A college recruiter has been fired after he asked high school students in Oklahoma to line up according to hair texture and skin color during a recent visit to their school.

The incident happened last week when students at Harding Charter Preparatory High School in Oklahoma City told the local NBC affiliate that a recruiter from Oklahoma Christian University made them line up from lightest to darkest according to their skin color. He then made them line up according to their hair texture as well.

“He barely talked about the school itself,” student, Rio Brown, said. “He told us to line up nappiest hair in the back and straightest hair in the front.”

The students say that the recruiter presented the incident as a game. He reportedly wanted to see which students could line up the fastest according to the guidelines he presented. Brown said that their teachers left the assembly in disgust once the recruiter started making them play the game.

“Teachers left,” Brown detailed. “They were crying and they were offended. Their faces just look disgusted. I know they had a talk with him after, like, ‘That’s not okay.’”

The university has since released a statement regarding the incident, claiming that it does not condone the recruiter’s behavior. And as a result, the recruiter, who is reportedly described as a “white male,” has been fired from his position.

JMBLYA Festival will be back for its eighth run in May, and artists like A$AP Rocky, Lil Uzi Vert, and Playboi Carti will be headlining the 2020 event taking place in Dallas, Austin, and Houston. These hip-hop favourites are among good company on the traveling music festival’s stacked lineup. 2019 breakout stars like Lil Tecca, Lil Tjay, and Travis Scott‘s Cactus Jack signee, Don Toliver are among the billed artists performing at the Texas festival.

Fresh talent like Canadian-born bbno$, 18-year-old Dallas native Kaash Paige, and Harlem artist Delly will also be hitting up the festival’s eighth instalment to deliver some fire performances. However, some additional acts are only slotted to perform in one of the three Texan cities. Rapper Doeman will be taking the stage in Houston, while DJ and producer Joaqu.n will make an appearance in Austin, and newcomer Gwapmizzle is set to perform in Dallas.

JMBLYA will once again kick off at Fair Park in Dallas on Friday, May 1st before heading over to the Circuit of The Americas racetrack in Austin on May 2nd. The festival will be returning to Houston once again on Sunday, May 3rd after a hiatus in 2018 at the University of Houston’s TDECU Stadium Parking Lot. Tickets are available for purchase on the official JMBLYA website.

Lil Kim has officially confirmed that she’ll be performing at Lovers & Friends Festival, after talking to Snoop Dogg, who is a promoter and booking agent for the show, about using her name on the lineup without her knowledge. The lineup for Lovers & Friends, a music festival taking place on Saturday, May 9th, at Dignity Health Sports Park in L.A., was announced on Tuesday, much to the excitement of throwback hip hop and R&B fans everywhere.

However, speculation about the lineup’s legitimacy quickly began circulating, after artists like Twista and Mase publicly denied any involvement with the festival despite appearing on the flyer. Though Twista later retracted his comment, folks also noticed that acts like T-Pain and Megan Thee Stallion were already scheduled to perform at different festivals—Rolling Loud and Broccoli Festival, respectively—that same day. Lil Kim, who was also listed as a billed artist on the lineup, even took to Instagram stories to declare that the whole festival was fake as she had no part in this. Lovers & Friends was quickly getting Fyre Fest comparisons, as fans began having doubts about whether this show was actually happening.

Snoop Dogg, who revealed that he is a promoter and booking agent for the event, hopped on social media to clear up the confusion. He indicated that all of the artists besides Lil Kim were “100% confirmed,” and asked her to DM him so that they could work things out directly. It looks like Snoop was successful, as Kim has confirmed that she will indeed be playing Lovers & Friends.

“THE CHECK HAS CLEARED,” she wrote on a photo of the updated flyer. “Thank uncle @snoopdogg guys cause if it wasn’t for him this would not be happening but y’all know how much I love Cali and Uncle Snoop. See ya’ll May 9th, 2020.” While we’re glad to see that Kim is still on the lineup, it appears that at least one artist, Foxy Brown, has been removed, and another, Trick Daddy, has been added. Mase’s name still appears on the flyer, though, so hopefully he’s worked things out with Snoop the same way Kim did. Presale tickets are officially on sale now for Lovers & Friends.

Roots Picnic has established itself as one of the premier music festivals catering to hip-hop fans around the nation and, this year, with headliners like Meek Mill, DaBaby, and Summer Walker, we’re in for another amazing show. While most festivals pack a weekend full of activities, performances, and music-centric showcases into three days, the Roots Picnic is doing so in one single day, choosing Saturday, May 30 to return to Philadelphia’s Mann Center.

Questlove officially announced the line-up for the 2020 edition of Roots Picnic, confirming some of the most exciting profiles for performances at the festival. The headliners will surely be enough to bring out a sell-out crowd to Philly but, further down the card, a slew of discovery-worthy names are listed for you to enjoy. The soulful Snoh Aalegra will be bringing her brand of R&B to the stage with Burna Boy, Thundercat, Griselda, Baby Rose, SiR, Buddy, and more all slated to make additional appearances. The Roots will also be presenting a soul showcase featuring the likes of Brandy, SWV, and Musiq Soulchild.

If you’ve had enough of music and you just want to chill and dive into a conversation with some of the top minds in the game, you’ll have a chance to do that too with Elliott Wilson and Questlove both bringing their shows to Roots Picnic.

The first-ever iteration of Rolling Loud in Portugal is about to be historic. In the reign of the five-year hip-hop festival, Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif have brought Rolling Loud to Miami, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Australia, and other world destinations over the years. It’s time to bring the brand to the beach now, potentially creating a version of Fyre Festival that’s actually worth attending.

While this isn’t being advertised as a luxury fest, Rolling Loud is worth the price of admission solely for the experience of seeing all your favorite rappers in one spot. If you haven’t been able to grab tickets to the Miami dates coming up — and even if you have… — you’ll want to check out details for the upcoming version of the festival in Portugal, for which the lineup has just been announced.

Tickets for the Portuguese version of Rolling Loud, which is happening at Praia De Rocha Beach, are officially on sale and the line-up is nuts. This is the first-ever iteration in the European country, bringing headliners Wiz Khalifa, Future, and A$AP Rocky to the main stage from July 8 to 10. Further down the card, DaBaby, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Young Thug, Playboi Carti, Meek Mill, Rae Sremmurd, Roddy Ricch, Tyga, Lil Tecca, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, NLE Choppa, and many more have also been announced.

Rolling Loud has been expanding its reach across the globe. The hip hop-centric music festival now takes place in Northern California, Southern California, New York, Japan, Hong Kong, and has its European debut set for July. With this many iterations, it feels like Rolling Loud is occurring on a monthly basis. If you're a fan of rap, you know when it's happening. Posts from artists and attendees flood your social media feeds, reminding you that you're missing out on a wild weekend. Luckily, you can always be reassured by the fact that, if you missed one Rolling Loud stop, there will be another one not too far in the future with just as epic of a lineup. 

The next Rolling Loud will take place at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium from March 8 to March 10. Its lineup was revealed today and it's just as stacked as usual. A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott and Post Malone will serve as the weekend's headliners. Each day is filled with a bunch of established names and up-and-coming artists who are defining today's hip-hop landscape. While many of the acts on this poster are Rolling Loud veterans, Big Sean will be making his debut at this edition. Not to spoil any surprises, but Travis Scott, Pop Smoke, Don Toliver, Sheck Wes, Lil Baby and Young Thug all performing on Saturday raises the possibility of them bringing JACKBOYS to a live setting.

From July 10-12, one of the world's hottest hip-hop centric music festivals will be taking place in The Netherlands. On an annual basis, the organizers of WOO HAH! Festival manage to grab most of the hottest artists in the genre, promising a show for the ages every year. Already, the line-up was looking pretty ace for the 2020 edition with Kendrick Lamar, EARTHGANG, Ski Mask the Slump God, and more announced in the first wave. The next batch of performers has just been revealed and, oh boy, attendees are in for a good show.

If you're a hip-hop fan in The Netherlands, or if you've been meaning to plan a trip out to Amsterdam with a weekend layover elsewhere in the country, you will want to check out the details for WOO HAH! Festival this year. While it's not quite as world-renowned as Rolling Loud, WOO HAH! consistently brings some of the top rap acts to the stage with the last few years impressing festivalgoers massively. This week, more names were added to the card, which will entice y'all all the more to cop some tickets.

Young Thug, the buzzing Pop Smoke, artist of the moment Roddy Ricch, NAV, slowthai, Polo G, and the Eminem-featured Young M.A are all new additions to the line-up and there are even more surprises to come. At this point, we're just gonna buy our passes and figure out how to get there later.

Broccoli City Fest isn’t like other music festivals. Located at Washington, DC’s RFK Stadium, it doesn’t only seek to provide a musical experience, but a communal one. The festival is organized by Broccoli City, a project that is dedicated to “mobilizing and educating urban millennials through social impact campaigns and major events.” There are opportunities to learn about and get involved with sustainability initiatives on site, while also getting the chance to see a selection of today’s hottest artists. Community ties are also built through supporting local vendors at the pop-up marketplace. 

This year, Broccoli City Fest will be headlined by DaBaby, Roddy Ricch and Megan Thee Stallion – three rappers who were 2019 MVPs and are shaping up to be just as impactful in 2020. The lineup doesn’t solely consist of hip hop acts, though. Tastes of R&B are provided by Ari Lennox and Lucky Daye. Burna Boy, Doja Cat and IDK are sure to bring exhilarating sets. Soulection is curating a mini-lineup that features the likes of Andre Power, Esta and Sasha Marie. If you’re not sold already, the festival poster teases that more special guests will be announced.
