Lil Yachty has always been known to engage in some antics from time to time. In his music, Yachty exudes youthful exuberance and this same philosophy applies to his everyday life. At times, Yachty likes to film these antics and share them with the world. Typically, it always makes for some fun viewing and it's ultimately part of the reason why he is so beloved by all of his fans.
On Friday, Yachty decided to film a friendly race with his 50-year-old father, and it was entertaining, to say the least. Throughout the video, you can see Yachty talking a whole lot of smack before considerably outpacing his father. From there, he calls his dad an "old ass man" and belittles him for losing what appeared to be a make-shift 100-meter dash.
When you consider the age gap, Yachty's win shouldn't come as that much of a surprise. However, it is important to note that next week is Father's Day which means he will have to make this up to his dad somehow. Losing a race to your son in front of thousands of people isn't fun and we're sure he's expecting a nice gift as payback for what he had to go through.
Needless to say, it was all in good fun and we're sure Yachty's dad did plenty of winning when he was younger.
Lil Yachty Mourns XXXTentacion
Lil Yachty takes a moment to mourn the late XXXTentacion, whose death anniversary arrives on June 18th.
Prior to his sudden murder in 2018, Florida rapper XXXTentacion was in the midst of becoming a superstar. Boasting albums like 17 and ? to his name, Triple X quickly won fans through his experimental nature, his strong ear for melodies, and his ability to flip the script and spit bars when prompted. In truth, few of the new generation of hip-hop artists boast his level of versatility, a quality that went a long way in widening the scope of his base. To this day, there are some who deem him legendary, another young pioneer gone before he could truly reveal his full potential.

As his death anniversary slowly approaches, Lil Yachty took a moment to reflect on Triple X's passing. "I still can’t believe this n***a x really gone," he writes on Twitter, though it's unclear as to what prompted his mourning. In any case, it goes to show the impact XXXTentacion truly had on his fellow artists.
Though Yachty and XXX never actually linked up on wax, it's not the first time that Lil Boat openly reflected on the rapper's passing. A few weeks after Triple X's murder, Yachty sat down with Big Boy TV and explained how the news had impacted him. "I've been a good person, I've always been a good person, but I want to be the best person, in a serious way," he explained. "I really want to be like, active. I want to help, and learn more about what's going on in the world."
Rest in peace XXXTentacion, and respect to Lil Yachty for showing his memory some love. Should you be looking to support Lil Boat in your own way, be sure to check out his brand new Lil Boat 3 album.

This was not an ordinary week. We won't pretend as though it was. There is a revolution happening outside and, although we would love to solely focus on music and the regular hip-hop news, that's not entirely appropriate right now.
We have made an effort across our editorial staff to bring you news from the protests in addition to some hip-hop news. This week, labels and artists decided to push back their releases and, although there was still some new music released today, it was to a much lesser degree than what was expected.
Every week, we update our TIDAL-exclusive TIDAL Wave playlist with the songs that our staff has been feeling the hardest. If you've been turning to music for a temporary distraction from the world that surrounds us, check out the updates we've made this week.
We start off with one of the stand-outs from Lil Wayne's brand new Funeral deluxe edition before bringing you the fire "T.D." freestyle from Lil Yachty's new album with Tierra Whack, A$AP Rocky, and Tyler, The Creator. Next up on the docket is Conway's "Front Lines" effort before Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist take over.
We've also got new cuts from G Herbo, Kevin Gates, SAINt JHN and Future, RMR, ROSALÍA and Travis Scott, 6LACK, Aminé, and more. Check out our individual contributions below and sign up for a TIDAL trial here.

The updated first-week sales numbers for Lil Yachty and Freddie Gibbs have been released.
Lady Gaga has a clear path to debut at the top spot on next week’s Billboard 200.
The pop superstar has been leading the field in terms of first-week sales projections and, in a batch of updated figures, it looks like she’s still charging forward as the leader of the pack. With a total of approximately 285,000 equivalent album units moved, she’s looking guaranteed for an easy route to the #1 spot. On top of all that, the majority of her numbers account for pure album sales.
As for hip-hop, we’re still represented well in the top-moving albums of the week. Several of the genre’s most popular characters, including Lil Baby, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, Post Malone, Drake, and DaBaby, are within or just outside of the Top 10 for this week’s biggest albums.

Lil Yachty Explains Why He Ditched His Signature Red Braids
Lil Yachty tells the world why he went a different direction with his braids, explaining the red dye was killing his hair.
Once upon a time, Lil Yachty proved to be a branding expert, infiltrating the world of hip-hop with his signature red braids and becoming an easy costume for kids to recreate on Halloween. Still, he is one of the most recognizable characters in rap and tonight, he will continue his path with his new album Lil Boat 3.
Set to feature Drake, DaBaby, Tyler, The Creator, A$AP Rocky, Tierra Whack, and more, Lil Yachty will close out the trilogy before moving onto new avenues. Already, he has taken a different route with his hair, no longer sporting the colorful beaded braids that we once loved him for. In a new feature with Highsnobiety, the rapper explained his decision and said it’s not as deep as people think.
Some of Lil Boat’s fans theorized that the change in hair colors symbolized a musical switch for the critically-acclaimed superstar but, according to him, that’s simply not the case.

“Honestly, it was hard to maintain,” said the bubbly personality. “The bleach was literally killing my hair. My hair was just dying. It’s growing now. That’s all. It’s just hair. I just kept it red because I loved it. But it kept falling out. It never would grow.”
Now that he has black hair, some of Yachty’s fans assumed that he would be making darker music. Again, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
“I think sometimes people just assume things are a lot more complex. In my world, it’s just not that deep, bro,” he explained. “It’s just music. It’s all fun to me. There’s no strategy behind it, like, ‘oh, his hair was red, it’s black now. [He’s] making evil rap music.’ It’s not like that.”
Lil Yachty previously released the music video for “Split/Whole Time” this week, which serves as the official follow-up to “Oprah’s Bank Account” with Drake and DaBaby.

Lil Yachty Announces "Lil Boat 3" Release Date
Lil Yachty comes through with some key information on his upcoming "Lil Boat 3" album, including the imminent release date.
While Lil Yachty has released an abundance of music throughout his relatively young career, many of his fans cite his Lil Boat album series as his best work thus far. The first installment was somewhat of a breakout for the Atlanta rapper, who won hearts and minds with his unique style and breezy melodies. The second arrived a little later on down the line, and by that point Boat's base were clamoring for more bars -- and thus, Lil Boat 2 was born, arriving with a splash in 2018.

Now, Boat is looking to make his aquatic franchise a trilogy. At long last, the Quality Control artist has lifted the curtains on his climactic chapter, announcing that Lil Boat 3 will be arriving on May 29th, clocking in at a staggering nineteen songs. At such a gargantuan runtime, it's set to be the longest of the trilogy so far -- though those expecting a more concise voyage might be left wanting as a result. Still, it's clear Yachty had a lot to say on this go-around, and it should be interesting to see which direction he pursues.
Given that we have yet to hear any music from the upcoming album, it's unclear whether he'll be following the melodic stylings of Boat 1 or the more rap-focused direction of Boat 2. In any case, Yachty has proven himself to be a solid captain -- let us see where he takes us on May 29th. Are you excited for Lil Boat 3?
