Peg Luke, a distinguished artist with nominations for both Emmy and Grammy awards, unveils her latest musical creation, "The Church's One Foundation." With a career marked by performances at illustrious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Cadogan Hall, Luke's music resonates deeply with audiences worldwide, offering a soul-stirring journey of introspection and spiritual depth.
In the midst of grappling with a life-altering autoimmune diagnosis three years ago, Peg Luke turned to her music as a source of solace and inspiration. Despite the tumultuous landscape of the pandemic, she remains resolute in her mission to spread positivity and hope through her artistry. With an unwavering commitment to conveying messages of faith and connection, Luke's music serves as a guiding light in times of uncertainty, reminding listeners of the enduring bond between humanity and the divine.
From a tender age, Peg Luke exhibited a remarkable musical aptitude, mastering the piano at five and the flute at seven. This early passion for music propelled her to embark on ambitious projects, including her own Psalm Space and her acclaimed 2023 Christmas collection. With a magnetic stage presence and exceptional talent, Luke has earned accolades for her ability to captivate audiences with her emotive performances.
Peg Luke ’s Reflections On “Dirt Under His Nails” And The Divine Role Of Her Music
Celebrated artist and versatile musician, Peg Luke, has recently released her latest single, “Dirt Under His Nails,” a song that dives into the themes of sacrifice and love, drawing inspiration from a deep contemplation of the human aspect of Jesus Christ. In our interview, she reveals that this introspective exploration has profoundly reshaped her perception of Jesus, highlighting His relatable and human qualities.
Peg sees parallels between this exploration and the overarching storyline of her career, marked by personal challenges, including a rare autoimmune disease diagnosis, pandemic isolation, and a transformative evolution. The emotionally charged video re-enacting the crucifixion of Jesus reflects Luke’s commitment to visually encapsulate her music’s essence and convey life’s raw truths.
Through vivid lyrics, she portrays Jesus’ suffering and sacrifice, inviting listeners to find their own stories within the narrative. Peg’s music, including “Dirt Under His Nails,” continues her legacy of sharing messages that challenge, comfort, and heal. Her work addresses universal topics like love, redemption, and spiritual yearning, connecting with audiences on a deep and soulful level.
What led you to explore the themes of sacrifice and love in “Dirt Under His Nails,” and how does this song connect with the overarching storyline of your career?
I read this wonderful meditation about the human side of Jesus Christ. It stated how Jesus had “Dirt Under His Nails,” calluses on His feet, how He healed the sick and bore bodily pain. The meditation basically was stating how Jesus was like you and me when He lived here on Earth. This meditation for some reason really affected me. It made me take a step back and consider each descriptive word written on that page.
I normally had thought of Jesus in a ‘heavenly aura’ not a ‘human’ one. I always thought of Him as untouchable to the human dilemma. The dilemma of human feelings, fragility, and imperfections. This meditation made me change my concept of the human Jesus. From this came my song, “Dirt Under His Nails.”
I think in a very veiled way “Dirt Under His Nails” resembles the overarching storyline of my career. I have had to step back and reexamine my concepts of what I wanted my musical career to look like. My diagnosis of a rare life changing autoimmune disease a few years back which has changed my career and the way I carry it to fruition. The pandemic, my bodily intolerance of the vaccine, the years of isolation, the huge presence of my invisible God and my stepping forward into a side of a music career I could have never envisioned. The evidence of everyday miracles. Yes, ‘Dirt’ symbolizes this.
Could you share the creative process behind the emotionally charged music video re-enacting the crucifixion of Jesus, and what messages you intended to convey with these visuals?
One thing I really enjoy doing (although it can be time consuming) is creating video and photos that encapsulate the music itself. I use specific applications that help me achieve this. I take the lyrics and the visuals that I have in my head when I create the music and try to convey and expand those images when I create the video. I knew when I created the video that accompanied “Dirt Under His Nails,” that it may offend or be hard to watch. But truly, life is not all about beauty. Life can be hard and even harder to experience. I tried to express the truth behind the lyrics, the truth behind the music, the truth about life itself. There is a story that needs to be told and someone should do it. I just happen to be that “someone” in this instance.
How did you go about creating lyrics that vividly depict Jesus’ suffering and sacrifice, aiming to make this experience relatable and tangible for your audience?
Going back to that original meditation, I was moved by the descriptive words used. I tried to use that same process when going about placing lyrics into a melody that demands honesty, detail, and integrity. It’s an important message and my use of the words dirt, thorns, tears, nails, calvary, and even ‘sheepskin sandals’ are all extremely important. I want the listener and viewer to see their own story in the descriptive events I am trying to portray. The music helps to digest this pictorial experience.
Considering your impressive journey marked by Grammy and Emmy nominations and a notable discography, how does “Dirt Under His Nails” align with your growth, and what role do you envision it playing in shaping your artistic legacy?
Each and every tune that I compose or arrange has a story. There is a reason why I need to tell it. I don’t put out music and lyrics because I want to create a new song every week. I don’t put out music and lyrics because I want people to “feel fuzzy” inside. I don’t compose music for a good groove or vibe. My music can make you feel loved, seen, comforted, and healed. But sometimes my music can make you a bit uncomfortable.
I compose music and in some instances write lyrics because there is a need and a reason to do it. There is an emotion that needs to be told. I have done too many musical endeavors to place music out there now just to “place it out there.” It is more important because I place my music out there for my listeners. I don’t do it for me. Like I say to so many people, “I am just the messenger.” God uses me. Earthly rewards and accolades are not what’s important. Telling God’s stories, that is what is important.
How do you perceive your songs connecting with today’s audiences in light of its exploration of universal and timeless themes like love, redemption, and spiritual yearning? What role do you think music plays in addressing these topics in our modern society?
I hope my music connects with listeners and society. It needs to. The message needs to keep coming out until people believe it. I write my own style of music. It does not belong in a box or genre. It just needs to connect. I have been rejected by many radio stations because my music doesn’t fit that “Christian/Gospel” mode. I ask, did Jesus fit in? Question answered. I keep doing my thing. Let God’s message keep coming!
Could you provide an example of how your music has brought people together and sparked positive change or a sense of community among your listeners?
The most recent and deeply felt communication that I’ve had was from my community on the ground in Ukraine. I try desperately to get my message of God’s love and peace to people there. I received and continue to receive love and positive uplifting messages that my music has given them hope. I wish I could give them more. Perhaps, worldly peace. At least I can try to offer them God’s peace. It is a very important message. I have also had many people that have encountered first-hand loss come to me offering thanks for my musical message.
What key lesson about faith, perseverance, and the music industry would you like to share with your fans and fellow artists as the most significant takeaway from your experience?
First of all I would like to say that my experience is far from being over. I feel like I have just begun. Funny how that happens. I think if we stay open, open our hearts, open our minds and open our soul to whatever you believe is being said to you from inside of you (whatever source that may be), you will continue to thrive and spread joy in whatever you do.
It’s not easy and can be scary. That internal source for me happens to be God. God has never steered me wrong and I look to God to continue to offer me strength, love, and courage to keep going on my musical life path, whatever that may be. You’ll just have to wait and see what’s next. It keeps my life exciting! I am forever grateful for all that I’ve been given and continue to be given. I hope my community of listeners can sense the joy, peace, and love that I get from doing this.

Porridge Radio announce new album and share ‘Back To The Radio’
Porridge Radio have announced details of their third album ‘Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky’ and shared its first single ‘Back To The Radio’.
- READ MORE: Porridge Radio: “I’ve always known that we’re the best band in the world”
The band have also confirmed their biggest-ever UK headline tour alongside a series of intimate in-store shows around the record’s release.
‘Back To The Radio’ was written by frontperson Dana Margolin ahead of the release of the group’s acclaimed 2020 album ‘Every Bad’, a time when she felt like “a lot of things were coming that I wasn’t sure I knew how to handle”.
“The song grew out of a feeling of intense loneliness and being unprepared for what everybody was promising me was about to happen – and a strong desire to escape without knowing what I wanted to escape to,” she said in a press release. “To me, there’s a huge feeling of catharsis in this song, of letting go and letting it sweep you away.”
The song comes with a video directed by Margolin’s sister Ella and finds the singer waking up in a room where papier-mâché furniture is slowly being removed one by one. Later, she joins the rest of Porridge Radio in a room decorated with landscape scenery as people dressed all in black move her around the space. Watch it above.
‘Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky’ is released on May 20 via Secretly Canadian.
“With this album, the feelings of joy, fear and endlessness coexist together,” Margolin said of the record as a whole, adding that its title “symbolises the ups and downs of human life, of virtue and transgression”.
‘Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky’ tracklist:

Hundreds of exclusive releases have been revealed for Record Store Day 2022, including records from the likes of Blur, Taylor Swift, Elvis, Bring Me The Horizon, Pinkpanthress, Sam Fender, Blondie and many more. Check out the full list below.
Returning for the 15th time on April 23, RSD will see hundreds of vinyl, CD and cassette releases sold exclusively through independent record shops – with over 260 stores from every corner of the UK and thousands around the world taking part in the celebrations.
This comes after the Entertainment Retailers Association’s recent report that showed that vinyl sales in the UK are at their highest level in over 30 years, growing a further 23 per cent year on year in 2021.
Mina Koroma, store manager at Liverpool’s Jacaranda Records, said: “We can’t wait to see Record Store Day back in full force at Jacaranda Records. Our community of musicians, DJs and record fans thrives on getting together to share ideas and experiences.
“RSD is always a great chance to do that, especially at such a challenging time for shops like ours. We’re excited for scenes all over the UK to keep growing their collections and adding to their fond memories of times spent at record stores.”
Last month, Taylor Swift was announced as the first global amabassador of Record store Day 2022.
“I’m very proud to be this year’s Ambassador for Record Store Day. The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me,” the singer explained. “Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion. They create settings for live events. They employ people who adore music thoroughly and purely.”
Swift went on to acknowledge the “rough few years” that independent record shops have faced as a result of the COVID pandemic, adding: “We need to support these small businesses more now than ever to make sure they can stay alive, stay eccentric, and stay individual.”

Dear John: John Lennon tribute show set to be livestreamed next month
Details of a new John Lennon tribute event, Dear John, have been announced.
- ORDER NOW: The Rolling Stones are on the cover of Uncut’s November 2021 issue
- READ MORE: Hear three tracks from The Beatles’ new Let It Be special editions
The online event will follow on from the release earlier this year of the Dear John tribute album, which featured Lennon covers by a range of artists and raised money for War Child.
A livestream tribute concert will now take place on October 9 to mark what would have been Lennon‘s 81st birthday, with the event benefitting War Child once again.
Organised by Blurred Vision frontman Sepp Osley with his partner/singer-songwriter Mollie Marriott, Dear John will be hosted by BBC presenter Bob Harris and feature a host of special guests who perform Lennon and Beatles covers, as well as providing “personal messages of peace and love throughout the night”.
Martin Freeman, Peter Frampton, Matt Lucas, Jack Savoretti, Fearne Cotton, Yola, Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver), Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting), fashion designer Pam Hogg, Mark Williams (Harry Potter, Red Dwarf), Joe Brown, Sam Brown, Judie Tzuke, Scott Matthews, Chloe Foy, Baby Sol, Luke Friend, Minh, Jo Harman, Elles Bailey, Jasmine Rodgers, Scott McKeon, Gavin Conder, Laura Evans and more will all take part.
![](https://www.uncut.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Livestream-Poster-Copy-1.jpeg)
Speaking about the 2021 Dear John concert, Osley – whose band Blurred Vision will provide backing on the night as the ‘house band’ – said: “Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the success that this humble event conjured in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. It all began with a simple concept of celebrating the legacy that John Lennon left behind.
“A legacy of peace and unity and love on a global scale, and now to be able to perform these timeless songs with so many heroes and contemporaries of the music world, while raising money for this incredible charity at such a crucial time, is something I could never have conceived or believed when I began my tumultuous journey on this planet.”
A one-off ticketed event, all donations and net proceeds raised from the show will go directly to the War Child charity. You can find tickets for Dear John here.
Noel Gallagher recently revealed that he intends to release his cover of John Lennon‘s “Mind Games”, which he recorded to mark the late Beatle‘s 80th birthday last year.
Tyler, The Creator claims A$AP Rocky ignored request to be on his new album
Tyler, The Creator has claimed that A$AP Rocky ignored his request to be on his new album ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’.
- READ MORE: Tyler, The Creator – ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ review: a love letter to the genre that made him
The rapper’s sixth studio album, which is hosted by DJ Drama, arrived last month (June 25) and features guest spots from Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, Pharrell, Brent Faiyaz, Ty Dolla $ign and more.
However, one name fans were surprised not to see on the tracklist was Tyler’s longtime friend A$AP Rocky. The pair last collaborated on 2018’s ‘Potato Salad’, in the video for which they teased a potential joint project called ‘WANG$AP’ – though it was never confirmed by either artist.
During one of Tyler’s recent pop-up shows to support the release of ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’, the Odd Future rapper revealed that one of the tracks on the album, ‘Corso’, was made with Rocky in mind, but he claimed that the ‘Praise The Lord’ rapper failed to come back to him when he reached out to get him on the record.
“I made that beat for me and Rocky shit, but that n***a ignored me for five months,” Tyler said, addressing the crowd.
“So the middle part where DJ Drama is yelling and I’m not rapping, that was for Rocky, but the n***a…,” Tyler added before throwing his arms in the air. You can see a clip from the show below.

In a four-star review of ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’, NME‘s Luke Morgan Britton wrote: “The record stands as an all-encompassing culmination of Tyler’s ever-varying sound, showing that growth isn’t always linear and that artists can be a multitude of things.
“On ‘Call Me…’, Tyler cements his place as a generational talent, one in fine form and continuing to push the boundaries of his vision and kaleidoscopic sound.”
The album topped the Billboard 200 Album Chart, shifting the equivalent of 169,000 album units in the US in the week ending July 1, based on album sales, track and streaming figures.
Tyler, The Creator recently shared the livestream recording of his Brooklyn show which was held to celebrate ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’.

“The Warehouse Project’s 2021 season marks the long-awaited return to the dancefloor that everyone has been waiting for: a return to music, to dancing and to weekends,” a WHP press release said. “Defining moments and shared experiences with everyone under one roof again for a full-spectrum of music and cultural immersion.”
All restrictions on live events in the UK are set to end on July 19 following a new speech from Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday (July 5).
Listen to Thom Yorke’s latest Sonos Radio Hour mix featuring Ennio Morricone, Yaeji and more
Thom Yorke has shared a new Radio Hour mix for Sonos, with Ennio Morricone, Yaeji, Mark Pritchard and Luke Abbott featuring in his playlist.

The mix, officially titled ‘In The Absence Of’, follows a trio of 60-minute playlists made for the audio brand in 2020 which included James Blake, Nicki Minaj and JPEGMAFIA.
Now, the Radiohead frontman and soloist has delivered a longer edition clocking in at 1 hour 16 minutes, with a typically eclectic selection of music.

Sonos has described Yorke’s curation as “leftfield and exploratory”, veering from legendary Italian composer Ennio Morricone to easy listening aficionado Les Baxter, and from his past collaborator Mark Pritchard to electronic producer and electro-jazz wizard Luke Abbott.
In other news, Yorke, Burial and Four Tet’s recent AA-side collaboration ‘Her Revolution’ and ‘His Rope’ has landed on streaming services.
The two tracks were previously only available on black-label vinyl, which went on sale in London at two record stores last month (December 2) after the UK’s second lockdown was lifted.
Elsewhere, Yorke also paid tribute recently to rapper and producer MF DOOM who passed away last month. “Am so sad to hear MF Doom’s passing,” the musician tweeted. “He was a massive inspiration to so many of us, changed things.. for me the way he put words was often shocking in its genius, using stream of consciousness in a way i’d never heard before.”
DOOM once hinted that a joint album with Yorke was in the works, however the project never materialised.
Chance The Rapper is being sued for $3million by his ex-manager
Chance the Rapper‘s former manager is demanding $3 (£2.2million) in unpaid commissions from the rapper as part of a new lawsuit.
Pat Corcoran, widely known as Pat the Manager, alleges the rapper ignored his advice regarding the timing of releasing his debut album ‘The Big Day’, and then fired him after the 2019 record failed to light up the charts.
In court papers filed last month, Corcoran alleges that Chance felt the need to capitalise on the success of his three early mixtapes and announced the album release date before he had even recorded any material – even though its scheduled arrival was just five months away.
He explained: “Procrastination and lackadaisical effort, perpetuated by various hangers-on uninterested in the hard work of writing and recording, resulted in a freestyle-driven product of subpar quality.”
While the album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, it received a lukewarm reaction from fans and critics – prompting the rapper to scrap a tour at the last minute.
Corcoran claims he had urged Chance to cancel the dates immediately after the album release failed to go to plan, but he waited until just five days until the album’s arrival.
The manager was eventually fired in April, with Chance instead appointing his brother, rapper Taylor Bennett, and their father, Ken Williams-Bennett, to oversee his affairs – despite a perceived lack of experience in the music industry.
Corcoran claims he was used as a scapegoat for the album’s failure, “rather than accept that his own lack of dedication had doomed the project,” and claims that Chance is refusing to pay for work completed.
Williams-Bennett has offered him $350,000 (£260,400) to settle the dispute. In a statement given to Pitchfork, representatives for Chance wrote: “Mr. Corcoran has filed a suit for allegedly unpaid commissions. In fact, Mr. Corcoran has been paid all of the commissions to which he is legally entitled.
“Most of the complaint consists of self-serving and fabricated allegations that are wholly unrelated to Mr. Corcoran’s claim for commissions and were plainly included in a calculated attempt to seek attention. Those allegations are wholly without merit, are grossly offensive and we will respond to them within the context of the litigation.”
