For many years mystery has surrounded the whereabouts of Malcolm In The Middle actor Erik Per Sullivan – but what happened to him after the show ended?
The popular US show ran for five seasons between 2000-2006 and followed the story of genius Malcolm, his brothers and parents.
Sullivan starred in the series alongside Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield.
In the show, Sullivan played Dewey who was the youngest of the brothers.
Sullivan has been off the radar since the show ended and now, Kaczmarek, who played his mother Lois on the show, has opened up about where he is now.
Speaking to Malcolm France, a YouTube show dedicated to the sitcom, she revealed: “He’s well, he’s very, very well…He did Malcolm for seven years, he started at seven, he ended at 14. He wasn’t interested in acting, at all.”
She went on to reveal that he’s now a student in the US.
“He goes to school at a very prestigious American university that he’s asked us all to be quiet about and he loves Charles Dickens. He’s doing graduate work in Victorian literature. I admire it because so many people think being in show business is the greatest thing in the world, it’s not for everyone.”

Previously, Frankie Muniz, who starred as titular character Malcolm on the show, revealed that he hadn’t heard from Sullivan for some time (via Metro).
He explained: “I’ve talked to him a few times since the show ended. I’ve talked to his parents a lot. When I was in the band, we went and played in the city where he lives and his parents came to the show but unfortunately he couldn’t make it.
“So I got to talk to them, and he’s been all over doing a lot of different things. But one thing I know, some actors or some people just got to do it when they were a kid and then they wanted to experience other things and kind of live a more normal life out of the spotlight. I think that’s what he wanted to do so good for him.”
Back in April, Muniz announced that a Malcolm in the Middle reboot was the “closest it’s ever been” to happening. In a TikTok video, Muniz told viewers: “Without giving away too much, because there’s nothing confirmed – I can say that, but I know that it is the closest it’s ever been to being a reality, I can say that.”
He continued: “So if it’s going to happen it’ll happen soon but, you know, we’ve also been saying that for eight years.”
Muniz’s comment echo the sentiments expressed by Bryan Cranston in an exclusive interview with NME. Cranston played father Hal on the series before his pivotal role as Walter White in Breaking Bad.
“I have a greater appreciation of even what the show is and was and would love to dive in with all of those people again to do it,” he told NME last year. “So many shows have been rebooted, and so many shows shouldn’t have been rebooted. So I don’t want to be like just one of those shows – it has to make sense, it has to be good. So we’ll see.”
