DJs React To “World War 3”
In true cynical, millennial fashion, reactions to this past weekend’s assassination of Qasem Soleimani, a major general in Iran, were mostly memes about World War 3. It’s not entirely surprising given the state of the society we live in today — and especially the state of Twitter — but it’s a little harrowing nonetheless.
The opportunity to join in on the dance music side wasn’t passed up by the likes of Bleep Bloop, Diplo, Subtronics, and others. This does not make them bad people, that isn’t the point of this article; rather, we’re all f*cking terrified and we’re masking it with memes. Welcome to 2020.
Take a look at some of the DJs joining in below.

Meek Mill Dubbed A Hypocrite By DJ Akademiks For Tweet About US Soldiers
DJ Akademiks doesn't agree that being at war is like being "in the trenches."
When Meek Mill shouted out the soldiers who fight for the safety of the United States on a daily basis, he did so with good intentions in mind. With all the chatter about a potential World War III (which likely won't happen) and the troubling reports concerning the USA and Iran, Meek Mill just wanted to send some positivity to the men and women defending us across borders. The Philadelphia artist and DJ Akademiks, a popular hip-hop commentator, have an interesting history. Previously, Meek has gone after the YouTuber for his continued support of Tekashi 6ix9ine. Now, the tables have turned and AK is the one criticizing Mill for his comments on the military.
Meek Mill compared the figurative "trenches" to the literal trenches used to hide out in war zones, noting that they're very similar in that you never know when/if you'll be attacked or lose your life. DJ Akademiks believes that, by sending that tweet out, Meek was being a self-fulfilling narcissist who contradicted himself another time.
"This is pretty much the most self-indulgent, narcissistic tweet you could probably have about this situation because, while we're trying to give some light to the men and women who serve in our armed forces, Meek Mill had to say that being in the streets is like being at war," said DJ Akademiks in a new video. AK goes on to say that much of what goes on in the streets is done through crime, noting that US soldiers donate their lives away from their families to protect us all instead. He also speaks on Meek's dedication to prison reform, suggesting that the man is a hypocrite for some of his comments.

Nigerian Government Responds To Cardi B’s Call For Citizenship: "Doors Are Open"
The Nigerian government is ready for Cardi's return.
The sudden fever to be anywhere but the United States in the wake of suspected aftermath of Donald Trump's latest airstrike in Iran is not immune to celebrity status, and Cardi B was among the most vocal public figures in a seemingly joking interpretation of the situation.
Saturday, the rapper took to Twitter to declare that she would be applying for Nigerian citizenship as a safety measure in the event that total war broke out between the middle eastern nation and her home country. Soon enough, however, her plea for citizenship was met with an immediate reaction from the chairman of Nigeria's diaspora commission.
"@iamcardib As one in charge of the Diaspora for Ngr, We can’t wait to receive you again," penned Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a tweet. "Our doors are open, sister. And you need to talk a walk through the Door of Return in Badagry. It’s an indescribable experience."
U.S. Drone Strike That Killed General Soleimani Shown In Released Footage: Report
The footage was released an an independant Iraqi television network.
It was revealed on Thursday that President Trump had ordered a drone airstrike on Iran that resulted in the death of the country's commander of the Quds Force, Major General Qassem Soleimani. The strike reportedly occurred at the Baghdad International Airport where Soleimani was riding in his vehicle, and now, alleged footage of the strike has been released. Per TMZ, a video from the Al-Ahed channel, an independent Iraqi television network, shows the blast occurring, though the clip has yet to be confirmed by other major news outlets as verified footage of the attack. TMZ also included a photo of the aftermath of the strike, in which a vehicle near Baghdad International Airport can be seen burning. Three rockets were said to have been launched at the site in the strike. Six people were reportedly killed in total.
The announcement of the attack and subsequent death of Soleimani on Thursday sent many U.S. citizens into a panic. Many believe that this direct targeting of the Iranian commander is sure to heighten tensions between the U.S. and the Middle East, and Iran has already promised retaliatory attacks. These fears from Americans even escalated into claims that this move would result in World War III.
Waka Flocka Sympathizes With Troops Amidst Jokes About World War 3
Waka’s not messing with the memes.
While the President of The United States tweets out threats to Iran like he’s 50 Cent trying to tear down French Montana, many are concerned about the lives put at stake due to Trump’s bravado. A U.S. airstrike has taken out the top Iranian military commander, Qassem Soleimani, and it seems inevitable that there will be some form of retaliation for this. An extreme prediction has been that things will escalate into World War 3. Twitter was quick to spin this frightful fate into jokes about draft-dodging and so on because Twitter can’t take anything seriously.
Not everyone felt this was an appropriate occasion for memes, though. Waka Flocka Flame has taken to posting inspirational quotes and random thoughts on his Instagram page. “These war memes funny and jokes until you have a friend or family member leaving for war,” Waka wrote in white text over a black background. “My heart goes out to the 7,000 soldiers leaving and I’m also praying for the people in Iran.”
Waka wasn’t the only rapper to publicly empathize with the troops. Meek Mill tweeted: “One time for the soldiers that really gotta go to war and put ya life on the line …. we from the trenches so we know the feeling of having ya life on the line 24/7 not knowing if you gone make it home!”
Joey Bada$$ Wants No Part In Potential World War III: "I WILL NOT BE YOUR SOLDIER"
Joey Bada$$ will not be partaking in any sort of draft.
After President Donald Trump ordered a drone strike on Iran killing Qasem Soleimani, the internet is fearful that we're nearing the commencement of World War III. If you've been logged onto Twitter for even the briefest period of time this morning, you're fully aware of all the chatter surrounding Iran, a potential war, and Trump. There are plenty of memes being shared, making us giggle in the face of danger. Of course, people are worried that if a major war is declared, we will be involved in a draft and New York rapper Joey Bada$$ is already voicing his displeasure at that possibility.

Taking to Twitter to comment on the madness happening in our world, Joey Badmon apologized to the United States of America before announcing that he will have no part in the war everyone believes is imminent. "SORRY AMERIKKKA BUT I WILL NOT BE YOUR SOLIDER," he wrote. Unfortunately, Joey, like the rest of us, may not even have a say in whether or not he will fight in a potential World War III. Hopefully, we don't ever reach that point.
What do you think about the airstrike Trump ordered on Iran, and the subsequent threats uttered against the country?
