Fontaines D.C. brought out Kurt Vile for a special performance of ‘Roman Holiday’ during their headline set at La Route Du Rock. The Dublin band closed out the final night of the festival at Fort de Saint-Père in France on August 15, while Vile and his band, The Violators, had performed on the same stage earlier that day.
The collaboration was a poignant moment for the band, as Fontaines frontman Grian Chatten has previously noted that the Skinty Fia track was substantially inspired by Vile’s own musical style. During their set, the band also showcased new material, including the tracks ‘Marianne’ and ‘Six Shot Morning’, which were recently debuted during their first headline show of 2026.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track in a previous interview with Rolling Stone, Chatten explained, “I’d say that song was quite inspired by Kurt Vile. I saw him play in Croatia two years ago when we were playing there and I envied him. The sun was going down and he was able to stand there and chill out.”
The two acts have crossed paths before, notably contributing to the 2021 Velvet Underground tribute album I’ll Be Your Mirror. As Fontaines D.C. continues to work on their fifth studio album, their recent festival appearances serve as a testament to their enduring creative momentum and their deep respect for the artists who have influenced their sound.
