Rolo Tomassi: “There are far wider parameters to modern metal”

Rolo Tomassi have spoken to NME about their evolution and journey to new album ‘Where Myth Becomes Memory’, as well as releasing it at a time where metal music has “far wider parameters”. Yesterday, (February 4), the Sheffield-founded post-hardcore band released their sixth album ‘Where Myth Becomes Memory’. Vocalist Eva Korman and keyboardist James Spence have spoken to NME about why it’s deliberately more positive than anything they’ve done before. Formed in 2005 by siblings Eva Korman and James Spence, the band have proven an acclaimed force in British metal – if one of the most arguably under-sung. From snarling 2008 debut ‘Hysterics’ to the Diplo-produced, Biffy Clyro-esque second album ‘Cosmology’ and the emotional heft of 2015’s ‘Grievances’ through to 2018’s beautifully heavy ‘Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It’, they’ve shown themselves as constantly progressive. However this time, Spence tells NME that “album six is where we’ve hit our stride”. Advertisement The band came up around the same time as metal icons Bring Me The Horizon and Architects. While those two bands have gone on to sell out arenas and headline festivals, Rolo Tomassi take pride in having chosen “a different path,” said Spence. “Even when those groups were… Read More →

Name dispute between singer Lady A and band formerly known as Lady Antebellum settled out of court

The legal dispute between singer Anita White (aka Lady A) and the band formerly known as Lady Antebellum has reportedly been settled out of court. In June 2020, the country band who had performed as Lady Antebellum for 14 years, announced they were changing their name to Lady A due to the negative racial connotations associated with the term “antebellum”. It soon emerged after that White, a Black blues and soul singer, had been using the same stage name for more than 20 years. After attempts to persuade White to allow the band to share the name ‘Lady A’ were unsuccessful, the band sued the singer in July, asking the court “to affirm [their] right to continue to use the name Lady A.” Advertisement At the time, they alleged that White had demanded $10million in order to use the name, and also claimed they had had the name trademarked “for years”. White later confirmed she had asked for the sum from the band and had planned to split it – $5million for her own compensation, and $5million donated to relevant causes. White countersued the band in September 2020, citing “lost sales” and “diminished brand identity” since the trio began using… Read More →
