Cardi B and the DJ behind the viral "Coronavirus" remix, iMarkkeyz, are planning to donate the proceeds from the hit single to food banks and shelters that are in the midst of assisting thousands of people affected by the global pandemic. Like many folks around the world, Cardi B has been panicking a little about the coronavirus pandemic, and the ever-outspoken star has, of course, been very vocal about her fears.
So much so, that some soundbites from one of the many instances in which she spoke out about the spread of COVID-19 was even turned into a song, after DJ iMarkkeyz remixed it. The track, appropriately titled "Coronavirus," has been rapidly climbing the iTunes since it dropped earlier this week, and has even gone viral on TikTok. Many, including Cardi, took notice of its growing success, and one fan in particular asked how she and iMarkkeyz are planning to spend the royalties they will earn from "Coronavirus."
"Yo if y’all are getting royalties off of this @iamcardib @iMarkkeyz maybe u could consider donating a part of it to food banks or shelters that are probably flooded with new people needing help?" asked the fan. "Just a thought. This sh*t is scary." iMarkkeyz responded to the request, confirming that "that was my goal," and Cardi also hopped on board.
"YES !THATS WHAT WE GOING TO DO !" she tweeted. "Keep in mind you don’t get your money right away ...but even months from now there would be families with financial issues for getting laid off due to the virus .We will Donate !" Cardi also responded to speculation about whether she was going to be officially credited on the track, considering it uses her voice. She explained that while she is automatically included in the song's internal credits, adding her name as one of the primary artists may require the song to be removed first. However, her team is working on it.
Zion Williamson Offers To Pay Pelicans’ Workers Salaries During NBA Suspension
Zion a real one.
In response to the coronavirus shutting down the NBA season for now, Zion Williamson announced last night that he'll cover the salaries of all Smoothie King Center workers for the next 30 days.
Taking to Instagram, Zion wrote: ”The people of New Orleans have been incredibly welcoming and supportive since I was Drafted by the Pels last June, and some of the most special people I have met are those who work at smoothie King Center," Williamson wrote. "These are the folks who make our games possible, creating the perfect environment for our fans and everyone involved in the organization. Unfortunately, many of them are still recovering from long term challenges created by Katrina, and now face the economic impact of the postponement of games because of the virus.”
Williamson said the donation was inspired by his mother, and is a small way to express his support and appreciation for their hard work.
“My mother has always set an example for me about being respectful for others and being grateful for what we have, and so today I am pledging to cover the salaries for all of those Smoothie King Center workers for the next 30 days. This is a small way for me to express my support and appreciation for these wonderful people who have been so great to me and my teammates and hopefully we can all join together to relieve some of the stress and hardship caused by this national health crisis,” he wrote.
The Pelicans responded to Williamson's actions, tweeting out:
In addition to Zion, Giannis Antetekounmpo is also giving back to his Milwaukee family. He tweeted out that he and his family will donate $100,000 to those who work at Fiserv Forum, while Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love said on Instagram he was doing the same for those who work at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Tons of EDM’s DJs Are Raising Money for Australia’s Fires In Their Own Ways
It’s heartbreaking to see what’s happening in Australia right now with the bushfires — and DJs across the world are stepping up to help.
Steve Aoki, David Guetta, Don Diablo, Alison Wonderland, Svdden Death and many more are using their platforms to raise awareness and encourage donations for the national emergency. Some have raised money through shows and merchandise sales, or straight up donations, while others have called on fans to help out — no amount is too great or small.
Showtek lay it all out in their post below:
It’s unbelievable to see what this planet is turning into. The climate crisis is no joke but we all seem to look the other way when it comes to making real changes. We need to change the way we live and eat to make sure we can save this planet so animals and people don’t have to suffer like this. Make a difference yourself because no one will do it for you! Please donate anything you can to help!
Hundreds of homes have been destroyed, at least 20 people have died, and half a billion animals have been lost due to the raging bushfires in Australia. Devastating images have surfaced of burnt wildlife and blood red skies, adding sense of urgency to the ongoing climate crisis.
