George Floyd Death: Thomas Lane Lawyer Blames Public

Earl Gray, Thomas Lane's lawyer, made an appearance on CNN last night and spoke on his client's defense and case.

Drake has already issued his take on this interview between Thomas Lane's lawyer and CNN host Chris Cuomo, but there's quite a bit more to unpack from it.

Lane, one of the four police officers responsible for the death of George Floyd, had his lawyer, Earl Gray conduct an interview with Chris Cuomo where they discussed Lane's defense and the case. The interview resulted in a few incendiary remarks on Gray's side.

Gray attempted to flip things so that was it the public's fault that Floyd died, which Cuomo stopped immediately to counter. "If the public is there and they're so in an uproar about this, they didn't intercede either," Gray said, referring to those who witnessed and filmed the murder.

"I understand that he has a senior officer telling him what to do, but he also has a duty to intervene," Cuomo said. "The idea that the civilians should have rushed in to a policing situation in the inner city of Minneapolis against four police officers that have weapons and are kneeling on the kneck of a man- don't you think that's asking too much of civilians and a little too little of your client?"

Gray doesn't seem to have anything else to say in response to Cuomo's remarks but agree. "Absolutely," he said before stumbling over his words, "I just brought that up..." You can watch this particular clip in the tweet below.

Elsewhere in the interview, Gray cited the fact that it was only Lane's fourth full day on the job, and Chauvin was his senior training officer. He also referenced the fact that Lane suggested they roll Floyd over on his side, which Chauvin ignored.

"What's telling, what's compelling, is when the ambulance comes, my client goes in the ambulance," Gray said. "Four days on the force, goes in the ambulance and starts his own CPR, pushing down on the chest, which he did for a lengthy period of time, until he got the machine up, attempting to revive Mr. Floyd."

As we reported on earlier, Lane is apparently soliciting donations from the public in his court fight.

B. Simone Says She Won’t Date A Man With A 9-5 & Gets Dragged

B. Simone is coming under fire for comments she made during a new interview with Nick Cannon.

While most of us already know that B. Simone's ideal man = DaBaby, Nick Cannon still decided to grill the TV personality on the traits she looks for in a would-be partner during an interview. Her answers have resulted in some strong twitter reactions, making her trend this morning across the platform.

In the interview, which was actually conducted two weeks ago but is receiving renewed life thanks to a clip that The Shade Room shared (below), finds B. Simone talking about her love life and the possibility of going on a blind date (set up by Cannon). When Cannon presses B. Simone about what she wants in her man, Simone states, "He can't have a 9-5," she continues, "he can be a hustling entrepreneur," before confirming with Cannon that she wants someone who is "CEO status."

She continued, "I think entrepreneurs should date entrepreneurs," before claiming that anyone else would not understand her lifestyle. Now that the public has zeroed in on these remarks, they have things to say. Check out some of the reactions across twitter this morning in response to B. Simone's ideal man wishlist.

"Bill And Ted Face The Music" First Trailer Arrives

Check out the first trailer of Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter’s upcoming reunion “Bill And Ted Face The Music.”

It’s been decades since we last saw Bill and Ted cavorting throughout the time-space continuum, with Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey having landed in 1991. Yet that’s about to change with the trilogy’s upcoming chapter Bill & Ted Face The Music, which finds Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprising their roles for another outlandish adventure. Today marks the arrival of the film’s first official teaser trailer, which provides a glimpse at the general plotline to come.

Having failed to write the song that will unite the world, Bill and Ted decide to take a shortcut and fast-forward into the future, where they can essentially steal the song from themselves. The moral conundrum associated with plagiarizing from one’s self is briefly discussed, but let’s be honest, neither Bill nor Ted carry much weight in the philosophy department. Unfortunately, things don’t seem like they’re going to go as planned, as both Bill and Ted’s future selves don’t exactly seem like the charitable type. Though as we’ve seen before, the mindless charms of two affable slackers can hold unexpected power.

Check out the first teaser trailer below, and look for Bill & Ted Face The Music to crashland at some point this year. Will you be checking it out?

RMR’s "Drug Dealing Is A Lost Art" Tracklist Includes Young Thug, Future, & More

RMR is a fresh face on the rap scene, calling on Young Thug, Future, Lil Baby, and Westside Gunn to complement his first project.

RMR (pronounced Rumor) has been getting praise left and right for his fresh take on the rap genre. It’s hard to get noticed if you’re not bringing anything new to the table. That’s all that RMR can do, blending genres in a way that we haven’t seen in years.

The masked rapper is hiding his identity but he’s not shy to tell the world about all the stars appearing on his debut project DRUG DEALING IS A LOST ART.

The project was pushed back because of the protests last week, as RMR deemed it irresponsible to release new music as the world focused on much more important things. The drop is now set for June 12 and there will be a lot of attention on the project.

XXXTentacion’s Son Gekyume Poses With Rapper’s Baby Picture, They Look The Same

XXXTentacion’s mother shares a new picture of Baby Gekyume posing next to the rapper’s own childhood photo.

As we near the two-year anniversary of XXXTentacion’s tragic shooting death, the rapper’s mother is brightening up his fans’ mornings by sharing a new picture of his only son, marking how similar they look.

XXXTentacion was not around to welcome his son, Gekyume Onfroy, into the world. His girlfriend, Jenesis Sanchez, has shown off pictures of their little one, ogling over how the two look ridiculously alike. A new photo by Cleopatra Bernard confirms that.

“Caption this,” asked XXX’s mom on Instagram. The image shows Gekyume standing next to a picture of his rapper father as a baby, pointing to the framed display. Many of the commentators presumed he was asking if the picture is of himself.

You can clearly see how Gekyume took a lot after his dad. The 1-year-old hears all kinds of nice stories about the “Moonlight” star every day, as both Cleo and Jenesis have promised to teach him about his father’s greatness as he grows up.

The little one is growing so fast. It feels like, with each new photo, he’s starting to look even more like his dad. Soon, he’ll be dropping angsty and emotive music for the world to consume and enjoy.

Take a look below.

COVID-19 Spread By Asymptomatic People Is "Very Rare", WHO Claims

Asymptomatic patients aren’t the ones to be concerned about, according to the World Health Organization.

The coronavirus pandemic is still going on but perhaps, it might not be as contagious as initially expected. The past two months have been filled with reminders to wash your hands for 30 seconds and wearing facemasks in public, even those who aren’t showing any symptoms. Asymptomatic patients were truly among the most concerning group among those who tested positive.

Per CNBC, the World Health Organization have found those infected with coronavirus but don’t show any symptoms aren’t the ones spreading the disease at a rapid pace. This clashes with studies from other researchers who thought the disease would be hard to contain because of asymptomatic patients. Though it’s not impossible that those without symptoms could transmit COVID-19, certain people, specifically young, healthy individuals, show little to no symptoms.

“From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual,” the head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove said. Though she said this isn’t conclusive, it does look promising.

“We have a number of reports from countries who are doing very detailed contact tracing,” she said. “They’re following asymptomatic cases. They’re following contacts. And they’re not finding secondary transmission onward. It’s very rare.”

The CDC previously established that asymptomatic patients were one of the biggest reasons for social distancing measures. That might change things moving forward but for the time being, Van Kerkhove said that they’re still monitoring the transmission among asymptomatic and presymptomatic people.

Masika Kalysha Debuts Red Hair & Matching Lingerie For Her 35th Birthday

Masika debuts fiery red hair in a series of photos celebrating her birthday.

Last week, Masika took time out of her day to absolutely rip apart Trina in a series of rather unrelenting tweets. The ex-baby mama of Fetty Wap is back to her regularly scheduled programming this week, at least so far, as she celebrated a birthday over the weekend.

Yesterday, Masika turned 35-years old, and decided to show off a little for the Gram in the process. She donned bright red hair, starting her new year of life with a new look, and showed her followers just how grown she is, beyond her physical beauty. Masika not only shared photos in red lingerie that matches her hair, she also gave her followers a glimpse at her brand new digs.

Masika showed off the stark-white and rather empty (for now) kitchen by standing on the island and lounging across it: “It’s a real nigga’s bday,” she wrote, “I accomplished everything I set out to do without knowing how tf I was going to…” and in case the message was unclear, she added the hashtag: “new house who dis.”

Check out the new house flicks alongside the linger photos below.

Happy birthday Masika!

SAINt JHN Reacts To "Roses" Becoming His First-Ever Top 10 Single

SAINt JHN's four-year-old song "Roses" becomes his first-ever track to bless the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.

SAINt JHN has been celebrating a legion of new fans after his four-year-old song "Roses" was revived on social media after a remix by an underground Kazakhstan-based producer went viral, helping him get the record to Billboard Hot 100's Top 10.

For the first time in his career, SAINt JHN has gotten a single in the Top 10 of the chart as a lead artist. The Brooklyn artist has written songs for Rihanna, Usher, Jidenna, Beyoncé, and more but, as a solo artist, he has not seen the same success as the musicians he's helped out with his pen game. Now, he surprisingly can celebrate a new achievement with a song he had likely never expected to take off like this.

Fresh off the official remix with Future, SAINt JHN is cradling his head in his hands after "Roses" marked #10 on this week's edition of the Billboard Hot 100.

The track's popularity has been bolstered through a remix by Imanbek, who released the remix after attempting to reach JHN on Instagram. He did not receive a reply and, shortly after the song's release, it blew up on Tik Tok.

"Wow," wrote SAINt JHN on Twitter, reacting to his feat.

This week's chart also saw DaBaby earn his first-ever #1 record with "ROCKSTAR," marking Roddy Ricch's second time at the top after "The Box's" early success.

Amanda Seales Schools Terry Crews On Black Supremacy Tweet

Amanda Seales responds to Terry Crews' "Black Supremacy" remarks on Twitter.

Amanda Seales has spoken out against the controversial statement Terry Crews made on Twitter. It read "Defeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy. Equality is the truth. Like it or not, we are all in this together." Reminiscent of his attempt to contradict Gabrielle Union’s claims of discrimination on America’s Got Talent, Crews is once again under fire for his comments.

“How did none of y’all tell me what Terry Crews was over there doing last night?” Seales asked her Instagram followers this morning, referring to Crews’ recent tweet.

She then took to Twitter to set the record straight.

"Just so we're clear: 1: there is no such thing as BLACK SUPREMACY. Liberation from an oppressive system is not rooted in a desire to BECOME the oppressive system," Seales started.

Seales continued her thoughts in a thread: “2: yes, there are people who attempt to measure blackness according to diff methods. My bottom line is EVERY black experience IS a black experience UNLESS it is ANTI-black.”

“3: @terrycrews tweets and previous actions are a demonstration of anti-blackness,” said Seales. “When you use yourself in any way to obstruct the truth of another black person's PRO-BLACK experience you are a coon. He did that with Gab and he's doing that with this movement.”

She concluded the thread with a fourth tweet: “4: A lotta my fellow celebs need their phones taken away and replaced with books. You're not playing a role. You're a role model. We must know our history better than we know their scripts.✊?”

Several individuals have emerged to offer criticism against Crews’ remarks. “I love you as a friend Brother Terry. But I disagree with you 100 %. No such thing as Black Supremacy. That is a tactic that Racist whites use to counteract our rebellion to their horrific treatment of us. It's called Gas lighting. Black pride isn't anti white,” tweeted @GodfreyComedian.

Even Crews’ former castmates from Everybody Hates Chris have put on statements in response to his statement on Twitter.  "I’m not trying to call you out @terrycrews. You know it’s all love always ❤️. But we’re rightfully angry right now and fed up with anyone not with our cause wholeheartedly. I don’t want to see that energy pointed your way or diverted from the cause," said @TylerJamesWill who acted the part of the main character, Chris.

@TheOrlandoJones, who played Crews' son, tweeted,“Black supremacy? We represent 13% of US population, hold no institutional power & gaslight our coworkers. We got 99 problems and your math isn't the only 1. #StrongerTogether.”

What do you think about Terry Crews’ tweet? Let us know in the comments. Check out Amanda Seales' reaction in the tweets below.

N.W.A’s "Fuck Tha Police" Still Holds Power

Over thirty years later, N.W.A.’s “Fuck Tha Police” resonates with a new generation, finding life as a modern-day protest anthem.

It’s rare that a song’s power only intensifies with time. Though nostalgia can be a powerful means of preserving replay value, more often than not a song stands as a representation of a moment in time. A reflection of the social climate, of the musical trends prevalent. When N.W.A. first released “Fuck Tha Police” back in August of 1988, over thirty years ago, it’s uncertain whether Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren, and DJ Yella had any idea what they had created. A song that has continued to resonate with people of all ages, unified by a shared disdain for abusive police and the systems they represent.

Following the death of George Floyd, murdered by the disgraced police officer Derek Chauvin, the protests that sparked in defiance looked to the past for its theme music. With thousands placed in direct confrontation with police, in many cases forced to suffer abuse with impunity, the need for a rallying cry has reached an apex. “Fuck Tha Police” has found new life as a modern-day anthem, one whose message has endured for decades. In its simplest form, a stand against authority figures, especially those who succumb to the temptations of tyranny. Yet amidst the simple bluntness of the titular curse lies a long and complex history. One chock-full of racial prejudices borne through a lack of empathy and understanding. Satisfying though it may be to blast “Fuck Tha Police” in a cop’s vicinity, the deeper meanings should not be diluted.

N.W.A's "Fuck Tha Police" Still Holds Power

Al Pereira/Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images

The story of its creation was sold to many by the 2015 N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton, which depicted our five heroes being racially profiled outside of a recording studio and roughed up for no other reason beyond their skin color. In reality, a revelation on HBO’s The Defiant Ones confirmed that “Fuck Tha Police” was originally declined by Dr. Dre, after Ice Cube presented the young producer with the incendiary lyrics. It was only after Eazy-E and Dre engaged in a joyride on the Los Angeles freeway, possessed by a desire to fire paintballs into passing cars. “Fifteen minutes after that, the police is behind us,” reflects Dre, older and wiser. “They pull us out of the car with guns drawn, lay us face down on the freeway.”

In the same clip, Cube admits that Dre’s frequent trips to jail were the catalyst for “Fuck Tha Police.” As he explains, Dre’s company tended to mean that the parties were in full swing; in Cube’s eyes, the Doc’s recurring weekend slammer trips were the ultimate buzzkill. “I was mad that all the fun stopped, and Dre had to go to jail till Monday,” smiles Cube. “So I wrote ‘Fuck Tha Police.’” A far cry from the narrative put forth in the film, but authorial intent doesn’t necessarily matter when the product is ushered into the world. The minute it was released, “Fuck Tha Police” provided a voice to everybody who ever experienced police brutality. Especially when Cube’s opening verse painted such a vivid picture, one that could be juxtaposed with any given protest montage of today with no shortage of relevancy.

N.W.A's "Fuck Tha Police" Still Holds Power

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images

It’s become all too familiar a sight. A Black person harassed, assaulted, and in the bleakest cases, murdered because a police officer claims to have feared for their safety. We’ve seen the footage. Traffic stops turned fatal, as was the case for Philando Castile. A fatal chokehold placed on George Floyd over a counterfeit bill. Instances where the consequences of an officer’s actions went unfeared, the system backing them designed as an impenetrable safety net. For Ice Cube, frustrated by the seemingly unconquerable presence of the police, rebellion came through music. By belittling the organization that had disrupted his daily life. Provocative in its blunt title and direct message, it didn’t take long before “Fuck Tha Police” caught the ire of law enforcement across the country. For those who self-aggrandized themselves as untouchable, the hostile bars of Compton’s finest served as the ultimate undermining. And given how infectiously catchy the track was, its popularity ensured that “Fuck Tha Police” quickly achieved anthem status. And given how many different walks of life have experienced negative interactions with aggressive police officers — across all generations — NWA’s controversial creation continues to carry the same weight today.

Though the track’s longevity speaks to the brilliance of its creators, it also reveals a darker truth on the other side of the coin. The fact that the animosity between the civilian population and the police sworn to serve and protect still exists is a disturbing reality. It also highlights how deeply entrenched within the system that racism really is. “Police think they have the authority to kill a minority,” rapped Ice Cube, in his instantly recognizable opening verse. Sadly, that truth has revealed itself like clockwork. Only this time, it seems as if the people have had enough. The streets have since come alive in protest; there isn’t a person in the entire United States that hasn’t come to know the name of George Floyd. Though some police have attempted to combat the uprising with force, they’ve quickly realized that heightened publicity can be a devastating counter to their all-too-often unprovoked bouts of violence. Excessive force will no longer be judged by fellow officers, but the court of public opinion — one that is, for what feels like the first time, standing largely united. All the while, N.W.A’s “Fuck Tha Police” continues to capture the zeitgeist once again, gaining renewed purpose as a protest anthem for a new generation.
