Pras Michel, one-third of the legendary Fugees crew, showed up to Manhattan Family Court on Monday (March 16) in a complete Tyvek Suit. The Haitian-American emcee was not attempting to be humorous in the event of this current national crisis but chose to wear the suit due to an intern at the courthouse who had tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) last week. Prior to his diagnosis, the legal intern had spent a total of two weeks in the Manhattan Family Court’s 60 Lafayette building without knowledge of being infected prior to getting accurately tested. With that said, the “Ghetto Supastar” rapper was taking no chances in his latest court appearance in regards to the $100,000-plus he owes his ex-wife, Angela  Severiano in unpaid child support.

According to The New York Post, the state of New York will temporarily discontinue new jury trials and postpone non-essential court functions in an attempt to contain the virus. As for Pras and his hazmat suit, he appeared in court on Monday to prove that he paid his ex-wife the $20,000 he had previously failed to show proof of payment for which resulted in his temporary incarceration. During the beginning of the proceedings, Judge Carol Goldstein noted the surreal scene, stating:

“Let me just put on the record. The father came to court head-to-toe in full hazmat gear, full booties, full outfit with gloves, hood and a mask.” 

After relieving himself of his facemask, Pras was able to reveal to Judge Goldstein that he fulfilled his $20K child support payment in a total of three cash payments to Moneygram, which would, in turn, forward the funds to a collection agency for his ex-wife and their son, Landon. The New Jersey emcee produced the receipts in court providing proof of the payment. 

The judge found Michel’s proof sufficient enough to allow him to return in May with proof of the next $15,000 payment. Pras originally owed Severiano a total of $127,000 in unpaid child support, he now owes a total of $102,000 after the judge subtracted an additional $5,000, according to Page Six. 

According to Severiano’s attorney, Robert Wallack, “Angela still hasn’t received any money yet.”

Following the court proceeding, Pras took to his Instagram account to flex on his haters while sporting his Tyvek suit, captioning multiple photos:

“I want to first thank NY family court for understanding my situation, but I want all the fake news and everyone to know I’m fully committed to taking care of my son and I Am not nor ever was a deadbeat dad.”

Pras then went on to reveal that he flew across the country to make sure he appeared in court and detailed that his outfit wasn’t a fashion statement but for his own and other people’s safety, as he continued:

“I’m in my Chanel hazmat suit to assure the health safety of both me and people around the court.”

On Monday (March 9), the Fugees’ very own, Pras Michel, was taken into custody for unpaid child support. The 47-year-old  failing to provide proof to the Manhattan Family Court that he had followed through with a $20,000 court-ordered child support payment. For months, Pras and his ex-wife, Angela Severiano have been battling out in court for payments for their son, Landon. In the past, Severiano claims that the Brooklyn-bred emcee had been hiding funds in order to avoid making his payments in a timely manner. Pras refuted his ex-wife’s allegations claiming he would be able to make his payments if the federal government wouldn’t have seized millions of dollars worth of his assets.

Pras allegedly owes Severino an approximate total of $127,000 in unpaid child support and was told to provide his ex-wife with a lump sum check of $20K and bring proof of the payment to court by their next hearing. Unfortunately, Severiano did not receive the mandated funds and Pras was only able to provide a tracking number for a check he claimed a friend had mailed to his ex-wife on his behalf. 

During the court session, Judge Carol Goldstein was not pleased with Michel’s efforts stating:

“That’s not what I consider proof. You do not even know what day it was sent.” Judge Goldstein then turned to the rapper’s lawyer, Samuel Feldman, and added, “I understand that your client believes that somebody posted the money. The tracking number doesn’t work.”

The judge then demanded the bailiff to take the “Ghetto Supastar” performer into custody a $5,000 bond, pending another hearing next week. 

Angela Severiano’s lawyer, Robert Wallack, has repeatedly requested for the court system to jail Michel. Following the hearing, Wallack admonished Pras’ behavior, declaring:

“(His) excuses are nonsense and he deserves to sit in jail until he pays my client the more than $125,000 he owes her.”

During a court hearing last month, Wallack brought up Michel’s $10 million watch collection and urged for the court to jail the rapper. Finally, his wish has been granted but his client is still without payment. While this process has been a difficult one for both Pras and Severiano, hopefully, all parties involved can come to an agreement for the sake of their child.   

It’s been a rough couple of years for former-Fugees rapper, Prakazrel ‘Pras’ Michel who accused of laundering over $70 million into the United States in 2018, had the United States government seize close to $40 million of his assets, and has been in legal dispute with his ex-wife, Angela Severiano, over unpaid child support since last year. Recently, it was revealed that Pras owes approximately $127,000 in unpaid child support but allegedly still has the means to support his luxurious lifestyle. Now, after the most recent court proceedings, this past Monday (Feb. 10), at the New York County Manhattan Courthouse, the “Ghetto Superstar” rapper allegedly lashed out at a New York Post photographer that was taking pictures of him outside of the judicial building.

According to Page Six, Pras Michel lunged towards New York Post photographer, R. Umar Abbasi and broke part of his camera after he attempted to take photos of the New Jersey emcee. Abbasi was able to capture the exact moment Michel made his move towards his camera with an outstretched hand and a sense of irritation in his eyes. According to the photographer, Michel was able to bend the bayonet of the camera where the lens attaches to the body of the camera. 

In a short exchange with Page Six, Abbasi stated:

“He pretended he was going down the stairs and suddenly leaped and grabbed my lens.” The photographer continued, “He would have hit me if the court officers didn’t stop him.”

Earlier during the court proceedings, Pras detailed that The Post’s coverage of his child support case has “caused him embarrassment amongst his peers” and that his son is seeing his “father being bashed by the media.”

Severiano’s attorney, Robert Wallack responded: “This case… isn’t about the New York Post. This is about Pras’ failure to pay child support.” Wallack urged the court to jail Pras behind his unpaid child support, but instead, the judge ordered Michel to pay $20,000 to Severiano by March 2. Judge Carol Goldstein stated that it was “harder to raise the money in jail.”
