Denis Villeneuve says he bans mobile phones on his sets: “When you say cut, you don’t want someone checking Facebook”

Denis Villeneuve has revealed that mobile phones are banned on his film sets. READ MORE: ‘Dune: Part Two’ review: sandworm-sized sequel should blow a hole in the box office The Dune director was profiled for the Los Angeles Times and voiced his anxieties over how “human beings are ruled by algorithms right now.” “We behave like AI circuits. The ways we see the world are narrow-minded binaries. We’re disconnecting from each other, and society is crumbling in some ways. It’s frightening,” he said. This formed part of the rationale for him banning phones on the sets of films he is working on. Advertisement “Cinema is an act of presence,” Villeneuve said. “When a painter paints, he has to be absolutely focused on the color he’s putting on the canvas. It’s the same with the dancer when he does a gesture. With a filmmaker, you have to do that with a crew, and everybody has to focus and be entirely in the present, listening to each other, being in relationship with each other. So cellphones are banned on my set too, since Day 1. It’s forbidden. When you say cut, you don’t want someone going to his phone to look at his Facebook… Read More →

Kim Kardashian releases Travis Barker-produced ‘Santa Baby’ cover with Macaulay Culkin-starring video

Kim Kardashian has surprise released a cover of festive classic ‘Santa Baby’ produced by brother-in-law Travis Barker. The lo-fi take on the song has Kardashian singing in a low, breathy whisper backed by a saxophone and piano. Notably, the accompanying music video – directed by Nadia Lee Cohen and Charlie Denis (who has previously worked with Tyler, the Creator and A$AP Rocky) – features a cameo from Macaulay Culkin. It features Kardashian crawling her way through an unhinged Christmas party, including some rather unfriendly-looking Santa’s helpers, models playing Twister and a person in a creepy reindeer costume. Culkin appears at the end of the music video, where Kardashian crawls up to him while he’s seemingly filming the whole nightmare party with an old-fashioned camcorder. Tom Morello shares the one thing people get wrong about Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Tom Morello has revealed what he believes is the single most understood aspect of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The Rage Against The Machine guitarist has been present at multiple induction ceremonies over the years, including in 2014 when he inducted KISS and last year, when he accepted Rage’s induction alone. In a new interview with Guitar World, he was asked about the annual event and his opinion on its ongoing relevance to the guitar music industry. “I will say that one thing that people get wrong is that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be just for rock ’n’ roll bands,” he said. “That’s not what it’s for.
