In promotion of Stephon Marbury's new documentary, "A Kid from Coney Island," the former NBA star turned Chinese Basketball Association legend has been making the rounds doing interviews and podcasts, speaking on everything from his basketball career to his thoughts about the late, great Kobe Bryant.
During a recent appearance on Complex’s Load Management podcast, the Coney Island kid issued some questionable remarks about those who have attempted to carry Kobe's legacy in the aftermath of his death. Specifically, Marbury was critical of LeBron James, who he says is "no real Laker."

When asked about the reactions to Kobe Bryant's death, Marbury explained (H/T USA Today), “I see so many people saying so many great things about Kobe and they hated Kobe and I’m like, 'hmm, this is interesting.'" He later added the following about LeBron, in particular:
“You don’t need to go get guys like LeBron to go speak and talk about what they’re going to carry and all of that. He don’t need you to carry his legacy. His legacy is already his legacy. You don’t do that. Carry your own legacy. Keep it popping and going. You not no real Laker. The real Laker fans are real laker fans. And real Laker players. So when you hear these guys saying this type of stuff and doing these type of things, I’m wondering what is it for? Is it for show or is it for real life?"
You can listen to Marbury's comments for yourself in the audio clip embedded below.
LeBron James Flexes "Alternate Lakers" Nike LeBron 17
LeBron James always kills it with the special colorways.
LeBron James has been a bit of a sneaker icon over the years. However, this hasn’t always been the case. Up until the Nike LeBron 7, many felt underwhelmed by the silhouettes being produced by Nike. The 7 was special as it featured Air Max technology and was easily one of the best silhouettes in the LeBron line, up until that points. Over the past couple of months, LeBron has been celebrating the 10th anniversary of the shoe.
Numerous colorways have been released to the public all while James flexes some fresh PE’s. Just the other day, LeBron wore a white Lakers colorway that featured purple and gold accents. Last night against the Brooklyn Nets, LeBron flexed another Lakers pair except for this time they were purple with white and gold accents.
Unfortunately, these kicks won’t be coming out so if you had your eyes on them, you should forget about visualizing them in your collection. Regardless, it doesn’t hurt to marvel at their beauty; a beauty that is quite apparent based on the images above. As the season goes on, we will surely see even more great colorways make their way to the court.
Let us know in the comments below how you feel about these. Is this LeBron’s best Lakers colorway to date?
NCAA Tournament To Be Held Without Fans Due To Coronavirus
NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments will be held without any fans in attendance this year as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
The NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments will be held without any fans in attendance this year, due to the COVID-19 (aka coronavirus) outbreak. NCAA President Mark Emmert announced the decision on Wednesday afternoon, right in the middle of the ongoing conference tournaments, many of which are still being played in full arenas.

According to the press release, the only people allowed on tournament sites will be the players and coaches, essential staff and a limited amount of family members. The NCAA's official statement reads:
"The NCAA continues to assess the impact of COVID-19 in consultation with public health officials and our COVID-19 advisory panel. Based on their advice and my discussions with the NCAA Board of Governors, I have made the decision to conduct our upcoming championship events, including the Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, with only essential staff and limited family attendance. While I understand how disappointing this is for all fans of our sports, my decision is based on the current understanding of how COVID-19 is progressing in the United States.
This decision is in the best interest of public health, including that of coaches, administrators, fans and, most importantly, our student-athletes. We recognize the opportunity to compete in an NCAA national championship is an experience of a lifetime for the students and their families. Today, we will move forward and conduct championships consistent with the current information and will continue to monitor and make adjustments as needed."
The official brackets for the men's tournament will be unveiled on Sunday night. Typically, the top seeds are placed in regions nearby their school, giving those teams a home court advantage in the opening rounds - but there will be no such advantages this year as all games will essentially be played on an eerily quiet neutral floor.
Sixers Confirm Ben Simmons Won’t Be Back Anytime Soon
Philadelphia 76ers announce that All Star point guard Ben Simmons will be out until at least April as he continues to recover from a lower back injury.
The Philadelphia 76ers will be without All Star point guard Ben Simmons for the foreseeable future as he continues to recover from a nerve impingement in his lower back. Simmons suffered the injury during the opening minutes of the Sixers' loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on February 22nd.
The team announced on Wednesday that Simmons will miss at least three more weeks before being reevaluated, and they have not provided a timeline for his return.

With the exception of the few minutes Simmons played against Milwaukee on February 22nd, the Sixers have been without the 23-year old star ever since the All Star break. During that time, the team has gone 4-5 and dropped to sixth in the Eastern Conference with an overall record of 38-26. If the season ended today, they'd be looking at a first round matchup against the Boston Celtics.
The Sixers will kick off a four-game home stand tonight against the Detroit Pistons, followed by games against the Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors. Even if Simmons is given the green light to return immediately after he is reevaluated in three weeks, there will be just seven games remaining on the Sixers' regular season schedule.
In his 54 appearances this season, Simmons is averaging 16.9 points, 8.3 assists and 7.9 rebounds per game.
LeBron James Sings Extra Rendition Of "Happy Birthday" For AD
LeBron James and Anthony Davis are the best of friends these days.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis may have a significant age difference but their friendship knows no bounds. The two have been good friends ever since AD came into the league and over the last year or so, their relationship has expanded thanks to the fact that they are teammates. They always have each other's back and they also have some of the best chemistry in the league. Because of this, the Lakers are first place in the Western Conference with a record of 49-13.
Today, Davis is celebrating his 27th birthday. The superstar has accomplished quite a bit in just a short time in the league and is seen as, at least, a top 10 player. Since today was a special occasion, LeBron had to take full advantage. As you can see in the clip below, LeBron belts out a spirited rendition of "Happy Birthday" with lyrics specific to AD.
AD seemed pretty embarrassed by LeBron's singing and immediately flung a piece of fabric in LeBron's direction although the singing continued. LeBron has been on dad mode for a while now and we should have known this was coming considering all of the Taco Tuesday hysteria.
LeBron didn't show us what he got AD for his big day although we can imagine it was pretty awesome. If the two win an NBA title together, that would certainly be the ultimate gift.
Rudy Gobert Dismisses Coronavirus Protocol And Gets An "Illness"
Rudy Gobert really thought he was being funny.
Coronavirus has led to some pretty drastic measures in the NBA. For instance, the league is now doing press conferences with reporters standing far back from their mics and recorders. Today, there is going to be a meeting to discuss whether or not games will be played with fans in the crowd. Clearly, players are nervous about what's going to happen next although some don't care to play by the rules. One of those men is none other than Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz.
Just a couple of days ago, Gobert purposely touched a bunch of mics and recorders left at a podium by journalists. Gobert was essentially trying to show that the whole Coronavirus hysteria really isn't that big of a deal. Well, two days later, he was diagnosed with an "illness" and questionable for tonight's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Of course, it's very unlikely that Gobert actually has COVID-19. However, the timing of his illness certainly looks bizarre when paired with his stunt from just a couple of days ago. If you're Gobert, you've got to be kicking yourself for exhibiting such recklessness.
From this point forward, we're sure NBA players will think twice before trying to be smart. Coronavirus is now considered a pandemic and players are going to have to get serious if they want to protect themselves.
Stephen A. Smith Offers Nuanced Take On Coronavirus
The NBA is thinking about taking some drastic measures against the virus.
Coronavirus has officially been named a pandemic by the World Health Organization and the world is scared about what this could mean going forward. The NBA is among the institutions who are trying to devise some plans in regards to what to do next. In fact, all 30 teams will have a phone call today to discuss whether or not the season should go on or if the games should be played without fans.
Today on ESPN's First Take, Stephen A. Smith spoke out about COVID-19 and the risk it is posing to the players. Smith took a nuanced approach with this news item, stating that as a fan, he's hurt but as a human being, he is worried about what the spread of the disease could mean, going forward.
"As a basketball fan I'm depressed. As a human being and as an American citizen, I'm getting to the point where I'm scared as hell," Smith said. Soon after making these comments, it was revealed that the Golden State Warriors would be playing against the Brooklyn Nets without any fans, due to a new municipal law.
Stay tuned for updates on what the NBA decides moving forward. This is a huge public health risk and it's clear that the NBA is taking this all very seriously.
Kevin Durant Deserves "All The Tribute Videos" From GSW, Says Dinwiddie
Brooklyn Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie says Warriors “better give Durant all the tribute videos in the world” on Thursday night.
The Brooklyn Nets will make their lone trip to the Chase Center in San Francisco on Thursday night, as they look to secure their third straight victory. As we know, Kevin Durant will not be suiting up against his former team – but he will be in the building.
Ahead of KD’s return to The Bay, Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie envisioned the reception that he hopes the two-time Finals MVP receives.
“They better give him all the tribute videos in the world,” said Dinwiddie, according to Mark Medina of USA TODAY Sports. “He got them two championships.”

During a recent discussion with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson on their “All The Smoke” Podcast, KD spoke candidly about the Bay, revealing how he truly feels his legacy will be remembered.
Says Durant, “Man it’s like a different culture – it don’t even feel like you’re in California, the Bay is just it’s own thing. Being there I just really felt like I stamped myself as a legend in the Bay.” KD notes that he isn’t necessarily comparing himself to San Francisco 49ers legends Jerry Rice and Joe Montana that actually won in the Bay, but adds, “you got us winning back-to-back in the Bay, it’s like, ‘shit,’ that’s forever so I’m really proud of that.”
In his three seasons with the Warriors, Durant averaged 25.8 points to go along with 7.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. As we know, the Warriors were on the cusp of a three-peat when KD suffered a devastating achilles injury that has kept him out of action since the 2019 Finals.

Warriors Fans Banned From Attending Games Due To Coronavirus
San Francisco mayor bans all public gatherings that draw crowds of 1,000 people or more, including Golden State Warriors games.
The NBA league office is expected to hold a conference call with the 30 general managers around the league on Wednesday afternoon in regards to the coronavirus outbreak. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the league has considered several different options, including playing games without fans in attendance and postponing games altogether.
A league wide decision has not yet been revealed, but select cities have already taken action. For instance, The San Francisco Chronicle reports that mayor London Breed has banned all public gatherings that draw crowds of 1,000 people or more, which includes Golden State Warriors games at the Chase Center.
The Warriors are scheduled to host the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night, as Kevin Durant makes his return to the Bay Area for the first time since since last year's NBA Finals. Warriors fans who were hoping to welcome KD back will not have the opportunity to do so, as The New York Times' Marc Stein has confirmed that tomorrow night's game will be closed to the public.
Following Thursday's contest, the Warriors will embark on a five-game road trip and they won't return to the Chase Center until their March 25th matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. It's anybody's guess what the state of the league, and the country as a whole, will be in by that time.
Drake & Kevin Durant Go On Los Angeles Adventure
Drake and Kevin Durant are just a couple of guys having a ball.
Drake and Kevin Durant have had a budding friendship for a long time now. The Canadian artist has a tattoo of Durant's number and has consistently been one of the most vocal KD fans in the world, even when his Raptors are playing the superstar. For instance, Drake was beside himself during Game 5 of the NBA Finals when KD ruptured his Achilles on the Raptors home court.
Last night, Durant was in Los Angeles as his Brooklyn Nets took on the Los Angeles Lakers. The Nets came away with a huge 104-102 victory that will do wonders for them as far as the playoff race is concerned. After the game, Durant and Drake were spotted together in West Hollywood where they hit up some hot spots and enjoyed a night out on the town.
We're not sure exactly where they went but we're sure a lot of fun was had. Durant is in the midst of his Achilles rehab and seems to be walking just fine. In fact, Durant's progress has been well-documented and now, he can even dunk on some of his teammates which is certainly something to be excited about.
Once Durant gets back into the Nets lineup, we're sure Drake will be very lively whenever they're in town to play against the Raptors.
