Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts – Talkin To The Trees

WHEN Neil Young cut short last summer’s tour with Crazy Horse – owing, it later transpired, to exhaustion – you could have been forgiven for thinking that one of music’s most restless and hyper-productive artists would finally be forced to slow down. As if. Just a few months later, Young unveiled the Chrome Hearts, a new band who perhaps coincidentally share the same initials as their illustrious forebears. Ostensibly pulled together to honour existing commitments at last autumn’s Farm Aid 2024 and Harvest Moon Gathering benefit, the Chrome Hearts have since become Young’s latest creative allies – rescuing him from a period of writer’s block to produce Talkin To The Trees and, soon, his first world tour for six years. Billy Joel attempted suicide twice after affair with his best friend’s wife

Billy Joel has revealed that he attempted to take his own life twice after having an affair with his best friend’s wife. I felt like a homewrecker. I was just in love with a woman, and I got punched in the nose, which I deserved. Jon was very upset. Watch Sabrina Carpenter hitchhike across the US in new video for “song of the summer” ‘Manchild’

Sabrina Carpenter has shared the ’70s-inspired music video for new single ‘Manchild’. Check it out below. The new track marks the first from the pop star in 2025, following on from her dominating the charts last year with singles including ‘Espresso’, ‘Please, Please, Please’ and ‘Taste’. Rock It From The Tombs

As Queens Of The Stone Age release a new stripped-down concert film, Josh Homme recounts his “near-life experience” in the Paris catacombs… “About 18 years ago, I was trying to go to the catacombs on a day off in Paris, and the line was three hours long. So the un-humble beginnings [of this performance] was like, ‘How do we cut this line?’ Perhaps the greatest gift of playing in a band is that it gives us access to such incredible locations and situations. But there’s something about it that transcends itself. On Horses, Patti Smith quotes an entire verse of “Land Of 1000 Dances”, and she was also somebody who’s aiming for this ritual hallelujah. Ethel Cain “hunted down” synthesisers from ‘Twin Peaks’ for sprawling new song ‘Nettles’

Ethel Cain has released the sprawling eight-minute single ‘Nettles’, which features synthesisers that she tracked down from a composer on Twin Peaks. ‘Nettles’ features on her upcoming second album, ‘Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You’, which she announced earlier this year. The forthcoming record will serve as a prequel to ‘Preacher’s Daughter’, and was preceded by this year’s ‘Perverts’ EP. Advertisement ‘Nettles’ is a banjo-led eight-minute epic that sees her chronicle “a dream of losing the one you love, asking them to reassure you that it won’t come true and to dream, instead, of all the time you’ll have together as you grow old side by side.” Listen to Ethel Cain’s ‘Nettles’ below. [embedded content] Besides laying down vocals and the banjo, Cain also plays synthesisers, piano, electric, acoustic and bass guitars on the track. The song is also a tip of the hat to late director David Lynch‘s beloved series Twin Peaks. On one of her art-focused accounts, Cain explained that bits of ‘Nettles’ was inspired by Twin Peaks, and that she hunted down the specific synthesisers that composer Angelo Badalamenti used to record the show’s classic theme song. The synthesisers are also seeming used elsewhere on the upcoming album…. Read More →

Sufjan Stevens – Carrie & Lowell (10th Anniversary Edition)

After 2010’s The Age Of Adz, on which Sufjan Stevens ditched his signature indie-folk banjo and recorders for glitchy beatscapes and experimental pop, Carrie & Lowell landed as a hushed and heartbreakingly raw excavation of the darkness that enveloped him following his mother Carrie’s death in 2012. Its songs, attempts to make sense of her troubled life and their relationship, are among the most forlorn in his catalogue. They’re also some of the loveliest. Billy Joel shares health update, insists: “I’m not dying”

Billy Joel has shared an update on his health, insisting that he is “not dying”. The singer-songwriter and pianist, 76, cancelled his entire touring plans last month, after being diagnosed with a brain disorder called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).
