Drew Brees had the entire football world upset last week after his controversial stance on kneeling during the National Anthem. Brees labeled the act as disrespectful to the flag and the military which a sentiment that has certainly been shared by others in the past. Brees was quickly called out for his take and eventually, he apologized to his teammates and changed course. Brees seems to be in support of protesters now, and he is right back in the good graces of Saints fans.
Shannon Sharpe was incredibly critical of Brees' original stance and even told the quarterback to retire. Today on Undisputed, Sharpe revealed that he had a phone conversation with Brees and it was quite productive. Sharpe noted that he forgives Brees although he still wants him to follow through and continue being an advocate for social change.
"I said Drew, for one second we didn't want you to be Drew Brees, we wanted you to be one of us. What hurt the most is that it came from you. No white QB in the history of the NFL has had black support like you," Sharpe said. "I felt better after taking to Drew Brees. It took a lot of courage from him to reach out to me. I told Drew, 'Time will tell, but I'm in your corner because I believe you can help us get to where we need to be.'"
Brees' shift in opinion is a prime example of how important it is to have a dialog about these topics. A world in which people admit when they're wrong is a world we should all strive to live in.
Shannon Sharpe Goes In On Jake Fromm For Racist Statement
Shannon Sharpe had a lot to say about Jake Fromm's recent faux-pas.
Shannon Sharpe isn't shy to speak out when something bothers him and recently, he was given a perfect reason to voice his frustrations. Of course, with the death of George Floyd in mind, many are currently speaking out on racial injustice and how the system is working against black and brown people. Sharpe has been vocal about his feelings when it comes to this topic and with the latest news regarding Buffalo Bills QB Jake Fromm, he had extra reasons to be rightfully upset.
For those who don't know, leaked text messages showed Fromm speaking to his friend about guns and how only "elite white people" should have them. Fromm has since issued an apology but that didn't stop Sharpe from speaking his mind. As he explains in the video below, Fromm's comments are textbook racism and display a white person who believes he is owed something because of the color of his skin.
Sharpe went on to say that he never felt as though he was better than anybody based on race and that he always preferred to show how good he was based on his talent on the field. As for Fromm, Sharpe isn't sure what will happen to him and he certainly isn't sure whether or not he will get the trust of his teammates back.
Shannon Sharpe Unloads On Drew Brees, Tells Him To Retire
Shannon Sharpe dropped some truths on Drew Brees today.
Drew Brees has been in the news quite a bit over the last 24 hours thanks to his comments in regard to peaceful protesters. As he explained in a recent interview, kneeling during the National Anthem is disrespectful to the flag and is the wrong way to go about doing things. Fans and players were livid with Brees' comments and rightfully so, especially with everything going on. Protesting during the anthem is as peaceful as it gets but Brees feels like it is a slap in the face to service members.
Today on FS1's Undisputed, Shannon Sharpe went off on Brees and reminded him that there were thousands of black service members in World War 2 and that when they came back from war, they still weren't afforded equal rights. As Sharpe explained, black people still have a lot to fight for, and kneeling during the anthem is the perfect way to get people's attention without stirring up any violence.
Sharpe also went on to say that it is going to be very difficult for Brees to gain respect in the locker room moving forward and that it might be better for him to just retire. It's obviously a bold suggestion, especially since Brees has signed on for another season.
The fallout of Brees' comments will most likely continue well into the season so it should be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Shannon Sharpe Reveals His Top 5 Running Backs Of All Time
Shannon Sharpe had an interesting perspective on the best running backs ever.
When it comes to GOAT debates in football, it feels like the running back position is extremely disrespected. People will talk about quarterbacks, wide receivers, and sometimes even defensive players. However, running backs are that one position that seems to lose out on a lot of the love that they truly deserve. Well, today on FS1's Undisputed, Shannon Sharpe tried to change that as he gave his list of best running backs ever, and it's a pretty interesting one to say the least.
At number one, Sharpe put Barry Sanders, while Walter Payton is in second. In third place, we have Jim Brown while Emmitt Smith and Eric Dickerson take over the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. What made this list interesting is Sharpe's admission that had it not been for his alleged off the field transgressions, OJ Simpson would have cracked the top 5.
Interestingly enough, Skip Bayless actually agreed with a lot of what Sharpe was saying here which just goes to show how agreeable the list was. Either way, there are certainly some people out there who are going to want to debate this so if you have a differing opinion, go ahead and sound off in the comments below.
Shannon Sharpe Reveals What Horace Grant Told Him About MJ
Horace Grant had some extra details about Michael Jordan to divulge to Shannon Sharpe.
Perhaps one of the wildest stories to come out of the "The Last Dance" so far is the fact that Michael Jordan used to withhold food from teammate Horace Grant if he played a bad game. Yes, that's right, MJ used to make sure Grant would miss meals if he played poorly. This is a pretty insane tactic although it's a toughness that got Jordan his six NBA titles.
After speaking about this subject on an episode of FS1's Undisputed, Shannon Sharpe received a phone call from Grant who divulged some extra details about Jordan. As Grant explained to Sharpe, Jordan would keep bullying players until they finally stood up for themselves. Grant also said that he has tremendous respect for Jordan although he was upset with how the legend went about keeping him in shape.
"Horace told me: 'If you didn't confront Mike, he would ride you every day, all day, all the time. You had to stand up for yourself. I didn't have a problem with Mike the player, I had a problem with how he tried to motivate me,'" Sharpe said.
Sharpe previously noted that if Jordan had taken his food away from him, he would have fought him every single day as messing with someone's food is the ultimate sign of disrespect.
Nowadays, you would never see a player taking meals away from a teammate. At least not with the 24-hour sports news cycle we have in 2020.
Skip Bayless Savagely Lists LeBron James’ Playoff Failures
Skip Bayless went on yet another anti-LeBron James rant much to the chagrin of Shannon Sharpe.
Skip Bayless has a hatred for LeBron James that isn't exactly justified. The only real reason why Skip could hate LeBron that much is for clout and attention. Luckily for Bayless, it works very well for him. The man has been known as a LeBron hater for years and his anti-James rants always seem to go viral on Twitter. One thing that Bayless loves to harp on is LeBron's failures in the playoffs, particularly in 2011 when he had a horrible NBA Finals series against the Dallas Mavericks.
Today on Undisputed, Bayless went on a full seven-minute rant about LeBron's failures and Shannon Sharpe wasn't having any of it. Skip decided to make a list of everything LeBron has done wrong and it was quite eye-roll inducing.
"2013: He LeBricks a 3, rebound out to Bosh, who kicks it in the corner to Ray Allen. It's one shot for LeBron's NBA Finals life. 2 years before in 2011, LeBron suffered the all-time meltdown in a Finals," Bayless said.
It's bizarre to see someone be so negative especially when we are in the midst of a pandemic. Humanity seems to be at the top of everyone's but when it comes to Bayless, LeBron seems to be living rent-free at the top of his thoughts.
Hopefully, when this pandemic is over, Skip begins to see the error of his ways.
Shannon Sharpe Reveals Shoe Kobe Bryant Gifted Him In 2004
Kobe Bryant blessed Shannon Sharpe with some Lakers-themed sneakers once upon a time.
Kobe Bryant will forever be in the hearts of sports fans around the world. He burst onto the scene in the late 90s and eventually took over the entire NBA with Shaq by his side. Unfortunately, he passed away way too soon back in January and fans and teammates have been mourning him ever since. One of Kobe's biggest fans was none other than NFL legend, Shannon Sharpe. The Broncos tight end has always been one to champion the Lakers on social media and he's also quick to show off his sneaker legend.
Today, Sharpe took to Twitter where he showed off a pair of kicks Kobe gifted him back in 2004. As you can see in the tweet below, they are a black, purple, and gold pair of Nike Air Trainer Huaraches. What makes the pair all that much cooler is the fact that Kobe autographed them.
Based on their condition, it's clear that they have been worn although it's unclear as to whether or not it was Kobe or Shannon who donned them. Regardless, this is a dope piece of Kobe memorabilia that we're sure Sharpe will hold near and dear to his heart for as long as he lives.
Let us know what you think of these, in the comments below.
Skip Bayless & Shannon Sharpe Offer Somber Reaction To NBA Hiatus
The NBA's decision to suspend the season has sent shockwaves throughout the sports world.
Late last night, the NBA decided that all operations would be suspended due to one of its players contracting the Coronavirus. Of course, that player was Rudy Gobert who then went on to transmit the virus to Donovan Mitchell. These developments are quite shocking and have sent the sports world into a complete state of panic. Now, the NBA will wait and see what to do next as many of its players and teams enter a quarantine protocol.
This morning, numerous sports talk shoes are reacting to the news, including FS1's Undisputed which is hosted by Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe. Bayless and Sharpe are known for their arguments but on today's show, they were in agreement on pretty well every single subject. The two had a somber tone as they discussed last night's events and it was apparent that they were shaken up by it all.
Bayless noted that this was one of the most shocking sporting events in recent memory and that he was quite shocked by it all. He even admitted that he never really thought the virus was a problem until Gobert was diagnosed with it. Sharpe on the other hand, agreed with the NBA's decision as it was conducive to public health.
Stay tuned for updates regarding the league's next steps as we will be sure to bring them to you.
Skip Bayless Compares Tom Brady Free Agency To Michael Jordan
Skip Bayless has some strong opinions when it comes to the potential surrounding a Tom Brady exodus from New England.
Tom Brady will become a free agent for the first time in his career next month. The six-time Super Bowl-champion has been with the New England Patriots for 20 seasons now and it would be hard to imagine him wearing any other jersey than New England's. Regardless, it's beginning to look like Brady's time in New England is approaching its end.
Numerous pundits have been contemplating the ramifications of such a move. Skip Bayless of FS1's Undisputed is one of them and on today's show, he went off on the possibility of Brady hitting the open market. Bayless even compared the situation to that of Michael Jordan's when he became a free agent after winning a championship with the Chicago Bulls back in 1998.
"If in fact Tom Brady hits the open market on March 18th at 4pm ET, it is going to be chaos, hysteria, the sky falling all around the league," Bayless explained. "It's like Michael Jordan becoming a free agent after winning the championship in 1998."
It remains to be seen what Brady will decide although some analysts think the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders are the two likeliest options. It would certainly be bizarre to see him in either of those jerseys but admittedly, the morbid curiosity is definitely at an all-time high.
Shannon Sharpe Offers Harsh Assessment Of Tom Brady: Watch
Shannon Sharpe believes there are better older quarterbacks out there.
Shannon Sharpe used to play in the NFL which makes him particularly well-equipped to talk about other players and whether or not they have what it takes to still play at a high level. Sharpe currently cohosts FS1’s Undisputed alongside Skip Bayless and the former Denver Bronco has been known to bring some hot takes to the table. On Friday, that’s exactly what he did while talking about Tom Brady. The QB will be a free agent this season and has a big decision to make in regards to where he goes next.
As Sharpe explains in the clip below, he believes Brady has actually hit the end of the road and that he barely has what it takes to be a sustainable quarterback. In fact, Sharpe would take Brees over Brady right now. Of course, Sharpe admits that Brady was better in his prime but as it stands, Brees is more serviceable.
“Moving forward, Drew Brees is a better, more valuable (quarterback)… because I believe he has more in the tank,” Sharpe said. “Tom Brady is on fumes. If I’m him, the next gas station, I’m not passing it. I’m going to fill up, because sometimes you’re like, ‘No, I can get something cheaper down the road.’ Don’t you pass that gas station, Tom, because it’s almost over.”
Sharpe’s comments come off as pretty harsh but he definitely makes an interesting point. Say what you will about Brady’s weapons last year, he simply wasn’t playing at a high enough level for the Patriots to go far. With this in mind, Brady could find this upcoming season to be quite difficult.
