Neil Young considering performing lost ‘Cortez The Killer’ verses on Crazy Horse tour

Neil Young has revealed that he has uncovered the “lost verses” from the 1975 song ‘Cortez The Killer’, and that he’s considering playing them during his upcoming tour with Crazy Horse. READ MORE: Neil Young & Crazy Horse – ‘Barn’ review: rugged and rural beauty, with a sense of hope According to a Rolling Stone report, Neil Young recently hosted a Zoom session with a handful of fans who are subscribed to his official website. During this call, Young revealed that he had recently found “the other verses” from ‘Cortez The Killer’ that were either cut from the song, or lost due to technical difficulties while recording the track. He also teased performing them, though nothing is set in stone just yet: “Just a couple of days ago, I found the other verses. Just the lyrics… we may have those lost lyrics in the show, which will be fun for me.” Young also reflected on the lost verses, recalling that he and his band were recording “a good take” when the power went off and they lost a verse that had been recorded. Blur’s Damon Albarn on the Coachella audience: “They’re sort of on their own planet”

Blur‘s Damon Albarn has opened up about the audience and attendees at Coachella, saying that “they’re sort of on their own planet”. The legendary Britpop band – comprised of Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree – took to the annual music and arts festival’s main stage on Saturday night (April 13). In an interview with KROQ before their set, Albarn said: “I don’t know, it’s a weird one Coachella when it comes to audience you know. It’s hard to know sometimes because they’re quite sort of on their own planet really,” after being asked if he was surprised by how excited and crazy the fan reaction was to the band playing the festival. Toumani Diabaté & Ballaké Sissoko – New Ancient Strings (reissue, 1999)

In 1970, Sidiki Diabaté and Djelimady Sissoko recorded an album of instrumental kora duets called Cordes Anciennes (Ancient Strings). Although it was only released in France and Germany on a specialist ethno-musicological label, as western interest grew in ‘world music’, it came to be regarded as a landmark release – not least because it was the first ever recording devoted solely to the rippling, harp-like textures of the kora. DAVID BOWIE IS ON THE COVER OF THE LATEST UNCUT – ORDER YOUR COPY HERE More than a quarter of a century later, Lucy Duran, professor of music at the London School of Oriental and African Studies, persuaded Joe Boyd to commission a belated sequel for release on his Hannibal label. However, before Duran and her sound engineer Nick Parker reached the Malian capital Bamako in 1997, Sidiki died from a stroke while visiting relatives in Gambia. Waxahatchee – Tigers Blood

Over the past decade and a half, Katie Crutchfield has amassed a deep catalogue of quiet revelations, full-band exorcisms and adventurous collaborations, but it took until now for her to write her first love song. It’s called “Right Back To It”, and it’s the immediate standout of her grounded and radiant new album. “You just settle in/Like a song with no end,” she sings in close harmony with MJ Lenderman, the North Carolina songwriter and guitar of the alt.country band Wednesday, whose tender drawl seems to wrap its arms around Crutchfield’s distinctive, cawing voice. In the background, you hear the melodic pluck of a banjo and a slow-moving drumbeat, all propelling one of Crutchfield’s most satisfying, singalong choruses. It’s not just Waxahatchee’s first love song: it’s the first one you can imagine playing on pop radio. DAVID BOWIE IS ON THE COVER OF THE LATEST UNCUT – ORDER YOUR COPY HERE This gift for immediacy has always hidden in the subtext of Crutchfield’s music. On her early, home-recorded releases, the Birmingham, Alabama-born artist stood apart from fellow DIY songwriters with a peculiar gift for melody and lyrics that burrow deep under the skin (“I don’t believe that I care at… Read More →

J Balvin has brought out Will Smith for a cover of the Men In Black theme song during this year’s edition of Coachella. Lana Del Rey live at Coachella 2024: distinctive star stays true to herself

Before Coachella 2024 kicked off, Lana Del Rey appeared to hint that her headline moment was the crux of a narrative arc of redemption. On the side of the highway leading to the desert festival, she posted a billboard nodding to the 2012 SNL performance she was mercilessly crucified for. “Has anyone else died for you?” it pointedly asked, designed in a way that sent up the advertising hoardings that populate America’s Bible Belt. When she arrives on stage tonight (April 12) – making her grand entrance via a motorcade of motorbikes, riding through the crowd – it doesn’t feel like redemption. Del Rey has long proven what she’s really capable of, both on record and in her live performances that have seen her become a festival headliner around the world. Instead, her first time atop the Coachella bill feels reflective; a survey of all she’s done and created over the last 12 years. It begins by dialling things all the way back to 2012 and her debut album, ‘Born To Die’ – or, more specifically, one of its bonus tracks, ‘Without You’. It’s a surprising but beautiful opening, even if its “Hello hello, can, can you hear me?” line… Read More →

‘The Big Bang Theory’ fans want Micheal Keaton to play an older Sheldon

The Big Bang Theory fans want to see Micheal Keaton to play an older version of character Sheldon Cooper and now Jim Parsons has responded. The actor, who starred as the theoretical physicist on the long-running series and also serves as an executive producer and narrator for its spinoff Young Sheldon, responded to news of the fan-casting on The Tonight Show earlier this week (April 8). Host Jimmy Fallon brought up a side-by-side image of young Keaton and Iain Armitage, who plays young Sheldon in the show. “It is interesting. There’s definitely a resemblance,” Parsons agreed. “The one thing I will say is Michael Keaton — that really looks like Michael Keaton still, doesn’t it?” Advertisement When Fallon mooted the idea that fans wanted an ‘Older Sheldon spinoff “with the actual Michael Keaton playing Sheldon,” Parsons quickly shot down the idea. “Let me tell you this: I doubt that’s going to happen,” he said. “But I would be so excited to have Michael Keaton added to the lineage of Sheldon portrayers. I would be amazed.” Parsons went on to say he’s a huge fan of Keaton. “Oh, I’ve admired that man my entire life, starting with Mr. Mom,” he explained. “I… Read More →

On their debut album, Lola Amour hold space for joy and grief: “If you’re feeling sad, it’s also nice to dance it out”

“Lately, I think we’ve been listening to our intrusive thoughts way too often,” admits Lola Amour’s saxophonist Jeff Abueg. He’s referring to the “whack ideas” he and his bandmates indulged while slogging away at their anticipated debut LP – which has finally arrived, five years after its first projected release and following a pandemic, multiple changes in the band’s line-up, and a vault towards mainstream stardom with the viral hit ‘Raining In Manila’ (more on that later). Despite Abueg’s self-deprecating disclaimer, ‘Lola Amour’ shows the funk-pop seven-piece’s canny balancing of flamboyant creative decisions with digestible ones. They slashed a two-minute horn solo down to 45 seconds on ‘Namimiss Ko Na’ – the same track where they ditched a metal riff for a dancey disco tune, over verses that grieve a loved one’s bout with dementia. The experimentation and play continues throughout the record, which was released yesterday (April 10) on Warner Music Philippines. In ‘Umiinit’, frontman and rhythm guitarist Pio Dumayas spits cocksure bars between happy handclaps and falsetto-backed harmonies. He reprises the rapping in the much softer ‘If I Ever Come Back’, accompanied by the band’s version of a gospel choir – or “just five of us singing recorded… Read More →
