The 2020 NBA All-Star weekend was filled with some memorable moments, for better or for worse but people surely won't be forgetting Chaka Khan's performance during the National Anthem. If you'll recall, the 2018 All-Star Game was led by Fergie's rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner that produced a sequence of reactions that continue to live on as everyday-use memes. Unfortunately, things were equally shakey last night when Chaka Khan hit the stage to sing the National Anthem.
No one is disputing that Chaka Khan is a legend because she, in fact, is a breathing definition of the word but, as the saying goes, less is more and this time, it sounded like she simply overdid it. Immediately, the timeline was hit with a variety of reactions from praises to straight roasts. Many began to compare Chaka Khan's rendition to Fergie's rendition, although many were quick to defend the Queen Of Funk.
Despite the polarizing performance at the top of the game, it did turn out to be another successful weekend for the NBA. The All-Star Game included the introduction of a brand-new format for the game where the first three quarters were regarded as their own mini-games. However, the final quarter would add up the score from the previous three quarters with the winning team determined by who reaches 157 points first.
Peep the reactions to Chaka Khan's performance below.
Demi Lovato Predicted She’d Sing National Anthem At Super Bowl A Decade Ago
Her mind.
It was almost exactly a decade ago that Demi Lovato accurately predicted her future. The singer will be opening the Super Bowl on Sunday night by singing the National Anthem prior to kickoff, which she honestly could have told you was going to happen a whole ten years ago. In a tweet from February 7th, 2010, Demi wrote, "One day, I'm gonna sing the national anthem at a super bowl. Onnnee dayyy...."
Well would you look at that. Funny how things work out. Demi shared a screenshot of the tweet on Instagram along with the official promo for her National Anthem performance to show just how right she was.
"Stealing this from @scooterbraun," she captioned the post, referring to her manager who posted the screenshot on his account first. "Dreams really do come true y’all. ?????." On Thursday, Demi shared a photo on Instagram indicating that she had landed in town for the big event.
"I’m here in Miami!" she captioned the photo. "Ready for the Super Bowl!! Let’s do this!! ???" It looks like Demi was making the most of her trip to Miami, as she was spotted leaving a pre-Super Bowl event at E11EVEN nightclub with a mystery man early Saturday morning.
Swae Lee Reveals What He Hopes To Do At The Super Bowl One Day
Swae Lee is dreaming big.
Thanks to some phenomenal play from the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, both teams are now in the Super Bowl which will take place on February 2nd in Miami. These two teams are truly the best in the NFL and fans can’t wait to see who comes away with the big win. There are plenty of big festivities planned including the halftime shoe and National Anthem. This year, the halftime show is being performed by Demi Lovato who is making a comeback following her overdose in 2018.
There are plenty of musicians who would love to be in Lovato’s position, including Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd. During a recent interview with TMZ, Swae Lee admitted that he would love to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Of course, he’ll have to wait until next year if he wants to do it.
Swae Lee certainly has the voice for the Star-Spangled Banner so we’d be excited to see this actually take place. Members of the hip-hop community rarely get shine when it comes to National Anthems which means Swae Lee’s inclusion would be groundbreaking.
Let us know if you’d like to Swae Lee perform the anthem at the Super Bowl next year. Also, tell us who you think is going to win the big game.
