After George Floyd was murdered at the hands of the police, protests erupted all around the country and now, protests are popping up all over the world. It is very clear that people have both seen and had enough. Lawmakers are already looking to make changes and it seems as though the thoughts of the people are being heard. While there is still plenty of progress to be made, positive changes are, indeed, coming.
Matt Barnes was always vocal during his time in the NBA and in his retirement, he has kept that same energy. Barnes always brings nuanced thoughts to these big societal topics, and he is also very well-connected within the league. During an appearance on Yahoo! Sports' Dunk Bait podcast, Barnes revealed that he has been talking to players on both Los Angeles NBA teams and there is this growing feeling that some players would rather not return amid all of the social unrest.
As Barnes explains, the players don't want the return of the league to take away from the massive movement that is happening right now. Some things are much bigger than sports and the players admit that social injustice needs to be taken care of first.
It remains to be seen whether or not this sentiment will continue to grow throughout the league or if it will dissipate prior to July 31st. Regardless, the players are serious about having their voices heard.
Jaylen Brown Divulges Intentions To Form His Own Media Outlet
Jaylen Brown has always shown himself to be politically engaged and now he wants to take that one step further.
Prior to the George Floyd murder, Jaylen Brown was always an incredibly political person. Many athletes shy away from speaking on political issues but Brown has always been an exception to that rule. He is well versed on a number of topics and when news of Floyd's murder made shockwaves throughout the world, Brown made sure to speak up and let his voice be heard. In fact, Brown drove all the way from Boston to Atlanta so that he could take part in Black Lives Matter protests.
Now, Brown is showcasing just how ambitious he is as he took to Twitter to let his fans in on a project that he would love to see become a reality. Essentially, Brown would want to create a political media outlet that is completely unbiased. Simply put, this outlet would report on the facts with little to no opinion interjected.
Bias is one of the trickiest things in journalism because it is almost impossible to achieve. The stories you choose to cover, the words you choose to use, and even the facts you choose to include or omit, are all apart of your biases. Regardless, there is a big difference between intentional bias and unintentional bias, which we're sure Brown is well-aware of.
A basketball player creating a political media outlet would be unprecedented but if anyone could do it, it would certainly be Brown.

Derek Chauvin, charged with second-degree murder for the death of George Floyd, made his first appearance in court.
The murder of George Floyd was all too familiar. With a knee pressing against Floyd’s neck, Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd in broad day. Protests across the world have demanded justice, but even after Chauvin and the three other officers were arrested and charged, that’s only the first part of this battle.

Per CNN, Chauvin appeared in court virtually from Oak Park Heights prison where he faced Judge Jeannice Reding. The judge accepted the prosecutors’ motion to set an unconditional bail at $1.25M. Conditional bail was set at $1M with conditions including that he has no other run-in with the law, making future appearances, does not work in any security of law enforcement field in any capacity, handing over any firearms, ammunition, and any permits. He’s also required to stay within Minnesota and have no contact with George Floyd’s family. Additionally, he must waive extradition after his release. His defense had not opposed this motion in court.
Chauvin was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, though prosecutors also added a second-degree murder charge in an amended filing. Chauvin was caught on camera putting his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly 9-minutes. The other three officers in the case have also been arrested and charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder. We’ll keep you updated on more news surrounding this case.
Kylie Jenner Parties At LA Club & Ignores Social Distancing
Kylie Jenner turned up at a club this weekend, ignoring social distancing and failing to wear a face mask.
California residents are being advised to remain at home unless you’re an essential worker or are headed to a store to stock up on food and other resources. The coronavirus pandemic has taken somewhat of a backseat with all of the protests happening across the nation but it still poses a major threat to those at risk. Kylie Jenner ignored that when she partied at a Los Angeles nightclub until 1 AM.
On Sunday, Kylie Jenner was a guest at Bootsy Bellows with her friend Fai Khadra and neither of them were wearing protective face masks. According to Daily Mail, the pair was there until late at night, ignoring social distancing guidelines as the spot appears to have been opened solely for their party.
The club is re-opening its doors for celebrity clientele after being shut down for the last couple of months due to COVID-19.

Prior to their fun night out, Kylie and Fai reportedly chowed down at Nobu, a popular restaurant in Malibu.
Kylie Jenner has urged her fans to stay home and, because of her late-night out, she has earned a lot of backlash by fans who are calling her a hypocrite.
Recently, the makeup mogul was stripped of her Youngest Self-Made Billionaire title by Forbes, who claims that she fabricated a “web of lies” and failed to declare her actual earnings.

Drew Brees’ Wife Pens Emotional Message After Recent Controversy
Brittany Brees penned a lengthy apology in regards to Drew Brees’ comments about kneeling.
Drew Brees made many in the football community upset last week after his comments on kneeling during the National Anthem. NFL players have been advocating for these types of peaceful protests for years and they felt as though Brees was undermining them and their struggle. Eventually, Brees talked things out with his teammates, and eventually, he changed his mind and how he feels. Brees apologized and noted that he has a lot of work to do when it comes to listening to his fellow man.
In light of the backlash surrounding Brees’ comments, his wife Brittany has now gotten involved and recently penned an emotional apology on the Brees Dream Foundation Instagram page. Throughout the post, Brees apologizes for her and her husband’s ignorance. She also notes that she has done a lot of listening over the last week and hopes to be a part of the solution as opposed to the problem.
Per Brees:
“To say ‘I don’t agree with disrespecting the flag’. I now understand was also saying I don’t understand what the problem really is, I don’t understand what you’re fighting for, and I’m not willing to hear you because of our preconceived notions of what that flag means to us. […] “We want to do better. We want to HEAR you, and we will fight for you because thinking we are not part of the problem…is checking the box it means we are…not doing enough. It’s our job to educate ourselves. We are sorry.”
It’s clear that the Brees family wants to do its part, and based on both Drew and Brittany’s comments, they are both saddened to have hurt so many people. What matters now, though, is that they are listening and changing.
Tory Lanez Proves Pretty Ricky’s Spectacular Wrong With Receipts
Tory Lanez proves that he cleared the Pretty Ricky samples that Spectacular claims he stole.
Pretty Ricky's Spectacular had better check his facts before he opens his mouth because, after accusing Tory Lanez of sampling the group's music without his permission, the Toronto native proved him wrong.
This weekend, Tory Lanez commented on the surprising collaboration between Akon and Tekashi 6ix9ine.
"So what y’all telling me is .... Akon gave the #LockedUpRemix / SAMPLE to someone else !?!?? And not me?!????," he said on Twitter after a preview was uploaded to social media.
Spectacular responded by telling him he should have just stolen the sample like he did with Pretty Ricky. Well, Tory had time today and he provided some receipts to The Shade Room.
Sending some documents to the publication to prove that he paid the writers and label for the "Your Body" sample on Chixtape 5, Tory Lanez got the last word on Spectacular. Apparently, Spectacular even saw a 6% cut of the money.
"Going to go back to minding my business. Y’all have a good day," wrote Tory in the comments, ending this beef.
The Canadian artist recently completed the terms of his deal with Interscope Records and is currently an independent musician. He is clearly educated on the business side of the industry, taking a few minutes to pull out the proof and schooling Spectacular.

Dominic Fike Shares His Own Experience With Police Racism
Dominic Fike speaks about his family’s experience with the police and racism, delaying his debut album and new single.
Dominic Fike was set to release the first single from his upcoming debut album this week but, because of everything that has happened, he chose to delay his music and join the fight to end systemic racism and police violence.
The 24-year-old recording artist wrote a lengthy post on social media, touching on his own experience with the police and how, because of a lie that an officer made up about him, he’s unable to live freely anymore.
“Last week, I was supposed to put out the first song from my debut album. Instead something much more important happened. People were forced to have a conversation that’s been long overdue,” says Dominic Fike. “It doesn’t feel right to release music today but it does feel right to continue this conversation.”

In the post, Fike speaks about his arrest and the eight months he spent in jail. He says that he made it a point to not be an aggressor with police, yet he still caught a felony battery on law enforcement charge after trying to defuse a situation between the cops and his younger brother.
“I interfered and the cop made up a story to fit his actions. The judge thought I was better off with this shit on my record,” he said. “I’m lucky I could do music, since no one will ever hire me. I can’t tour in the UK. I can’t go to so many places, because of a decision this asshole made out of spite. None of these decisions were based on trying to help us, they wanted us to disappear.”
In the address, Fike says that his father was just put away for twenty years and that his family has always been targeted by police. He also calls out his hometown of Naples, Florida for spending $200 million on police funding despite having one of the lowest crime rates in the country. Instead, he urges them to use the money on “health and mental hygiene.”

There are always rumors surrounding new Drake-OVO collaborations and today, we got a pretty interesting one courtesy of @sneakerfiles and @zsneakerheadz.
According to the Instagram post below, Drake is rumored to be dropping an OVO x Nike Air Force 1 Low collab in 2021. There is no official word yet from Nike on this matter although it is believed that the shoe will be a basic white Air Force 1 with a gold OVO owl near the back heel. The post below features a photoshop rendering that gives us an idea of what the sneaker could potentially look like.
Most Drake collaborations have been in conjunction with Jordan Brand although a basic Nike design would certainly fit the OVO brand well. Air Force 1s are classic and the OVO owl fits perfectly on the basic silhouette. If these were to drop, the demand would be through the roof.
Stay tuned for updates on this potential collab as we will be sure to bring them to you.
