B0YG1RL have mastered the art of the high-octane dancefloor experience. The omnivorous electronic duo has carved out a unique space for themselves by blending Miami bass with a diverse array of regional sounds, including baile funk, Haitian konpas, and dembow riddims. While these influences might feel familiar to those entrenched in the EDM circuit, the execution by B0YG1RL remains refreshingly raw and delightfully off-kilter.
Their March EP, 777, was a relentless, high-energy riot defined by fizzing synths and aggressive basslines. The project included the standout single “Je M’appelle Tété,” which quickly established itself as a frontrunner for song of the summer. It is little wonder that the Novagang affiliates have already garnered support from notable artists such as Nick Leon and Ninajirachi.
Singer-producers June Vinette and Angela Rio have now returned with their latest EP, EXIT 2B. Named after the offramp to Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, the project features collaborations with Isabella Lovestory and KAY NIVE$. While the energy remains high, the pacing on EXIT 2B shows a newfound maturity; the duo incorporates downtempo tracks like “Burn” and “Take Me Home” to provide a necessary grounding for their more explosive, redlining peaks. The project also showcases a wider sonic palette, shifting from the heavy 808s of “My people will destroy you” to the intricate, percussive shuffle of “Declaration.”
“Soleil,” featuring Isabella Lovestory, stands out as the project’s centerpiece. Vinette’s bratty, infectious hook serves as the perfect springboard for Lovestory to deliver a performance that is both haughty and brash. The back-and-forth chant of “I am the sun” is destined to become a club staple. Elsewhere, the woozy, atmospheric lurch of “Burn” highlights the duo’s ability to manipulate tension, with Vinette’s vocals surging and receding like a tide over plucked guitar lines and booming percussion. As their profile continues to rise, EXIT 2B is poised to be the soundtrack of the season.
