Jess Glynne has revealed that she once refused to give one of her songs to Rihanna in a new interview. The ‘Rather Be’ singer recently spoke with You magazine about a variety of topics, including one instance where Glynne was approached by Roc Nation co-founder and vice chairperson Jay Brown on whether her song, ‘Promise Me’, a ballad co-written with super-producer Greg Kurstin, could be used by Rihanna. “I said, ‘No, you’re not sending it to Rihanna.’ I mean, it was the biggest compliment, but I was like, ‘It’s my song, and I’m an artist, too’,” Glynne recounted. Advertisement She later expressed that conflicts between her and her label’s interests eventually pushed her to fire her management team. Recalling a meeting where they discussed sending her song to Rihanna, Glynne said: “I left that meeting and thought, ‘Who’s to say I can’t fire my team?’” She would later go on to sign with Roc Nation, and stated that she eventually met Jay Z and Beyoncé personally, calling them “very humble human beings, sweet, charming”. She added that she was proud of her own tenacity, stating: “I’m like, “You did all of that on your own. You took all those meetings…. Read More →

Montreal could introduce 24-hour nightlife in 2024

Montreal could be introducing 24-hour nightlife in a new policy in Spring 2024, according to a new report. Earlier this month, Radio-Canada published an article reporting that Montreal’s local government is intending to ratify “long-awaited” nightlife policies that would be followed by “concrete action”. One notable effect of these policies is the designation of an area where nightlife businesses can operate “24 hours a day, 365 days a year”. Reportedly, the Latin Quarter is being considered as the first area where the pilot project will be launched. The area, which was once bustling with cultural activity, has been increasingly abandoned by tenants in recent years, a phenomenon which the new policies aim to address. Venues in the area currently open until 3AM. Advertisement Authorities are allegedly intending to allow nightlife to open 24 hours a day in downtown areas if the policy is successful in the Latin Quarter. Some local organisations have been fighting to allow 24-hour nightlife in Montreal for the past year, including MTL 24/24, which has been pushing for policies to ensure the sustainability of local nightlife. In May, the non-profit organised a party called ‘NON STOP’, which lasted for 36 hours and marked the first party… Read More →

Ray Romano says rebooting ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ is “out of the question”

Ray Romano has weighed in on the possibility of rebooting his hit ’90s sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond. Speaking on the latest episode of HBO‘s Real Time With Bill Maher, Romano emphatically shut down talks of reviving Everybody Loves Raymond. When asked if the show could come back in some form, Romano told Maher, per Variety: “As far as a reboot, well it’s out now of the question because unfortunately the parents are gone: Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts.” Peter Boyle, who played Raymon’s father Frank, died in 2006 shortly after the series concluded. Doris Roberts, who played Frank’s wife Marie, died a decade later. Besides the absence of Boyle and Roberts, Romano also said he isn’t up for a reboot because “they’re never as good. We want to leave with our legacy as what it is.” Advertisement However, Romano shared that some of his former cast mates on the show wanted it to go on beyond 2006. “The rest of the cast was happy to go on, but myself and Phil Rosenthal — who ran the show — we wanted it to end in Season 8, because we just felt it, we felt it [was] time,” Romano said.
