Yung Miami Addresses Estranged Friendship with JT on “Dear JT”

Today, October 23, 2026, Yung Miami (Caresha Brownlee) officially released her debut solo album, Watch Dis!. Among the 21 tracks on the project is the poignant song “Dear JT,” a direct address to her former partner in the rap duo City Girls, Jatavia Johnson, known professionally as JT. The release marks the first time either artist has publicly addressed their high-profile falling out, which occurred in 2024.

The track features a melancholic production style, elevated by emotional background vocals from Tiffany Evans. Throughout the song, Miami offers a bittersweet reflection on the years she spent alongside JT, recounting shared memories that range from physical altercations to shopping trips in Barcelona. “Reminiscing in my feelings bout 2018, it was a scene,” she raps, while Evans’ chorus repeatedly harmonizes, “Ooh, I’m missin’ you,” underscoring the sense of loss.

The duo first formed City Girls in 2017, quickly rising to prominence with the hit “Fu*k Dat Ni**a.” Their 2018 breakout year saw them sign with Quality Control and release both a mixtape and a debut album, followed by a high-profile appearance by Yung Miami in Drake’s “In My Feelings” video. Despite their consistent commercial success and multiple awards, tensions began to mount following their 2023 album, RAW. These issues, compounded by public social media disputes in early 2024, ultimately led to the group’s dissolution later that year.

In a recent interview with HOT 97, Miami revealed that the creative process for “Dear JT” was deeply emotional, noting that she cried while recording the track. She admitted that she did not share the song with JT prior to its release and that there has been no response from her former bandmate yet. However, Miami remains open to reconciliation, stating, “If the phone call happens, I’ma answer it, and we’ll go from there.”
