Though Matt Reeves' highly anticipated flick The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) in the titular role, has been put on hold during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the director has decided to shed some light on his first foray into Gotham City. In an interview with Nerdist, Reeves confirmed that he had no intention of making his film a traditional origin story, though he did desire to keep Bruce Wayne's roots and internal conflicts at the forefront.
"I wanted to do not an origin tale, but a tale that would still acknowledge his origins, in that it formed who he is," he explains. "Like this guy, he’s majorly struggling, and this is how he’s trying to rise above that struggle. But that doesn’t mean that he even fully understands, you know. It’s that whole idea of the shadow self and what’s driving you, and how much of that you can incorporate, and how much of it you’re doing that you’re unaware of.”
And while Pattinson's Batman will be facing off against the likes of Colin Ferrel's Penguin and Paul Dano's Riddler, fans know that Gotham City is as much a character as any member of the rogue's gallery. Citing the ongoing corruption plaguing Batman's home turf, Reeves made sure to draw a parallel with the present-day real-world state of affairs. "That feels very current. I think it always does," he reflects. "There’s almost no time when you can’t do a story about corruption. But today, it still seems incredibly resonant and maybe, from my perspective, maybe more so than maybe at other time.”
As of now, it's unclear as to how long The Batman will be delayed for -- it was originally meant to be released on June 25th, 2021, though that will almost certainly change. Are you excited to see Matt Reeves' "humanistic" take on the caped crusader?
"The Batman" Shoot Halted For Two Weeks Due To Coronavirus
“The Batman” production has been put on a temporary two-week hiatus by Warner Bros. as a result of the growing threat of coronavirus.
The shooting for The Batman will be put on pause and (hopefully) recommence in two weeks, due to the pervasive spread of coronavirus. The film industry has been in shambles ever since COVID-19, aka the novel coronavirus, reared its ugly head and posed a severe threat to the safety of the whole population, forcing production companies to delay film shoots and releases in an effort to prevent the spread of the deadly disease. The newest victim of these unfortunate circumstances was the latest instalment of the Batman franchise, simply titled The Batman. Shooting for the DCEU film has been put on a two-week hiatus, while Warner Bros “continue[s] to monitor the situation closely.” The Batman is being filmed in England, which has recently seen a dramatic rise in confirmed cases of coronavirus, leading the Trump administration to extend the United States’ European travel ban to include the U.K. and Ireland.

In this iteration of the famous comic figure’s story, Robert Pattinson will step into the role of the beloved superhero, with Zoë Kravitz starring as Catwoman. The film joins other shoots suspended under the advisement of government and health officials in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, including Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley project. One of the stars of the Elvis movie, Tom Hanks, tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week, along with his wife, Rita Wilson, while they were in Australia shooting the film.
"The Batman" Star Zoe Kravitz Reveals Her "Intense" Training To Play Catwoman
Being a villain isn’t easy.
Playing Catwoman is a legendary role. Many classic ladies have donned the outfit, including Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, and Anne Hathaway. Now, Zoe Kravitz is getting her turn at the feline villain. Zoe will be starring alongside Robert Robinson in The Batman, which is Matt Reeves’ reboot of the franchise. Ben Affleck stepped away from the film and Reeves decided to take it in a new direction, scaling back the years to make it a 90s flick. The young Batman will be a contrast to Affleck’s old one, and Zoe’s Selina Kyle will undoubtedly bring a new twist to the character.
During an interview on the Questlove Supreme podcast, Zoe opened up about training for the iconic role. “It’s pretty intense. We started shooting two weeks ago, but before that I was in London for two months, just getting in shape, training, learning fights,” she stated. Back when she was cast in the role, Zoe spoke to Variety about the pressure she feels from fans. “I was excited when I got the role, and usually when you get a job the people who are excited about it are you, your parents, your agent, your friends and that’s kind of it,” she explained. “But when the press release came, I got more text messages and calls than I’ve gotten on my birthday, on my wedding day. All of a sudden, the reality began to sink in about what this means not only to me, but to everybody else culturally — and the fans of this universe are so dedicated and opinionated.”

Ben Affleck Reaffirms His Stance On Playing Batman Again
That’ll be a no from me…
Ben Affleck is not ready to jump back into the Batsuit. The veteran actor played The Dark Knight in three films, Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Suicide Squad. He quit after having a mental break and headed to rehab for alcohol once again. Sober and happy, Affleck is on the road promoting his new film The Way Back. The plot of the film follows a widowed alcoholic trying to redeem himself as a basketball coach for youth. In a recent interview DeWayne Hamby, Affleck is asked whether he would dawn the cape and cowl ever again.
He stumbles over his words at first before stating, “I had an opportunity to write and direct and kind of star in a standalone Batman, and it just happened at a point in my life where I kind of lost interest in those stories.” Sometimes, it looks like he is trying to convince himself more than he is trying to convince that interviewer. “I’ll go see Robert’s,” he continued, “I think it’s going to be great, he’s great.” When Hamby suggests that Affleck plays Batman 20 years from now in an adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns he seems willing. Maybe we will see Affleck back in the Batcave in the future.

Robert Pattinson’s "The Batman" First Look: New Batsuit
Robert Pattinson's batsuit in "The Batman" was revealed by director Matt Reeves in a camera test sneak peak of the DCEU film.
"The Batman"'s new batsuit was revealed by director Matt Reeves on Thursday, when he shared a camera test of Robert Pattinson as the title character on social media. In the brief clip, fans get a glimpse of Pattinson as Batman donning the latest version of the DC superhero's famous costume.
Reeves also revealed that the score playing during the red-tinted clip was crafted by his frequent collaborator and Academy Award-winning composer, Michael Giacchino. In October, Reeves orchestrated a mock proposal to Giacchino in order to lock down the composer for the project. The Batman will mark Reeves' and Giacchino's fifth time working together.
As for the costume itself, fans are already speculating that one of the details of the latest version of Batman's suit has some significant origin relations. It's been suggested that the bat symbol on the chest of the costume is made up of the pieces of the gun that killed Bryce Wayne's parents.
Others are noting the undeniable similarities between this batsuit and the costume worn by Marvel superhero, Daredevil, in the former Netflix series.
Starring alongside Pattinson in The Batman are Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Ferrell as The Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson, and more. Reeves announced a few weeks ago that filming had officially begun. The Batman is set to be released on June 25, 2021.
Robert Pattinson’s "The Batman" Officially Began Shooting In London
Robert Pattinson is officially "The Batman"
It's official, Ben Affleck's reign as The Bat has officially come to an end as production for The Batman (2021) starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne began Monday (Jan. 27). This shouldn't come as a surprise for comic book-themed music fans as Warner Bros. and company had revealed that the former Twilight star would be donning the infamous black suit early last year. However, suiting up as one of the world's most coveted superheroes comes an extreme amount of criticism.
On Monday afternoon, the film's director, Matt Reeves, took to Twitter to reveal the film's first clapboard revealing production officially underway on scene number seventeen. The Tweet captioned, "#DayOne cc:@GreigfraserD," featured a mention of the film's producer, Greig Fraser, and caused quite a stir on Twitter as various heavy-hitters within the film industry commented on the photo wishing Reeves and his team luck.
While plot details for The Batman have been few and far between, it has been verified that the timelines from previous Batman films will not be acknowledged in the upcoming franchise reboot.
While the storyline remains a mystery at the moment, the cast starring Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Paul Dano as The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, does provide fans with insight on how impactful this film can be for the DC Universe.
Warner Bros has proposed a June 25, 2021 premiere date for The Batman.
With the production company also preparing for the release of the Harley Quinn spin-off, Birds of Prey, next month, the studio house is attempting to establish themselves as a ble competitor as Marvel this decade. However, with Robert Pattinson's extensive body of work as evidence of his ability, do you believe the 33-year-old actor has the range to embody the persona of Batman?

Kravitz emphasized the character’s strength and power through femininity as opposed to Batman’s typically masculine approach: “I think Catwoman, Selina Kyle represents really strong femininity, and I’m excited to dive into that.” She added, “I think femininity represents power, and I think it’s a different kind of power than masculine power. That’s something that’s really interesting about Batman and Catwoman. I think Batman represents a very kind of masculine power, and Catwoman represents very feminine power — slightly more complicated, and softer, too. I like the idea that you can be soft, you can be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous.”
She also spoke during a panel for the upcoming Hulu series, High Fidelity. She praised Michelle Pfeiffer’s take on Catwoman in particular: “I think Catwoman is an iconic character,” she said. “I was never into a lot of comic books, but that world was always really intriguing to me. And then, of course, Michelle Pfeiffer — her performance has always been super inspiring to me. It just felt iconic.”
Kravitz’s next project, High Fidelity, drops on Hulu, February 14th.
"The Batman" Filming Location For Gotham City Reportedly Revealed
Gotham city won’t be in America.
DC fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Batman starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role. The film also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell and Penguin, Paul Dano as Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Director Matt Reeves will take a younger look at Bruce Wayne as he first dawns the cape. In the past, filmmakers have used Chicago and New York as skylines to represent Gotham City. This time though, it looks like Gotham will be represented overseas.
According to the Daily Record, Bruce Wayne’s home will be filmed in Glasgow, Scotland. “The big-budget production will descend on the nation next month to shoot parts of the film on Glasgow’s streets,” the Daily Record reports. “Parts of the city will be made to look like Batman’s fictional home, giving residents a front-row seat for the movie. Filming will also be the first opportunity for eagle-eyed DC Comics fans to catch a glimpse of the new Batmobile. Shooting for the film has already begun in London and filming is expected to start in Glasgow in late February.” They also got a quote from an unnamed source, who stated, “Glasgow will be turned into Gotham City and, with the city’s architecture, it’s expected to look great in the new film. It will also be the first time for DC fans to see the new Batmobile so there will be lots of them prepared to stand in the rain hoping they can spot it. Anyone who sees the Batmobile around town will probably look twice.”
