TOMORA on Soundtrack Success and World Cup Rivalry

The collaborative project TOMORA, featuring Norwegian art-pop phenomenon Aurora and The Chemical Brothers legend Tom Rowlands, has become an unexpected fixture of the 2026 World Cup. With their debut album Come Closer earning critical acclaim, the duo has found their music at the heart of the tournament’s television coverage in the UK, soundtracking the excitement of the beautiful game.

Speaking to NME, the pair reflected on the inclusion of their tracks in the BBC and ITV broadcasts. “We both liked the idea of this place called ‘Somewhere Else’,” they explained regarding their single of the same name, which features prominently in BBC trailers. “We always pictured it written on a mysterious door that you could open and end up somewhere beautiful. Maybe just the place you need. We hear birds from inside this door, we put them in the song. It’s lovely.”

The duo’s track ‘In A Minute’ has also seen significant airplay across ITV’s promotional spots. Discussing the track’s unique vocal layers, the band noted, “These voices are quite eager, the voices constantly singing during the whole song. We don’t want you to forget about them. Somehow they are important. It’s because of them and after they disappear that you get to where you need to be. In a minute you’ll see the sun, this is important to remember too.”

Beyond the music, the pair expressed their genuine enthusiasm for the tournament. “We love football and the way it celebrates and unites people, like music,” they shared. “It’s wonderful to see everyone so emotive and expressive with their emotions. This makes us happy.”

The timing of their success coincides with a high-stakes moment for the duo personally: a knock-out match between their respective home nations, England and Norway. While Aurora remains confident in Norway’s status as an “underdog that you should fear,” Rowlands maintains that England’s chances of reaching the final are “extremely high.”

Come Closer by TOMORA is available now, with the duo set to embark on a UK and European headline tour this October.
