Luka Magnotta, the convicted murder from Netflix’s Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting An Internet Killer true crime documentary series, is not seeing the outside of a prison cell anytime soon despite coronavirus concerns. It was reported recently that the prison where the kitten killer, who went on to be convicted of murdering and dismembering a human being, currently resides has seen a number of coronavirus cases. There was speculation that, as a result, Luka may be released from the maximum security facility in Quebec, but according to The Correctional Service of Canada, there’s no chance of anything like that happening.
The CSC stated that “Mr. Magnotta is not eligible, under law, for any form of parole” until June 4th, 2034. The severity of the virus at the prison isn’t too extreme, though, with 11 out of the 15 inmates that tested positive having already recovered. There have been zero deaths so far, although 15 prison employees have also tested positive. Only low-level offenders with a lesser risk of posing a threat to the public are being considered for early release, which Luka is not. In 2014, he was sentenced to life in prison for committing first-degree murder after he was found guilty of killing international student, Jun Lin, in 2012.
