embiid from having a good game. He ended up scoring 26 points as the 76ers edged out the Clippers, 110-103. For now, it seems like Embiid is back to his old ways and playing the basketball we know he can. This should be good news for Sixers fans who were hoping for more from their team this season. If Embiid and the Sixers keep this up, they'll be in prime position to come out of the Eastern Conference and challenge the West's best for an NBA title.
