Slowthai got a little too comfortable with one of the hosts at the NME Awards and got kicked out after confronting an audience member for booing his actions. After dropping his debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, last May, the U.K.-born rapper has become known for his outrageous antics. He's recently been gaining greater recognition in the United States after his ostentatious performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this month.
The NME Awards, which were held at the O2 Academy in Brixton on Wednesday evening, honoured the artist with the Hero of the Year Award, but the moment didn't go quite as planned.
Slowthai took the stage to accept the award from the night's hosts, comedian Katherine Ryan and Beats 1 presenter Julie Adenuga. However, slowthai's questionable comments toward Katherine as well as his invasion of her personal space rubbed audience members the wrong way.

Things started to go downhill when, later on in the evening, slowthai directly called out an audience member for booing him and "ruining [his] speech" while he was accepting his award. That same audience member called him a "wasteman" which prompted others in attendance to throw drinks (and even a microphone) toward the stage. Slowthai threw his drink right back before jumping into the crowd to confront the person in question. Security intervened and slowthai was removed from the premises.
Many were quick to stand up for Katherine Ryan after it appeared that she had been sexually harassed by the Brit, but the comedian took to Twitter to clear things up.
Responding to a user who condemned slowthai's actions and came to her defense, Katherine tweet, "He didn’t make me uncomfortable. This is why we need women in positions of power. I knew he had lost from the moment he opened his mouth like any heckler coming up against a COMIC - not a woman - a COMIC. I was operating 2/10. What a sweet boy. I defused it. Tonight was fun!" Thursday morning, Slowthai took to Twitter to address the situation as well, asking the NME Awards to give his award to Katherine.
"@nme please forward my award to @kathbum for she is the hero of the year," he tweeted. "What started as a joke between us escalated to a point of shameful actions on my part. i want to unreservedly apologise, there is no excuse and I am sorry. i am not a hero...katherine, you are a master at your craft and next time i’ll take my seat and leave the comedy to you. to any woman or man who saw a reflection of situations they’ve been in in those videos, i am sorry. i promise to do better. let’s talk here." Katherine responded, letting him know there was no bad blood between them.
Dr. Dre, Xzibit & Ice T Are Working On New Music
Dr. Dre, Xzibit, and Ice T linked up for a legend-filled studio session, sparking hopes for new music.
Dr. Dre has been increasingly active of late, much to the delight of hip-hop fans worldwide. Not only did the Good Doctor reunite with his Relapse team to bless Eminem with four Music To Be Murdered By bangers, but he also linked up with Kanye Westto play a role on Jesus Is King 2. Prior to that, Dre served as a watchful guardian over Anderson .Paak‘s two-part epic Oxnard and Ventura. It would appear that inspiration has taken control once again, as Dre recently connected with Xzibit and Ice T for another studio session.

Xzibit, who worked closely with Dre on 2001, as well as his solo albums Restless and Man Vs. Machine, shared pictures of the sessions on his Instagram page. “You have no idea wtf we about to drop like a atom bomb on you.com,” he captions, alongside an image of himself, Dre, and Focus at the boards. Another image depicts X, Dre, Ice T, Focus, Fred Wreck, and Hen Gee mean-mugging the camera.
Given the link-up’s legendary pedigree, it’s no wonder the legendary Ice T also documented the moment. “We started this gangsta shit!” he declares, alongside a badass image of himself and Dre by the recording console. It’s unclear as to whether Ice is working on new music with the Aftermath mogul, but it’s still cool to see him involved in the process. Check out the pictures below, and sound off if you’re looking to hearing another collaboration from Xzibit and Dre. We’ll not soon forget “U Know,” “Best Of Things,” “X,” and “Losin Your Mind.”
Gang Starr Lives On Through Unreleased Guru Freestyle
DJ Premier shares unreleased Guru freestyle, carrying the tradition in the name of Gang Starr.
Gang Starr fans have been in a good place of late. Last year saw the release of a fully-fleshed out album from the legendary duo, One Of The Best Yet, the first since Guru passed away on April 19th, 2010. Now, DJ Premier has come through with another piece of history, sharing a rare acapella Guru freestyle on his Instagram page.

“Don’t base my whole life on loot,” raps Guru, the camera fixed on his focused face. “But money sure help, I keep it tight like army boots / to ensure wealth, used to hang with the older dudes / so I know the rules, notice how these fools hold mics but can’t hold the tool / my struggle is hard, the jungle is large, my man’s locked in the valley, probably walking the yard.” There’s a way about Guru’s delivery that speaks to self-assurance, a charm that speaks to his grounded nature; he told it like it is, never wasting words or Primo beats.
Deemed a “natural talent” by his longtime friend and collaborator DJ Premier, it’s clear to see why Guru remains a respected figure long after his passing. Check out the raw and uncut bars below, and show some love one of hip-hop’s lost ones. Otherwise, run the risk of being stuck down right where you stand.
Jack Harlow Performs "What’s Poppin" On "Tonight Show" TV Debut
Jack Harlow has been making waves since he signed with Generation Now two years ago and performs his latest single for the late-night talk show.
It was a big moment for Jack Harlow as he made his television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. On Wednesday (February 12), the rapper took to the stage to perform “What’s Poppin,” a song that Fallon called his “jam right now.” The 21-year-old Kentucky-bred emcee took to the stage with a pianist to accompany his look.

Jack Harlow delivered his single “What’s Poppin” just weeks ago, but the track is already being hailed as a reintroduction of the Generation Now rapper. There’s been a bit of s style change for the Harlow as fans await the release of his official debut project. In September 2019, Harlow released his acclaimed Confetti mixtape that kept the rapper’s name buzzing in the streets.
As much as Harlow may be an artist to watch, there’s still a shroud around his persona. He previously told XXL that he’s taking notes on how Travis Scott moves. “Soon I might have to implement that untouchable feeling. That’s what Travis [Scott] got,” he said. “If you really wanna take it there, you gotta have that superhero mystique. Muthaf*ckas are gonna have opinions and they’re not gonna feel the transition at first. I used to never use melodies as much as I do now. You can be what you wanna be, that’s the dopest part. I know I can be what Travis is. Not be Travis, but I was being genuine when I said maybe eventually I wanna evolve into that untouchable figure. If that’s what feels real to me at the time, then it’ll be real to everyone else.” Watch his The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon below.
Lil Rel Howery Recalls "Funnier" Improv Version Of Jay-Z’s "Moonlight" Music Video
Lil Rel Howery seems open to revisiting that concept as a special.
If you take a glance at Lil Rel Howery’s IMDB page and see the list of projects he has lined up, it’ll become immediately clear that he’s one of the busiest actors in Hollywood at the moment. The next project we’ll have the opportunity to see him in is The Photograph, a romantic comedy/drama that arrives on Valentine’s Day. Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield star as the movie’s leads and it will not be their first times working alongside Lil Rel – they all appeared in the music video for Jay-Z’s 2017 song, “Moonlight”.
Lil Rel served as the guest on the latest episode of Complex’s “Watch Less” podcast. He was asked about his experience shooting the “Moonlight” video and he revealed that Jay-Z could have gone with a more humorous alternative. The final product was a word-for-word reenactment of an actual Friends episode by a cast of black comedians. However, according to Lil Rey, before they shot this version, the cast – which consisted of Jerrod Carmichael, Issa Rae, Lil Rel Howery, Tiffany Haddish, Tessa Thompson and Lakeith Stanfield – had improvised their own sitcom skit. “There was one rehearsal where we all talked like how we wanted to talk,” Rel explained. “And it was funnier than that episode of Friends.” He also said that the actors had even requested to go with that idea for the official video, but they ultimately opted for the remake.
When Stanfield spoke about the music video on The Tonight Show, he confessed that he had never seen an episode of Friends before participating in that project.
Young Thug, YG, Trippie Redd & More Appear In Trailer For Lil Dicky’s New TV Series
Lil Dicky’s FX original comedy, “DAVE”, gets a release date.
Lil Dicky has a few hit songs in his catalog, or maybe viral videos would be a better way to describe them. “Earth”, “Freaky Friday” and “$ave Dat Money” have all amassed many millions of views on YouTube, but that may be due to creative music video concepts and big name features like Chris Brown and Fetty Wap. On “Professional Rapper”, his collaboration with Snoop Dogg, Dicky consults the OG on how to be taken seriously in the rap game when he lacks all the standard credentials. Dicky starts off the track by introducing himself as Dave, who also appears to be the protagonist in Dicky’s new FX comedy series.
The synopsis of DAVE reads as follows: “A neurotic mid 20’s suburbanite’s convinced he’s destined to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Now he’s to prove it to everyone else.” Based on this description, one could gather that the series is loosely (or strongly) based on Lil Dicky’s career. In the newly-released trailer, Young Thug, Gunna, Trippie Redd and YG all make appearances. Dave will likely cross paths with all of these rappers in his attempts to accrue clout and climb the ladder to stardom.
The series, which Kevin Hart has a hand in producing, will premiere on FXX and Hulu on March 4.
Barbara Streisand Voted For Eminem’s "Lose Yourself" At 2003 Oscars
Barbara Streisand revealed that she voted for Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” from “8 Mile” for “Best Original Song” at the 2003 Oscars.
Barbara Streisand revealed that not only did she present Eminem‘s award for “Best Original Song” at the 2003 Oscars for “Lose Yourself,” she actually voted for the 8 Mile anthem in that category. Eminem’s surprise performance of “Lose Yourself” at the Oscars on Sunday night caught plenty of people off guard and sparked major confusion. While it was certainly unexpected, his performance was framed as a celebration of how songs have defined the films for which they were written over time, since Em notably won the Oscar for “Best Original Song” 17 years prior to this year’s Academy Awards.

On Monday, Em shared a clip of the moment he was announced as the winner of “Best Original Song” back in 2003, an award he wasn’t able to accept in person since he was so convinced he wouldn’t win that he didn’t even attend the ceremony. In the caption of the video, in which Barbara Streisand presented the award to one of Em’s co-writers for “Lose Yourself,” Luis Resto, Em wrote, “Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity… Thanks for having me @theacademy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here.”
Barbara reposted the video on her own Instagram account, and revealed in the caption that she actually played a larger role in getting Eminem that Oscar that he ever knew.
“@eminem I had voted for your song too!” Barbara wrote. “Was really looking forward to handing you the award. Next time!” While he wasn’t able to bask in his victory back then, Em has shared that this year’s performance was his opportunity do just that. “I kinda figured maybe since I didn’t get a chance to do it at the time, maybe it would be cool,” he noted.

The Backstreet Boys Join Jimmy Fallon To Perform "The Thong Song"
The Backstreet Boys & The Ragtime Gals bring you a re-imagining of “The Thong Song”.
Jimmy Fallon has been doing the barbershop quartet bit on The Tonight Show for quite some time now. While it started out as a four-person affair – Jimmy joined by three other members to form The Ragtime Gals – they have begun to enlist celebs to hop in on the fun. Sting, Weezer, Justin Timberlake and Tina Fey have all lent their voices to perform jubilant accapella covers of songs that you would never imagine to be sung in this manner.
The latest edition of this sketch recruited The Backstreet Boys for Sisqo’s 1999 hit, “The Thong Song”. It’s remarkable how long the boy band has remained active and relevant, still touring and releasing projects to this day. Their ninth studio album, DNA, arrived last January and they are celebrating it with a massive North American tour this summer. “We play our hits, we dance our a–es off and we do it because we love our fans. We can’t wait to take this show on the road again this summer,” the group wrote when announcing the 44-stop trek.
