Deezer reveal that 28 per cent of music uploaded to platform is fully AI-generated

Deezer has revealed that 28% of music uploaded to the streaming platform is fully AI-generated. This revelation comes as the platform installed an AI-detection tool at the beginning of the year, and in June committed to labelling any song that uses AI with a tag. In a new report, Deezer shares the new figures for tracks that use Artificial Intelligence. Advertisement The French music streaming service said 30,000 tracks created, at least partially, with AI are added to the platform every day, and that 70% of the plays of these songs have been detected and identified as fraudulent. The new 30,000 figure is an increase since February, when Deezer said around 10,000 AI-generated tracks are submitted to the platform daily. In January, Deezer reported that roughly 10% of all content delivered to the platform was AI-generated. This figure increased to 18% in April and has now reached a new high of 28%. The streaming service aims to flag content that is AI-generated for user transparency, assuring that it is removed from algorithmic recommendations. Deezer also wants to continue developing the capabilities of its AI-detection technology to include deep fake voices. “Following a massive increase during the year, AI music now makes… Read More →

Taylor Swift deposition off limits to Justin Baldoni in Blake Lively lawsuit after judge rules he took too long

A judge has denied Justin Baldoni’s last-minute bid to depose Taylor Swift in an upcoming trial over Blake Lively’s claims she was sexually harassed during the filming of It Ends With Us. On Friday (September 12), U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman ruled that Baldoni and his co-defendants at Wayfarer Studios waited too long to seek Swift’s deposition and missed their chance. Advertisement The judge did, however, grant a 10-day extension for Lively to take the depositions of Baldoni and two others. He said the defendants were too slow in producing the requested documents, so Lively and her lawyers deserved the extra time to prepare. In the case of Swift, the judge said Baldoni and Wayfarer failed to show “good cause” to justify the same response. “The only justification [Baldoni and the Wayfarer parties] have provided for the extension is their assertion that Swift’s preexisting professional obligations now prevent her from appearing for a deposition prior to October 20, 2025,” Judge Liman wrote. “Importantly, however, the Wayfarer parties have provided no discussion of when they began attempting to schedule the deposition. Discovery has been ongoing in this case for approximately six months.” The judge noted that Baldoni previously requested Swift’s deposition… Read More →

Limp Bizkit share ‘Making Love To Morgan Wallen’, their first single in four years

Limp Bizkit have shared their first new single in four years, ‘Making Love To Morgan Wallen‘. Listen below. The tongue-in-cheek track follows on from the band’s 2021 album ‘Still Sucks’, and sees Fred Durst and co. pay homage to a certain country music star. Advertisement With a sound harking back to the group’s earlier material, the song begins with a nod to the late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, before Durst shouts out Bowie (“I’ll chop you up if I’m under pressure“). He raps: “Bizkit beats from the pirate band (Napster)/ Signed this deal with a lobster hand (Lobster)/ Freestyle like a bowling pin/ Flex these bars on a dolphin fin (Dolphin fin)/ Life’s too short, but I can’t complain/ Doin’ backflips on a candy cane.” Later, Durst spits bars about riding his “scooter with a cape at night“. He then says he’s going to “high five mе a traffic light” and admits he “got kicked out of the Trump resort“. The gooey and sparse instrumental in the verse then segues into a monstrous, riff-heavy chorus: “Hey, ladies/ Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh/ When you’re hot, you’re hot (Yeah)/ When you’re not, you’re not (Nope).” [embedded content] Recommended The reference to Wallen in… Read More →

David Gilmour on Wish You Were Here: “Syd was the elephant in the room”

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s monumental Wish You Were Here, here’s David Gilmour reminiscing to Uncut about the making of the album’s emotional opener (and closer), “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”… “It’s the purest Floyd song, the peak of that particular stage in our development. We wrote the song in a dingy rehearsal room near Kings Cross – I have no idea why we were in such a dark, cheap and horrible rehearsal space when we’d just released one of the biggest-selling LPs in history! Ha! Maybe it was tight-arsed management. Advertisement “The song fell out of a four-note guitar figure that I came up with – that distinctive opening sequence. Roger [Waters] really liked it. It had that haunting, serial quality, like something from a piece of modern classical music, or from a film soundtrack. The rest of the song was a joint effort, which was becoming rare at around that time, where me and Roger tended to write separately and bring the ideas into a rehearsal. But here the song seemed to emerge organically out of a jam. “There’s the pedal bassline that links into the last part, lots of interesting chord changes, and Nick… Read More →

10 Things We Learnt At The New David Bowie Centre

We went to the press viewing for the new David Bowie Centre at the V&A East Storehouse. Here’s 10 things we learned there… warning: contains spoilers! 1 From Apple to the end, Bowie kept everything The archive contains 90,000 objects. These date back to Bowie teens, including his July 1968 rejection letter from Apple, signed by Peter Asher (“As we told you on the phone, Apple is not interested in signing David Bowie… we don’t feel he is what we are looking for at the moment”). A more recent revelation are the copious notes, written on coloured stickies, for a proposed play called The Spectator that Bowie was working on before his death. This would have been set in London in the 1700s and included characters such as criminal Jack Sheppard, William Hogarth and the Mohocks, an eighteenth-century street gang. “Many sex scenes” promises Bowie, zesty to the end. “So many beautiful songs”: why Elliott Smith remains a key inspiration for Brad Mehldau

“I’ve always been fascinated with the drone of open-string guitars, like in Nick Drake’s music or Neil Young’s or Joni Mitchell’s,” says Brad Mehldau, widely considered one of the greatest living jazz pianists, talking about what first attracted him to the music of Elliott Smith. “But there’s also a very Beatlesy aspect – so many beautiful, finely wrought songs that Elliott wrote on the piano, things like ‘Everything Means Nothing To Me’. He was a very sophisticated harmonist at a time when it wasn’t at the forefront in pop music. There was a lot of cool hip-hop. Grunge was happening. But Elliott came along and, for me, it felt like a renaissance.” Mehldau first encountered Smith back at the turn of the century, at LA’s Largo nightclub, where producer Jon Brion’s Friday-night residency attracted the city’s smart, sardonic songwriter set, including Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple and Rufus Wainwright. You can get a taste of the scene on YouTube in The Jon Brion Show, a never-aired pilot shot in summer 2000 by director Paul Thomas Anderson, featuring Brion, Mehldau and a painfully nervy Smith, shuffling awkwardly between piano, guitars and glockenspiel on a fairy-lit stage. “We lived in the same neighbourhood,… Read More →
