Playing for the Los Angeles Chargers can't be easy. Sure, you get to live in Los Angeles but you don't have any fans. Of course, all of the real Chargers fans are in San Diego, meanwhile, Los Angeles football fans are already supporting the Rams. Needless to say, it's a lose-lose scenario for all of the players out there who want to go out and compete in front of thousands of adoring fans. If you play for the Chargers, you're basically playing 16 away games every single season.
Former Chargers running back Melvin Gordon was always extremely blunt about his distaste for the Chargers fanbase and has thrown shots their way countless times. During a recent conversation with Marcus Cromartie, Gordon spoke about playing games with no fans and he couldn't help but throw some shade at the Chargers supporters who do exist.
"We didn't have many Chargers fans, I'm going to be honest," Gordon said. "We didn't have many Chargers fans at the game. Much loyalty, love, but we didn't have many. I ain't really missing out on much."
As of right now, the NFL is promising to start on time in 2020 although, with the Coronavirus, it remains to be seen if this is feasible. Either way, Gordon will have to go another year without fans.
Melvin Gordon Sends Shots At Chargers Fans
Melvin Gordon always seemed to have issues with the lack of fans in Los Angeles.
Melvin Gordon started out his career with the Chargers organization although last year, it appeared as though there was some trouble on the horizon. Gordon was clearly not happy with his contract and held out from football activities as he sought to get his money up. He and the Chargers never came to an agreement so he decided to return to the field. During this most recent offseason, Gordon decided to leave Los Angeles and signed with a divisional rival in the Denver Broncos.
While speaking to journalist Nicki Jhabvala, Gordon admitted that playing in Los Angeles wasn't very fun as the fanbase was practically non-existent. All of the football fans in the city were indebted to the Rams which made the Chargers a second rate team. As Gordon explains, Broncos fans made home games feel like away games. In fact, most Chargers home games felt like away matches.
With this in mind, Gordon is happy to go to a team that actually has fans at their home games. However, when you have fans, there are bigger expectations and as a running back, your performance isn't always guaranteed. Regardless, Gordon seems content with his decision and that's all that should matter at this point.
While his beef might be with Chargers fans, one could make the argument, what Chargers fans?
Melvin Gordon Signs With Team Not Named The Chargers
Melvin Gordon infamously went through a holdout with the Los Angeles Chargers last season.
Melvin Gordon has been a beacon of consistency when it comes to the running back position and has been a stud for the Los Angeles Chargers over the last few seasons. Last year, Gordon was seeking an extension from the Chargers but wasn't able to reach an agreement. For a few games, Gordon held out from playing for the team but he eventually came back when he realized that it would behoove him to do so.
Gordon was a free agent this season and was looking for some new suitors. According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Gordon and the Denver Broncos have agreed to a two-year, $16 million deal with $13.5 million guaranteed. As Rapoport reports, Gordon could have gotten a better deal elsewhere but wanted to stay in the same division as the Chargers.
The AFC West will certainly be an interesting division next season as Philip Rivers is no longer on the Chargers. Meanwhile, the Broncos and Raiders have some potential especially with the latter moving to Las Vegas. From there, the Kansas City Chiefs are defending champions and will be hungry to win the division, again.

Chargers’ Melvin Gordon Predicts Philip Rivers’ Next Team
Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon says this AFC franchise represents the best fit for Philip Rivers.
Long time Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is parting ways with the franchise that he spent his first 16 NFL seasons with, and there will be several teams interested in the veteran gunslinger once free agency officially opens next month. Among them, the Indianapolis Colts, a team that Rivers' former teammate, running back Melvin Gordon, views as the best fit.

During an interview with CBS Sports on Monday morning, Gordon explained:
"I think he'll go to the Colts. I don't know, that's just my thought. He has Nick (Sirianni) there, the (OC), he came from here. They run the same playbook, so it'd be easy, he could come right in....That's probably the best fit."
As mentioned by Gordon, Nick Sirianni, who spent five seasons alongside Rivers as a member of the Chargers, is the current offensive coordinator for the Colts. Furthermore, Rivers has some familiarity with Colts head coach Frank Reich as well. Reich spent three seasons with the Chargers from 2013-2015, including a season as a quarterback coach and two as the offensive coordinator.
The Colts finished 7-9 last season behind backup QB Jacoby Brissett, who was thrust into the starting role when Andrew Luck abruptly retired just weeks before the start of the season.
Rivers, 38, led the Chargers to a 5-11 record last year, throwing for 4,615 yards (fourth in the NFL) with 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He hasn't missed a single start since taking over as the Chargers starting QB back in 2006.
