Baby Keem has some of the funniest bars in the game. However, they might need to be heard in their intended context in order to be properly appreciated. Fans tweeting out one particular line from Keem's biggest song, "Orange Soda" (off his debut album), is causing them to get suspended from the social media platform.
People have reported that quoting "When you come see the crib, you better die, hoe" could result in an enforced time-out from Twitter. While this bar could be confusing to decipher on its own, you could make more sense of it after learning of the one that precedes it. The Nevada rapper first asserts, "I hate a bitch that I can't impress." For this reason, when a woman is welcomed into his immaculate abode, Keem expects a stunned reaction.
It's a pretty hilarious lyric, but Twitter is overlooking the hyperbolic humor in it and interpreting it as a threat. This may be because it's an algorithm detecting an issue in the phrase "you better die, hoe." One suspended fan, named Colin, lamented to Complex that this algorithm “doesn’t use any type of context or any sort of ‘plagiarism check’ to see if they’re lyrics, quotes, etc.”
Baby Keem himself caught wind of this restraint on his fans' freedom of expression and tweeted, “So like... if you quote Baby Keem lyrics they put you in twitter jail? Free my dawgs.”
Look below to see some of the people reporting their suspensions, which appear to be spanning between 12-24 hours.
Kendrick Lamar & Baby Keem Spotted At Supreme Store In LA
Dave Free was also with them to promote their mysterious pgLang company.
Hours after announcing the mysterious media company, pgLang, Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem decided to hit up the Supreme store in Los Angeles to celebrate. On Thursday, K. Dot, Keem and Dave Free were all spotted by fans at the hypebeast shop in LA, dapping up fans and promoting their new visual project. Several fans were seen taking pics with K. Dot, who was trying to stay low key behind a black ski cap and hoody. You can see the clip that’s surfaced online (below).
Kendrick’s new company was first announced on Instagram Thursday night when he shared three new posts featuring the company’s logos with the caption “pg-lang.com.” Upon visiting the website, we learn that pgLang is an “at service company,” specializing in music, film, television, art, books, and podcasts. Their mission is to deliver “stories that speak to many nations, many races, and many ages,” the website reveals, going on to add that pgLang’s writers, singers, directors, musicians, and producers break formats when building ideas to make them real.
“We embrace the idea of anarchy and challenges that make us stronger,” the statement continues. “pgLang is focused on using our experiences, and nurturing our many collaborators, to build stories that are equally accessible and engaging then fitting them within the best media.”
Ultimately, the launch of the new company has prompted rumors that the long-awaited follow-up to DAMN. is finally on the way. Earlier this year, rumors that it was finally completed, before K. Dot recently cleared his IG page, making fans believe that an album is indeed on the way.
We’ll keep you posted on this mysterious project and the rumored album from K. dot moving forward.
Kendrick Lamar Prompts Album Speculation After The Launch Of "pgLang"
Kendrick Lamar announces his new media company with Dave Free geared towards creatives with Jorja Smith, Baby Keem, and Yara Shahidi starring in the visual mission statement.
Kendrick Lamar is making major plays as fans await his next album. At first, the Compton rapper cleared his Instagram page prompting speculation his new album was on the way before announcing his media company, pgLang. Sharing a visual mission statement on the company's website, Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem, Jorja Smith, and Yara Shahidi make appearances in the project.
"Our community speaks different language," a statement on the website reads. "Our community speaks music, film, television, art, books, and podcasts -- because sometimes we have to use different languages to get the point of our stories across."
This shouldn't come as a shock since Top Dawg previously revealed in a profile piece with Billboard that Kendrick not only has a percentage of the label but he's also been working heavily on the upcoming television and film stuff that TDE was working on. It's unclear if pgLang is actually associated with TDE in any way.
The venture is partnership between Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free who have been showing their cinematic chops off under Dave Free and the Little Homies. Dave Free recently departed from his position at Top Dawg Entertainment in October 2019 but clearly, there were bigger things in mind.
Ultimately, the launch of the new company has prompted rumors that the long-awaited follow-up to DAMN. is finally on the way. Earlier this year, rumors that it was finally completed.
The Freshman 2020 List May Have Just Leaked
Could this be legit?
With the arrival of the new year, the 2020 XXL Freshman List should be arriving shortly, but it's possible that the freshmen picks have already been revealed the public. OnSmash reported that a Twitter user posted a photo of what has been made to appear like the final draft of the XXL Freshman 2020 list. A photo of a computer screen shows the names of the artists that have been supposedly chosen, with the word "CONFIDENTIAL" in red. The alleged photo also reveals the slotted publication date for the issue: March 5th, 2020.
The rumoured artists are listed as follows:
-Doja Cat
-Don Toliver
-Young Roc
-Pardison Fontaine
-NLE Choppa
-Polo G
-Baby Keem
-Jack Harlow
-BigKlit
-Benny the Butcher
-Bbymutha
-Pop Smoke
Of course, it's totally possible that this list is a fabrication, but the names they've come up with don't entirely come out of nowhere. Plenty of these artists are steadily on the rise, and many of them are predicted to have a solid breakout year in 2020 if they play their cards right. While inclusion on this list does not always guarantee major success for an artist in the following year, many of the designated freshmen from last year's list certainly had a successful 2019, such as Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, Roddy Rich, Rico Nasty, and more.
Fake or not, do you agree with this list?
