Introducing the new Uncut… and our Review Of 2025!

At time of writing, it’s late October and I’ve already heard what sound like two major contenders for our 2026 Albums Of The Year. That’s not meant to sound like a tease, by the way; I really wanted to illustrate how, as we come to reflect on the music released during the last 12 months, there’s plenty to be excited about just around the corner. Our 2025 New Albums poll, meanwhile, reveals much about the discoveries, returning heroes and reassuringly steady progress of many of our favourite artists. Back in January, who would have predicted that our top three New Albums Of The Year would all be by artists enjoying unexpected, but fruitful, second acts? Or how yet another new generation of Americana artists are making their own fresh currency out of deeply respected traditions? Advertisement I don’t want to give too much away, so I’d advise you to drop everything now and head to page 53, where our Review Of 2025 begins. There’s New Albums, Reissues, Compilations, Films, Music Documentaries and Books as well as some very special joint interviews. Please let us know what your favourite new albums of 2025 are and we’ll print a selection in Feedback…. Read More →

Ariana Grande suggests split from manager Scooter Braun has “healed” her relationship with music

Ariana Grande has opened up about her relationship with music and why she fallen in love with making music again. READ MORE: Ariana Grande – ‘Eternal Sunshine’ review: a compelling mood piece Grande, who in the past years has shifted her focus from her music career to acting, spoke to The New York Times for a feature published on Wednesday (November 5). Speaking to the publication, the ‘Thank U, Next’ singer spoke of the multiple projects she’s juggling. Advertisement Apart from promoting the upcoming Wicked sequel, Wicked: For Good, the multi-hyphenate has a number of other acting roles lined up, as well as a world tour in 2026. The tour seems to be the most daunting of her upcoming plans, as she hasn’t played many live shows since her 100-show ‘Sweetener’ tour in 2019 came to an end. Part of her aversion to touring – besides the gruelling task on being on the road constantly – comes from her relationship to music, which she said had taken a dip over the years. When asked by NYT what else she think needed mending in her pop career, Ariana Grande chuckled: “How much more time do we have?” Ariana Grande, 2025. CREDIT: Katia… Read More →

Paul McCartney once sent baby poo to lying music journalist after bad review: “It was the perfect response to a crude British pressman”

Paul McCartney once sent baby poo to a lying journalist to get back at him for writing a scathing review of Wings‘ live show. The anecdote was shared in the new book, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run – an oral history of the band McCartney went on to form with his then-wife Linda, following The Beatles splitting up. Advertisement Published yesterday (November 4), the book contains around 150 photographs, as well as diary entries and handwritten lyrics, and anecdotes from the likes of Stella McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, George Martin, Sean Ono Lennon, Chrissie Hynde, Dustin Hoffman, Twiggy, and all the members of Wings. In one of the anecdotes, drummer Denny Seiwell revealed how the band got their fair share of negative reviews over the years, including from a journalist who lied about watching one of their shows. Seiwell recalled how Wings were briefly joined on tour by a writer in the early ‘70s who claimed he wouldn’t be reviewing their show, but rather writing a story about how the members brought their families on tour. At that time, Paul and Linda had three children together: Heather, Mary and Stella. They would later… Read More →

Radiohead reviewed: stunning return for rock’s radical chiefs

Uncut attended the opening night of Radiohead’s first tour for seven years. A full report will appear in a future issue of the magazine – but in the meantime, here’s 10 things we learned from this 1. What next for Radiohead..? It has been 10 years since Radiohead’s last studio album A Moon Shaped Pool and seven years since they last performed together in public. With no new material to promote, the purpose behind this tour remains, at best, opaque. Advertisement What is clear is that in the intervening years since their last tour, the band members have each moved away from Radiohead – into different configurations, solo projects, film and theatre scores. Does this make it harder, then, for them to come together again? Might this be, God forbid, the opening night of a farewell tour? These ideas feed a faint sense of pathos into tonight’s show – which, as it happens, is one of the very finest Radiohead shows I’ve ever seen. 2. The merch is a clue The busy merchandise stands outside and inside the venue provide a big giveaway about the parameters of tour setlists. A much loved OK Computer song title embossed on a t-shirt?… Read More →

Radiohead’s 30 Greatest Songs

As Radiohead reunite for their first tour in seven years, it seems a fitting time to revisit the band’s 30 greatest songs – with help from their close collaborators, friends, famous fans, and even some of their biggest influences. Here, then, are their finest songs, presented chronologically, from the radio-friendly grunge of “Creep” to the more singular grooves found on 2016’s A Moon Shaped Pool. Along the way, you might learn a thing or two about Thom, Jonny, Ed, Colin and Phil – including their experimental studio practices, their debt to “In The Air Tonight”, and their changing post-gig celebrations: “Gentlemen, some sake…?” Advertisement 1 CREEP Single, 1992; Pablo Honey, 1993 [embedded content] MARK MULCAHY, MIRACLE LEGION: I first heard “Creep” on the radio, and it somehow felt different to me. Thom’s voice and that explosive guitar just really got me. So I went to track it down in this store in New Haven, bought a cassette of it and listened to it over and over. I looked at the credits and [producer] Paul Kolderie’s name was there, so I called him up – I was a real fan-geek. Sometimes everything meets, the singer and the song and the guitars… Read More →

Bonehead: “I’m still playing my original 1984 guitar on the Oasis 2025 tour”

Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has revealed that he has been using his guitar from 1984 on Oasis’ ‘Live ‘25’ tour dates. The model in question is the 1984 Epiphone Riviera, which he has used at nearly all his shows over the past three decades, from the early Oasis gigs at The Water Rats venue in London to the mammoth shows at Knebworth. Advertisement He also used the guitar for his sessions recording legendary Oasis albums ‘Definitely Maybe’ and ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’, as well as throughout all of the band’s tours in the ‘90s. Now, Bonehead has joined forces with Epiphone to share a run of replicas, and confirmed that he has been using the 1980s model for the ‘Live ‘25’ shows, which have seen Oasis perform their first tour dates since 2009. “Epiphone Rivieras have been with me from the early rehearsals at the Boardwalk in Manchester all the way up to those historic shows at Knebworth and on into Liam’s solo career,” the guitarist said. “I’m still playing my original 1984 guitar on the Oasis 2025 tour, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Speaking about the new run of guitars with Epiphone, he added: “I’m excited… Read More →

Bert Jansch interviewed: “I didn’t think in terms of career… I never have”

In this interview from Uncut Take 152 [January 2010 issue], Bert Jansch talks about his career as one of Britain’s greatest guitarists, folk, blues and being a “26-pints-a-night man” “Best blues in town” As the guitarist John Renbourn remembers it, he first read that there was an important new face on the capital’s folk music scene when he looked at the notice board of a record shop in London’s West End. Browsing in the folk department of Collet’s in New Oxford Street with the guitarist Wizz Jones, he looked up and read a terse, but emphatic announcement: “Bert Jansch,” it said. “Best blues in town.” Advertisement Interestingly, the note did not specify which town, an omission which with hindsight seems entirely sensible. Jansch, after all, has spent the best part of 45 years drawing his own map for music, never resting in the same place for long. He has travelled, of course, most notably around the world as part of Pentangle, the folk-rock supergroup that he helped form in 1968. Maybe more important, though, is the fact that Jansch remains on a creative journey that’s still productively continuing. “He was mysterious, and came off as quite heavy, and reclusive” But… Read More →

Lily Allen takes shot at David Harbour with ‘Madeline’ Halloween costume

Lily Allen has taken a shot at her ex-partner David Harbour by wearing a ‘Madeline’ costume for Halloween. The singer-songwriter released her first album in seven years, ‘West End Girl’, last week (October 24), and she has confirmed that her split from the Stranger Things star was a major source of inspiration for the songs on the record. Advertisement One song in particular has been identified as central to the theme of the break-up with Harbour – ‘Madeline’ sees her construct a fictional character who Allen implies had an affair with Harbour, and in the song, she reads out what appears to be a voice note from Madeline to the actor. “I can’t trust anything that comes out of your mouth / I’m not convinced that he didn’t fuck you in our house,” she sings. Now, Allen has taken another swipe at Harbour by dressing up as the children’s book character Madeleine, the young girl living at a Paris boarding school from the 1939 novel of the same name by Ludwig Bemelmans. Happy Halloween – here’s Lankum’s haunting cover of The Specials’ ‘Ghost Town’

Lankum have shared a haunting, creepy cover of The Specials’ 1981 classic ‘Ghost Town’ – check it out below. The track will be released as a standalone 12” single via Rough Trade Records on January 30, with an elaborate etching on the B-side. You can pre-order your single here. Advertisement The Dublin experimental folk band originally covered the song as a contribution to Oona Doherty’s dance show ‘Specky Clark’ at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre earlier this year, and they have now unveiled a video for the eight-minute track, shot in County Wicklow and directed by Leonn Ward. The single stays true to Lankum’s signature ‘folk drone’ style initially, with a crawling, insidious pace and discordant strings lending extra menace to the song’s legendary anti-Thatcherite lyrics, before it erupts into a cacophonous, electronic climax. Watch the video here: [embedded content] Lankum have said: “’Ghost Town’ came to us through some curious circumstances. Neil Young attacks Donald Trump and “looting oligarchs” Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk in new ‘As Time Explodes’ video

Neil Young has hit out at Donald Trump, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk in a new video. Titled ‘As Time Explodes’, the two-minute long clip was shared by the folk music icon on his YouTube channel last night (Thursday October 30). Advertisement In the footage, a variety of news clips are pieced together as a critique of both the Trump administration and the increasing power granted to tech billionaires. No lyrics are featured, and the instrumental track that plays over the top is a guitar-driven nod to his song ‘Be The Rain’, which he released with Crazy Horse in 2003. ‘As Time Explodes’ begins by showing media coverage of the demolition of the White House’s East Wing during the government shutdown. It then goes on to show a banner that reads “The 1% ruins the world”, before embedding a compilation of some of the highest profile billionaires in the world. Elon Musk is seen wielding a chainsaw, Trump is seen accepting a luxurious jet from Qatar, and Apple CEO Tim Cook is seen going to the White House. There is also a nod made to the extortionate cost behind Jeff Bezos’ wedding, which was held in Venice over… Read More →

Snocaps reviewed: meet Katie and Allison Crutchfield, MJ Lenderman and Brad Cook’s Americana supergroup

Snocaps are a new band, but not really. They’ve only been together a matter of months, and they’ve just surprise-released their debut, but the two mainstays – twins Allison and Katie Crutchfield – have been singing together for most of their lives. Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, they were active in the local DIY scene, forming their first band, The Ackleys, when they were in high school and only splitting up when the other members went off to college. They rechristened themselves P.S. Eliot in 2007, released two well-praised albums of earnest, anxious indie rock, then disbanded in 2011 when they simultaneously realised, with twin intuition, that they needed to go in different directions for a while. [embedded content] Allison quickly formed the scrappy indie-rock group Swearin’ and released an atmospheric, grief-addled solo album in 2017. Her sister Katie started releasing albums as Waxahatchee, her stormy guitar rock gradually transforming into musically graceful, emotionally thorny indie country. The sisters have performed together sporadically during the last 14 years, briefly reuniting PS Eliot in 2016 and performing a festival set in 2023 called “Katie And Allison Crutchfield Sing The Songs They Loved At 16”. They were bound to make music together… Read More →
