‘Nobody But You’ features an acoustic back-and-forth between Smith and Faiyaz poring over an emotional break-up. “Don’t want to fight anymore,” Smith sings. “Daytimes are silent as hell/ I wish that I could ignore all that you said.”

The single follows Faiyaz’s recent single ‘Show U Off’, his Fuck The World EP release back in February, as well as his Tyler, The Creator link-up ‘Gravity’ from earlier in the year.

Jorja Smith’s first solo release of 2021 arrived in January with ‘Addicted’. The singer also unveiled the video for ‘Addicted’, which she directed alongside Savanah Leaf. The clip was shot entirely on webcam, and sees Smith on horseback on the beach, dancing under fireworks and more.

In a press statement, Smith said ‘Addicted’ is about “focusing on wanting the full attention of someone who’s not giving enough (or any) when they should be”.

In an interview with NME in February, Faiyaz revealed the title of his second album, and what fans can expect from it.

“Around the time I was working on ‘Fuck The World’, I was travelling everywhere, just wiling out, living out of a suitcase,” he explained. “The entire process of working on that record, I was on bullshit.

“But now, I’m a homeowner and shit. I got a dog and am trying to elevate. I’m working out, eating healthier, reading books. Making ‘Make it Out Alive’ is going to be a reflection of all of that.”

Summer Walker & Brent Faiyaz Satisfy Our "R&B Season" Needs With New Releases

Ease into our R&B-centric Spotify playlist.

A few months back, we started our R&B-centric Spotify playlist, “R&B Season”. HNHH curates a bunch of playlists on various streaming platforms, but they are predominantly focused on hip hop. While it may appear that our expertise lies in hip hop, we are great admirers of R&B. As the border between these two genres becomes increasingly porous, it’s hard to be a fan of one without being a fan of the other. However, the distinction remains important when deciding what vibe you’re going for when you turn to your preferred medium of music consumption. R&B tends to be catered for your more mellow moments and there should be a place for you to comfortably retreat into to enjoy those sounds. That’s why we’ve been putting love and care into building up our “R&B Season” playlist.

Our job was made easy this week because a lot of stellar R&B artists came through with new tunes for us to add onto our playlist. Brent Faiyaz returned with F**k The World, his first LP since 2017’s Sonder Son. His velvety vocals match the vibe of our “R&B SEASON” so well that we couldn’t help but selecting two cuts from his new record: “Bluffin” and “Been Away”. Once you hear these, you’ll definitely feel compelled to check out the rest of F**k The World

Although Summer Walker dropped her debut album, Over It, not too long ago and provided us with eighteen silky tracks to keep in rotation, she’s keeping the music coming. Probably because people can’t get enough of her. Her buzz is evidenced by the fact that she was recruited to contribute an original song to the soundtrack for the new Harley Quinn movie, Birds Of Prey. Summer’s rendition of Barry White’s “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More” shows her singing over jazzier production than ever before and it makes for a lovely fit.

Listen and subscribe to our playlist below to stay in the loop.

Listen to Tylan’s “Won’t Get It…” The Lead Single from His Upcoming EP ‘IDKFR’

Emerging R&B artist Tylan delivers a striking emotional depth with his latest single, “Won’t Get It…,” a track that dives into themes of trust, personal growth, and the complexity of human relationships. Hailing from Washington, D.C., Tylan has developed a sound rooted in the rich musical heritage of his city, blending influences from icons like Usher, Brent Faiyaz, and Drake with his own unique approach to storytelling. This latest release offers a powerful glimpse into the personal reflections that have shaped his artistic journey.

“Won’t Get It…” is the lead single from Tylan’s upcoming EP IDKFR, marking a significant step in his evolution as an artist. The song is a deeply introspective look at the struggles of navigating relationships and the challenges of staying authentic in a world that often demands compromise. With raw, reflective lyrics, Tylan shows a vulnerability that sets him apart in today’s R&B landscape. The track’s standout line, “Some might do drugs, some might do clubs, mistreating love, but I can’t judge,” highlights his empathy and understanding, offering a message that resonates with listeners who have faced similar internal battles.

Musically, “Won’t Get It…” weaves soulful melodies with a laid-back R&B groove that feels both timeless and contemporary. The track’s minimalist production allows Tylan’s voice to take center stage, showcasing his ability to convey deep emotion through his vocal delivery. His smooth, yet emotionally charged performance creates a balance between strength and vulnerability, further solidifying his position as a compelling new voice in the genre.

The lyrics reflect an artist who is not only coming into his own but also keenly aware of the pressures that come with both life and love. Tylan’s ability to express personal struggles while inviting the listener to reflect on their own experiences makes “Won’t Get It…” particularly impactful. His candidness, captured in lines like “Lord knows I try. I had to wipe my own eyes,” underscores his growth, not just as an artist, but as a person learning to navigate the world with integrity and self-awareness.

Tylan’s musical influences are evident, but his sound is distinctly his own. The influence of Usher, Brent Faiyaz, and Drake comes through in his seamless blend of contemporary R&B with introspective, emotional storytelling. Yet, his deep connection to Washington, D.C.’s artistic legacy—particularly through his great-grandmother, blues icon Mary Jefferson—gives his music an extra layer of depth that sets him apart from his peers.

As Tylan builds anticipation for IDKFR, “Won’t Get It…” is a strong indication of what’s to come. His forthcoming single “Baddies” promises a different energy, showcasing his versatility, but it’s “Won’t Get It…” that cements Tylan as an artist to watch. With its soulful melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, the track offers an authentic and relatable look into the complexities of relationships, leaving listeners eager to see what Tylan will bring next.

Man arrested for making bomb threat in attempt to skip line at Doja Cat concert

A man was arrested for making a bomb threat outside a concert being headlined by Doja Cat in Indianapolis yesterday (January 8).

The pop star topped the bill at a free AT&T’s Playoff Playlist Live gig held at the city’s Monument Circle venue, which also saw the likes of AJR and Pink Sweat$ perform.

The Indianapolis Star reports that an unnamed man was arrested and the crowd cleared for around 20 minutes before the gates opened because of the bomb threat. The man reportedly told people stood near him in the line that he had a bomb in his bag in a bid to skip the queue.

Deputy Chief Joshua Barker said the fan had “exercised very poor judgement”, but “someone did the right thing and alerted IMPD [the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department]”. When he was searched, his backpack was found to be “clean”.

In a statement posted to social media, IMPD added that the man had “unrelated outstanding warrants and was immediately arrested for those”. At the time the statement was issued, he was still in police custody.

The authorities added: “Police believe there is no active threat and the investigation is ongoing.”

The show went on as planned with Doja Cat performing hits from her debut album ‘Hot Pink’ and last year’s ‘Planet Her’.

Meanwhile, Doja Cat is reportedly among the artists in talks to contribute to the Black Panther 2 soundtrack. An industry insider recently claimed that other acts like Giveon, Brent Faiyaz, Stormzy, The Weeknd and Solange had also been contacted.

Doja Cat has also shared some ideas for a future project, telling fans she wants to make a double album with one side focused strictly on hip-hop. She added that she’d want the hip-hop side of the record to include songs produced by Jay Versace and 9th Wonder.

Bop Shop: Songs From Snail Mail, Wonho, Tems, And More

The search for the ever-elusive "bop" is difficult. Playlists and streaming-service recommendations can only do so much. They often leave a lingering question: Are these songs really good, or are they just new?

Enter Bop Shop, a hand-picked selection of songs from the MTV News team. This weekly collection doesn't discriminate by genre and can include anything — it's a snapshot of what's on our minds and what sounds good. We'll keep it fresh with the latest music, but expect a few oldies (but goodies) every once in a while, too. Get ready: The Bop Shop is now open for business.

  • Snail Mail: "Valentine"

The power of Lindsey Jordan's Snail Mail project has always resided in her voice — specifically in how she boosts it on just the right syllables for maximum impact. On "Valentine," the title track to her sophomore LP out November 5, it comes down like a hammer on the first chorus. "So why'd you wanna erase me!?" she exclaims as the guitars finally hit after a minute of synthy, sensual mood-setting. The song comes complete with an awesomely melodramatic, period-set music video that ends in enough cartoonish bloodshed to match the song's deep pangs of sorrow and heartache. Only five more months until Valentine's Day! —Patrick Hosken

  • Wonho: “Blue”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU7yBv3tkwA

If anyone can get a K-pop stan to even remotely care about sports, it’s Wonho in a football uniform. His new single “Blue,” the title track of his sophomore mini-album Blue Letter, displays the soloist in a completely new light, both sonically and visually. As the start of his new era, “Blue” explores happier, more optimistic themes compared to the darker concepts he explored in his past few releases. “We are young, we are dumb, we’ll just party all night long,” he sings, representing an extremely different state of mind. Accompanied by a lighthearted, campy, sports-themed music video, Wonho turns over a new leaf and enters this comeback with joy, spirit, and confidence. —Sarina Bhutani

  • Vince Staples: "Are You With That?”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0E0eQ_hH7k

Vince Staples has always plainly been a Black man from Compton, a rapper who speaks to the darker sides of the things you see when upward mobility isn’t nearly as abundant as the looming threat of violence and death. It can be commonplace in rap to glorify street life and its hard-won badges of strength. But Vince Staples, his fourth album, drawls and slumps with resignation. On the swirling opener “Are You With That?” he is consumed with, and depressed by, the draining premise of his own survival. He visits the graveyards of his lost friends, recalling how he aimed to follow their footsteps, growing up wanting to be a thug far more than a famous artist. He acknowledges the probability of his own death, envisioning his friends treating his candlelight vigil like a wild club night. “Hope you watchin’ your back,” the song chants, delivered more like a sad mantra than a sharp warning. None of this is exalted; it doesn’t reach for any particular fear, or joy, or remorse. For him, and for so many others, it’s simply the way things are. —Terron Moore

  • Cold War Kids: “Always”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m9DIeV1Oec

A deceptively upbeat offering from Cold War Kids, “Always” thrums with an undercurrent of nervous energy, mirroring the anxiety many of us are now navigating as the world reopens post-vaccine. “My expectations have expanded uncontrollably / You are the one that puts my feet down in reality,” lead singer Nathan Willett intones over lilting keys. It’s less an ode to a supportive partner and more a reminder directed inward. After all, leaning on each other during these unprecedented times is “what we do we get by.” —Sam Manzella

  • Tems ft. Brent Faiyaz: "Found"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5Yec96tfQM

Nigerian songwriter/producer Tems is having a great September. Fresh off the stunning Drake collab "Fountains," she released her second EP, If Orange Was a Place, earlier this week, complete with the dreamy "Found." Grounded by a gracefully plucked nylon-string guitar, the song is essentially a duet with Brent Faiyaz, but Tems haunts the entire runtime, even when she's not actively singing. When she is, the alchemy is palpable. It's just enough to make you swoon. —Patrick Hosken

  • Dexter: “I Like Me”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijAbzzDUZak

London-based singer-songwriter Dexter offers up a groovy slice of self-empowerment without the saccharine on “I Like Me.” Armed with two chords, the truth, and a voice that feels approachable yet entirely authoritative, she examines the rules of femininity and the places she feels she falls short. “What if I was girly and my hips were really curvy / And I walked around and strutted in the place?” she wonders, before resolving that, “It doesn’t matter because I like me anyway.” It’s a refreshing take on self worth and acceptance, acknowledging the what ifs that plague us while settling on authenticity over a smooth beat. —Carson Mlnarik

  • Matt Copley & No Resolve: “The Greatest Show”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLPhqdODPyM

Broadway buffs and emo kids alike will dig this new track from composer, vocalist, and Unwell frontman Matt Copley backed by No Resolve. “The Greatest Show” is a cover from the 2017 movie musical The Greatest Showman with a surprising pop-punk twist. Copley’s creative arrangements paired with his undeniable charisma and stage presence make his latest album Broadway Does Punk (and all of his projects, frankly) impossible to ignore. But you don’t have to take my word for it — millions on TikTok and Instagram have already cosigned. —Farah Zermane

  • Yard Act: "The Overload"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ2ANR_vF2E

If you simply can't get enough wiggly, fidgety, British post-punk in the vein of Dry Cleaning and Black Midi, you're gonna want to know Yard Act. You're gonna want to embrace the pure Jarvis Cocker energy frontman James Smith deploys on "The Overload," the title track to their upcoming new album to be released by Island Records. And you're gonna want to play it again and again and get lost in its spinning, frantic carnival. —Patrick Hosken

Drake Will (Finally) Be Your Certified Lover Boy On September 3

After multiple delays, Drake confirmed on Monday (August 30) that he will finally be dropping his new studio album, Certified Lover Boy, this Friday. Get ready.

On Instagram, Drake posted an image of multiple pregnant-mother emojis in various skin tones and shirt colors. The image is set to be the official album cover, and he captioned the post, in all caps, “Certified Lover Boy September 3.”

Last week, a cryptic video clip that teased the release date for the highly anticipated album was aired by SportsCenter on ESPN. The clip showed some sports highlights and then was interrupted by glitching footage and warped audio of someone holding a sign that read, “CLB September 3.”

In a response to the so-called interruption, SportsCenter tweeted: “We want to apologize for any interruptions viewers might have experienced during SportsCenter this morning. We had some technical difficulties that have since been resolved.”

Drake teases potential ‘Certified Lover Boy’ release update

Drake has teased a potential release update for his much anticipated new album ‘Certified Lover Boy’.

  • READ MORE: Drake: every single album and mixtape ranked and rated

The album, which was originally set for a January 2021 release date before being postponed after the Toronto rapper injured his knee, was said to be “in the pot and coming soon” back in March.

Then in June, during an interview with battle rap league URLTV at their NOMEXI event, Drake said the album would be out before the end of summer.

Pushed on a specific date for the release, he refused to confirm when the album would arrive, but when a guest mentioned the end of the summer, he said: “Oh yeah, I’ll be there. My album will be out by then.”

Now, the rapper, who was recently honoured with the prestigious award for Artist Of The Decade at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, may have dropped a new clue about the album’s release with a change to one of his social media account bios on Tuesday (July 6).

Drake switched up his Instagram bio to “Certified”, which has led some fans to speculate that the change signals the imminent release of ‘Certified Lover Boy’. He also changed his profile picture to his son Adonis holding one of his Billboard Music Award trophies.

“@Drake messed with his @instagram bio notifying us certified lover boy incoming…” one Twitter user wrote, while another said: “It took drake a year and half to complete the ‘certified’ part… I don’t even wanna know how long “lover boy” finna take ..”

Last week, Brent Faiyaz released a new single titled ‘Wasting Time’, which features a verse by Drake and production by The Neptunes, aka Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo.

Faiyaz is currently working on his second album ‘Make It Out Alive’, following 2020’s ‘Fuck The World’. Within the past few months, he’s unveiled a collaborative single with Tyler, The Creator, and a Jorja Smith-featured single under Sonder, his project with producers Atu and Dapat.

Faiyaz recently told NME that he’s approaching his new album with a vastly different mindset compared to past works. “Around the time I was working on ‘Fuck The World’, I was travelling everywhere, just wiling out, living out of a suitcase,” he said.

“The entire process of working on that record, I was on bullshit. But now, I’m a homeowner and shit. I got a dog and am trying to elevate. I’m working out, eating healthier, reading books. Making ‘Make it Out Alive’ is going to be a reflection of all of that.”

Tyler, The Creator claims A$AP Rocky ignored request to be on his new album

Tyler, The Creator has claimed that A$AP Rocky ignored his request to be on his new album ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’.

  • READ MORE: Tyler, The Creator – ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ review: a love letter to the genre that made him

The rapper’s sixth studio album, which is hosted by DJ Drama, arrived last month (June 25) and features guest spots from Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, Pharrell, Brent Faiyaz, Ty Dolla $ign and more.

However, one name fans were surprised not to see on the tracklist was Tyler’s longtime friend A$AP Rocky. The pair last collaborated on 2018’s ‘Potato Salad’, in the video for which they teased a potential joint project called ‘WANG$AP’ – though it was never confirmed by either artist.

During one of Tyler’s recent pop-up shows to support the release of ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’, the Odd Future rapper revealed that one of the tracks on the album, ‘Corso’, was made with Rocky in mind, but he claimed that the ‘Praise The Lord’ rapper failed to come back to him when he reached out to get him on the record.

“I made that beat for me and Rocky shit, but that n***a ignored me for five months,” Tyler said, addressing the crowd.

“So the middle part where DJ Drama is yelling and I’m not rapping, that was for Rocky, but the n***a…,” Tyler added before throwing his arms in the air. You can see a clip from the show below.

In a four-star review of ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’, NME‘s Luke Morgan Britton wrote: “The record stands as an all-encompassing culmination of Tyler’s ever-varying sound, showing that growth isn’t always linear and that artists can be a multitude of things.

“On ‘Call Me…’, Tyler cements his place as a generational talent, one in fine form and continuing to push the boundaries of his vision and kaleidoscopic sound.”

The album topped the Billboard 200 Album Chart, shifting the equivalent of 169,000 album units in the US in the week ending July 1, based on album sales, track and streaming figures.

Tyler, The Creator has opened up on why rap music will always be his first love, despite broadening the horizons of his sound in recent years.

Speaking at the BET Awards on Sunday (June 27), Tyler said the genre will always remain his first love – even if 2019’s ‘Igor‘ saw him experimenting with funk.

“I just love rap so goddamn much … listening to [2005’s] ‘The Dedication’ with Lil Wayne, and ‘We Got It For Cheap’ with Clipse, they really shaped me into who I am,” said Tyler.

“I think a lot of people forget that I’m a rapper because I’m so multifaceted. I just had to remind everyone, ‘Don’t let the wig get it twisted, y’all n***as can’t fuck with me.'”

The BETs also saw Tyler performing his recently released track ‘Lumberjack’.  The performance saw him step out of a Rolls Royce and battle a vicious wind storm while rapping.

‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ is the follow-up to Tyler, The Creator’s 2019 album ‘IGOR’. The 16-track record included guest appearances from Pharrell and Lil Uzi Vert (both on ‘Juggernaut’), Lil Wayne (‘Hot Wind Blows’), Ty Dolla $ign (‘Wusyaname’), Domo Genesis (‘Manifesto’) and more.

In the lead-up to the album’s release, new billboards featuring the words “Call Me If You Get Lost” and a phone number began appearing in various locations, prompting fan speculation that the rapper was about to kick off his new album rollout. Then, a promo video titled SIDE STREET was shared, which also featured the “Call Me If You Get Lost” tagline.

In addition to the album, Tyler, the Creator released a new song titled ‘Tell Me How’ in March, after it was featured in an advertisement for Coca-Cola the previous month. Earlier in the year, he featured on the Brent Faiyaz track ‘Gravity’.

Album track ‘Manifesto’ also sees him apologise to Selena Gomez for a series of controversial tweets he made about the singer 10 years ago.

I was a teener, tweetin’ Selena crazy shit. Didn’t wanna offend her, apologise when I seen her. Back when I was tryna fuck Bieber, Just-in,” he raps on the new track.

In a four-star review of the concert, NME‘s Rhian Daly said that Rosé’s live performance of the B-side track was a “simple but addictive piece of guitar pop, and one that showcases Rosé’s direct, raw vocals”. See a snippet of ‘Gone’ below:

Rosé is the second BLACKPINK member to embark on a solo career after Jennie, who released her chart-smashing hit ‘Solo’ in 2018. In January, the latter became the first K-pop female artist to earn 600million views on YouTube.

In other milestone news, BLACKPINK’s video for ‘Ddu-du Ddu-du’ crossed 1.5billion views at the end of February. The group were also recently named as advocates for UN climate change conference.

Cardi B shares snippet of new song and vows to go “full album mode”

Cardi B has continued to tease new music on Twitter after fans demanded the release of her second album.

The singer took the briefest of breaks from the site on Friday (March 5), after being bombarded with questions about the record when she revealed she is releasing her own doll.

“I have so much pressure. I’m working on a lot of sh– to please people. … I wanna please my fans, because y’all been asking for something from me for a very long time that I can’t say, and I’m doing it for ya,” Cardi said during an Instagram Live.

“‘Eh, you’re dropping a fucking doll! We want an album!’ How am I supposed to be rich? How am I supposed to build my net worth?”

But upon returning, the rapper tweeted a short audio snippet of a new song in which she seems to be rapping: “I need more money than problems this year.”

Further updates came when she gave her followers a brief update on her upcoming plans.

“After next week I’m going full album mode,” Cardi tweeted along with another clip – a throwback of her recording ‘Red Barz’.

“I was hungry around this time. Perfecting & writing my shit,” she said.

“Im going to complete some business do things for ‘UP’ then I’m out !but please let’s stay on topic & not ask me about things when ya know I don’t like talkin bout my moves.”

Cardi’s debut album came in 2018’s ‘Invasion Of Privacy‘, but she is yet to release its follow-up.

She also recently told fans she would like to collaborate on a song with Lizzo but also asked her followers to “stop pressuring” her to make music.

Taylor Swift cancels all tour dates: “This is an unprecedented pandemic”

Taylor Swift has cancelled all forthcoming tour dates, citing the “unprecedented pandemic” as her reason in a tweet on Friday (February 26).

Swift had had a small run of shows scheduled in support of her 2019 album ‘Lover’, which were postponed in April of last year due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

The tour was set to include dates for her own Lover Fest in the US as well as a run in Europe.

Taking to Twitter, Swift offered fans her apologies, saying, “I love coming on here to tell you good news, or to share a new project with you.

“It’s not my favourite thing in the world to have to tell you news I’m sad about.”

Swift continued in her post to comment that the pandemic has “changed everyone’s plans” and that “no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future”.

Read the full tweet below.

Since the release of ‘Lover’, Swift has dropped two surprise albums, ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’, each with only 24 hours notice.

Late last year, she announced she would be re-recording all six studio albums she put out with her former label, Big Machine, following a legal dispute over ownership of the tracks’ masters.

The first to be released will be ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’, expected out this April. Earlier this month, she put out the re-recorded version of her ‘Fearless’ hit ‘Love Story’.

Last week, she joined Haim on a remix of their song ‘Gasoline’, which was included on the expanded version of the trio’s album ‘Women In Music Pt. III’.

Parklife organisers are “confident” that Manchester festival will go ahead in September

The co-founder of Manchester’s Parklife Festival has said he is extremely confident that the event will be able to take place without any socially distancing regulations later this year.

The festival is yet to unveil its line-up for 2021, but is currently scheduled to take place at Manchester’s Heaton Park from September 11-12 after being pushed back from its original date in June.

Speaking to NME, Parklife co-founder Sacha Lord said the ongoing success of the UK’s vaccination programme has given him hope that the event will take place later this year.

“The vaccination roll-out has been incredible and hats off to all our scientists and NHS volunteers,” he said.

“For once, we can say that we have got something that’s world-beating. It’s phenomenal and we’ve got leading scientists saying they’re confident that everyone will have had their second vaccine by July.”

Lord also told NME that full-capacity would be key to the event’s success – days before the government unveiled plans to scrap all social distancing measures by the end of June.

“We pushed back Parklife to September and we’re confident it will go ahead. We’ve got New Order on the night before and we’re gearing up for success with an 80,000 capacity,” he said.

“We’re not considering operating with social distancing – I personally don’t like these socially distanced events. I think to go to a proper gig or a proper rave you need to be shoulder-to-shoulder in a hot sweaty environment. You cannot create that atmosphere at a socially distanced event.

“There are people talking still about trialling events at 25 per cent capacity, and I’m sorry, but that doesn’t work for me and it doesn’t work for many in the industry. The profit margins are so tight, especially on bigger events and you need to operate at 100 per cent.”

The positive update on Parklife comes as Reading & Leeds Festival confirmed earlier today (February 24) that it will take place over the August bank holiday – featuring headline performances from the likes of Liam Gallagher, Stormzy and Post Malone.

At present, the government aims “to remove all legal limits on social contact” by June 21 as part of the roadmap out of lockdown. Before that, outdoor hospitality, such as pubs and outdoor dining, could reopen on April 12, with indoor hospitality following on May 17.

The latter date is also the first point where live events could return – however, limited capacities and social distancing may still be required. After June 21, all other restrictions should be removed – however, the roadmap is contingent on vaccinations going to plan, COVID-19 variants not causing new problems and the infection rate lowering.

Travis Scott teases new album ‘Utopia’: “I’m trying to expand the sound”

Travis Scott has continued to tease his fourth album ‘Utopia’, ahead of its anticipated release later this year.

The rapper, who seemingly revealed the album title last summer, opened up in a new interview with pioneering film director Robert Rodriguez for i-D Magazine.

“I never tell people this, and I’m probably going to keep it a secret still, but I’m working with some new people and I’m just trying to expand the sound,” Scott said about his new album.

“I’ve been making beats again, rapping on my own beats, just putting everything together and trying to grow it really. That’s been one of the most fun things about working on this album. I’m evolving, collaborating with new people, delivering a whole new sound, a whole new range.”

When asked if he feels pressure to create something as ambitious as 2018’s ‘Astroworld‘, which spawned its own music festival, he replied: “It’s never about repeating myself, I’m just trying to make the next saga… each album is like a saga.

“I don’t feel no pressure, except to keep the fans alive. There’s so much more ground I can cover, and I want to cover it, and I love the challenge of it. I want to make a f*cking new sound. I might spend days banging my head against a wall trying to figure it out, but once I do it, it’s like ultimate ecstasy.”

Reflecting on the last year, Scott also explained how the pandemic has allowed him to spend more time creating the record.

“It made me way more productive,” he said.

“You know, you’re not doing any shows. You not really doing too much traveling. You in the crib, and I got the studio at home and I have the peace to record all day, you know? Obviously like, you lose a little bit by not being able to travel and, you know, just see the earth.”

Scott added that the album is “coming soon”, although a release date is yet to be confirmed.

His most recent release came in ‘The Plan’, a 2020 collaboration with Ludwig Göransson for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.

Bobby Shmurda has been released from prison in New York

Rapper Bobby Shmurda has been released from prison in New York.

The rapper, real name Ackquille Jean Pollard, was previously sentenced to seven years in prison in October 2016 after pleading guilty to conspiracy and weapons possession as part of a plea deal.

Confirming his release in a statement, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community said: “At approximately 8:30 this morning,  Ackquille Pollard was conditionally released from Clinton Correctional Facility. Mr. Pollard will be under community supervision in Kings County until he completes his sentence on February 23, 2026.”

The rapper, widely known for his 2014 hit ‘Hot N***a’, was denied parole back in September. He was ordered at the time to serve his maximum sentence (December 11, 2021) in prison.

However, The New York Times reported last month that a fresh review by the Department of Corrections restored Shmurda’s credit for “good institutional behaviour”, ensuring that he was eligible for conditional release on February 23.

“Thank you for remaining loyal and for riding this six year sentence out with me,” Shmurda wrote in an Instagram Story prior to his release. “I love you all and look forward to seeing you soon.”

Following his conditional release, Shmurda will be on parole until 2026.

Migos rapper Quavo previously claimed that he will be on hand to pick him up from prison, according to Billboard.

“I’m going to get my guy,” the frontman said. “I’m personally gonna go pick up Bobby Shmurda. I’m bout to go get him. I’m gonna let him show you how I’m gonna pick him up, yessir. It’s gonna be big.”

Tyler, The Creator debuts new music in Coca Cola advert

The latest project from the Odd Future leader sees him providing an upbeat soundtrack for the brief clip – which explores the energetic impact of the drink on several different people.

Announcing the collaboration, Tyler wrote on Twitter: “I PROVIDED COCA-COLA WITH ALL THE SOUNDS FOR THIS =)”.

In a series of follow-up tweets, he clarified that “thats me playing the flute at the beginning,” and “drums are f*cking hard the low end is shaking,” before thanking Coca-Cola for allowing him to have creative freedom on the project.

Describing his efforts, one YouTube user said it sounded “like a hybrid” between his 2015 album ‘Cherry Bomb’ and 2018’s ‘Flower Boy’.

Tyler’s Coca Cola collab comes after he recently teamed up with Brent Faiyaz for new song ‘Gravity’.

The song, which was produced by DJ Dahi, who has previously worked with Drake and Vampire Weekend, follows the rapper’s recent collaboration with Channel Tres on the single ‘fuego’.

It is the first time Tyler and Faiyaz have worked together and the song is also the Odd Future rapper’s first track of 2021.

Meanwhile, Tyler is currently set to perform as a headliner for this summer’s Longitude Festival. He’ll top the bill at the Dublin weekender on July 3 alongside Kendrick Lamar (July 2) and A$AP Rocky (July 4).

Young M.A Says Music Today Is Imbalanced: "We Need R&B"

Young M.A gives her opinion on the climate of music today, saying that it feels imbalanced due to the lack of quality R&B music being made.

The music industry today is interesting to say the least. One one hand, artists have never been more diverse with the genre-bending hits we've heard over the last decade — emcees sing just as frequently as they spit bars, vocalists often choose trap beats over melodic instrumentation, and some of today's hottest musicians like Post Malone, Trippie Redd and Rico Nasty for example exhibit a style somewhere between rock, rap and heavy metal. With all that said, the love seems to have been lost on popular radio when it comes to good ol' R&B. Or has it?

Rapper Young M.A brought up a good point recently Twitter that sparked an interesting debate. Check out her tweet below to see what started it all:

"Music don’t feel the same because we barely have R&B," the Herstory lyricist wrote to her over 300,000 followers, continuing by adding, "R&B brung that balance to music.. now everything is leanin one way smh so it gets played out quick! We need R&B for the balance no kap! [sic]." Many were quick to agree that a sound that was so prominent in the '90s and early 2000s is deeply missing at the moment, meanwhile others felt the need to call out some of the artists keeping R&B music alive, with names like Jhené Aiko, Summer Walker, Ari Lennox, Brent Faiyaz and newcomer Arin Ray being thrown out as just a few examples. It's worth noting that a lot of those aforementioned names do their own style of soul music, which at times can sample rap, rock and the occasional EDM vibes as well.

Read some of the most interesting responses to Young M.A's tweet below, and let us know your thoughts on the state of music today and if R&B is in fact a missing factor:

The Weeknd & Jacquees Smoothly Slide Into Our "R&B Season" Playlist

Vibe out to our R&B-focused playlist on Spotify.

The past two weeks of music releases have treated our playlist very well. Summer Walker, Brent Faiyaz, A Boogie wit da Hoodie and Snoh Aalegra all came through with huge contributions. This week is no exception. The Weeknd and Jacquees got us feeling blissful.

While you may initially be surprised to see G Herbo‘s name tucked into our playlist, you will then notice that Jacquees supplied Herbo’s new single with the R&B twist that allowed it to qualify for submission. “Shooter” is the second teaser of the Chicago rapper’s upcoming album, PTSD. Given its drastically different tone from the lead single, “In This Bitch”, we see that Herbo will be giving us a varied compilation. Jacquees, the self-proclaimed King of R&B, laces the song with an addictive chorus and the beat’s reverberating bass washes over you. Perfect for “R&B SEASON.”

Lots of new developments on The Weeknd front this week. After finally learning the title of his next album, we were gifted with the third single off After Hours, which also happens to be its title track. While it may not foster the most mellow mood, The Weeknd is an R&B staple that deserves love on our playlist. The first half of the song is quite upbeat, but once the dancing energy subsides, you are left with a brooding outro reminiscent of Abel’s earlier music. In that sense, it does fit the vibe we’re trying to curate here.

HNHH TIDAL Wave: RIP Pop Smoke

This week's edition of the staff-curated TIDAL Wave playlist is dedicated to Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke, who was tragically killed today.

Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke was representative of a movement that is picking up traction extraordinarily quickly in his hometown. The 20-year-old star was seen as one of the leaders of modern Brooklyn drill and, while he will be remembered for much more than just that, his music will live on forever, reminding us of the potential that Poppy had. He was killed early this morning after four masked men broke into the Hollywood Hills house he was renting, marking yet another instance where the hip-hop community is forced to mourn one of their young up-and-comers. Each week, our staff mulls over all of the new releases to create the TIDAL-exclusive TIDAL Wave playlist and, especially for this edition, we're featuring a number of songs by the late Brooklyn star.

Dropping his new album Meet The Woo 2 just a few days ago, Pop Smoke debuted to much acclaim on the Billboard 200. We have included a handful of his project standouts, including "Sweetheart," "Mannequin" and more to the playlist this week. Rest in peace, Pop Smoke.

Elsewhere in today's update, we've got the remix of "Life Is Good" with Lil Baby and DaBaby, a bunch of Tame Impala offerings, YoungBoy Never Broke Again's new single, that new Migos joint, and more.

Check out each staff member's individual picks below and sign up for a free 30-day trial to TIDAL here.
