Brooks was killed Friday night after an altercation with a police officer in Atlanta. While resisting arrest, Brooks wrestled a taser away from one of his arresting officers and began to flee. "The fight started when they tried to make an arrest ... after that he took a taser and took off," an eyewitness said. The officer then shot his firearm at Brooks.
Brooks was rushed to the hospital, where he died soon after.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has condemned the actions of the officer who shot Brooks saying, "There is a clear distinction between what you can do and what you should do."
"I do not believe this was a justified use of deadly force," she added.
Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields has resigned from her position. "APD has my full support, and Mayor Bottoms has my support on the future direction of this department. I have faith in the Mayor, and it is time for the city to move forward and build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve," she said.

Trina At Risk Of Losing Radio Gig Over "Animal" Protester Comments
A petition demanding that Trina be fired from “The Trick N Trina Morning Show” on 99 Jamz Radio for calling protesters “animals” is racking up a ton of signatures.
Trina could very well lose her job at 99 Jamz Radio if her bosses decide give in to the pressure coming from a petition asking for her termination from “The Trick N Trina Morning Show” due to her recent comments comparing protesters to “animals.” Trina received a ton of backlash after going on a rant about people looting and damaging property in Miami in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, in which she compared these protesters to “animals” that “have escaped from the zoo.” Trina went on to clarify her remarks and apologize several times, but it looks like tons of folks still want to see her lose her radio gig as punishment.

As of Friday, June 12th, the Change.org petition to have Trina fired has racked up over 13,000 signatures, nearly reaching the 15,000 goal. “Trina has taken it upon herself to condemn the residents of Miami who participated in the recent protests, live on air, in the most HEINOUS of ways,” the petition reads. “Not only did she lump protestors and the handful of looters together, but Ms. Taylor also took it upon herself to refer to protestors, who were majority Black and people of color, as ‘ANIMALS running the streets.”
“It is with great disgust that, I, and many other Black Miami natives have to hear such derogatory and disrespectful speech from someone who has only seen success because of OUR support,” the petition continues. “To make matters worse, Trina made such erroneous statements on a radio station that has a majority BLACK audience after we’ve endured her obnoxious attitude and middle school reading level for months. Not only did she let such ignorant and grotesque statements leave her mouth, she stood firm on them as her co-hosts tried to remind her to watch her words. Clearly, she meant what she said, so an apology will NOT do. Trina needs to be removed from this radio show IMMEDIATELY — it is the only way 99Jamz/Cox Media Group can make it up to its listeners.”
Do you think Trina should have to lose her job over this?
Chicago Police Napped In Congressman’s Office While Protestors Looted Shops
Chicago police officers took naps and made coffee and popcorn in a local congressman’s office while protesters looted shops, according to officials.
A few cops snuck away from the protests going on in the streets of Chicago earlier this month, and headed into a local congressman’s office to make coffee and popcorn and have a snooze, according to officials. On Thursday (June 11th), The Chicago Tribune reported that at least eight Chicago PD officers were hiding out in US Rep. Bobby Rush’s district office at 54th Street and South Wentworth Avenue on June 1st while protests were in full swing outside. Rush, a Chicago congressman since 1963 and founding member of the Illinois Black Panther Party, caught the officers red-handed after he’d received a phone call indicating that his office had been burglarized. He proceeded to review his security footage and was shocked by what he discovered.
“One was asleep on my couch in my campaign office,” Rush noted at a press conference. “They even had the unmitigated gall to go and make coffee for themselves and to pop popcorn, my popcorn, in my microwave while looters were tearing apart businesses within sight and within their reach. They were in a mode of relaxation and they did not care about what was happening to businesspeople, to this city. They didn’t care. They absolutely didn’t care.”

Rush informed Mayor Lori Lightfoot of the wild misconduct, which had her “enraged.” “That’s a personal embarrassment to me,” Lightfoot confessed, as she publicly apologized to Rush on Thursday. “I’m sorry that you and your staff even had to deal with this incredible indignity. Not one of these officers will be allowed to hide behind the badge and go on and act like nothing happened.” Lightfoot indicated that the Chicago PD’s Internal Affairs Division will be reviewing the incident while the state attorney general’s office launches an investigation. She urged the guilty officers to come forward and reveal themselves.
Man Wearing Black Face At Anti-Racism Protest In Toronto Arrested
No charges have been laid after Toronto police arrested the man.
Cities across Canada are hosting their own protests against racism and police brutality in response to the ongoing demonstrations in America. Protests in Toronto have been taking place all week and while they've gone on without a hitch for the most part, there was one man who attempted to stir up controversy with a Black face costume.
Videos emerged from the protest yesterday of a man wearing a Blackface costume as he walked through the crowd. The tensions rose and at one point, he was in the midst of a heated confrontation all while being surrounded by police. He argued that he wasn't "trying to be disruptive" even with the paint, though he's heard yelling at a protester, "If I want to put it on my face, I'll put it on my face." Sounds like something that should be reserved for bedroom dialogue, but anyways.
Per Global News, Toronto Police escorted him out and arrested him for breach of peace. Though they said that was what he was initially charged with, they stated that no charges have actually been laid and “inquiries continue.”
Along with the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, protests in Toronto were organized following the death of 29-year-old Regis Korchinski-Paquet. Paquet died after falling from her balcony after police were called for a wellness check. This story is unfortunately not the only one of its kind in Canada. Stories of mental health checks done by the police gone awry have made headlines this week in the wake of George Floyd's murder.
Black Lives Matter Protesters Engage In School Bus Dunk Contest
Some of the protesters are trying to keep things light as they march for social justice.
Protesters are marching all across the United States as they seek to see real change when it comes to injustice and police brutality. After George Floyd was murdered by the police in Minneapolis, it became clear that people weren’t going to stand for these atrocities any longer and the protests are a prime example of that.
Protesting all day long can definitely get hard and when the subject matter is so heavy, it is important to maintain your mental health and keep things light every once in a while. Well, in the video clip below, that’s exactly what some demonstrators did. As you can see, they placed a basketball net on a school bus and wrote “Black Lives Matter” on the backboard. From there, they engaged in a friendly dunk contest that featured some pretty incredible athletic feats.
Certain media organizations would rather post videos of rioters and looters who aren’t even real members of the protests. However, when it comes to heartwarming clips like this, they stay silent. It’s clear as day that many of the protesters want to bring about real change while also providing a safe space for members of the community. While this dunk contest may play well to social media, it speaks to the idea that these protests are overwhelmingly positive and are bringing folks together.
The NBA should have these guys take part in the dunk contest at next season’s all-star game.
Michigan Grandma Swings Bat At Protesters: "I’m Gonna Protect My Property"
A 75-year-old Michigan woman swung a bat at protesters in an attempt to “protect [her] property” from getting damaged.
A 75-year-old bat-wielding grandma in Michigan can be seen in a new clip trying to ward off peaceful protesters, claiming she was trying to “protect [her] property.” On Wednesday (June 3rd), Karla Anderson, the elderly resident of East Grand Rapids, tried to block those protesting the murder of George Floyd and all victims of police brutality from marching down the street in her affluent neighbourhood.
“I’m gonna protect my property,” she can be heard saying to the protesters, holding up her bat in defence. “You have no right to riot!” As the crowd gets closer to her, a few people try to grab the bat from her, while others guard her and direct her to a less crowded area of the street. “What the f*ck was that?” a voice, that appears to be coming from the person filming, can be heard wondering aloud.
“I just simply stated, you know, ‘You’re not going to burn down East [Grand Rapids],’” she later told local news station and NBC affiliate, WOOD TV. “This is not about Black Lives Matter, this is about racial division.” She also added that she believed Antifa was involved in the protest, despite a lack of evidence that this was at all true. Watch the clip below to see what went down:
Police Arrest Cyclist Who Attacked People Posting George Floyd Fliers
Anthony Brennan III has been charged with assault after attacking Black Lives Matters supporters posting George Floyd fliers.
News of George Floyd's death has expanded beyond just the United States. Cities in Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia have had their own demonstrations in solidarity with the Black community. Unfortunately, even while many try to dismantle an injustice system, there are clearly others who want to see it in place.
If you've been on social media at all over the past few days, you've probably seen the clip of the White man who attacked three young adults who were posting signs in the park to commemorate George Floyd. The suspect, ID'd as Anthony Brennan III, was on his bicycle when he attacked two young women and a man in an attempt to grab the fliers from their hands. Brennan ultimately assaulted one of the women when he forcibly grabbed her arm to the fliers out of her hand before trying to run the male recording the video with his bike.
He has since been arrested and charged with three counts of second-degree assault. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he ultimately turned himself in.
Needless to say, he's been fired from his job as executive VP of a company named MadeToOrder. "We discovered one of our employees engaged in disturbing, wrongful, and completely unacceptable behavior directed towards peaceful demonstrators," the note reads. "MadeToOrder has zero tolerance for this behavior, and we took immediate and decisive action, terminating the employee."
Meanwhile, he's shared a statement apologizing to the teens through his attorneys.
Anthony Brennan recognizes that his outrageous behavior toward the young adult victims on the Crescent Trail was unacceptable and wrong.
The outrage felt in our community and across our country is completely justified.
Unfortunately, several innocent people were also victimized by having been erroneously identified online, and their reputations were tarnished.
Mr. Brennan understands that his apology will not be enough to right his wrongs:
“I am sick with remorse for the pain and fear I caused the victims on the trail, and online. I am cooperating fully with authorities. I am committed to making amends by addressing, through counseling, the underlying issues that led to my abhorrent behavior.
I am dedicated to working with the Montgomery County State Attorney’s Office to provide peace to our community and justice to the victims in the video, as well as to all victims of racism and police brutality.”
Flint Police Put Down Weapons, Join Protesters In George Floyd March
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson stands with protesters.
At a time when the need for change is long overdue, police forces across America are witnessing a retaliation against years and years of police brutality against the Black community. Though Minneapolis and other cities are being heavily policed with protesters dealing with excessive force by law enforcement, a police Sheriff in Flint, MI took a different approach.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson joined protesters in the Flint Township where he shared an uplifting message to everyone in attendance. "The only reason we're here is to make sure you got a voice. That's it. Don't think for a second that he represents who these cops are from all over the county," he said. "We got out there to help people not to do that nonsense."
He added, "We want to be with y'all for real. I took my helmet off, they laid their batons down. I want to make this a parade, not a protest."
The police officer assured those that were in attendance that they were there to help in any way that they're able to. As people began chanting "Walk With Us," Sheriff Swanson began signaling protesters to walk with him.
"This is the way it's supposed to be ... police working with the community," he said. "When we see injustice, we call it out on the police side and on the community side. All we had to do was talk to them, and now we're walking with them."
Bus Driver Praised After Refusing To Transport Arrested Protesters In NYC
The NYPD tried to turn a bus into a police transport but the driver had no interest in being part of that.
While George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, his death has sparked widespread outrage throughout the United States of America, and protests are happening in almost every state. New York has been known for its fair share of police brutality over the years so it's not surprising that there were some heavy protests in Brooklyn and the surrounding areas yesterday.
At one point, numerous protesters around the Barclays Center were arrested and placed in a bus made specifically for public transportation. The bus driver was told to transport the arrested protesters to a nearby jail. Surprisingly, the bus driver was having none of that and walked off the bus in protest. As soon as protesters realized what was happening, they gave the driver a very deserved standing ovation.
Later last night, public transport companies noted on social media that they work for the people and not the police. Many on social media also worked hard to keep the identity of the bus driver private as they could be in danger if any personal information about the driver became public.
These protests are certainly bringing a lot of people together and it's incredible to see everyone so united for an important cause.
Stay tuned for updates as we will bring you the latest.
Tomi Lahren Parrots Trump "Thug" Remarks And Disparages Protesters
Birds of a feather flock together.
Many people throughout the United States are hurting right now due to the police killing of George Floyd in broad daylight. Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin used excessive force on Floyd and ultimately killed him. The entire act was caught on camera and the images of the tragedy have been embedded in the psyche of the American people. Justifiably, many are angry at what has transpired and protests are now going on all throughout the nation.
After peaceful protests were not getting the job done, riots and acts of looting were committed. Some believe these acts are completely justified while conservative-leaning people such as the President and Tomi Lahren, are upset at what they are seeing. Today, Trump called the protesters "thugs" which is a word he never seems to use for white protesters. Not surprisingly, Lahren also used it while speaking on those who were voicing their displeasure with America's institutions.
As one can imagine, Lahren caught quite a bit of flack for these tweets and justifiably so. At a time like this, you don't want to be parroting the President, yet, here we are.
Meanwhile, some good news had come out today as it was revealed that the officer who killed Floyd, Derek Chauvin, has been arrested.
