Thank you for your understanding and support through these unforeseen changes. Tonight, we perform for them, and for you.” Advertisement In a later update, the band thanked the crowd for their “unwavering support and for raising your voices with us last night”, and went on to say: In the absence of our brothers III and IV, your energy filled the room and carried us through. “We are grateful beyond words for this collective, and for each of you who shared in the Ritual with us. Bob Dylan, Usher Hall, Edinburgh, November 5, 2024

If, at this late date, you still need proof Bob Dylan is not a man to be trusted, then this unexpected return to the UK for the latest leg of the Rough And Rowdy Ways tour is a good place to start. Certainly, after the triumphant fourth and final show at the London Palladium – with its two extra curtain calls – you could have been forgiven for thinking that Dylan was bidding farewell to the capital, before making a last, dignified excursion round the country. So it came as a surprise when this latest run of 10 UK shows were announced in July – not just simply Dylan’s decision to return to the UK, but the question this inevitably raised. When you’ve played shows as good as the ones Uncut witnessed in London, Glasgow and Oxford in 2022 what, then, do you do for an encore? My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero shares reasons for voting: “It is far less likely that any Nazis or other hate groups will be voting for Kamala Harris”

My Chemical Romance‘s Frank Iero has shared his reasons for voting ahead of his shows with L.S. Dunes. The guitarist took to his official Instagram account yesterday (November 4) to share a statement on the importance of voting during this year’s presidential election which is taking place today (November 5). “These are very uncertain and scary times in our world. I have been travelling the country for a long time and lately, the one thing I have seen all too much of is people looking to piss off the other side by any means necessary,” began Iero’s statement. “In my opinion, a truly asinine reason to make such an important decision like choosing your next president. Tomorrow I will be voting for Harris/Walz and some of my reasoning is the following.” Advertisement He continued: “I believe women should have the inalienable right to control what happens to their own bodies. I believe our children would be safer with sensible gun control. I believe in science and facts. I believe gay rights are human rights and I believe all human beings are created equal and should be treated with compassion and dignity. I believe in democracy for our nation and a… Read More →

AMONG the many surprises 2024 had to offer, arguably the most unexpected took place on the night of September 25. “Happy Birthday Mary Jo!” Bob Dylan wrote on X. “See you in Frankfort.” Happy Birthday Mary Jo! See you in Frankfort. — Bob Dylan (@bobdylan) September 25, 2024 Whoa – who was Mary Jo? And did he mean Frankfort, the state capital of Kentucky, or Frankfurt, where Dylan was due to play a few weeks later? And hang on, was that really Bob Dylan anyway? A further post on September 30 said, “I just found out the other day that Bob Newhart was gone. Rest in peace Bob. You brought us a lot of joy.” Advertisement More followed – including a restaurant recommendation when in New Orleans and a thwarted experience at a publishing convention in – yes – Frankfurt. Matthew Lewis on post-‘Harry Potter’ anxiety and fear he couldn’t “hack it” as an actor

Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis has opened up about fears he had after the movie series concluded, admitting he worried he couldn’t “hack it” as an actor. The star played Neville Longbottom across the franchise’s eight films, and admitted that the series’ child stars found it “tricky” to transition to adults in the industry after the final movie in 2011. Speaking at the Rhode Island Comic Con (via People), Lewis explained that there “was absolutely a lot of trepidation” on whether he “was going to be able to hack it in that larger pool”. “Although, that said, I was very excited about the prospect,” he added. “I have quite a short attention span, so that’s probably why I’ve never chosen a real career. [After] 10 years in Harry Potter, I was ready to do something else and also was not keen to do anything that was going to lead to multiple series.” Advertisement [embedded content] Lewis added that he “had no idea what was next” and “wasn’t prepared at all”, though revealed that the friendships formed in the Harry Potter cast helped. “One of the questions that was asked earlier about the pitfalls of being a child actor that we… Read More →

Quincy Jones: “I learned the difference between music and the music business”

This article originally appeared in Uncut Take 163 from December 2010 Quincy Jones keeps Uncut waiting for an hour before we’re finally ushered into his presence. Thankfully, this proves to be the only evidence of prima donna behaviour from the legendary producer and arranger – when we finally meet, he’s charming and affable, brandishing photos of his kids and relating tales of his extensive travels (China is a current obsession). As we talk through a handful of his many career highs, “Q” heads off on entertaining tangents: numerology, the banning of slave drums in 1692 America, the similarity between Chinese and African languages, the emotional pull of a major seventh chord and why Pro-Tools will never replicate his sound. In passing, he name-drops the Stones, Brando, Picasso and David Beckham. At 77, with a credit on over 100 albums, we have to ask what the secret is to his success. “The sequence is very important,” he says. “That’s the architecture of an album…” THE CURE, BRYAN FERRY, THE MC5, RADIOHEAD, KIM DEAL, PAUL WELLER AND MORE STAR IN THE NEW UNCUT – ORDER A COPY HERE Advertisement QUINCY JONESTHE BIRTH OF A BAND (MERCURY, 1959) Jones’ third album was recorded… Read More →

J.K. Rowling takes swipe at David Tennant after Kemi Badenoch named new Conservative leader

J.K. Rowling has taken a swipe at David Tennant after Kemi Badenoch, who Tennant has publicly criticised, was named the new leader of the Conservative Party. The 44-year-old MP was announced as the Tory leader on Saturday (November 2) after defeating Robert Jenrick in a leadership contest by over 12,000 votes. She becomes the sixth Tory leader in less than nine years, replacing Rishi Sunak, who guided the party to their worst ever general election result in July. The Cure, The Troxy, London, November 1 2024

It’s probably a couple of decades too late, but Robert Smith is finding that his deepest fears are coming true. Now aged 65, he recently fretted about whether he’d make it to 70 – and still be around to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Cure. Certainly, the coal-black angst and existential melancholia that has become the band’s stock-in-trade has taken on an additional potency in the last few years: health scares proliferated, loved ones have died. We have become used to venerable artists like Dylan, Neil Young and Springsteen ruminating on ageing and mortality, now it seems that it’s Smith’s turn to manage the problematic business of growing old. ‘Gladiator II’ is “total Hollywood bullshit”, says top historian

A top historian has dismissed the upcoming Gladiator II as “total Hollywood bullshit”. Read More: 20 unmissable movies coming out in 2024 A feature by The Hollywood Reporter published today (October 30) makes a bid to separate the historical accuracies of the upcoming epic from its wilder sequences – like the use of sharks in a flooded Colosseum, which had already garnered praise (and disbelief) from viewers upon its reveal in the film’s trailer. Dr. Shadi Bartsch, a classics professor at the University of Chicago – and author of several books about ancient Rome – called it “total Hollywood bullshit.” “I don’t think Romans knew what a shark was,” she said, although adding that naval battles were held in the arena. Advertisement Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal in ‘Gladiator II’ – CREDIT: Paramount On the use of rhinos in the Colosseum, Bartsch notes that a poem was once written in 80 A.D. “about a rhinoceros tossing a bull up to the sky”, although not of the same breed as the one in the film, which is directed by Ridley Scott. There’s also no evidence that gladiators rode rhinos, she clarified. Another Gladiator II scene shows a Roman noble sipping tea in… Read More →
