With this second round, Latto is utterly compelling when she slows things down.” Speaking to NME previously, Latto also said she was moving in “my own lane”. “I… Read More →

Father John Misty – Chloë and the Next 20th Century

A lot needs to be unpacked whenever a new Father John Misty record arrives – that’s the case even when it’s one as good as Chloë And The Next 20th Century, an album of lovelorn orchestral melancholia spiced with the traditional dollop of cynicism. When Misty appeared on the scene with his 2012 debut Fear Fun – one of Uncut’s 300 best albums of the past 25 years – he felt intoxicatingly fresh. There were winding melodies, good looks, a great voice, witty lyrics and playful interviews where he carefully laid out the central conceit: Father John Misty as an exaggerated representation of Josh Tillman’s true self. But as his fame grew, things began to sour. His lyrics, occasionally tipping from incisive to cruel, were dissected, and Tillman would then bite back in interviews and on Twitter. The feedback loop did nobody any favours. ORDER NOW: Paul McCartney is on the cover in the latest issue of Uncut Somebody as culture-savvy as Tillman could sense the trap he was creating, so a few years ago he abandoned social media and stopped conducting extensive interviews, preferring to, as they say, let the music do the talking. But even then he’d still blur… Read More →

The Linda Lindas Are Growing Up And Making A Statement

By Joshua Miller Los Angeles-based The Linda Lindas are punk to the core. So when the Cypress Park branch of the Los Angeles Public Library asked the band if they wanted to perform there as part of their Asian American Pacific Islander heritage programming, it was an easy decision. They saw it as a fun way to raise awareness of racial issues (the band members are Asian American and/or Latinx) and promote equality, as well as a way to support one of their favorite libraries. “We immediately said yes because we love the library!” says 14-year-old bass player Eloise Wong. The band also features Wong’s cousins, sisters Mila de la Garza, 11, on the drums and Lucia de la Garza, 15, who plays guitar. 17-year-old family friend Bela Salazar also shreds on the guitar. On the cusp of releasing their debut album, Growing Up, they look back at the gig that made them a viral sensation. “We always check out a lot of books anyway,” says Lucia, “but during the pandemic, Eloise and I were reserving and picking up books stacks at a time.” During their performance, surrounded by some of these same novels, the band launched into a fiery… Read More →

R. Kelly loses bid to delay sex trafficking sentencing by months

R. Kelly has had a bid to delay sentencing for his sex trafficking and racketeering convictions rejected by a court in Brooklyn this week (April 5). The singer stood trial last September for racketeering, bribery and violating the Mann Act, which criminalises the transportation of any woman or girl across state lines for “immoral” purposes, such as illegal sexual activity. Kelly was found guilty of all the charges against him and was jailed ahead of formal sentencing on May 4, 2022. Kelly wanted a delay to the sentencing in the case until after an upcoming Chicago trial on separate changes for child pornography and obstructed justice. His lawyers argued in court that the date should be pushed back because statements in that hearing “might be used against him” when proceedings begin on August 1 (via Billboard). Cardi B granted permanent injunction over blogger’s “false and defamatory” statements

Cardi B has been victorious in court once more, when on Monday (April 4), a judge ordered YouTuber Tasha K to take down over a dozen videos and social media posts deemed “false and defamatory” by a jury verdict in January. A filing received by the court last Thursday (March 31) claimed the recent $4million defamation verdict against the host of UnWineWithTashaK required an additional court order, one that would force the removal of any remaining defamatory statements from her social media and prevent her from “repeating and republishing” her “patently false” statements.
