Canadian rock duo Death From Above 1979 have officially announced their highly anticipated new studio album, Private Lives. Marking their first full-length release in six years, the record is set to arrive on January 29 via their longtime label, Last Gang/MNRK. To celebrate the announcement, the band has shared the title track and unveiled a comprehensive North American tour for early 2027.

The new project follows their 2021 effort, Is 4 Lovers. According to band members Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler, the creative spark for Private Lives was ignited by a series of retrospective performances, including tours celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine, and the 10th anniversary of The Physical World.
“Playing the old songs every day really inspires you to want to make something new,” Keeler said, while Grainger added, “After the anniversary shows, we were at once kinda sick of celebrating ourselves but also re-grounded in the true foundational sound of the band.”
The album is largely composed of previously unused demos that the duo has revitalized. Grainger noted that the process was about returning to the band’s roots: “When we first started making music, it was as easy as going down to the basement. It was a physical process. The trick is to remember what makes it fun and special.”
The lead single, “Private Lives,” explores themes of seeking privacy in an era defined by overexposure. The accompanying music video, directed by Eva Michon, features actor Kim Bodnia. The band describes the track as a “ripping rock song with maniacal riffs” that embodies their renewed commitment to the “pure industrial magic of electricity.”

The band will embark on a North American tour beginning February 2 in Tempe, Arizona, with stops in major cities including Los Angeles, Toronto, Brooklyn, and Seattle throughout February and March 2027.
